chubut LA BRU­JU­LA Cordillera, meseta y costa tienen su fuerte presencia en la morfología chubutense.

Esta provincia patagónica encuentra sus picos más altos en el Oeste, con 2494 msnm; mientras que la meseta abarca gran parte de su territorio, con valles fluviales y bajos como la Península Valdés sobre los 45 msnm. Como ésta última, Patrimonio Natural de la Humanidad, existen otras diez áreas naturales protegidas en la provincia, de distinta escala: los Parques Nacionales Los Alerces y Lago Puelo, el Bosque Petrificado Sarmiento o la reserva de pingüinos de Punta Tombo.

THE COMPASS Mountains, plateau, and seaside have a strong presence in the Chubut morphology. This Patagonia province has its highest peaks in the West, with a maximum height of 2494 masl; while the plateau covers the larger portion of its territory, with river valleys and lowlands, such as the Valdés Peninsula, only 45 masl. There are ten more areas such as this, declared Natural Patrimony of Humanity: the Los Alerces National Park and Lake Puelo, the Sarmiento Petrified Forest or the reservation of penguins at Punta Tombo.

El Volcán Puyehue tiñó de gris el escenario de la Patagonia de los Lagos. Hace apenas dos meses, navegamos las aguas del Nahuel Huapi, maravillados de su translucidez. Y a comienzos de junio, nos parecía mentira estar viendo una capa de cenizas sobre ese mismo lago, sobre las cabañas, las calles y la magia que encierran bastiones turísticos de la Argentina como son Bariloche y Villa La Angostura. Estos dos paraísos únicos recuperarán su esplendor, su brillo.

Y habrán crecido, seguramente, en solidaridad, fuerza, fe. Porque así se sale de las crisis. Por eso es que confiamos en que el Puyehue calmará sus entrañas, el alma de los vecinos logrará sortear estas semanas adversas, regresarán los aviones, la nieve traerá su bálsamo y pronto, volveremos a asistir como viajeros a estos pueblos que son mucho más potentes que una circunstancia.

La naturaleza se expresa a veces con violencia y puede resultar hasta inentendible. Y aunque en este caso no haya una relación directa entre causa y efecto, quizás sea buen momento para poner en pie una actitud, más allá del conceptoetiqueta de turismo sustentable. El tema es ejercerlo. Tomarnos el trabajo de entender que cada ecosistema está hecho a la medida de cada ser que lo habita, que como viajeros no podemos perturbarlo sino admirarlo con ojos respetuosos.

La fuerza con la que el planeta puede reclamarnos nuestros descuidos y derroches es incierta.

Pero hay que tener esperanzas: tenemos tiempo de ser turistas responsables. Tenemos tiempo para que cada escenario recupere su magia y nuestra ayuda no es un hecho menor.

The Puyehue volcano painted the region of the Patagonia Lakes a uniform grey. Only a month ago, we were navigating the waters of Lake Nahuel Huapi, marveling at its transparency. At the beginning of June it is incredible to see the same lake with an immense layer of ashes covering, not only the waters, but the cabins, the streets, the magic of some of the main Argentine resorts, such as Bariloche and Villa La Angostura.

These two unique paradises will no doubt recover their splendor, their shine. And they will surely have strengthened their solidarity, their faith.

Because that is how you overcome crisis: looking to the future. We know the Puyehue will calm down, the locals will overcome the difficulties of these adverse weeks, the planes will fly again, the snow will bring back its soothing balm, and we will again visit these towns, with a beauty more powerful than any adverse circumstance.

Nature sometimes is violent and can become impossible to understand. And even if there is no direct cause-effect relation here, it is a good time to adopt an attitude of respect for the environment, including sustainability and responsible tourism.

We need to exercise this attitude. Understand that each eco-system is adapted to those that inhabit it and that as visitors we should not disturb it, only enjoy the gifts of nature respectfully. We do not know with what force the planet will respond to our lack of care, our excesses. There is time enough for each resort to recover its magic and our help is important.

