¿Cómo vas a hacer para viajar con la bebé?, me preguntaban hace tres años. Qué le iba a dar de comer en un hotel, qué pasaba si no se acostumbraba a otra cuna, que los mosquitos, el avión, el frío, los kilómetros en auto, el desacostumbramiento a la rutina…

Llevo tres años de práctica y puedo asegurarles que viajar en familia es una de las experiencias más hermosas. Seguramente, cuando el número de infantes sea más grande, la cosa se ponga más compleja. Y no dejo de reconocer que viajar de a dos era maravilloso. Pero encarar un paseo con esos ojitos nuevos en el asiento de atrás es sensiblemente diferente a la mirada que podemos tener los adultos de un destino. Incluso, hemos tenido la oportunidad de recorrer el mismo destino en pareja y en familia y sin duda, la vivencia es otra: por el asombro, la inocencia, o simplemente por la felicidad de tener una pequeña deslumbrada al lado saltando de contenta.

Esta vez nos tocó el encuentro renovado con las ballenas, los pingüinos y los elefantes marinos de Península Valdés, un paraíso al que accedimos jugueteando con el mapa, con un pingüino de tela y vellón como invitado, apostando a divisar ovejas en los caminos largos, y respondiendo las preguntas inquietas que guiaron la interpretación más didáctica posible sobre los habitantes de esta porción de Patagonia.

Tengo, en cada viaje, una sensación encantadora: la de compartirle el país donde nació, enseñarle a respetarlo a partir de conocerlo, y al contar la experiencia, tratar de erradicar el temor de viajar con chicos.

How are you going to travel with the baby? they used to ask me three years ago. That I would have to feed it in a hotel, what would happen if it didn’t like a different cradle, the mosquitoes, the airplane, the cold, kilometers in a car...

I have had three year’s practice and I can assure you that a family outing is one of the most beautiful experiences in life. No doubt with a greater number of kids things get more complicated.

And I admit that travelling just the two of us was marvelous. But organizing a tour with those new little eyes in the back seat is very different from the way adults see any destination.We have had the opportunity to do the same circuit as a couple and a family, and no doubt the experience is different, possibly because of the astonishment, the innocence, or simply the happiness when there is a little one by you jumping out of pure joy.

This time it was a renewed meeting with the whales, the penguins, and marine elephants in Valdés peninsula, a paradise we reached toying with the map, with a stuffed penguin as a guest, betting on spotting sheep on the long roads, and answering inquisitive question with an interpretation as didactical as possible.

The emotions of this close up view were more valuable than the first time. And you get another charming feeling: telling them of the country they were born in, teaching them to respect it as they get to know it, and definitively eradicating the fear of travelling with kids.

OLON.- A la par del río Uruguay y sobre la RN 14, las palmeras Yatay dan forma ondulada al Parque Nacional El Palmar, un bosque de más de 8.500 hectáreas ubicado a solo 54 km de la ciudad de Colón y muy cerca de la localidad de Ubajay. El atardecer se hace presente con su paleta de colores anaranjados y la infinidad de tonos se lleva las mejores fotos. Si se avanza por el sendero que conduce al arroyo El Palmar, las luciérnagas se vuelven multitud y hacen de lucero natural para la travesía que está por comenzar. La caminata nocturna por el corazón de las yatay se inaugura con el avistaje de las primeras vizcachas. Antes de llegar al punto panorámico La Glorieta, el terreno poblado de palmeras se combina con un bosque en galería que puebla las márgenes del río mientras un zorro del monte se asoma con sus pupilas brillantes a lo lejos. Los grillos aportan lo suyo a la velada e inauguran la estadía de las próximas 24 horas en el Parque Nacional.

La idea de quedarse a dormir en el camping ayuda a quienes desean ver animales en su hábitat, ya que los principales del parque -entre ellos, las vizcachas- suelen presentarse a última hora. El anochecer en el Palmar comienza a contar su propio cuento.

A la hora del desayuno, los pájaros carpinteros y chincheros trepan por los troncos de las palmeras autóctonas que llegan a vivir entre 200 y 400 años. El bullicio de las cotorras anida en las copas de los árboles y las urracas miran desde alguna rama escondida. La opción clásica

OLON.- By the Uruguay River and on National Route 14, the Yatay palms give El Palmar National Park an undulating form, a forest of more than 8500 hectares only 54 kilometers from the city of Colon and very close to the locality of Ubajay.

