SPH PLUIT VILLAGE
TRUE KNOWLEDGE | FAITH IN CHRIST | GODLY CHARACTER
Message From The Head of School Dear Parents, It has been wonderful to have students back on campus. The energy boost this has provided our teachers cannot be underestimated. We continue to open up grade by grade to allow safe and healthy protocols to be established across the school. I am proud of how responsibly our on-site students have conducted themselves in following the new expectations - a reflection of good training and practices at home, I’m sure. Please continue to keep an eye out for information from the school about when your child’s grade will be returning.
I trust your conference time meeting with teachers was profitable. We really do desire to partner with you in the education of your child. Please remember you can always make another time to meet with a teacher if you have further questions or concerns so we can plan together how to best meet the learning needs of your child. Last week, I was able to join a number of teachers as panelists for the Grade 7 Endangered Species presentations. What polished and accomplished middle school students we have in our school! Students not only researched about their chosen animal, but also presented a plan on how they could be saved from extinction. Congratulations to the winning groups and a great job by Ms Hannah and Ms Lydia in preparing their students so well.
This week is Book Week. Each year SPH PV spends an entire week focusing on reading which is such a fundamentally important skill for all people of all ages. We want to celebrate books and the important role they play in our lives. We want to encourage our students to read for enjoyment. Being a highly skilled reader also positively impacts learning in so many ways! I look forward to seeing everyone at the Book Week Assembly dressed as their favourite book character on Friday (yes, I will be dressed up too!).
Mr. Tim Heading Head of School
Happy Reading! 1

HYBRID LEARNING
Hybrid Learning has begun for select grades and initially a small number of students. On October 15, 2021, SPH Pluit Village welcomed back grade 9 and 1 students to participate in the first hybrid learning program. For the past 18 months, classes and hallways have been empty and quiet. It has been a good start to Hybrid Learning with these students. It was wonderful and fun to see teachers giddy with excitement at the return of students to school after so long!
The following week, Grade 10 and 2 students joined the hybrid learning. We have carefully arranged their schedule so that they will be in the safest environment possible, while still being able to enjoy the hybrid learning experience. During that day, we also welcomed K2 students back at school to experience a one-day pre-hybrid learning to get the feel of it before officially getting back on campus next Monday. Visit Instagram

HYBRID LEARNING
Moving Forward We gradually add grade levels each week, beginning with limited numbers of students in each grade. In-school learning remains optional for all SPH PV families. We are aware that everyone will need to take some time to adjust to the new mode of learning. However, moving forward, we will continue to review our teaching routines and practices to make sure we provide quality learning opportunities for all students in both online and offline learning. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT The 13th Nakamura Keith Haring Collection International Children’s Drawing Contest
3 SPH PV Students become Winners in Renowned International Children's Art Competition in Japan
Congratulations to 3 of our students for winning the 13th Nakamura Keith Haring Collection International Children’s Drawing Contest!
Three of our students entered their best artwork and came out as winners in the competition; they are Edward Franklin (Gr.10), Darlene Faith Hope (Gr. 7), and Andrea Jane Caja (Gr. 3). Their artworks are more than just drawings. Each of them portrays stories about our society, the world, and the future. We hope that our students will continue to flourish, influence, and engage with the world around them.
The International Children’s Drawing Contest has brought students from all over the world to submit their best works each year. This year, the competition chose "From Now On" as the theme and the contest received 1,708 entries from all over the world, resulting in 27 winners.

SS Virtual Retreat Truth Seeker (Crime Investigation: Jesus' Death) Sept 29th - Oct 1st, 2021
At the end of Term 1, SPH PV's Senior School students and teachers spent three days together at the SS Virtual Retreat. With a theme that followed SPH's theme of the year: "Truth Seekers", our retreat focused on Jesus' death and resurrection. Like great truth seekers, we investigated and asked the following questions: Who is Jesus? What is the historical evidence of his existence, was he the Messiah? How do we know he rose from the dead? Who dunnit? Who is responsible for his death? The Pharisees? The Jews? His disciples? Who are we? Where do we fit in the story? What now? Now that we are pardoned from the court room, what do we do now?
Our guest speakers, Mr. Andrew Ellis and Ms. Tirza, helped us to find the answers to these questions. We were encouraged to discuss and research our facts with the Bible and historical evidence. It was a fruitful and memorable retreat for both students and teachers! Ms. Stephanie Tarigan MSS Teacher

Online Book Week It's our Book Celebration Week!
Thursday was a great day to have new faces in a classroom and be able to hear great stories from guest readers that they wanted to share with students. On the final day of our book week, we will celebrate our classes and students will share their final video of book week. Everyone will dress up as any character from a book and present themselves during a whole school assembly on Friday.
Students have been actively engaged in celebrating books through various activities this entire week. First day on Monday started with Book Week introduction through an introductory video by the committee, followed by 'Exploring Writing' on the next day where students came up with a story that they wrote and were able to share with their class. On the third day, teachers & students dressed up in their pajamas for the whole day! Then students shared their awesome ideas and stories that they wrote on Tuesday to their whole class.
Join the assembly tomorrow at 10 AM!
