Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament
Novena to the Sacred Heart of Jesus
(For June, the Month dedicated to the Sacred Heart)
O my Jesus who didst say: “Indeed I say to you, ask and it shall be given you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you.” Here I am, knocking, seeking, and asking the grace.... (mention your request)
Our Father.... Hail Mary.... Glory be….
Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place all my trust in Thee.
Prayer: O Sacred Heart of Jesus, for whom only one thing is impossible and that is not to feel compassion for the wretched, have pity on us, miserable sinners, and grant us the grace which we ask Thee through the Immaculate Heart of She who is Thy tender Mother and also ours. Amen.
Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament with Benediction
Mondays 3:00 - 5:00 PM in the Church
Hail Holy Queen
Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee do we cry, poor banished children of Eve. To thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in this valley of tears. Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward us, and after this our exile show unto us the blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
O clement, O loving,
O sweet Virgin Mary. Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thine intercession was left unaided. Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen Saint Joseph, foster father of Jesus, pray for us.
J Stewards of God’s Gifts
In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us that “the harvest is abundant but the laborers are few.”
Living Stewardship ~ Pillar of Service: We are called to be laborers for the Lord. This week, find a way to be at service for God and fellow man: perhaps donate to the Catholic Ministries Appeal or food pantry or volunteer to mow the lawn for an elderly neighbor or take them food shopping.

THIS IS MY BODY
by Frank De Lucia
My first article on March 12, 2023 explained the Catholic dogma of the Real Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, the transformation from ordinary unleavened bread and wine during the consecration into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of our Lord. In the March 19th and April 16th Bulletins, I shared three occasions where God saw fit, miraculously, to remove the veil of the appearance of the bread and wine and reveal to the faithful that the Eucharist is truly His Body and Blood. However, some may wonder why God chose consuming the Body and Blood of His Son as the way in which we can share in His eternal life. After all, even the first century Romans considered this practice tantamount to cannibalism.
The story begins between 1,500 and 1,200 years before Christ, when it is estimated that the first five books of the Bible (the Pentateuch) were written. In the great drama of Genesis, God asked Abraham to sacrifice his only son Isaac as a burnt offering. In a foreshadowing of Jesus’ Passion, Isaac hauled the sacrificial wood up to Mount Moriah, and asked his father where was the lamb they were to offer up to God. Abraham answered, “God will provide the sheep for the burnt offering.” As Abraham bound his son to the wood to be sacrificed, an angel stopped Abraham from bringing down the knife (Genesis 22:1-19). Here was the first prophesy that God the Father would allow His only son, the Paschal Lamb, to freely substitute Himself on the wood of the cross for our salvation. This sacrifice is made present again on the altar at each Mass.
The drama continues in the Book of Exodus. As Dr. Scott Hahn puts it in chapter 2 of his book The Lamb’s Supper, “…the pivotal sacrifice in
Israel’s history was the Passover… [when] God instructed each Israelite family to take an unblemished lamb without broken bones, kill it, and sprinkle its blood on the doorpost. That night, the Israelites were to eat the lamb. If they did, their firstborn would be spared. If they didn’t, their firstborn would die in the night… (see Exodus 12:1-23). The sacrificial lamb died as a ransom, in place of the firstborn of the household. The Passover, then, was an act of redemption, a ‘buying back.’” Here again, we see a foreshadowing of the sinless (unblemished) offering, which must be consumed for us to have eternal life. As Jesus told us, “Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day.” (John 6:54)
Fast forward to the time of John the Baptist. As he was baptizing his followers in Bethany, across the river Jordan, John “…saw Jesus coming toward him and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world…’” (John 1:29). To the ears of a first century Jew, the phrase Lamb of God was easily recognizable as a reference to the Passover Lamb in Exodus, and it was at this time during which John the Baptist foresaw of the Passion of Our Lord. As the Catechism of the Catholic Church states, John the Baptist “… reveals that Jesus is at the same time the Suffering Servant who silently allows himself to be led to the slaughter and who bears the sin of the multitudes, and also the Paschal Lamb, the symbol of Israel’s redemption at the first Passover. Christ’s whole life expresses his mission: ‘to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (CCC 608).
Three years later, Jesus celebrated the Passover Seder with His disciples one last time, concerning which apologist Karlo Broussard, in chapter 23 of his book Meeting the Protestant Challenge, states, “For the ancient
Jews, the Passover meal wasn’t merely a theoretical or abstract remembrance of God’s past-saving deeds. They viewed themselves as participants in the events the meal recalled because they viewed those events being mysteriously made present in their liturgical commemoration.”
During the Last Supper, Jesus used the haunting phrase “…This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.” (Luke 22:19). This phrase was not lost on His disciples. They knew that Jesus was somehow making Himself a new Passover Lamb. In this new covenant, which replaces God’s covenant with Abraham, Jesus directed His disciples, and their successors, to remember (make present) His sacrifice from that moment on. And in that sacrifice, the Gospels harken back to the Passover feast; “But when they came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they did not break his legs…For this happened so that the scripture passage might be fulfilled: ‘Not a bone of it will be broken.’” (John 19:33-36).
When the bread and wine are consecrated during Mass by the priest, remember that Jesus Christ, the unblemished Lamb of God, is present at that time, and gives us His actual Body and Blood to consume, so that “Believers who respond to God’s word and become members of Christ’s Body, become intimately united with him” in the “…Eucharist, by which ‘really sharing in the body of the Lord, . . . we are taken up into communion with him and with one another.’” (CCC 790). Blessed be God forever!