Sunset is present in the immense sky with its palette of orange colors and the infinity of tones that produce the best snapshots. If you take the path towards the El Palmar stream, the glowworms are a multitude and offer natural light for the tour that begins here. The night walk in the heart of the Yatay starts when you see the first viscacha (Lagidium) Before coming to the La Glorieta panoramic point, the terrain covered with palms combines with a forest in gallery that follows the river, while a fox’s brilliant pupils can be seen far away. The crickets contribute their song, inaugurating your 24 hour stay in the National park.

Staying at the camping site overnight helps you see the animals in their habitats, since the main ones in the park –among them, the viscachas- come out close to night fall. Sunset at El Palmar offers it own story.

At breakfast time, woodpeckers and the scimitar billed woodcreeper (Drymornis bridgesii) climb the trunks of the palms that can live between 200 and 400 years. The noisy parrots make their nests in the treetops and the plush crested jay (Cyanocorax chrysops) watches from some branch hidden in the riverside woods. The classic option to tour the Park is in

E para recorrer el parque es en automóvil a través de cuatro senderos, pero si la idea es mimetizarse de lleno con la escenografía la opción es pedalear. En las mountain bikes, el alma debe estar lista para encontrarse con una perspectiva cenital: el palmar y sus pastizales se fusionan entre flores amarillas y frutos anaranjados. El recorrido transita el parque de lado a lado, desde la RN 14 hasta la costa del río Uruguay.

Dos de los senderos conducen al arroyo El Palmar y alcanzan puntos panorámicos.

Si se atraviesan los arroyos en canoa, se pueden conseguir mejores avistamientos gracias a su andar sigiloso. Con suerte durante el día y en las épocas de mayor calor, los lagartos overos salen de sus cuevas para asolearse por ahí.

Pocos kilómetros antes de llegar a la costa una rotonda ofrece un desvío hasta la playa y el sitio histórico La Calera del Palmar que permite conocer parte del pasado jesuita de la zona. Entre la selva en galería, se percibe un gran barranco que se incrusta en el río, y el ambiente tranquilizador obliga a instalar el picnic mientras los pescadores esperan pacientes el pique de boga o surubí sobre la playa de arena.

Your soul should be prepared to get a zenith perspective from the bicycle: the Palm forest and the high grass combine with yellow flowers and orange fruits. The bike tour takes you across the park, from side to side, from NR 14 to the coast of the Uruguay River, and introduces visitors to the daily life among the ancient and high palms.

Two of the paths lead to the El Palmar stream and reach panoramic views. If you cross the streams with a canoe you can get the best sightings. In the daytime and in the hot season the gold tegu come out of their caves to bathe in the sun.

A few kilometers before reaching the coast a traffic circle offers an alternative road to the beach and the historical site of the lime quarry of El Palmar, that allows you to get to know part of the Jesuit past of the area. UNTA TOMBO.– Este año son más de un millón de personajitos en blanco y negro, graciosos con sus 45 cm de estatura y sus nidos circulares calados por todo el terreno de Punta Tombo, 115 km al sur de las ciudades cabeceras de Chubut, Trelew y Rawson.

A donde se dirija la vista, allí están.

Acomodándose el plumaje con el pico, durmiendo de a dos a la sombra de un arbusto, emitiendo su peculiar sonido a todo volumen o asoleándose tranquilos mientras comienzan a empollar los huevos que nacerán en un par de meses, al abrigo del benévolo verano de esta costa patagónica que los recibe anualmente.

Mientras la escena está en movimiento, los visitantes se inmiscuyen en ella mediante senderos y puentecitos que hacen honor a una de las máximas del lugar: ceder el paso a los pingüinos de Magallanes, dueños de septiembre a marzo de este palmo donde se sienten seguros y tranquilos para reproducirse, empollar, ver nacer a sus pichones, que ellos cambien el plumaje y luego, encarar hacia mar adentro en busca de comida.

