Chiapas es un destino emergente que aprovecha cada oportunidad para crecer, avanzar y salir adelante, y una de sus fortalezas es la riqueza natural, integrándola al turismo como pieza clave en el desarrollo del Estado. Las autoridades trabajan para reactivar la economía chiapaneca mediante el Instituto Nacional de Economía Social, organismo que este 2018 asignará más de 2 mil millones de pesos para 1,400 proyectos que benefician a 90 municipios. El apoyo lo recibirán productores de queso de la frailesca, joyeros de ámbar con plata de la zona alta de Chiapas, productores de tuna de Ocozocoautla, textileros de Zinacantán, tejedores de tapetes de Larráinzar, productores de pitahaya de Suchiapa y los agentes de la cadena productiva cafetalera. Por su parte, la Oficina de Convenciones y Visitantes de Chiapas se planteó un reto para este año: posicionar al Estado como destino de ferias y negocios, pues la ventaja competitiva que tiene son los productos turísticos como la Ruta del Café, la Selva Lacandona, Ocosingo, Palenque, Misol-Ha y Chiapa de Corzo, más las actividades que pueden hacer los visitantes antes, durante y después del evento en dichos lugares, pues es un segmento que genera gran derrama económica debido a la cantidad de servicios que requiere, sumado a que Tuxtla Gutiérrez tiene el Centro de Convenciones Poliforum, y Palenque cuenta con nuevas opciones de conectividad área. En cuanto a puntos de interés, Chiapas requiere varias visitas para conocerlo: Comitán es el punto de partida para ir a las Lagunas de Montebello, que son las formaciones de agua más impresionantes del país por su naturaleza kárstica (relieves sobre las rocas) y uvala (cenotes que la corrosión y los derrumbes unieron); el color de sus aguas azul intenso se debe al tipo de suelo, vegetación y refracción de la luz.
Cuidado ecológico Debes ir a El Madresal. Es un proyecto de la gente de Ponte Duro con el fin de conservar la flora y fauna de la región, y tiene el Certificado de Empresa Turística Modelo MODERNIZA, otorgado en 2010 por la Secretaría de Turismo del Estado de Chiapas. Está a 45 kilómetros de Tonalá, por la carretera Tonalá-Puerto Arista y sigue la desviación de Cabeza de Toro. Hay hospedaje en cabañas, restaurante de mariscos, paseos en lancha con guías experimentados y playas vírgenes.
La palabra Chiapas significa ‘cerro de la chía’ o ‘agua debajo del cerro’.
Environmental care You need to go to El Madresal. It is a project by the people of Ponte Duro with the objective of protecting the flora and fauna of the region, and has the MODERNIZA Certification of a Touristic Model Organization, awarded in 2010 by the Secretary of Tourism of the State of Chiapas. It is located 45 kilometers of Tonalá, on the road Tonalá-Puerto Arista, following the detour Cabeza de Toro. There is accommodation in cabins, a seafood restaurant, boat tours with experienced guides and virgin beaches.
The word Chiapas means “chía hill or “water below the hill”.

Hallucinating trip An economy that is growing Chiapas is an emerging destination that takes advantage of every opportunity it has to grow, move forward, and move on, and one of its strengths is natural wealth, by integrating it to tourism as a key part of the State’s growth. The authorities work on reactivating the economy of Chiapas through the National Institute of Social Economy, an organization which will assign more than 2 billion pesos in 2018, to 1,400 projects that beneficiate 90 municipalities. The support will be received by Frailesca’s cheese producers, amber jewelers using silver from the Northern area of Chiapas, tuna producers of Ocozocoautla, fabric makers of Zinacantán, rug weavers of Larráinzar, pitahaya producers of Sichiapa, and the agents of the coffee’s production chain. Besides, the Office for Conventions and Visitors of Chiapas has set a goal for this year: position the State as a fair and business destination, as the competitive

advantage it has are the touristic products such as the Coffee Route, The Lacandona Rainforest, Ocosingo, Palenque, Misol-Ha, and Chiapa de Corzo, plus the activities visitors can do before, during and after the event in those places, being a market that generates a great economic income because of the amount of services needed, adding that Tuxtla Gutiérrez possesses the Poliforum Convention Center and that Palenque has new options of connectivity area. Regarding attraction spots, Chiapas requires several visits to get to know it: Comitán is the starting point to reach Montebello’s Lagoons, which are the country’s most impressive water formations because of their karstic (rock reliefs) and their uvala (natural wells that corrosion and landslides have linked together) nature; the color of its waters is of intense blue, due to the type of soil, vegetation and light reflection.

