BUTLER TOPS SANDALS MONTEGO BAY’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY MIXOLOGY COMPETITION Okeria McIntosh from the Butler Department at Sandals Montego Bay emerged the champion of the resort’s Welcome Cocktail Mixology Competition. His creation, “Sandals Sunset” was a hit with the audience as was his flair and showmanship during his presentation. The ingredients were coconut rum, vodka, pineapple juice, orange juice, splash of strawberry syrup Asked why this drink represents the resort, the champ noted “This drink represents Sandals because Sandals is all about love and this cocktail is filled with love and hand made with the passion of the bartender. The colours and flavours bring out the joy and happiness in guests as if they are enjoying the sunset while sipping on this cocktail.” So how did he feel about winning the competition? “It is a great feeling as even though I was confident in my abilities, with so many full-time top bartenders around I wasn’t expecting to win. It’s a great honour to have a drink I made used for Sandals’ 40th anniversary. I hope people enjoy drinking it as much as I

SANDALS GRANDE ST. LUCIAN: A PERSONAL SWIM CHALLENGE FOR CHAMPIONS She was not going quietly into the night. Having just challenged herself to 6.2 kilometres, she did it again. Except this time, Vanessa was going to double the hog – she decided to swim 14 kilometres, from Sandals Grande St Lucian Spa & Beach Resort, to Rat Island (a small island just off of Sandals Halcyon Beach) and back to Sandals Grande St Lucian Spa & Beach Resort. Vanessa Eugene is a trooper. She had everyone on tenterhooks, guests and team members alike, once she hit the water at 6:30am on her fateful swim day. Vanessa herself had no qualms. Prepared, collected and ready, she waited for the horn, and set to swim. By 8:50am, she had arrived at the furthest point, her desired destination, Rat Island. The swim back was tougher. By 1:15, the whistles and bells could be heard throughout the resort. There was one focus – get to the beach to welcome

The surrounding atmosphere made him feel at home and that is exactly what he wants his welcome drink to do to everyone as soon as they walk on to resort. To have this win under my belt, at a company like Sandals, the first thing that went through my mind was that my resume hot! When I heard my name being announced as the winner, I really thought it was a mistake at first. I feel like a top man but I remind myself to always stay humble and continue to learn from the greats. When I learnt of this competition I was very excited and started to do a lot of research. I wanted to get the colour, taste and quality of my cocktail perfect. SANDALS FOUNDATION VOLUNTEERS FROM SANDALS SOUTH COAST CLEAN UP OLD BAY FISHING BEACH The Old Bay Fishing beach in Whitehouse, Westmoreland now has a new look thanks to the efforts of Sandals Foundation volunteers from Sandals South Coast. The occasion was yet another International Coastal Cleanup activity, this time along Jamaica’s Southeast coast. Said to be the largest one day volunteer events in the world, every year on September 21, thousands of people gather for International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day to participate in activities geared at keeping our ocean’s clean and healthy. This year however, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic and its impact on group gatherings etc., the usual date and format of the popular volunteer event saw some changes. “Albeit smaller numbers, our Team was happy

Old Bay fishing beach.” She noted that among the items retrieved were plastic and glass bottles, card board boxes, fan pieces, sandbags and paint cans. “As a Sandals Foundation volunteer and also a citizen of the Whitehouse community, I felt very good participating in this activity because I know the area really needs efforts such as these and this was my way of giving back not only to my community but to the environment,” said Shonique Powell, from the accounts department at Sandals South Coast. Powell, whose first time it was participating in an International Coastal Cleanup activity, said she was very thankful for the opportunity it presented but also noted that this activity is an extension of the resort’s ongoing efforts to maintain a clean and healthy environment. “At least once a month our resort conducts similar beach and roadside cleanup activities.”