Apenas se ingresa en el camino principal de la reserva, ellos esperan a la vera misma del sendero compartiendo su rutina diaria sin alterarse ante las cámaras, los

OMBO POINT.- This year there are more than a million little funny fellows in black and white, with their 45 centimeters height and their round nests over the whole of Tombo Point, 115 km south of Trelew and Rawson, the main towns in Chubut province. Wherever you look, there they are. Grooming their feathers, sleeping two by two in the shade of a shrub, giving out their peculiar sound or calmly basking in the sun, while sitting on their eggs from where their young will be born in a couple of months, protected by the benevolent summer of this Patagonia coast that receives them every year.

Visitors insert themselves in this movable scene, following paths and crossing little bridges, honoring one of the commandments

of the place: give the Magellan penguins the right of way, they are the owners from September to March of this place where they feel safe and calm enough to reproduce, sit on their eggs, see their young born, change their feathers and then go out to sea in search of food.

As soon as you take the main road of the reservation, they are by the path, sharing their daily routine and they are not shy of the cameras, the binoculars or the close up looks, less than a meter away. This is an ideal destination for very young travelers to get to know an eco system, with simplicity and lots of emotions in the 3 kilometer tour to the coast, as long as they understand the basic rule of respecting the habitat, always remaining on the marked paths, and so

Situated in Dos Pozos, where there is an ancient postal station and a ranch that has been divided in two by the road coming from provincial route 1 to the reservation, Tombo Point protects the magic of the penguins from September to March, waiting for them in a precious vigil each season. To get to this place you need to enjoy the 22 kilometers of pebble road that is the last stretch. Bajar la velocidad y ser cuidadoso en la ruta no sólo encuentra sus respuestas en las curvas y la composición del suelo, sino también en la presencia de otros animales que conviven con los de frac

Consejos / Tips Cargar combustible para todo el trayecto en las ciudades cabecera y llevar agua y provisiones. Aunque la temperatura sea baja, ponerse gorro y protector solar. El calzado de trekking es óptimo para el paseo. Consultar previamente un pronóstico confiable y el estado del ripio; y si la visita es con niños, instruirlos sobre el respeto a los animales y que no se aparten de los senderos. / Fill your tank for the full trip before leaving the town and take water and provisions. Though the temperature can get low, use a hat and sun tan lotion.

Trekking shoes are great for this tour. You should previously ask about the weather and the state of the pebble road; and if you are taking kids, teach them to respect the animals and not stray from the paths.

Encuentro de estepa y océano, senderos y nidos mediante, en la reserva / Where the steppe meets the ocean, with paths and nests, in the reservation

en esta región, como es el caso de los piches o peludos, las maras patagónicas, los zorros grises, algún ñandú petiso en alocada carrera, y los guanacos de cuello erguido atendiendo al paso de los autos con curiosidad.

Una vez que la estepa y sus arbustos desembocan en la entrada del paseo, se descubre el paisaje que define a Tombo.

Una franja de playa estrecha que se dibuja sobre el mar por más de 3 km, y de la aridez pasa a la riqueza del océano profundamente azul, bravo e hipnotizante. Por encima, sobrevuelan gaviotas y cormoranes, gritan skúas, y quizás se tenga la suerte de que aparezca el petrel gigante, un ave admirable, de casi un metro de altura y alas de 50 cm.

Pero los protagonistas aquí son los pingüinos. Ellos se atreven a las olas de la playa, surfeando cual expertos. Otros, prefieren la calidez del nido debajo de un arbusto. Y muchos más, cruzarse en el sendero con los caminantes, mirarlos a la cara y seguir su paso cansino sin problemas. Uno siente entonces que el encuentro mágico ya está cumplido.

animals that share the place with the little fellow in tails, such as the Pichi (Zaedyus pichiy) or Dwarf Armadillo, the Patagonia Mara (Dolichotis patagonum), the grey fox, the Darwin Rhea (Pterocnemia pennata) running crazily about, and the guanaco (Lama guanicoe), their long necks held high and their curios gaze at the cars going by.

Once the steppe and its shrubbery come to the entrance to the tour, you discover the landscape that defines Tombo. A thin stretch of beach along 3 km, passing from the arid land to the richness of the ocean, deep blue, hypnotizing. You have gulls flying above, along with cormorants, and screeching jaegers (Stercorariidae Stercorarius), and maybe you will be lucky enough to see the giant petrels (Procellariidae), almost a meter high and with 50 cm wings.

