Sun City Genealogy Society will hold our final in-person meeting on Monday, May 16, 1 PM, Catalina Vista. Please check the website for addition information about the meeting. Exciting news for all genealogists: The National Genealogical Society (NGS) will hold their annual conference in Sacramento, California, from May 24 - 28, 2022. There will be three methods to attend the conference: in-person, online at home and on demand at home. Check out the NGS website at www.ngsgenealogy.org for information about registering for this conference. More good news: the National Archives released the 1950 U.S. Census on April 1. The census is currently being indexed and will be available to club members on Ancestry and FamilySearch in the genealogy lab in the upcoming months. Check out where your family lived in 1950.

Our club provides a twice-a-month opportunity for discussions of challenging ideas using the anthologies published by the Great Books Foundation. The topics and genres vary widely, but the conversation is always thoughtful and lively. We meet twice a month, October through April, and will start a new volume, Great Conversations 3, in the fall. The Institute for Learning in Retirement (ILR) is returning to in-person classes for its fall term beginning in October. A long-time favorite, and co-founder of ILR, Gene Bammel is scheduled to teach “Philosophers Speak of God: From Plato to Whitehead.” ILR has the largest membership of all SCOV clubs and will celebrate its 20th anniversary in January 2023. Thanks to the creative leadership of the Bammels, the Myersons and so many more volunteers, ILR delivers an impressive array of adult learning opportunities here in Sun City. Our club benefits Emerge Center Against Domestic Abuse and IMPACT of Southern Arizona Food Bank. We do not meet during the summer, but you may go to the Emerge website (www.emergecenter.org) for information regarding in-kind and monetary donations. The club plans to host our Accessories Boutique this Fall at Catalina Vista on October 29. We will be asking for donations of gently used jewelry, purses, hats, shoes, fashion jackets and sweaters. Our monthly meetings resume September 13, 9 AM, WC3.