Una vez hecho el circuito, un jugo natural y a seguir chapoteando. Es que el spa está ubicado dentro del predio de Termas de Villa Elisa, un complejo con siete piscinas donde el agua extraída de más de 1000 metros de profundidad, va de los 37°C a los 41 °C, con propiedades terapéuticas elogiables y actividades para todas las edades. Las piscinas cubiertas y con hidrojets ofrecen más pasividad, y en otras, hay movimiento (¡hasta olas!) bajo el sol. También hay tenis y golf en el predio.

El gustito de la historia Los planes en la ciudad entrerriana se multiplican una vez que se abandonan las batas y el calor del agua termal. Se puede dar un paseo urbano para encontrar el inmenso Monumento al Sembrador, admirar los vitreaux y las cúpulas coloridas de la iglesia con estilo neogótico alemán, y visitar el museo-estancia El Porvenir.

Pero si la idea es saciar el apetito, en sentido cultural y literal, vale la pena recorrer 12 km hasta el almacén de ramos generales Francou, en Colonia El Carmen, ya sea a la hora de la merienda o un poquito más tarde, cuando se justifica la picada de salame, queso, escabeches, huevos de codorniz, con vino patero regional, todo casero.

The spa is in the Thermas de Villa Elisa, a complex with seven swimmingpool, where the water is extracted from more than 1000 meters down, ranging from 37ºC to 41ºC, with therapeutic and activities for all ages. The covered swimming-pools and the hydrojets offer more passivity and in others there is more movement (¡even waves!) under the sun. There is also tennis and golf.

The taste of history Once you leave behind the heat of the thermal waters there are other plans.

You can tour the city to find the immense monument to the Planter, admire the vitreaux and the colorful domes of the church with its neo-gothic German architecture, and visit the museumranch El Porvenir.

But if you want to satisfy your appetite, both culturally and literally, it is worth it to take a 12 km ride to the Francou general store, at Colonia El Carmen, in the afternoon or a little later, where you can enjoy salami, cheese, pickled goods, quail eggs, local wine, everything homemade.

Allí se provocará el encuentro entre los habitués locales que dejan el caballo atado en la tranquera del frente, los turistas y los cien años de historia del almacén narrados por su dueña, Olga. Ella abrirá el arcón de los recuerdos de las familias fundadoras, expuestos en álbumes e incluso en los estantes de madera del almacén, a través de fotografías, enaguas, tarjetas de salutación, monedas y objetos camperos de antaño.

Otro imperdible es el sótano de ladrillo a la vista donde conocer la elaboración de los chorizos y salames a la luz de un candil.

Para los mediodías de domingo, el recomendado es Don Leandro, en el pueblo de Hocker, de cien habitantes. En este almacén, el mismísimo Leandro prepara carnes a la parrilla, y con atención amena convida con sus simpáticos licores “revienta gauchos” y “voltea chinas”, bajo las glisinas del patio o en el corazón del almacén.

ada vez que emprendemos un viaje una sucesión de experiencias nos despiertan las más variadas emociones y sentimientos… Pero las vivencias que la Virgen del Cerro regala a las 300.000 personas que la visitan por año parecen ser únicas. Muchos van por curiosidad, otros llegan con un pedido concreto, pero la gran mayoría vuelve. Según dicen, para agradecer el milagro.

Todos le rezan a la Inmaculada Madre del Divino Corazón Eucarístico de Jesús, conocida popularmente como la Virgen del Cerro ó La Virgen de Salta. Llegan cada sábado, temprano por la mañana, al cerro 20 de Febrero, ubicado en el barrio Tres Cerritos, a tan sólo unos minutos del centro de la ciudad. Algunos suben a pie, otros en auto, pero todos llegan a la cima donde la pequeña ermita de la virgen los recibe. Bajo los árboles y ante una imponente vista de la ciudad, se disponen los bancos en semicírculo.

Todos se sientan mirando hacia el playón central y en absoluto silencio esperan que el reloj marque las 12, momento en que se hace presente María Livia Galeano de Obeid.

Ella asegura recibir mensajes de la Virgen desde 1990, incluso el pedido de rezar el rosario, lo cual se hace antes de la ceremonia de intercesión, momento en el que según dicen los miembros de la Fundación, la Virgen desciende en cuerpo y alma.