DÍA 1 Para comenzar con el pie derecho la aventura, desayuné los deliciosos tamales chiapanecos de chipilín (tienen cientos de variedades), y luego me dirigí a la Sima de las Cotorras (sí, con ‘s’, ya que es parecido a un cenote, con 140 metros de profundidad), a aproximadamente una hora de la capital y donde admiré esta obra de la naturaleza.
Ritmo de madera Todos los días disfruta de la música por excelencia en Chiapas, la marimba, en este parque donde por tres horas la gente baila y disfruta de las notas de “las maderas que cantan”. A partir de las 6 de la tarde, forma parte de esta tradición de más de 25 años.

La Sima es el hogar de miles de cotorras y puede realizarse rapel o bien caminar la circunferencia de ésta y apreciar el arte rupestre de la cultura Zoque; ahí te consejo comer en su restaurante. Después regresamos a Tuxtla para visitar el Zoomat: un zoológico único en México, donde los animales viven en su hábitat natural, ya que las 250 especies que lo habitan son de la región. Y para terminar el día, recorrí el Museo del Café y aprendí de sus baristas la correcta forma de preparar el café en casa.
To begin the adventure on the right foot, I had for breakfast the delicious chipilín tamales from Chiapas (they have hundreds of kinds), and then headed to the Sima de las Cotorras (sima with an –s for bottom, not a –c as cima for top, as it is a kind of natural well 140-meter deep), at approximately one hour from the capital city, where I contemplated this natural work of art. The Sima is the home to thousands of parrots, and you can
rappel or walk around the natural well and enjoy Zoque’s culture cave art, from there I recommend you to eat in their restaurant. After that, we headed back to Tuxtla to visit Zoomat, a unique zoo in Mexico, where animals live in their natural habitat, as the 250 species living there are from the region. And to end the day, I visited the Coffee Museum and learned from their baristas how to prepare coffee at home in the right way.

DÍA 2 El plato principal viene con el Cañón del Sumidero y sus miradores. En mi experiencia, es más impresionante visitar primero sus cinco miradores (uno se encuentra a mil metros sobre el río Grijalva) y después nos dirigimos a Chiapa de Corzo a tomar la lancha que te adentra al Cañón, en un recorrido que me quitó el aliento: las montañas, el río, la naturaleza, cuevas, el Árbol de Navidad... Lleva preparada y bien amarrada tu cámara y disfruta del mágico paseo. Regresando a Chiapa de Corzo, degusté la deliciosa y tradicional cocina chiapaneca en el restaurante del Hotel La Ceiba y después recorrí la Plaza Principal y sus Portales. Aquí te invito a hacer el shopping.

DAY 2 The main course comes with the Sumidero Canyon and its overlooks. From my experience, it is more impressive to first visit its 5 overlooks (one of them is located one thousand meters above Grijalva River) and then we headed to Chiapa de Corzo to get on the boat that takes you into the Canyon, on a tour that took my breath away: the mountains, the river, the nature, the caves, the Christmas Tree... HaveTake your camera well set-up and tied-up, and enjoy the magical tour. Back to Chiapa de Corzo, I tasted the delicious and traditional Chiapas cuisine in the Hotel La Ceiba’s restaurant, and then I walked around the town’s Main Square and its Arches. This is where I recommend shopping.

