“THE DISCOVERY OF ITALIAN WINES” WORKSHOP 26 Apr 2021, Gilmour Room The Wine Circle presented another enjoyable in-person educational tasting workshop of ten-award winning wines. It was an honour to have Mr. Roderic Proniewski, with his impressive credentials, to be the presenter for the evening. Mr. Proniewski has the WSET Certification (with distinction) and is an educator at the prestigious Ecole du Vin de Bordeaux. He is a Senior Judge at IWC London & and an Overseas Guest Judge at Michelangelo South Africa. He introduced eight white grape varietals (Fiano, Garganega, Moscato, Pinot Bianco, Vermentino, Verdicchio, Trebbiano and Pinot Grigio) & 12 red ones (Aglianico, Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Corvina, Merlot, Sangiovese, Rondinella, Nero D’Avola, Nebbiolo, Montepulciano, and Corvinone) from across 20 wine regions in Italy. It was a full house and an extremely interactive evening with the Members’ numerous queries being answered by Mr. Proniewski. With each wine, he also highlighted the vegetarian, vegan & non-vegetarian cuisines across different regions that can be paired with them. The workshop was conducted under the COVID-19 guidelines, and the cozy tables of five facilitated interesting conversations and an opportunity for its participants to bond over wine. The post-workshop feedback was very encouraging and has fueled the Wine Circle Committee to continue to plan and deliver more such events in the following months. The latest Australian wine tasting, which was a virtual event, had the largest number of participants and its review will be presented in the next Padang issue.