But the main characters here are the penguins. They expertly surf the waves.

Others prefer the warmth of the nest below a shrub. And many more like to meet the visitors on the paths, look them in the face and continue on their way. One feels then the magic encounter has happened.

Estos kayaks son de gran estabilidad y de fácil manejo, no necesitando experiencia previa para realizar una salida con baja dificultad. El resultado será una exploración apacible por los espejos de agua, lagos o ríos, en la que se registrarán experiencias únicas como acceder a playas y rincones a los que sólo el agua permite llegar, y respirar el aire de los bosques milenarios más alejados y los extremos más agrestes que el parque puede ofrecer.

dad del kayak, llamada ducky o kayaks inflables con los cuales puede uno deslizarse por las corrientes de los ríos de montaña, sorteando rápidos clase II – III (agua con corriente en el primer caso; agua con corriente y obstáculos donde se debe saber hacer el rol o maniobra de enderezar el kayak al volcarse, en el segundo). Las aguas cristalinas elegidas habitualmente para esta actividad son las del Río Manso que nace en los glaciares del cerro Tronador a casi 2000 metros de altura y recorre distintas secciones hasta cruzar la cordillera de los Andes y desembocar sus aguas en el Océano Pacífico, en Chile. En este caso, la necesidad de un buen estado físico es importante: a veces, los duckies se tumban y habrá que zambullirse a nadar un poco.

If you have the time and some experience, you can try two or three day outings, taking all the camping and cooking equipment in the kayaks, including maps, compasses, and the desire to get to know the purest reaches of the park.

For young people, there is another modality of Kayak, called ducky, or inflatable kayaks, with which you can follow mountain river currents, with class II – III rapids (streams with a current in the first case; streams with a current and obstacles, where you need to know how to right an overturned kayak, in the second case). The crystalline waters usually chosen for this activity are those of the Manso River, that is born in the glaciers of mount Tronador, almost 2000 meters high, and that after crossing the Andes, flows into the Pacific Ocean in Chile. o en vano el golf, el polo, los balnearios y las empresas en plan de promoción más cool sobre el mar argentino se concentran en estas dos localidades surcadas de pinares. Definitivamente, la sofisticación es el sello de Pinamar y Cariló, donde los médanos juguetean con el bosque en un encuentro natural franco y las casonas, a cuál más bella, se entrometen en la geografía de callecitas trazadas en medio de los árboles.

Las actividades náuticas también encuentran aquí su eco, con protagonistas del windsurf, el wakeboard y el jet ski adentrándose en las olas con destreza a toda hora. Por eso, además de por la importante actividad nocturna que nunca cesa, los jóvenes se inclinan por Pinamar, mientras que las familias con niños más pequeños o las parejas en plan romántico, eligen a Cariló, sus construcciones en madera y piedra, así como sus centros comerciales

con fuentes de hierro, puentecitos, plazoletas, bares encantadores, y numerosas hadas y gnomos pendiendo por doquier con mirada curiosa.

Para los que buscan adrenalina, los paseos en cuatriciclos o 4x4 hacia la zona de La Frontera son ideales, mientras que otros prefieren ir al paso de a caballo y aprovechar la ocasión para el avistaje de aves, o desandar el sotobosque en mountain bike.

En plan relajado, el golf ofrece dos canchas alternativas: la par 73 de Cariló, con 18 hoyos con fairways angostos delineados entre las coníferas; y la par 72 de Pinamar, también con 18 hoyos, green defendidos por bunkers importantes y mucho movimiento en el trazado.

Los médanos definen la silueta de las playas, donde no falta el deporte ni la tranquilidad para asolearse, leer un libro o hacer castillitos de arena con los niños.

olf, polo, resorts and companies promoting their business all converge in the coolest spots on the Argentine coast, these two localities with the dunes covered with pines. Sophistication is the seal of Pinamar and Cariló, where the sand dunes play with the forest in a natural encounter and the big houses, each one more beautiful than the next, in the mids of streets winding thorugh the dunes and threes.

Nautical activities are found here too, with windsurf, wakeboard and jet ski present at all hours. That is why, together with the night life that never ends, young people prefer Pinamar, while families with kids or couples in a romantic plan choose Cariló, with its constructions in wood and stone, and its commercial malls with iron fountains, little

bridges, plazas, charming bars and fairies and gnomes looking down with their curious eyes.