Este día me quedé en Tuxtla; comencé con arte moderno y fui a conocer la Ciudad Mural Copoya: es una colonia donde, junto con COMEX, se han pintado decenas de casas con impresionantes murales, los cuales reflejan las costumbres u oficios de las familias que ahí viven. A unos pasos visité el Glorioso Cristo de Chiapas, una escultura que mide 62 metros y se ve desde cualquier punto de la ciudad. Regresando al centro de Tuxtla, conocí la recién inaugurada Casa de la Artesanía de Chiapas donde pude comprar directo a los artesanos hermosos souvenirs. Después de comer y como última diversión: el Parque Áereo de Aventuras Joyyo Mayu es un gran parque en el centro de Tuxtla, en el cual puedes hacer tirolesa, escalada, caminar por una cuerda entre los árboles o, como yo: disfrutar de un agradable picnic en sus áreas verdes.

DAY 3 That day, I stayed in Tuxtla; I started with contemporary art and went to know the Copoya Mural City: it͛s a neighborhood where, with the support of COMEX, were painted dozens of houses with impressive murals which picture the customs and occupations of the families living there. A few steps away, I visited Chiapas Glorious Christ, a 62-meter high sculpture which can be seen from any
viewpoint of the city. Coming back to downtown Tuxtla, I got to know the recently opened House of Chiapas Handcraft, where I could directly beautiful souvenirs from the craftsmen. After lunch and as a last amusement: the Joyyo Mayu Aerial Adventure Park, a large park in the center of Tuxtla, where you can do zip-line, climbing, forest climbing, or like me, enjoy a delightful picnic on the green areas.

Adentrándote unos kilómetros hacia Bonampak, puedes dormir en el hotel boutique Finca Vallescondido, en un rancho de 200 hectáreas donde conoces de primera mano lo que cultivan en la región. Su restaurante es un must: cocinan lo que allí producen. Y ya que estamos en la región, es imperdible ir a Yaxchilán, un complejo arqueológico maya a orillas del Río Usumacinta. Tiene una energía muy especial, es poco conocido por el público y conserva un halo de misterio... Tal vez porque la selva te rodea y escuchas los sonidos de los animales salvajes y, con suerte, hasta ves un par de monos pelear en las copas de los árboles. Dato curioso: la orilla de enfrente de las ruinas, es Guatemala. La forma de llegar es en lancha, la rentas en el poblado Frontera Corozal y la travesía dura 40 minutos, mientras admiras la Selva Lacandona y los animales que habitan el cuerpo de agua, como garzas y cocodrilos. De regreso, hospédate en el Campamento Lacandones, cerca de Bonampak; está junto al Río Lacanja -con cascadas, manantiales, lugares para nadar y el hermoso color azul del río- y ofrece servicios para un descanso súper tranquilo y relajado en el corazón de la Selva Lacandona. Ahí puedes contratar para el siguiente día aventuras como rafting, caminatas por la selva, un tour a la zona arqueológica de Bonampak o relajarte en un temazcal con ceremonia maya. Y la buena cocina está en los hoteles y restaurantes, que ofrecen platillos regionales, chiapanecos y mexicanos. Going deeper for a few kilometers towards Bonampak, you can sleep in the Finca Vallescondido boutique hotel, in a 200-hectare ranch where you get to know first-hand what is grown in the region. Its restaurant is a must: they cook what is produced on site. Since we are in the region, you can’t miss going to Yaxchilán, a Mayan archeological complex on the bank of the Usumacinta River. It possesses a very special energy, it is not very well-known, and keeps a mysterious aura… Perhaps because the rainforest surrounds you and you hear the sounds of wild animals, and with some luck, you might even see a couple of monkeys fitting at the top of the trees. Fun fact: the river bank in front of the ruins is Guatemala. The way of getting there is on a boat you rent in the town of Frontera Corozal, and the journey is 40-minute long, while you admire Lacandona’s Jungle and the animals living in the river, such as herons and crocodiles. On your way back, stay at the Lacandones Camp, near Bonampak. It is next to the Lacanja River –with waterfalls, natural springs, places to swim, and the beautiful blue color of the river- and offers all the services for a very quiet and relaxed rest in the heart of Lacandona’s Jungle. There, you can book for the next day adventures like rafting, hikes in the forest, a tour of the Bonampak archeological area or relax in a temazcal with a Mayan ceremony. And the good food is in the hotels and restaurants, which offer local, Chiapas and Mexican dishes.

