Poets Corner Sharyn Rafieyan 520-331-1092 srafieyan@comcast.net Mon., 10:30 AM-12:30 PM, WC1

“In this world of pain, even half a rainbow, even one cherry blossom.” Writing and reading poetry helps us define and process reality by allowing us to examine what we see, think, feel and imagine. The brevity and seeming simplicity of this haiku by Deborah A. Bennett encompasses the current status of our world with one sufficient descriptor: “pain.” It then offers the means to abate that pain with the hopeful symbol of even “half a rainbow” and the living beauty of “one cherry blossom.” Printed as part of a series called “Five Haiku in Spring,” this selection seems to celebrate a welcome reversal of the Covid closures that began last March and the gradual return of what this season used to mean. Experience the panacea that poetry can be. Newcomers are always welcome at the “Corner.”

wood with any digital needs that can be provided in the lab. Monthly general club meeting options are being considered for online and in-person attendance. Topics like how to age in place using electronics, accessing the medical industry from home, electronics for your motor home and exciting virtual tours may be discussed, if our members express interest. Annual club membership is still only $10 per household. Visit the website for PayPal or debit/credit card options.

Cultural & Social Democratic Club Richard Kopp 520-342-6633 richardkopp@mac.com Next meeting, Sat., Sep. 11, 1 PM, Zoom

Dining - Prepare & Share Pres. Debbie Kotlarek 262-899-5810 dlkotlarek@gmail.com VP Sandra Fisher 208-860-3431 sandrafisher2703@gmail.com www.scovprepareandshare.weebly.com

Given that so many people in SCOV have been fully vaccinated, we are optimistic that we will likely be able to resume our in-home dinners in the fall. The board will be communicating with membership about the conditions under which members would feel comfortable hosting. As our name implies, our members usually prepare meals that follow an agreed-upon theme and share our dishes in the home of a host. The board is considering a club activity in September and possibly earlier. Anyone interested in joining the club should email Debbie dlkotlarek@gmail.com to get on our email list.

Dog Club - Fido’s Friends Membership Chairs: Peggy Perkins 650-279-0347 peggyandpups@comcast.net or Carol Tombre 208-961-1133 mctombre@yahoo.com Membership meetings and lectures will resume in the fall www.scovff.weebly.com

On May 14 we hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the opening of the new small dog addition and expanded large dog section of the K-9 Korral. This was originally envisioned by Dr. Bill Abel back in 2005. In 2018, Ron Brown and Allan Keller volunteered to research and propose upgrades to the dog park. They visited other local dog parks, surveyed Fido’s Friends members, researched costs and prepared presentations. In 20192020 Kari Durfur and Chic Garner (co-presidents) presented the Bob Abel (Fido’s Friends founder) findings to the SCOV board. After and Chic Garner (Fido’s Friends president) several board presentations and discussions, and with the lobbying by Ronna Heinig (even though she is a cat person), the expansion project was approved.