La ceremonia de intercesión dura hasta que el último peregrino recibe la mano cálida de Maria Livia en su hombro izquierdo. Luego todos se van en silencio, con el corazón desbordando de paz y una fuerte experiencia vivida.

Pero la fe no se concentra allí, los salteños tienen una gran espiritualidad y la reli-

Sobre la Plaza 9 de julio está la catedral, donde turistas y locales visitan al Señor y a la Virgen de los Milagros, patronos de la provincia.

Las fiestas patronales comienzan a principios de septiembre con innumerables actividades y ceremonias y concluyen el 15 de ese mes con una de las manifestaciones de fe más importantes del país. Devotos de todas las provincias viajan a renovar su pacto de fe. Es que a esas bellísimas

imágenes que desde España llegaron por el 1500, se les agradece el haber salvado a Salta del gran terremoto de 1692.

A pocas cuadras de la Catedral, en la esquina de Caseros y Córdoba, está la Basílica Menor de San Ignacio, terminada de construir por los monjes franciscanos en el 1800. Vale la pena buscar cerca del atrio a Don Mamamí, casi una leyenda del lugar. Sin apuro, con muy buen humor y mucho conocimiento, hace visitas guiadas por el convento y la

Mountain or the Virgin of Salta.

They come every Saturday, early in the morning, to Mount 20 of February, in the Tres Cerritos neighborhood, only minutes from downtown Salta, the capital of the province. Some climb on foot, others ride a car, but all reach the top, where they find the little chapel.

Under the trees and with an imposing view of the city, there are benches in a semi-circle. Everybody sits in the central courtyard and wait silently for the clock to strike 12, at which time María Livia Galeano de Obeid comes forward.

She assures she receives messages from the Virgin since 1990, including a request to pray the rosary, previous to the ceremony of intercession. Members of the Foundation say that after that the Virgin descends in body and soul.

The ceremony of intercession extends until the last pilgrim feels the warm hand of María Livia on his or her left shoulder. Then they all leave silently, with their hearts full of peace and feeling they have lived an important experience.

But faith is not only present there. The salteños have great spirituality and religion is ever present in their daily lives. The Cathedral is in the 9th of July Plaza, where tourists and locals visit the lord and Our Lady of Miracles, the patrons of the province.

The patronage festivities start at the beginning of September with innumerable activities and ceremonies and end on the 15th of that month, with one of the most expressions of faith in the country. Believers from all over the country come to renew their bond of faith. They thank these beautiful images that came from Spain around the year 1500, for saving Salta from the great earthquake in 1692.

A few blocks from the Cathedral, at the corner of Caseros and Córdoba, is the Basilica minor of Saint Ignatius, Franciscan monks finished building in 1800. You will want to look for Don Mamani, almost a legend of the place, near the atrium. He is never in a hurry, and with good humor and great knowledge of the place, he guides visitors to see the convent and the church, telling

Arrojar la moneda al aire implica tomar un rumbo diferente pero con la coincidencia de la adrenalina, ya sea la de las pendientes nevadas de La Hoya, el centro de actividades de montaña ubicado a 13 km de Esquel, o la de ver pasar por debajo de la embarcación, en las aguas del Golfo Nuevo, ejemplares inmensos de ballena franca austral en Península Valdés.

On one hand, the waters surrounding the Valdés Peninsula are already teaming with whales; on the other, by the Andes Mountains, the snow covers the ski tracks at La Hoya. eads or tails. East or West. The sea or the mountains. The diversity of the territory of Chubut becomes active in winter, with tempting alternatives and therefore a difficult decision. ¿Snow or sightings?

