SCC Used Clothes Donation Drive 2 October 2021

The Team, elated (and exhausted) over our hard work and success as a group.

As an international school student who has been actively involved in service, the gratitude that comes with giving back never grows old. Over the course of my tenure as a member of the Singapore Cricket Club community, I’ve been privileged to participate in various service opportunities, via the SCC community outreach program. The prep for this event started weeks before. I remember waking up one morning, and staring at my reflection in the mirror, only to find that I had grown an inch taller. My growth spurt left me with a closet full of clothes that didn’t fit, and no clue what to do with them. Luckily for me, earlier that week I heard from my parents that SCC was organizing a clothes donation drive, so I decided to make use of the spare clothes and contribute them to a good cause. I spent the next few days reaching out to my friends and family, seeking their contribution towards this cause.

Most importantly, this experience was a perpetual reminder of how easy it is to make a positive difference, through means as simple as donating a few spare clothes when you hit a growth spurt. With this in mind, I encourage fellow teenagers to leap at service opportunities whenever they pop up. Go Team SCC! (Written by Siddh Narayan Sharma, Grade 10 student of Canadian International School, Singapore)

“Thank you for your help, young man,” was the first thing I heard as I walked into the Club, boxes full of clothes in-hand. After being directed to the squash court foyer, and depositing my boxes at the foot of a gargantuan pile of clothes, I was introduced to Ms. Cassie Wong, the Head of Events, Sponsorship and Member Relations at SCC, who assigned me a post as one of the “heavy-lifters.” As volunteers piled in, our team truly began to take shape, as we gathered, distributed, and organized hundreds of boxes like a welloiled machine. Though the lifting was tough, we worked together as a unit, motivating each other and staying driven to the task at hand. We bonded over our shared passion for giving back to the community and exchanged witty anecdotes about our past experiences volunteering at the Club. Aside from a great workout, I walked away from this experience with new friends, and a deeper appreciation for the joy of giving. NOV / DEC 2021 THE PADANG