The Rosary Society’s Statue of Our Lady of Fatima
In 2017, the centennial anniversary of the apparition of our Lady at Fatima, St. Mary’s Rosary Society received the gift of a beautiful statue of Our Lady of Fatima. This statue is a traveling statue, and came to us with the requirement that its presence be shared throughout our parish. The statue of Our Lady has been “visiting” with Rosarians and St. Mary’s friends and families in their homes since that time. For those whom Mary has visited, she has brought peace, hope, comfort, strength and renewed faith.
Would You Like a Special Visit with the Statue? As the Rosary Society continues this ministry, please let us know if you would like a special visit with the statue of Our Lady of Fatima in your home. For more information please contact Rosarian Mary Lou de Venoge by Email at: doggonelab@msn.com

IHM Center at St. Peter’s Profits from books sold at our gift shop will go to our St. Vincent de Paul Conference
About Emily Hanlon:
Having converted late in life after watching the joy that faith brought to her husband and three sons, she, like her sleuths in the Martha and Marya mysteries, now goes to daily Mass, is a eucharistic minister, and is active in the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Through her books, Emily shares her love of the church and of a good “whodunit.”
As the Adult Choir season closes on Father’s Day, the Parish of St. Mary extends wholehearted gratitude and blessings for the excellent music by which we have blessed during the past season. The parish choir weekly dedicates many hours in rehearsal and in service for weekly liturgies, holydays, and solemn feasts. They lift and inspire our hearts and our liturgies to great joy as well as sooth us with melodies of comfort and inspiration. Many parishes no longer have choirs, but we rejoice in that St. Mary’s has had a choir for over 50 years. Today we acknowledge them by name and pray their rewards be many for their unswerving service to the Lord Jesus, his Blessed Mother Mary, and the Parish of St. Mary. Sincerely, Robert C. Feeling Desperate? Call Upon God!
When I am afraid, I will trust in You. What time I am afraid, I will put my trust in thee. (Psalm 56:3)
There are times in life when you feel like life is going in ways that you could have never imagined. It could be unexpected health issues that turn your life upside down. Political issues, violence, war acts, unforeseen consequences, or confusion about economics can affect how you feel and live your life.
You can get to the point that you feel out of control no matter how you try to make sense of what is happening. Many times, there are no explanations that can soothe your confusion and pain. Psychology can help you understand your feelings and offer ways to deal with these difficult situations. A connection with God enables you to hold onto your faith experience and internal convictions to help you cope and hopefully survive and eventually thrive through whatever you are experiencing. Your connection with God offers you strength far beyond any earthly offerings.
In my mind, your “God connection,” gives your gut extra protection against the invasion that “too much stress” does to the body and mind. Your “God connection” offers you fortification that stays with you no matter what is happening. It gives you the ability to stand strong even though you think you should be falling apart. You might feel shaky, but even as you waver, you will be able to stand strong and not fall. You will prevail as the Holy Spirit fortifies you to hold on, pray, and plan for resolution. As you
know, the resolutions might not be what you wished for, but will enable you to recapture your life and move forward.
Experiencing the love of God sets you in a position to be able to manage no matter what comes your way. A common expression used when life is so overwhelming and full of negative competing emotions is “You can’t make this up.” Yes, there are so many situations that we experience that this statement is a way of describing our sense of helplessness and also offers some relief.