Throwing a coin in the air implies taking alternative roads, but the adrenaline is always there, be it with the snowy slopes at La Hoya, the mountain sports center 13 kilometers from Esquel, or watching an immense specimen of right whale glide under the boat in the waters of Golfo Nuevo, at Valdés Peninsula.

sport, La Hoya already has 30 cm of snow at the foot of the mountains and in the high areas, thanks to intense snow-falls in mid-June. Preferred by Alpine skiers, ski-touring enthusiasts, and snowboarders, because of the dry dusty permanent snow, also by the people that love to have the wind in their faces with the speed of snow-bikes (there is a special circuit for them), families and not-so-advanced skiers choose it too for their winter fun. This season the emphasis is on security in the tracks and the eleven snow-chairs, also in fixed dates, for example, the Freestyle and snowboard exhibitions

in the Snow Park and across from the La Piedra tearoom; the classic descent with torches and the toast with hot wine; and in August the II Patagonia Winter Games.

Meanwhile, at the other side of the plateau, in the Atlantic Ocean, the whales are the main feature for photoops. You can stay at Puerto Madryn, the main town in the area, or the small Puerto Pirámides, from where the boats start on their sighting tours. In both places you will enjoy the coastal spirit, with the proximity of the cetaceans that visit the region from May to December.

The thrill of this close up view on expeditions that last an hour implies seeing their tales above the water, their impressive jumps and the sea-gulls pecking at their backs. And you can even see them from the El Doradillo beach, 17 kilometers from Puerto Madryn.

Diving offers another way to meet the marine fauna face to face, including sealions that play in front of the divers any time of the year, as long as the weather is good. Even beginners can enjoy it: the maiden submarine experience is in great demand at the local diving outfits.

Back to where the plateau meets the sea, in the Valdés Peninsula you will find a centennial lighthouse, an infinite variety of birds, the Darwin Rhea, Patagonia Mara grazing at the edge of the road, and a unique continental resting place for elephant seals on the beach.

Para terminar la jornada y recuperar calorías, es ineludible un paso por la cultura galesa de Gaiman, fundado a fines del siglo XIX y con testimonios en pie de aquella época: acequias, capillas, casonas y por supuesto, su mejor ceremonia, la del té galés. No faltan las teteras bien vestidas, la torta galesa, el pan y la manteca caseras y las tortas de frambuesas, a cuál más exquisita.

Bienvenida la nieve Después de días difíciles, vuelve a asomar la expectativa por la temporada invernal en la ciudad: se preparan las pistas del Cerro Catedral y las excursiones dejan descubrir el paisaje con normalidad

ras la erupción del volcán Puyehue que afectó con sus cenizas a la Patagonia de los Lagos, Bariloche se pone a punto para la temporada invernal con su cerro Catedral como protagonista y la gente como motor de este renacer. De hecho, durante los domingos de junio, fueron los propios vecinos los que, escoba en mano, limpiaron la ciudad para que los viajeros puedan disfrutar nuevamente de un paraíso que incluye bosque andino patagónico, la inmensidad del Lago Nahuel Huapi y claro está en esta época del año, la nieve.

Al cierre de esta edición habían comenzado a caer los primeros copos y por ello, se espera que la temporada alcance su mejor momento en agosto, acompañada por el sol que preludia a la primavera, qué mejor manera de esquiar.

Este año, el Catedral tiene como noticias a su Kids Club Amancay renovado y con más espacio; y una pista de esquí de fondo de 4000 metros, para principiantes y avanzados.

Si bien no se recomienda llegar a Bariloche por vía aérea (el aeropuerto internacional permanece cerrado por la presencia de cenizas en suspensión), la visibilidad en rutas de acceso ya es óptima y los servicios de buses funcionan con frecuencias normales. Así mismo, la ciudad ya retomó su ritmo en cuanto a hotelería, gastronomía e incluso, excursiones: el teleférico del Cerro Otto sube a diario para regalar una vista inédita de la ciudad; se puede abordar el catamarán hacia Puerto Blest y Cascada de los Cántaros; caminar con raquetas en el Valle del Chall Huaco; o hacer canopy a la altura de los árboles en el Cerro López.

El abastecimiento de mercaderías y combustible es normal, así como el funcionamiento de los servicios públicos.

