PRESIDENT ’S MESSAGE
Dear Members, We would like to thank the Members for your support of all the Resolutions at the recently concluded SGM. With regards to the Resolution for the application for an InPrinciple Approval for the renewal of the lease for the Club building and the Padang field, once this is in place, it will open up more opportunities to engage with the SLA on matters pertaining to the lease renewal. We shall endeavour to keep the Members informed of key developments in the lease renewal process. You would have received my message relating to the closure of the Fruit Machine Operations in the Jackpot Room effective 1st December, 2021. It was not an easy message to write as the Fruit Machines have been so much a part of the Club. Even as late as 2018, the Jackpot Room was a hive of activity with its own little community of regular users enjoying the banter and companionship of like-minded Members. Over the years, a large number of Members, and I am firmly included, would wonder in for a quick flutter on the Fruit Machines as we walked past the Jackpot Room towards other areas of the Club or on the way to the carpark. However, in recent years, the community of users has been dwindling and it is now time to look at new opportunities and create new communities of Members who will find additional touch-points to continue coming to the Club. The GC welcomes Members to submit proposals for the alternative use(s) of the Jackpot Room. If you have a particular proposal for the Jackpot Room, do email your suggestions to the General Manager (sean.boyle@scc.org.sg). We are fast approaching the end of what has been another year affected by the many curbs on gatherings, dining, sports and other activities as we continue with our collective struggles to contain and hopefully in the very near future get on top of COVID-19. The annual POT Games versus the Tanglin Club, due to be held on 20 November, is the latest event to be cancelled; though we hope it is just postponed. Let us also hope we can swiftly return to our signature sports tournaments, be able to once again celebrate our community festivals, enjoy the band in the Main Lounge on Saturday evenings and mostly be able to return to playing sports and be able to congregate in larger numbers. The Club has continued to organise a host of events – some onsite and others virtual – for both adults and kids; some, such as the wildly-popular Pantomine, have limited capacity so do register for the events early to enjoy the early-bird rates and to also ensure you have been able to reserve your place. I am thankful for our Members’ patience as we constantly adjusted to the changing safe distancing measures from the government
over the past months. With the extension of the Stabilisation Phase as announced by the Multi-Ministry Taskforce (MTI) until 20 November 2021, 2-vaccinated pax restrictions on dine-in will continue and significantly impact on Members’ utilisation of the Club’s F&B outlets. In light of the above restrictions, we have rolled over the Minimum Spend Levy for the affected months into the next quarter and extended Birthday Vouchers valid for the months of October and November to December 2021. I take this opportunity to remind fellow members that their Minimum Spend Levy can be offset against not only dine-in, but also Takeaway & Delivery services for food, wines and spirits – including our Festive Roasts, Cakes, Pastries, Party Platters, Bottle Shop and Hampers. Our F&B Department has laid out a massive festive spread for you, both for your dining pleasure at the Club as well as at home. An enticing list of celebratory bottle prices has also been curated for you, while our popular hampers are back for you to gift family, friends and associates. Do peruse the SCC Festive Booklet 2021 supplement for full information on all the dining, events, and takeaway options for your enjoyment. The Club continues to be a hive of (safe) activity and we are glad that membership enquires are still pouring in. In the spirit of the season, only from now until 31 December 2021, we are offering festive F&B credit bonus rewards for the SCC Membership Referral Program - both members and their newly introduced Members can enjoy F&B credit incentives for successful membership application sign-ups during these two months; more information is available on the inside front cover. Thank you for your continued support of the Singapore Cricket Club. Your votes for all our proposed Resolutions during our recent Special General Meeting on 30 October 2021 are an endorsement of all that we have worked for and achieved this year and intend to do in the coming months to guide the Club in these uncertain times. As we endeavour to look with positive anticipation towards the future, may this festive season be filled with joy and may the new year be one of good health, success and happiness for you and your loved ones. I look forward to seeing you at the Club.