Palenque Emoción sobre el agua El rafting es en el río Lacanja, y lo opera una comunidad lacandona, pues es su forma de subsistir. El recorrido tiene tres cascadas, muchos saltos y dura alrededor de tres horas; es una actividad de mucha adrenalina, muy divertida y la puede hacer gente de todas las edades. Además, ¡la balsa pasa bajo una de las cascadas! El impresionante río es de color verde-agua, el agua es caliente, hay manantiales y en ciertos lugares es posible bajarse y nadar.
Thrill on the water Rafting is on the Lacanja River, and it is run by a Lacandon community, as it is a way for them to survive. The itinerary includes three waterfalls, many jumps, and lasts around three hours; it is an activity with a lot of adrenaline, much fun, and it can be done by people of all ages. Additionally, the raft goes under one of the waterfalls! The impressive river is aquamarine green, the water is warm, there are natural springs, and in some spots, it is possible to get off and swim.

The sweet touch
El toque dulce El acitrón, mejor conocido como biznaga, es un ingrediente que protagoniza platillos mexicanos muy famosos, como los chiles en nogada o la Rosca de Reyes. Se obtiene de un cactus que sólo existe en este país; es una planta que parece pelota con espinas y mide hasta 1.5 metros de alto. Crece un centímetro cada año y sus frutos están repletos de semillas que garantizan la reproducción de la especie. Aunque puede cultivarse en invernaderos, no sobrevive al traslado a campo porque las condiciones son más extremas que en un vivero. Para hacer el dulce, debe pelarse la biznaga, retirar las costillas donde están las espinas, sacar la pulpa y cocerla varias veces con azúcar para después comerla como la conocemos.

Candied citron, best known as biznaga, is an ingredient involved in very famous Mexican dishes such as Chiles en Nogada or Epiphany Cake Rosca de Reyes. It is obtained from a cactus that can only be found in this country; it is a plant that looks like a ball with spines, and it can grow up to 1.5-meter high. It grows one centimeter every year and its fruits are full of seeds that guarantee the specie’s reproduction. Although it can be grown in greenhouses, it doesn’t survive a transplant to the field, where the conditions are more extreme than in a greenhouse. In order to produce the sweet, the biznaga needs to be peeled, remove the back which holds the spines, extract the pulp, and heat it several times with sugar so it can be eaten the way we know it.

En el primer cuadro de Zapopan el ambiente tradicional recobra un nuevo impulso: recientemente remodelado, el Andador 20 de noviembre guarda sorpresas para sus visitantes, quienes pueden disfrutar del encanto de los lugares clásicos, así como de los sitios recién llegados. Para empezar, no hay que perderse la caminata por el corredor que va del monumento Los Arcos de Zapopan hacia La Basílica: en el trayecto, un techo multicolor de papalotes es la mejor vista para tomarse una selfie, mientras los olores de lo que se prepara en los locales se mezclan en el ambiente, hasta resultar irresistibles. En unas cuantas cuadras se concentran rincones especiales, para comenzar el día con un sabroso desayuno, para descansar un momento, tomar un café, una cerveza y hasta para cenar en forma. No te pierdas La Hostería del Ángel, que durante años ha sido el impulso gastronómico de la zona; también el Aggios Agelos, Carmen Cantina, Doña Gabina Escolástica, El Café San Pedro, La Flor de Córdoba o Amorcito mío. Desde hace unas semanas es posible apreciar en esculturas del artista Alejandro Velasco, en una galería urbana interactiva en la Plaza de las Américas-Juan Pablo II. Estas piezas de Mimí Mendoza Gallery permanecerán allí por unos meses: Analizando el viaje es un personaje sobre una maleta que planea viajar para iniciar una nueva vida; Hera, representa a la diosa griega; Daphne, es una ninfa hija de Zeus, que se convierte en laurel; y Canoa ave fénix se basa en la mitología griega, simboliza la fuerza, la inmortalidad, y el renacimiento físico y espiritual. Cada viernes y sábado, a las 9 de la noche, un show de luces ilumina el Centro Histórico. Es un trabajo de videomapping proyectado sobre la fachada de la Basílica de Zapopan y posee dos contenidos: uno es sobre la virgen de Zapopan y otro sobre la historia de la Villa Maicera y la de México, desde la época prehispánica hasta la Independencia.