After the hard times, locals are expectant to see what the winter season brings to the city: the Mount Cathedral ski tracks are being readied and normalcy is returning to the tour circuit

fter the eruption of the Puyehue volcano that affected with its ashes the whole region of the Patagonia Lakes, San Carlos de Bariloche is getting ready for the winter season with Mount Cathedral as the main attraction and the locals preparing the rebirth of the resort. The neighbors themselves swept the ashes from the streets and the whole town so tourists can enjoy this paradise that includes the Andean woods, the immense Lake Nahuel Huapi and, of course, the snow.

When this edition was going to print, the first flakes where starting to fall and everyone thinks the season will be at its best in August. Skiing with the sun that announces the coming spring: what could be better? This year Mount Cathedral presents its renovated Amancay Kids Club,

Welcome, the snow with more space; and a new ski track 4000 meters long for beginners and experts.

Though the international airport is still closed because of the ashes in the air, visibility on the routes is fine and bus services have returned to normal.

The city itself has recovered its regular life, with hotels, restaurants, and tours at full speed: the Mount Otto cablecar is offering its daily visits to the top of the mountain, with the wonderful panoramic view of the resort-town; the catamaran is doing its rounds on the lake, reaching Port Blest and the los Cántaros Cascade; you can try walking with snow shoes at the Chall Huaco Valley or go canopying in the trees at Mount López.

Supply at stores and service stations, and public services are also back to normal.

Northern Córdoba The posts on the King’s Road We decided to visit the towns of northern Córdoba that have been custodians of the passage of time and of cultural and economic trade that began more than four centuries ago, between the area known as High Peru (Bolivia nowadays) and the Viceroyalty of the River Plate. A. DEL TOTORAL.– Hay un elemento en común, más allá del trazado del Camino Real en sí, en estos pueblitos del norte de Córdoba.

Sus muros contrastan con el cielo celeste, casonas y viejas estancias, postas y capillas. En ellos brota la historia de este nexo entre el Alto Perú y el Río de la Plata, y en ellos también se encontrará el complemento ideal para quien visita la ciudad de Córdoba y las estancias jesuíticas. Como comienzo, Villa del Totoral, un pueblo de calles anchas surcadas de árboles añosos que el pintor local Octavio Pinto supo plasmar en sus telas. El río y su Cajón de Piedra son los protagonistas naturales aunque la historia construida no puede tenerle envidia: con una guía-anecdotario en mano, se puede recorrer una veintena de casonas célebres donde se alojaron Pablo Neruda y Rafael Alberti, donde el Dr. Bas fundó la Caja Nacional de ahorro postal o donde Roberto Noble gestó el primer contacto vía telefónica.

Rumbo a la Villa de Tulumba por camino de tierra y campo, tras saludar a la Posta de Macha al paso, se llega a esta localidad donde se funde en rejas, puertas y mosaicos el esplendor de la época virreinal. Si se arriba al mediodía, es posible encontrar abierto sólo un comedor familiar (delicioso), a una cuadra de la plaza. Junto a la parroquia Nuestra Señora del Rosario, de diseño románico, se conservan los restos de

ILLA DEL TOTORAL.These little towns in northern Córdoba have a common element, aside from the King’s Road. On their streets you find walls that contrast with the blue sky, the old houses and estancias (ranches), posts, and chapels. There you find the history of this link between Alto Peru and the old Buenos Aires, and there you also find the ideal complement to Córdoba city and the Jesuit estancias. And you want to know more about them.

As a start, Villa del Totoral, a town with wide streets and old trees, that the local painter, Octavio Pinto, included in his works. The river and its Stone Canyon are natural features, but there are also buildings that are man-made historical features, such as the twenty or so celebrated houses visited by Pablo Neruda and Rafael Alberti, where Dr. Bas founded the National Postal Savings Bank or where Roberto Noble established the first telephone line in the country. Happily the houses are well preserved.

On the way to Villa de Tulumba, by a dirt road through the countryside, you pass the Macha Post. Then you come to the town, with gratings, doors and tiles from colonial times.