For those that enjoy adrenaline trips, there are ATV or SUV tours towards the La Frontera zone; others may prefer walking a horse and enjoying the possibility of watching the birds or going through the underbrush with a mountain bike.

If you want relax, golf offers two alternative courses: the 73 par in Cariló, with 18 holes in narrow fairways through the trees; and the 72 par in Pinamar, also with 18 holes, important bunkers and lots of movement.

The dunes define the silhouette of the beaches, where there are sports and also calm spots where you can enjoy the sun, read a book or build castles in the sand with the kids.

illa Gesell, Mar de las Pampas, Las Gaviotas y Mar Azul, en ese orden de Norte a Sur, conforman un conjunto precioso de playas anchas, dunas, complejos hoteleros sobre la arena y bosques densos como pulmones en medio de poblados tranquilos donde la arquitectura moderna se aprovecha de las visuales del entorno con justicia.

Aquí, el vértigo no existe, a menos que los cuatriciclos sean el método de locomoción para desafiar la arena o se elija un caballo para andar al galope. Las versiones familiares de ambos programas están a la orden del día y permiten acercarse a un símbolo de esta zona costera, ya sea en emocionantes travesías nocturnas o a la luz del día. El ícono es el Faro Querandí, 30 km. al sur de Gesell, rodeado de dunas vírgenes y protegido de las perturbaciones ya que el único acceso es por la playa en excursiones guiadas.

Pinar del Norte en Gesell, donde está el vivero municipal así como el Museo Histórico Municipal, que fuera la primera casa del fundador de la ciudad. O por las noches de verano, buscar un buen puesto en el Anfiteatro del Pinar para disfrutar conciertos en la acústica del bosque. La vida nocturna joven aquí es un sello.

En Mar de las Pampas no faltan las ferias artesanales ni los paseos encantadores como el que conserva un vagón de tren. En el centro, los chocolates de Pinocha son una tentación al paso tanto como los churros rellenos con dulce de leche (un clásico) y hay numerosos restaurantes cuyas terrazas están caladas por los árboles para dejar que sigan elevándose hacia el cielo. Juntar caracoles en la playa, sentir la presencia de los aromos deliciosos en flor a la par de las caminatas o dar un paseo en bicicleta también son excelentes opciones para disfrutar la tranquilidad de estos pueblitos costeros.

Pinar del Norte in Gesell, where you find the local plant nursery and the Municipal Historical Museum, which was the first house of the founder of the town. By night in summer you need to get a good seat in the Amphitheatre in the Pine woods, to enjoy concerts with the acoustics of the forest. Young night life is the attraction here.

In Mar de las Pampas there are artisan fairs and charming tours including an ancient train carriage.

Downtown Pinocha chocolates are a great temptation, as are the milk jam filled churros (a classic) and there are numerous restaurants with terraces among the tree tops. Gathering sea shells by the sea shore, feeling the presence of the flowering and perfumed Acacia, or take a bicycle ride, another option for enjoying the calm of the coastal towns.

The icon here is the Querandí lighthouse, 30 km to the south of Villa Gesell, surrounded by virgin dunes and protected commotions, since the only access is form the beach in guided tours.

MAR DEL PLATA, un clásico siempre de moda

apostados en la Escollera Sur donde una reserva de fauna les brinda tranquilidad.

Los barcos pesqueros naranjas salen y regresan con la pesca del día, y para los que se tienten con la idea, hay excursiones de pesca para adentrarse en el mar y su filosofía.

Los barcos de paseo recorren Plata Grande, Cabo Corrientes hasta el casino para volver luego al puerto y en cuestión de una hora, dar una semblanza de la ciudad desde las olas.

La movida cultural y artística es intensa, ya sea con un mimo en plena calle como en los balnearios al atardecer o en los teatros con sus plumas por la noche. La calle Güemes es el centro comercial por excelencia y la compra obligada son los alfajores y conitos de chocolate.