These pieces from the Mimí Mendoza Gallery will be there for a few months: Analyzing the trip is a character on a suitcase who plans on traveling to start a new life; Hera represents the Greek goddess; Daphne is a Ninfa, daughter of Zeus, who transforms herself into laurel; and Fenix bird canoe is based on Greek mythology, symbolizing strength, immortality, physical and spiritual rebirth. Every night, a light show illuminates the Historic District. It is a video-mapping work projected on the façade of the Basilica of Zapopan and possesses two contents: one on the Virgin of Zapopan, and another one on the history of Villa Maicera and Mexico, from pre-Hispanic times to the Independence.

Miguel Ángel Fong belongs to the third generation of a family committed to the capital of Jalisco: they have grown with the city and have helped the city to grow. “My grandfather arrived from China and got married in Guadalajara, and in the family we were taught to work with a spirit of service”, he shares. Between the contributions he has made through different positions, stands out the ones as General Director of Expo Guadalajara, today he is President of the Association of Hotels of Jalisco, and he is the current President of Atlas Clubs for the 20172021 period; so he has a high responsibility “since it is a healthy institution, well-positioned within the city’s community, a leader in sport events of national importance such as the great Atlas Half Marathon, in which participate athletes from other cities, or the
most important amateur golf event in Mexico, where participants experience what a professional golfer lives”, he points out. Atlas Clubs is a living entity, that evolves, and Fong has imposed to himself the challenge of “attracting and keeping young families and children getting trained in amateur sports; we need to look for service of excellence frameworks in order to keep them with us and generate the family oriented and interpersonal coexistence that prevails in the club”, he points out, adding that trust is key to get off the ground any life of work plan or project: “With the recent changes on the international scene and the arrival of new governments, there was anxiety about what could happen in Mexico, in Jalisco, in Guadalajara… In the end nothing happened, because our society is very participative, so we need to work together to achieve the best results”.

Starting 2018 Every year we have the chance to start very close from scratch. The ideal thing to do is to clean everything we can out of our past trash, such as debts, past loves, bad habits, toxic relationships, etc., and start over again.

If every year the same happens to you and you end up without accomplishing any resolution, I have some news for you: your resolutions are unreachable. Setting big dreams doesn’t mean you can’t achieve them, but you need too many things that, because they are many and difficult, become very unreal.
Empezando el 2018 Cada año tenemos chance de empezar lo más cercano a cero. Lo ideal es limpiar lo que podamos nuestra basura pasada y comenzar con saldo blanco, como deudas, amores pasados, malos hábitos, relaciones tóxicas, etc. Si cada año te sucede lo mismo y terminas sin cumplir ningún propósito, te tengo una noticia: tus propósitos no son alcanzables. Poner sueños grandes no significa que no los puedas cumplir, pero necesitas demasiadas cosas que, como son muchas y difíciles, se vuelven muy irreales. Te aconsejo hacer exclusivamente propósitos que puedas cumplir y, fuera que sean cumplir la meta final, sean objetivos, actitudes y hábitos que en conjunto te ayuden a cumplir el gran sueño a largo plazo. Recuerda que los sueños grandes se cumplen siempre y cuando creemos que podemos cumplir los pequeños. Así que comienza con cosas pequeñas, aunque parezcan insignificantes o sin tanto esfuerzo, pero que sí vas a cumplir. Crea disciplina y hábitos, eso va a fortalecerte lo suficiente para que en unos años todo valga la pena.

I suggest having exclusively resolutions you can accomplish and making them achieve the final goal, being objective, having attitudes and habits that together help you accomplishing the big dream on the long term. Remember that big dreams are accomplished only when we believe we can achieve the small ones. So start with small things even if they seem insignificant or effortless, but that you are going to achieve. Create discipline and habits, this will make you stronger enough so that after a few years everything will be worth it.

Esta producción de clase mundial involucra al Gobierno Municipal, artistas visuales, performes, administradores y busca sumar a un mayor número patrocinadores para hacerlo simultáneamente en otras zonas de Jalisco.