If you get there at noon you will find a restaurant offering abundant and delicious dishes, only a block from the plaza. By the Our Lady of the Rosary parish, with elegant towers and Roman design, you will find the remains of the old adobe chapel

Desvío mediante por la ruta 60 hasta la Posta de Intihuasi, el camino continúa hacia el norte pasando por la Posta de Santa Cruz hasta descubrir la capilla más antigua en pie de la provincia (1610 a 1690): se está ahora en la bella estancia San Pedro Viejo. Nuestro guía traerá la antigua llave para accionar la puerta tallada.

Y una vez dentro, se podrá conocer la imagen de San Pedrito del siglo XVI y ver obras del artista Mario Sanzano en la sacristía, en una selección de Galería Zurbarán. Unos pasos delante de la capilla, se ubica la posta, cuya edad se calcula en 50 años menos, aunque el gestor de su construcción, en ambos casos, haya sido el fundador de la ciudad de Córdoba, Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera. La paz del amanecer regala aquí una postal única: la capilla reflejada sobre las aguas del tajamar, con cientos de aves en vuelo.

from the seventeenth century. Inside the temple there is an image of the Virgin from 1592 and an articulated wood carving of a mestizo Christ (halfbred, Christian and Indian), that was used to instruct the natives in Jesus’ suffering.

Taking route 60 to the Intihuasi Post, the road heads north, past the Santa Cruz Post, till you come to the oldest well preserved chapel in the province (built in 1610): you are now in the beautiful estancia of San Pedro Viejo.

Our guide brings the old key to open the carved door. Once inside you will see the image of Saint Peter, the patron of the region, from the XVIth century. In the Sacristy there are paintings by Córdoba artist Mario Sanzano, wisely preserved by the Zurbarán Gallery. A few steps from the chapel is the post, built about fifty years later by the founder of Córdoba city, Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera.

Citröen DS3: Un auto, todas las miradas | Por Jota Leonetti | El trip hacia Córdoba fue abordo del protagonista del Rally Mundial, a pocos días de correrse en esa provincia.

El diseño exterior de la línea DS (aquella que Citröen fabricó durante dos décadas desde la exitosa presentación del modelo en 1955) hizo que no dejáramos de sentir las miradas posadas en el auto. Llaman la atención su combinación de colores en carrocería y techo (aunque nosotros probamos la versión “all black”), las luces de día –dos grandes bigotes de LED verticales en casi los laterales del paragolpes delantero-, y hasta el logo de la familia más deportiva de Citröen.

Al encender el motor, el sonido demuestra todo su espíritu deportivo al tiempo que las agujas del velocímetro y cuenta vueltas dan un torque al máximo. La posición de manejo y el agarre de las butacas es inmejorable. Luego de encontrar la regulación adecuada del volante y el asiento en profundidad, altura y respaldo, ya no hay que “reacomodarse”, incluso luego de realizar varios kilómetros. Es definitivamente confortable para viajar.

El pique y respuesta en ruta para hacer un sobrepaso es impresionante, junto a la serenidad del motor llevándolo en la sexta marcha. En caminos de tierra y ripio, nuevamente respondió con mucha agilidad en ascensos, curvas y contracurvas. La sensación es de estabilidad plena y claro está, de diversión al volante en el paradójico encuentro de un camino histórico con uno de los más modernos vehículos del mercado.

Citröen DS3: The car that has everybody looking

The trip to Córdoba was on board the car that a few days later would be in the World Rally in that province. The design of the DS line (that Citröen made for two decades since its successful launch in 1955) turns heads everywhere. The combination of the colors of the hood and the body (though we tried out an “all black” version), the day-lights –two vertical LEDs almost on the laterals of the front fender- and even the logo of the most sportsy Citröen car are eye-catchers. When you turn on the motor, the sound is proof by itself of the sporting spirit, and at the same time the speedometer and the tachometer needles point to the maximum torque. The seats and the driving stance couldn’t be any better. Once you find the right position for the steering wheel and the seat, including its height, you will not need to change it again, even after a long drive. It is really comfortable.

