Woodworking Pres. Gary Casner 303-880-4120 gcasner1@comcast.net VP Bill Norton 480-980-5493 Treas. Charlie Tomlinson 503-333-8887 charlie.tomlinson@gmail.com www.scovwoodworkingclub.com

Woodworkers fully vaccinated for Covid-19 may now work in the shop without a mask. All woodworkers must provide their own eye protection. Victor has been an SCOV resident for over 14 years and an active woodworker for the past four years. Thanks to help from the Wood Shop pros, he immediately fell in love with wood turning. This mesquite flower pot came from a tree cut down by a neighbor. The clock is a collaboration with Karin, his wife. You’ll usually find him having fun working on one of the shop lathes. A new member orientation is held at the Wood Shop the first Wednesday of each month at 4 PM. Call Bill Norton for further instructions. Club dues are $20 annually. Current hours are Monday-Friday, 9 AM-4 PM. If you have questions or need more information, please visit the website or call an officer.

Continuing Education Astronomy Pres. Allan Mashburn 435-219-0042 scovastronomy@gmail.com Oct.-May, Catalina Vista, date and time varied due to Activity Center remodel, check website www.scovastronomy.weebly.com

The Astronomy Club will return to live meetings this fall. The first meeting is Saturday, October 16, 7-9 PM, at Catalina Vista due to the scheduled renovations to the Activity Center. Future meeting dates will be posted in the Tipster. The Astronomy Club has a new website at https://scovastronomy.weebly.com for club information including future meeting dates. Check out this astrological event on Tuesday, July 13, 7:51 PM: Venus and Mars will come together in the western sky, 15 degrees above the horizon and appear to kiss in the night sky (very fitting, considering that in Roman and Greek mythology, Venus and Mars–or Aphrodite and Ares in Greek–were known to be lovers). This only lasts about 1½ hours before they set below the horizon.

Pres. Glenda Tonkin 925-640-7312 gt99673@gmail.com Club Communications: Lynn Kallgren lynn.kallgren@gmail.com First Mon., 1:30 PM, Catalina Vista/Mt. Lemmon

Dear fellow book lovers: I hope you’re all enjoying the warm weather and finding great books to read. During our long hiatus, the club leadership has become involved in other projects and no longer has the time or, in some cases, energy to devote to running the book club. This is a plea for volunteers to step forward and lead the club. If you’d like to volunteer, please email Glenda Tonkin at gt99673@gmail. com. I look forward to hearing from you. Stay well and keep reading.

Genealogy Pres. Holly Gibson 303-548-1299 ghgibson@live.com General meetings Oct.-May, Mon., 1 PM www.scvgs.org

Looking for a cool option to the heat of summer? Join the Genealogy Club and spend a few hours a week researching those illusive ancestors at the Genealogy Library located in the Welcome Center. We now have Macs and PCs with the most popular subscription-based websites to assist you with your research. If you are a member, start working on a new branch of your family. If you are new to genealogy, contact Holly Gibson to set up a time to check out the lab and become a new member. Consult the club website for days and hours that the library is available. Help is available for beginners and experienced researchers. The Genealogy Club will be meeting again starting in October on Mondays to accommodate the remodeling scheduled in the Activity Center. Check the club calendar and mark your calendars for the new schedule.
