A 133-DAY SCC SINGLES! After two suspensions due to the heightened alert, we finally completed the SCC Singles in mid-August. The men’s semi-finals matches saw Edmund see off Alan 21-17, and Christian tipping his National Pairs partner 21-19 in a titanic tussle. Reigning champion Edmund faced Christian in a rain-interrupted final. Christian raced to a 6-1 lead before lightning forced the players off the green. The momentum shifted after the restart as Edmund came roaring back to level the scores. The tie remained closed with Edmund leading for the first time at 19-18, but a loose end saw Christian claim three to take home the McKean Cup for the first time. In the plate final, Damian saw off Bryan 21-15 after some spirited bowling from both players. The ladies final saw pitted Amira against Shermeen after they accounted for Lisa and Ming Li respectively in the semi-finals. Shermeen got off to a great start with a 10-1 lead after five ends but Amira was not ready to throw in the towel just yet as she battled back to claim the WA Rose Bowl 21-13.
NATIONAL PAIRS 2021 It was a glorious day for our SCC men as four out of our five quarter-finalists swept their way into the semi-finals. The biggest upset of the day was undoubtly Bob and Atiff’s win over current
holders Anthony and Thomas. It was 13-all going into the last end with their opponents seemingly onto a successive semi-final after holding shot with a front toucher. But skip Bob Gattie had the last say with a wonder bowl to crack an egg and push the jack back to their own bowls to claim the match and a spot in the semi-final. Srini and Zoher were staring at a four down against Law and Kah Hock on the last end and a potential sudden death but Zoher’s last bowl turned all anxiety turn into elation as they claimed another one of the semi-final spots. Ganesh and Edmund made light work of John and Bob earlier while the all-SCC match saw Melvin and Christian beat Mike D and KC. Great work guys!