The acceleration and response on route are impressive, along with the quietness of the motor in sixth gear. In gravel and dirt roads it responded nimbly climbing uphill, and on curves. It gives you a feeling of great stability. And it is fun to drive in the paradoxical encounter of one of the most modern vehicles in the market with an historical road.

os muros del siglo XVII han sido rescatados al tiempo y aunque la historia permanece intacta, se han revitalizado con emoción. Es esa sensación la que se llevan los huéspedes cuando pasan jornadas de sol, tareas de campo y paciente contemplación en esta estancia que fuera posta e iglesia, perteneciente a Pedro, el hijo de Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera, fundador de Córdoba. Hoy, es mucho más que un alto en el camino. Es una invitación al descanso con habitaciones plenas de detalles decorativos y muebles de antaño, galerías nutridas de luz, un tajamar con aves en vuelo y numerosos espacios comunes con el fuego siempre encendido. Es un placer cebar el mate de las tardes con torta casera en el quincho donde más tarde se hará el asado; o leer en el jardín de invierno. En días estivales, la piscina que mira al curioso palmar será un bálsamo bienvenido.

Aquí se crian caballos peruanos de paso, se come delicioso y casero, por las noches se arman rondas de zambas y chacareras con bombo y guitarra, y los dueños mismos atienden a los viajeros, recomendando con sapiencia los mejores paseos cercanos: Cerro Colorado y sus pinturas rupestres de los Comechingones, a sólo 40 km, resulta imperdible.

That is the feeling visitors get when they enjoy sun filled days, full of country chores, in this ranch that was a stop for stage-coaches and a church, and belonged at one time to Pedro de Cabrera, son of the founder of Cordoba city, Jerónimo Luis de Cabrera. Today it is much more than a stop on the road. It is an invitation to rest, with rooms full of details and antiques, an aviary and several common spaces with a fire always lit. It is a pleasure to enjoy a mate in the thatched-roof shed or quincho, where later you will eat a barbecue. There is also a wintergarden where it is great to sit and read.

In summer days the swimming-pool is a refreshing alternative.

Peruvian horses are raised here. The food is delicious. In the night there is zamba and chacarera dancing, with drums and guitars. The owners are there to help you choose the best outings: to Cerro Colorado and the cave paintings of the Comechingones, only 40 kms (27 miles) are a great alternative. In the church, the atrium has been turned into an art gallery and presents the paintings of Mario Sanzano, with scenes of northern Córdoba.

The cemetery is the resting place for important historical figures such as Evita, Sarmiento and Rosas; there is also the Our Lady of Pilar church from 1732; the artisans in the plaza and the Recoleta Cultural Center: culture, outdoors, good food and shopping, all in one place. You can access the mall through the Tilos Patio at the Cultural Center, or climb to the terraces from Azcuénaga Street, with a mural by the brilliant architect Clorindo Testa. Or you can enter from the plaza, directly to the Morph store. Many stores are taxfree and visitors can use a number of coupons. The best hotels offer transportation to and from the mall, and you can ask by phone.

ara los amantes de las artes plásticas seguramente no exista en la Argentina otra muestra más oportuna que ArteBA para deleitarse, por calidad y diversidad, con obras de artistas consagrados como Deira, Macció, Soldi, Kazuya Sakai, o Noé. O signifique, para muchos otros, un nuevo paso para acercarse a las tendencias del arte contemporáneo regional. En esta edición n° 20, la muestra tuvo como registro más destacado el premio ArteBAPetrobrás de Artes Visuales, que se le otorgó al artista rosarino Carlos Herrera por su “Autorretrato sobre mi muerte”.

La relevancia del encuentro también se vio en el programa de adquisición de museos. El Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes de San Juan adquirió una obra de Bastón Diaz (galería Sasha D); el Museo de Arte Tigre eligió una obra de Mariano Sapia y el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Salta, adquirió dos obras, una de Daniel García y una de Nahuel Vecino, de la galería Cosmocosa. El Barrio Joven Chandon siguió posicionándose como plataforma de lanzamiento para artistas emergentes, mientras LAN ofreció el servicio gratuito de audioguía para que los visitantes pudieran acercarse más a las propuestas artísticas, además de proponer arte sustentable en su stand, a cargo de Sebastián Boado Montero.

or those who love fine arts there probably is no other show in Argentina they enjoy more than ArteBA, considering the quality and diversity of the paintings presented there. With works by established artists, such as Ernesto Deira, Rómulo Macció, Miguel Dávila, Raúl Soldi, Kazuya Sakai, or Luis Felipe Noé. For others it can be the first step in getting to know the trends of contemporary art in the region. The main attraction was the ArteBA-Petrobras Prize for Visual Arts, bestowed on Rosario artist Carlos Herrera for his work “Self-portrait of my death”.

