As the holiday season approaches, it’s easy to get swept up in the rush of daily lifeendless emails, tight deadlines, and the constant pull of tasks demanding our attention. But this year, I’m making a conscious effort to pause and recharge. After taking a week at Gwinganna last week to reset, I’ve realised that while this is a time to relax, as Agents it’s also a time to stay connected and proactive in the world around us.

Christmas isn't just about the festivities, it’s about taking a step back from the whirlwind and recharging in a meaningful way. As we enjoy the slower pace of this time of year, it’s also a chance to keep working towards the things that matter most, whether it's personal goals or the property aspirations we've set. Heather sat down with Hady Olt, the very talented, amazing owner of 16 Ida Way.

Together they disucessed Hady's vision when creating her spectacular, architectural, masterpiece on Omaha beachfront and lessons learnt that she'll take with her for her next project on Waiheke Island.

• Hady what made you decide you wanted to be in Omaha?

At the time it was going to be my main home, and I was going to stay in the city 2-3 days per week to run my business. I chose Omaha for the close proximity to Auckland, the most beautiful beach and the friends I have here in Omaha.

• What was your inspiration for 16 Ida Way?

Well it was a project that certainly grew along the way - I wanted something cool and international and when I started working with my fabulous architect Chris Tate the ideas flowed and we were in synch and had so much fun working together

• Have you had many fabulous parties on that roof top?

Not enough as I have just not been in NZ as much as I thought, as I sold my business about the time the house was finished and Italy kept calling

• How does the house work when you have guests?

My guests say they feel like they are staying in a 5 star resort, having their own spaces and ensuites, and they love the pool, cabana and especially the roof top bar. Having the master on another level means we are not tripping over each other.

• What made you do the round pool and are you pleased with it - would you do a round one again?

The round pool is actually a water tank, with steps retrofitted, and I absolutely love it. It heats quickly to 38 degrees in winter for relaxing soaks, and with the lounging seats it's easy to lose hours in there in summer with it at tepid. And yes, I would do a round again, site dependent.

• What are the things you love most about the property ?

The roof top bar feels like Ibiza, the spiral staircase is a winner, love the white marble bench tops and the steel kitchen from IMO, and soaking in the outdoor bath on the master balcony.

• What are your plans when you sell Omaha ?

I've just finished a little project on Waiheke, but am also looking at a home in Italy for a European base.

• Will you do another build from scratch?

Absolutely, can't wait to do another, and loved working with Chris Tate so that's an easy choice.

• What would you say to an incoming buyer looking to buy your gorgeous property?

Change the pin code on the gate as I may just not be able to resist coming back! Seriously, it's the perfect house for entertaining, but also just living in seaside luxe.

BERRY TRIFLE

Indulge in the perfect Christmas dessert with the Edmonds Berry Trifle recipe; layers of fresh berries, creamy custard, and light sponge cake come together for a delightful treat that's as beautiful as it is delicious.

Ingredients

• 1 box Edmonds Classic Golden Butter Cake (340g) + ingredients required to make cake (butter, eggs, milk)

• ½ cup sherry (125ml) (optional)1/2 cup raspberry jam (160g)

• 600ml cream

• ⅓ cup icing sugar (50g)

• 1 tsp vanilla extract

• 1kg Meadow Fresh Vanilla Custard

• 250g fresh strawberries, hulled and halved

• 125g fresh blueberries

• 125g fresh raspberries

Method

Bake cake according to instructions on the box, making just two small changes - use a 20cm square tin rather than a round tin and reduce cooking time to 40 minutes (or until askewer inserted into the centre of the cake comes out clean). Allow to cool completely.

Cut cake in half horizontally. Brush each half with sherry, if using, then spread with jam. Slice cake into small squares (2-3cm).

Combine cream, icing sugar and vanilla in a large bowl and whip to medium peaks.

Place half of the cake pieces in a large trifle bowl. Top with half of the custard. Add half the berries, then spoon half of the cream over the top. Repeat to use up all of the ingredients.

Refrigerate until required.
