Acoustics architecture During your trip, it is important that you get to know the Tlaqná concert hall: it is home to the Symphonic Orchestra of Xalapa, and combines science and art to reach the perfect acoustics. The materials used are of high density, the acoustic diffusor on the stage is a structure made of steel and laminated curved glass, which diffuses sound uniformly to the whole room, and the furniture was submitted to laboratory tests in order to fulfill the absorption and acoustic reflection standards. El MAX recibió el National Landscape Award, por el Gobierno de los Estados Unidos, en 1992, y el Premio de Arquitectura del Paisaje, por la Sociedad de Arquitectos Paisajistas de México, en 2000.

En ese entorno está el Museo de Antropología de Xalapa, conocido como MAX: es el segundo recinto museográfico más importante de México en su género -después del Museo Nacional de Antropología, en CDMX- porque recopila una colección de arte prehispánico. Para mostrar al mundo esta inmensa cantidad de obras, el arquitecto norteamericano Raymond Gómez ideó un proyecto que le tomó 15 meses, y la ejecución de la obra estuvo a cargo del pool neoyorkino de arquitectos Durrell & Stone, logrando un edificio de forma alargada, con una disposición en desniveles, e integra las características estéticas y naturales de la región; por ejemplo, las ventanas cuadradas del MAX evocan los nichos característicos de El Tajín, mientras que sus patios son unos auténticos jardines botánicos.

Veracruz culture If you enjoy visiting museums, Xalapa is one of the country’s most beautiful cultural destinations, because it has unique venues, and is also located in the mountain, so that nature and the almost yearlong rainy/ cloudy weather give you a different experience. In this environment, is located the Anthropology Museum of Xalapa, also known as MAX (Museo de Antropología de Xalapa): it is the largest museographic exhibition space of its kind –after the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City- because it concentrates a pre-Hispanic art collection. In order to show the world this huge amount of works of art, the North American architect Raymond Gómez thought of a project that took him 15 months to accomplish. The construction work was given to the New York pool of architects Durrell & Stone, achieving a long shaped building, with inclined structure arrangements, integrating the aesthetic and natural features of the region; for example, the square windows of the MAX recall El Tajin’s characteristic niches, whereas its patios are truly botanic gardens.

Al llegar, te va a impresionar el tamaño de los hermosos jardines que rodean al museo; una vez dentro, el vestíbulo muestra la magnitud del museo y, por su diseño, pasas por la Sala Olmeca, la Sala Totonaca y la Sala Huasteca prácticamente sin instrucciones del recorrido, pues todo está organizado para que sigas una ´línea del tiempo’ por la cultura veracruzana, que se alterna con los jardines, donde también hay obras expuestas. El MAX también tiene dos espacios de exposición temporal que muestra plástica contemporánea; hay una librería, un auditorio para 300 personas y una cafetería que en días de cielo despejado te da una magnífica vista del Pico de Orizaba y del Cofre de Perote.
When arriving, you will be impressed by the size of the beautiful gardens which surrender the museum; once inside, the lobby shows the magnitude of the museum, and thanks to its design, you will go from the Olmeca Hall, to the Totonaca Hall and to the Huasteca Hall with barely no tour directions, as everything is organized so you can follow a ‘timeline’ into Veracruz culture, alternating with gardens visits, where works of art are also exhibited. The MAX also has two temporary exhibition spaces showing modern visual art; there is a bookstore, an auditorium for 300 people and a cafeteria from which you have a magnificent view of the volcanoes Pico de Orizaba and Cofre del Perote, on sunny days..