The importance of ArteBA is also visible in the acquisition programs of Argentine museums: the Fine Arts Provincial Museum of San Juan bought a painting by Gastón Díaz, presented by the Sasha D gallery. The Tigre Art Museum chose a work by Mariano Sapia, and the Salta Contemporary Art Museum acquired two works, one

by Daniel Garcia, and one by Nahuel Vecino, from the Cosmocosa gallery.

Barrio Joven Chandon continued to position itself as a platform for emerging artists. And LAN offered a free audio-guide service to help visitors understand the art, also proposing sustainable art in its stand organized by Sebastián Boado.

La Panadería de Pablo

Aromas del mundo Simple y singular como su nombre, la panadería que Pablo Massey abrió en la planta baja de La Defensa es una vuelta a los sabores verdaderos, a la distención de un espacio cómodo, a la conquista de refinamiento en los ingredientes, la cocción y presentación de cada bocado. Este chef sumó en su larga carrera las inspiraciones de la cocina mediterránea, toscana y florentina en Italia, pero también pasó por Le Bristol París, lo conquistó Tailandia, Nueva Zelanda, Canadá, Barcelona, Singapur; y se nutrió de conocimiento en el American Culinary Institute New York. De allí que las exquisiteces de gran calidad que hoy presenta en su carta (sana y auténtica) tengan influencias globales. Para el desayuno y la tarde, Massey delineó un menú donde no faltan tortas, medialunas e irresistibles muffins. Al mediodía, hay pizzas al horno de leña, sándwiches de lomito hecho en la parrilla, tortillas, carnes argentinas, pescado a la parrilla y ensaladas frescas bien sazonadas.

This chef in his long career was inspired by the Mediterranean cuisine, of Toscana and Florence in Italy, Le Bristol in Paris, Thailand, New Zealand, Canada, Barcelona, Singapore. That why the delicacies he presents in his menu have global influences. For breakfast and the afternoon Massey defined a menu that includes cakes, croissants, and irresistible muffins. Stephen Koek Koek y Jacques Witjens : “Los Holandeses” Hasta el 12 de agosto / To August 12, galeria zurbaran

Embarcados en la escuela post impresionista, Koek Koek la abandona una década después sumido en problemas psíquicos que lo llevan a una pintura expresionista de fuertes empastes.

La muestra contiene sus cambios más íntimos, de la serenidad entre 1915 y 1925, al contraste posterior. En Witjens, los cambios solo se reconocen con la incorporación de los cielos diáfanos argentinos, frente a los grises de su tierra natal.

As a member of the post-impressionist school, Koek Koek abandoned it a decade after suffering psychological problems that take him to an expressionist painting with strong application of paint. The show shows the changes, from the serenity between 1915 and 1925 and the later contrast. In Witjens changes are only visible with the adding of the sunny skies of these lands, compared with the grays of his countryir.

Dedicated to urban landscapes, this first presentation of the artist very well known in Santa Fe shows works he painted in that city. From the Hanging Bridge to the façade of the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Municipal 1st of May Theatre, the Silos, the Tokio bar, and the Colón and Unión stadiums, the two football passions of santafesinos.

Veintisiete obras, de cuatro décadas, que representan su original e importante vertiente “machiaioli”. Se exponen obras cumbres y de gran formato como la emblemática que representa las vías del tren en La Boca, el Riachuelo, la Isla Maciel; y los campestres de Las Flores y Río Ceballos.

Twenty-seven works from four decades that represent his original and important “machioli” trend. Big works are presented such as the one that shows the train tracks in La Boca, the Riachuelo, Maciel Island, along with countryside pictures such as Las Flores and Río Ceballos.