Cornalitos, calamares, mejillones, cholgas, vieyras… La lista de tentaciones marinas salteadas con arroz, en paella, marinadas o fritas están a la orden del día en las cartas de los restaurantes del puerto dispuestos en semicírculo con una plaza central y un parque de diversiones sobre un costado, para placer de los pequeños. Algunos incluso venden sus especialidades por kilo y durante los mediodías se llenan de turistas.

No habrá foto que uno deba perderse en este recorrido que mixtura la vida urbana intensa con las playas populosas, los balnearios repletos de sombrillas y los otros, más alejados, sobre la reserva forestal, relajados con la música chill out sonando de fondo.

he “happy city”, as Mar del Plata is known, is a succession of postcards: the boardwalk downtown, the cliffs that the Tandilia system brings to some beaches, the Provincial Casino, and the theatres with their neon lights, the rusty boats with their fishing stories in the port.

You will not want to miss any snapshot in this tour that mixes intense urban life with heavily populated beaches, the resorts full of umbrellas and the others, further away, in the forest reservation, relaxed with chill out music in the back ground.

The port is one of the stops you will not want to miss, where you can eat (see box), take some souvenirs for your home library or get to know the sea lions in the southern breakwater where there is a fauna reservation that offers them peace and quiet. The orange fishing boats go out and return with the day’s catch, and for those tempted with the idea, there are fishing expedition that take you out to sea.

The touring boats go by Playa Grande, Cape Corrientes, to the casino, and then return to the port; in an hour you can get a view of the city from the waves.

There is an intense cultural and artistic scene, including mimes in the streets and the resorts in the afternoon or the theatres with plumes by night. Güemes street is the commercial center par excellence and you just have to buy alfajores and chocolate cones.

Debido a las precipitaciones ocurridas en el invierno en el Norte de Chile se puede apreciar hasta los primeros días de diciembre un espectáculo único en el planeta que lleva por nombre propio el “Desierto Florido”.

Se trata de semillas que, esperando unas cuantas gotas de agua, despiertan de su letargo y, cual arco iris, llenan de color y vida un paisaje digno de visitar y conservar.

Tímidamente en agosto se dejan ver los primeros brotes para en septiembre explotar de manera definitiva. Son campos completos de “Patas de Guanaco” (Cistanthe longiscapa), “Suspiros” (Nolana Paradoxa) y “Huilles” (Leucocoryne appendiculata) solo por nombrar algunos que se pueden apreciar a simple vista.

n unusual phenomenon ocurrs every so many years in one of the most arid areas of the world, Atacama.

But this year it is different. Due to rain fallen in winter in Northern Chile you can appreciate the first days of December a unique spectacle that is called “Flowering Desert”.

Seeds that with a few drops of water wake from their sleep, and like a rainbow, fill with color and life and landscape worth a visit. In August the first sprouts timidly appear and in September it definitely explodes. They are fields full of “Patas de Guanaco” (Cistanthe Longiscapa), “Suspiros” (Nolana Paradoxa) and “Hilles” (Leucocoryne appendiculata),

to name only the few you can appreciate.

With greater patience and you find the Lilies (Alstroemeriaceae) and the spectacular Garra de León (Leontochir ovallei), surprising visitors coming from diverse latitudes. This last flower is in a complicated situation, endangered, mainly because in its habitat livestock is being introduced and because of people that unknowingly pick the flower, not allowing its beauty to mature.

If you go in search of the “perfect snapshot” there are several options in the Llanos de Challe National Park. This area protected by the Chilean State is in the Coastal Desert, to the north of the city of Huasco, Third Region of Atacama. Access

Con mayor paciencia y detención, son los Lirios (de la familia Alstroemeriaceae) y la espectacular Garra de León (Leontochir ovallei) las que sorprenden a visitantes llegados de diversas latitudes. Esta última se encuentra en una situación compleja, de peligro, principalmente por la amenaza a su hábitat por parte de ganado introducido y por el desconocimiento de personas que arrancan su flor imposibilitando que su belleza perdure en el tiempo.

Si se va en busca de “esa foto perfecta”, hay varias opciones en el Parque Nacional Llanos de Challe. Esta área protegida por el Estado Chileno se encuentra en el Desierto Costero, al norte de la ciudad de Huasco, III Región de Atacama. El acceso a este lugar es expedito a través de la Carretera Panamericana N°5 hasta Vallenar (660 km al norte de Santiago), luego tomando el desvío en dirección oeste hasta Huasco y luego torciendo al norte por un camino costero en planes de mejoramiento.