La Cineteca Nacional resguarda un acervo de cine para hacerlo disponible al público en todos sus formatos, además que aprovecha al máximo las nuevas tecnologías. El Museo Nacional de Arte de México tiene una colección de arte mexicano que va de la época virreinal a los años 50. El majestuoso edificio es identificable por la estatua de Carlos IV de España, conocida como El caballito. El museo reúne piezas de artistas como Andrés de la Concha, Manuel Tolsá, Santiago Rebull, José María Velasco, Saturnino Herrán, Ángel Zárraga, Gerardo Murillo, María Izquierdo y Diego Rivera. Refinado arte cerámico Tesoro artesanal del norte
El pueblo Juan Mata Ortiz está a 35 kilómetros de Casas Grandes, en el norte de Chihuahua, y basa su existencia en la creatividad alfarera: su cerámica es la más elegante manifestación del manejo de barro en México porque utiliza las mismas técnicas y diseños de hace 1,300 años. Estas creaciones son el objeto del deseo de los coleccionistas internacionales y, como cada pieza tiene características irrepetibles, muchas están exhibidas en museos de todo el mundo. Los jarrones, platos y piezas decorativas parecen surgir de mentes artísticas de gran refinamiento; las formas son trazadas por artesanos de pulso extraordinariamente firme: grecas, líneas rectas y curvas, figuras geométricas, animales y hombres quedan estampados sobre una delgada textura de barro hecha con una mezcla de diferentes arcillas.

Talento ancestral A medio kilómetro de Casas Grandes está Paquimé, población que tuvo 3,500 habitantes, pero no se conoce su origen ni la lengua que hablaban; sólo quedan construcciones de adobe con formas orgánicas, lo que refleja la gran destreza arquitectónica de sus antiguos pobladores. Desde 1988 es Patrimonio de la Humanidad por la UNESCO.

Half a kilometer away from Casas Grandes is Paquimé, a village that reached 3,500 inhabitants, but which origin or language spoken has been unknown; the only remains are sun-dried brick constructions of organic shapes, showing the great architectonic dexterity of its ancient settlers. Since 1988, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The town of Juan Mata Ortiz is located 35 kilometers from Casas Grandes, in the north of Chihuahua, and its existence is based on the pottery creativity: its ceramic is the most elegant expression of clay work in Mexico, because it uses the same techniques and designs than 1,300 years ago. These creations are the object of desire of international collectors, and since every piece possesses unique features, many are exhibited in museums all around the world. The vases, plates and decorative pieces seem to come out of very refined artistic minds; the geometric shapes are drawn by craftsmen with an extraordinary firm hand: fretworks, straight and curved lines, geometric figures, animals and humans, are printed over a thin layer of mud made of a mix of different clays. Nevertheless, this technique was forgotten for a long period of time, until the craftsman master Juan Quezada revived it, almost 50 years ago. As a child he was a lumberjack, so he knew perfectly the products of this deserted area; additionally, he was born with an innate drawing ability, which added up to his enormous creativity to produce color paints made from insects, plants and soil, as wells as clay pastes resistant to high temperatures.

Sin embargo, esta técnica quedó olvidada durante mucho tiempo, hasta que hasta hace casi 50 años el maestro artesano Juan Quezada la revivió. De niño él era leñador, así que conocía perfectamente los productos de la zona desértica; además, nació con una habilidad natural para dibujar, que se sumó a su enorme creatividad para hacer pinturas de colores con insectos, plantas y tierra, así como pastas de arcilla resistentes a las altas temperaturas. Entonces, Quezada quiso igualar las cerámicas que encontró en la región, pues eran testimonios de los artistas que vivieron allí cientos de años atrás, por lo que decidió dedicar su vida al oficio de ceramista y así cambió la historia moderna del poblado, ya que compartió sus conocimientos entre familiares y amigos, llegando a la cuarta generación de ceramistas. Hoy, Juan Mata Ortiz es un lugar que mantiene viva su tradición alfarera y atrae a turistas, galeristas, coleccionistas y ceramistas de todo mundo.

El Conjunto de Artes Escénicas vino a completar de forma extraordinaria las opciones de esparcimiento, arte y cultura que tiene Jalisco. Fernández Guinart La música como pasión Camila Fernández Guinart, nieta de Vicente Fernández e hija de Alejandro Fernández, heredó su pasión por la música y, a sus 20 años de edad, está forjando su carrera como compositora y cantante. “De niña tomé clases de solfeo, canto y música; compongo desde los 11 años; estoy enamorada del jazz, blues, bossa-nova y R&B; mis composiciones mezclan estos estilos con ritmos latinos. Me inspiro en vivencias, libros, paisajes, momentos…”, platica la talentosa joven. Estudió la carrera de música en el Berklee College of Music, en Valencia, España, donde vivió “una experiencia muy enriquecedora y decidí continuar en Boston, porque está más cerca de México”. Como fruto de su preparación, ya vio la luz su EP titulado Mío, que “incluye El niño más grande, que le compuse a mi papá como regalo de cumpleaños; Verdades que matan habla de situaciones que debemos afrontar; El hijo de la innombrable es un bossa-nova inspirado en los sapos que hay que besar mientras llega el príncipe azul; y Moreno trata de cuando te enamoras de alguien de quien nunca pensaste enamorarte, entre otras canciones”.