The love of God can rescue you from helplessness as you attach to the idea that there is a bigger purpose no matter what happens in this earthly life. Your purpose is salvation and eternal life that you earn here on earth through your thoughts and actions accompanied by your love of God. You model your behaviors by following HIS example and your connection with HIM. Experiencing God and HIS love in a more meaningful way is to live God’s Word that infuses us with His love, giving us strength to move forward and take the next steps.
There is another statement commonly used: “God gives you what you can handle.” Many times throughout my life, I have said, “Please give me a break, I can’t or do not want to handle more.”
In working with your relationship with God, you are fortified with love that enables you to stay centered no matter how tough life gets. The Dear Lord is always there, even during the middle of the night when the world is asleep, and you can’t. Take this opportunity to pray and ask for guidance. Most times when people do this, you can then fall asleep, find refuge in God’s love, and
put aside whatever is bothering you. Deal with your issues during daytime hours. A simple statement I say and tell my patients to say, “Nighttime is for sleeping, daytime is for dealing.” The Holy Spirit will guide you.
Take refuge in God and you are never alone. You are accompanied with strength and love. Below is a prayer that can become part of your daily routine in connecting with God’s love.
Remember: Connecting with God’s love means internal strength and connection!
Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers, grandads, and male father figures who nurture others.
I hope you have a good summer where you can relax a bit. See you in September.
My dear God, give me the strength to handle whatever comes my way. As your student, I will try to react to troubled times in my life with the love you have for me that enables me to stay centered and calm no matter what storm appears. Let your example set me on a path of strength and conviction that will enable me to deal with whatever I need to do and manage the outcomes with God at my side. I know that through prayer, I will be able to find peace in my actions and thoughts as well as salvation in your loving embrace.

“Every family needs a father -- a father who shares in his family's joy and pain, hands down wisdom to his children and offers them firm guidance and love,”
- Pope Francis
Every day, people in our community are helped because of support from funds raised through the Catholic Ministries Appeal.
Today, consider a dad like Paul. Paul saw information about the Catholic Ministries Appeal at his local parish, and he knew he had to turn to the Church for help since he had nowhere else to go. Paul had been gainfully employed for more than 10 years when he began to fall ill. Soon his medical issues made it impossible for him to keep working and he was forced to go out on disability.
After paying the co-pays on his medications, his family's rent and utilities bills, Paul had very little left to purchase food and other necessities for his family.
It was hard for him to ask for help, but with nowhere else to turn, he did. Catholic Charities found him a specialist who assessed the family's needs and directed them to appropriate resources in their community. He went to his Parish Outreach, where his family received food that allowed them to make it through the month. Paul and his family received the help they so desperately needed.
Today, Paul is back to work and the family is doing well. "I am so thankful that I know there is somewhere I can turn, where there are people that care, people I can talk to, if I am ever in such a situation again," shared Paul.

O Most Holy Trinity, Who deigned to raise Venerable Anthony Vincent Gallo to the priesthood, and endowed him with precious gifts, especially that of a burning love for suffering and immolation, we humbly beseech You, if it be Your will, that he may be glorified on earth, and that we may obtain through his intercession the particular grace which we ask for with living faith.
