Introducing the New Board President: Kelly Yang Hey Key-ooties! My name is Kelly Yang and it is my honor to serve you as your 2018-2019 Key Club President. I joined Key Club in my freshman year although it may sound like it was a long time ago, I still remember entering the crowded auditorium during the first meeting. I was quite intimidated by my surroundings, but that meeting was the start of my Key Club journey. Along the way, I have met all of my closest friends that I currently have. After all, I did not expect Key Club to have such a drastic impact on my life. Ever since I became a Key Clubber, I began to spend my weekends more efficiently by serving others in need. One of the most memorable event that I attended as a Key Clubber was Japan Day because we received complimentary Japanese cuisine such as bento boxes and gyoza. There were also Japanese cultural activities like dressing up in Kimono and face painting! To be honest, there were so many memories that I am unable to recall all of them in this short introduction. This year I am aiming to create unforgettable memories with all of you! If you ever need any support, feel free to hit me up with a text and you can always simply approach me in the halls if you just want to say “hi”. I would love to meet every one of my lovely Key Clubbers.

Vice President: Amanda Santiago Hello, I’m Amanda Santiago, your 2018-2019 Vice President. I want to make Key Club a welcoming place, for anyone and everyone to join. It’s a place to make friends, who become close enough to you that you call them “family”. Key Club has helped me find my “family”, and I want it to be the same for others <3

I will also be working and communicating with the other board members making sure we have the most efficient outcomes for this club! Now I would say that I’m pretty reserved but if any of you have questions or concerns with anything feel free to ask me and approach me anytime. I enjoy all sorts of music, writing, playing piano, eating of course and having random conversations about anything. I also like to sleep :) anyways I would like to get to know you all better so come to the events and meetings and say hi, I’m down to talk about anything, I might get distracted and talk abt other things but it’s all good, don’t be afraid, I’m very friendly, I don’t bite.. ok sometimes I do but you know :) hope to see some new faces! Don’t worry you can count on us, it’s going to be a gr8 year!! Wooooooo!

Co-Secretary: Doan Huynh

Heyyy guysss!! Name is Doan Huynh and it's pronounced "dawn hwin". I promise my name pronunciation is the only thing difficult about me LOL. I'm a very friendly person who loves to get to know new people. I can be funny and interesting at times, but I can also be serious and hardworking. I like singing, playing the guitar, and honestly everything else non-school related haha. Key club is my greatest passion and you'll come to see that I devote a lot of time and effort in fulfilling my secretary duties, such as updating/keeping track of your key club service hours. I am also in Division 8's public relations/event planning committee, so I'll be sure to come up with new fundraising ideas that will keep everyone interested and involved!! I would love it if you guys would approach and meet me! I'm always down to talk and get lit ;)

Treasurer: Sandra Cao Hey! My name is Sandra Cao and I’m part of your ‘18-’19 board as treasurer. I’m a diligent worker and optimistic. Although I am constantly contended and comical, I am also responsible, competent and efficient. I would like to increase our budget and, not only that, create interesting fundraisers and events. Now to expand upon myself, I want to express who I truly am to each and every one of you in key club. I can be exceptionally intriguing individual and the more you become acquainted with me, the more things might get crazy; however, that is not the end of our enterprise together. Additionally, I also enjoy playing the piano and watching k-drama. I hope to see you at Bayside’s future fundraisers and events! Saranghae~ <3

Editor: Hana Ho Hello, my name is Hana, and I am your 2018 to 2019 Key Club bulletin editor. My interests include volleyball, music, traveling, and photography. I joined Key Club to provide service to our community, develop leadership, and gain experience. One of my favorite experiences was probably Japan Day, which I heard about through Key Club. There were so many different activities and people, and I would not have been able to experience it without being in Key Club. As the editor, it is my responsibility to make flyers and newsletters. In other words, I will be keeping all members updated and reminded of important dates and events taking place. I look forward to working with all of you as your bulletin editor.

Webmistress: Natalie Yu Haii Key Clubbers! I'm Natalie Yu, and I'm your new webmistress ("webmistress" IS a word!). I'm currently a freshman, and let's just say, high school is quite a ride, but joining Key Club changed my life. I'm very tiny and small, but I can be very energetic and dangerous at times, just don't get on my bad side and we'll be chill :-). Also, I enjoy doing things from sleeping and eating to jumping up and down with other key clubbers in a tight area to lit songs.I like to be loud most of the time for no reason, and I'm just a very clumsy person. I enjoy listening to a lot of K-Pop. I promise I won't disappoint as your webmistress of 2018-2019: I'll constantly update the website and all the social medias of Key Club. Your new board will work harder than ever to make sure you have the best year in Key Club, ever! Don't be afraid to say hi whenever you see me because I'd like to believe I'm a genuinely kind person, but my friends might say otherwise. And, creds to my secretary Doan <3, I love Yu all!

Vision Walk On April 14, my friends and I volunteered and participated in the Vision Walk. Despite the hot weather, the six hours I spent that day were memorable and totally worth it. During the event, I interacted with other volunteers, and cheered on the participants. The passion and smiles on their faces made a lasting impression in my memory. It surprised me when they cheered us on too. Due to the event, I realized that that day wasn’t just a simple walk, but it’s about sharing kindness and support with others. We were all strangers, but we viewed one another as people who cared about a common cause. I would definitely go to another event like the Vision Walk in the future to meet even more people and new friends. Lastly, my takeaway is that “We don’t make keys, we make a difference”. -Angela Zhang, member

Gardening at Fort Totten The Fort Totten event consisted of a long morning of gardening in preparation for Earth Day, but the overall experience was quite pleasant. During the event, other key clubbers and I worked together to clean up the appearance of the Fort Totten Castle. We raked the dead leaves, plucked the weeds and swept it all into a bag. My favorite part of this event was the aspect of teamwork involved. All our individual assignments were all contributed to one common goal. Afterwards, we put down our rakes and shears and talked over snacks before taking a group photo to commemorate our hard effort. -Alice Qu, member

6th Annual Walk for Kid’s Growth

The 6th Annual Walk for Kid’s Growth started as a warm, foggy day. As the day progressed, the temperature rose and the amount of people increased. We helped set up the carnival games, cotton candy and popcorn machines, donation centers and posters. Soon after, a guest speaker and founder of Kid’s Growth gave a speech, and we walked a three mile path around Flushing Meadows Park with spirit. At the finish line, the walkers and guests were welcomed with pizza, drinks and chips. The area was filled with people and music that could be heard from afar. A clown gave out balloon animals and singers and dance groups performed at the event. Lastly, there were raffles for prizes for those who donated to the cause. The event ended on a bright and sunny note. -Rachael Tien, member

March of Dimes March of Dimes is a United States nonprofit organization that works to improve the health of mothers and babies by preventing birth defects and premature birth. On March 29th, I went to my 3rd March of Dimes walk, and it was one of the best walk I’ve been to. I got the chance to meet and walk with amazing key club members from Bronx Science key club. It was surprising to think that it was a 3 mile walk, because it was short, fun and for a good cause. You get to meet new people from other divisions and create a special bond with them. It was a very special event because I got to spend some more time with my members, take pictures, dance and even eat with them. Overall, the walk was amazing and I hope that you guys will go next year. -Junie Kim, member