En cuanto a su personalidad, “mi gran cualidad es la tenacidad y mi mayor defecto es ser muy distraída. Mis pasatiempos son leer, componer en español e inglés, cantar, tocar guitarra, ukulele, piano, violín y estoy aprendiendo a tocar la batería. Hago ejercicio y como sano, pero el fin de semana rompo mi dieta porque soy súper antojada. Me encantan los perros, ¡tengo diez!, y mis consentidos son Danna, una chihuahua, y Leonardo, un pastor inglés”. El apoyo que tiene la compositora viene de sus personas más cercanas. “Mi mamá, mi papá, mi hermano Alejandro y mi hermana América son lo mejor que la vida me ha dado; tengo excelentes abuelos, tíos y amigos. Soy muy amada, también amo mucho. ¡Soy afortunada y muy feliz!”, comenta con alegría.

Duelo de cocteles Cocktail Duel Por vez primera en México, Tequila Espolón celebró el Espolón Cocktail Fights, donde más de 200 bartender de todo el país se enfrentaron en una ‘guerra de cocteles’, armados con su talento y originalidad. La gran final fue el 16 de octubre, en la Arena Espolón, en Guadalajara, en una batalla formada por dos equipos de dos bartender. El triunfo se lo llevaron Jesús Ortega y Aldo Gerardo Reyes, de Rosewood Puebla, quienes ganaron un viaje a Nueva York para la final de la tercera edición de Espolón Cocktail Fights en su versión estadounidense.
Por vez primera en México, Tequila Espolón celebró el Espolón Cocktail Fights, donde más de 200 bartender de todo el país se enfrentaron en una ‘guerra de cocteles’, armados con su talento y originalidad. La gran final fue el 16 de octubre, en la Arena Espolón, en Guadalajara, en una batalla formada por dos equipos de dos bartender. ¿Cuánta materia gris tienes? How much grey matter do you have?
Según la Real Academia de la Lengua Española, el altruismo es “diligencia en procurar el bien ajeno, aún a costa del propio”; pero, ¿realmente existen personas con una característica biológica distinta? Ernest Fehr, catedrático de la Universidad de Zurich, realizó estudios neurocientíficos que demuestran la conexión entre la anatomía cerebral, la actividad del cerebro y el comportamiento altruista, así como la presencia de un gen en los individuos más altruistas: el AVPR1a. Aunque los resultados son de gran interés, no debemos llegar a la conclusión que los comportamientos altruistas vienen determinados por factores biológicos, ya que el volumen de materia gris está relacionado a procesos sociales, así que existe la posibilidad de desarrollar ciertas áreas del cerebro mediante una formación social apropiada. Cuando platicas con personas que les gusta ayudar a otras, dicen que lo hacen porque “reciben más de lo que dan”, y diversos estudios muestran beneficios mentales y físicos; por ejemplo: aporta sentido de integración, reduce el aislamiento, ayuda a tomar perspectiva de nuestra situación y a valorarla; mejora la confianza, el control, la felicidad y el optimismo. También reduce el estrés y los sentimientos negativos. Está probado que la solidaridad hace que el cerebro libere dopamina, serotonina y oxitocina, que hacen que el individuo se sienta mejor; así que, ¿por qué no probar la experiencia del altruismo que tantos beneficios nos ofrece? Though the results are of great interest, we should not conclude that altruistic behaviors are determined by biological factors, since the volume of grey matter is related to social processes, so there is the possibility of developing certain areas of the brain through an appropriate social formation. When you talk to people who like to help others, they say they do it because “they get more that they receive”, and diverse studies show mental and physical benefits; for example: it brings a sense of integration, reduces isolation, helps us take perspective of our situation and value it; improves confidence, control, happiness and optimism. It also reduces stress and negative feelings. It is proven that solidarity causes the brain to release dopamine, serotonin and oxytocin, which make the individual feel better; So, why not try the altruism experience that offers so many benefits?