Si no se cuenta con vehículo, existe transporte público hasta Huasco a través de

buses interurbanos, realizando el último tramo (30 minutos hasta el Parque Nacional) a través de taxis o tours especializados en este fenómeno. Las principales actividades a realizar son interpretación ambiental, fotografía de naturaleza, birdwatching y caminatas por los senderos.

En el sector de Playa Blanca se encuentra un Camping administrado por CONAF y sus guardaparques, quienes orientan a los visitantes sobre el comportamiento recomendado para disfrutar de la mejor manera la estadía.

Huasco es una ciudad con todos los servicios: se lo puede establecer como punto base para excursiones diarias como alternativa al campamento. Otras buenas experiencias en la zona que complementan al desierto será darse una vuelta por los Valles del Alto del Carmen con su industria del pisco artesanal; el Valle del Huasco y sus excelentes aceites de oliva; avistar ballenas y delfines en la Caleta de Pescadores Chañaral de Aceituno; y comer ricos pescados y mariscos en los restaurantes de Huasco.

is really fast by Panamerican Route Nº 5 to Vallenar (660 km north of Santigao), then you take the west branch to Huasco, and turning north on the coastal road that is being worked on.

If you do not have a vehicle, there is a public bus to Huasco, making the last stretch (30 minutes to the National Park) with a taxi or special tours. The main activities are environmental interpretation, nature photography, birdwatching and walks along the paths. In the Playa Blanca area there is a camping zone managed

by CONAF and its officers that can offer directions on how to bet enjoy your stay.

Huasco is a city with all the necessary services: you can stay there as an alternative to the camping zone. Other good experiences in the area complementary of the desert would be visiting the Alto del Carmen Valleys with their artisan pisco industry; the Huasco Valley with its excellent olive oil; you can go whale and dolphin sighting in the Chañaral de Aceituno Fishing cove; and eating tasty fish and seafood at restaurants in Huasco.

Entonces, el guardaparques, el dueño del almacén, los guías del museo de arqueología o los guías particulares empezarán a tener nombre propio para organizar el paseo de día completo por el pueblo. Subiendo unos kilómetros por el camino del cerro rojizo, aparecerá un jardín de cactus así como piedras planas donde se reproducen los versos de Don Atahualpa. Detrás está la casa, hoy museo, con las pantuflas, los lentes, la guitarra, un centenar de discos, partituras y versos manuscritos, fotos con artistas famosos y la música de fondo que lo revive día tras día.

Ya en la reserva, un inmenso alero de unos 400 metros, calado por la erosión sobre las sierras, descubre los testimonios rupestres del arte aborigen. Sobre la piedra hay pinturas en rojo, blanco y negro, zoomorfas, geométricas y hasta humanas, que detallan la llegada de los españoles a estas tierras. Se sabe que estos petroglifos fueron realizados entre los siglos V y XVI y hoy están protegidos por senderos bien delimitados, acceso únicamente con guías autorizados y un respeto fundamental sobre el legado originario.

Cómo llegar / How to get there Desde la ciudad de Córdoba, tomar la Ruta Nacional 9 hasta Santa Elena. Allí se desvía por la Ruta Provincial 11, para completar los 165 km de distancia totales. El paisaje recibe con sierras de 800 msnm, bosque chaqueño de espinillos, molles, talas y matos (vegetal exclusivo de estas tierras) y alguna flora de llanura como algarrobos e inusuales palmeras.

Behind them is the house, a museum now with his slippers, his glasses, his guitar, a hundred records, music score sheets and hand written verses, photographs with famous artists and the music sounding and reviving him every day.

In the reservation there is immense eaves, some 400 meters long, carved by erosion on the sierra, discovering the cave paintings of aboriginal art. On the stone there are paintings in red, white, and black, zoomorphic, symbolic, geometric, and even human, that express the arrival of the Spaniards to these lands. It is known that these petrogliphs were made between the Vth and XVIth centuries and today are protected by paths that limit access, and you can reach them only with authorized guides, with a fundamental respect for the original people’s legacy.

f the old market, the first providing fruit and vegetables in the city that opened in 1893, there is much still standing.
