Note From The Editors “Noting all of the Keys this Month”

Hello PHHS Key Clubbers!!!

We’ve passed the hundredth day of school! With less than eighty school days left, the school year is coming to a close. With that in mind, we look to the upcoming DCON trip which marks the end of the 20152016 service year and the installation of the 2016-2017 year. This means that the district and local clubs will have a change in leadership. We are proud of the candidates for that ran this year in our own club, and we hope that the newly elected board can maintain the status and commitment that the prior PHHS executive boards held!

Yours in Caring and Service,

Sharon Christian and Tara Srinivasan

Election Recap

The past month has been one of the busiest of this year, and yet it holds great significance for next year! On January 21st and 26nd, two important elections were held: The Division 20 Lieutenant Governor Election, and the PHHS Executive Board Elections, respectively. We are so proud to announce our very own Vanessa Ting as the new LTG for our division— we know she will do great things. We are also so excited to have elected the new board members! Holding an official position, no matter what level, is a huge responsibility, so let’s wish them all good luck for the coming year. It’s time to look ahead! See below and the next few pages for introductory statements from our new LTG and board members.

Introducing our new…

Division 20 Lieutenant Governor Vanessa Ting Vice President (2015-2016) Editor (2014-2015)

Hi everyone! My name is Vanessa, and I’m super excited to serve as your Lieutenant Governor. Although I won’t be directly a part of your Key Club Executive Board, as LTG I’ll be overseeing PHHS and the five other schools in our division. I hope to implement social media to bridge the gap between the LTG and general members, so be on the lookout this spring for a new Instagram to follow! Meet Your 2016-2017 Exec Board!

Thank you to all those who ran this year in our club elections. Here are the people who were elected to next year’s board! President Asha Patel

Corresponding Secretary (2015-2016) Hey Key Clubbers! It’s been an amazing experience this past year serving as secretary and I’m honored to become your 20162017 President! Key Club has inspired me in so many ways and been one of the best decisions I have made in my high school career. The feeling of being able to represent such a prestigious organization is truly rewarding and I have such high hopes for our club. I’m so excited to work with the new exec board and see all of you join us in the next service year!

Vice President Karoline Xiong Historian (2015-2016)

Hi everyone! My name is Karoline Xiong and I am very excited to serve as your 2016-2017 Key Club Vice President. From being on the board last year as historian and attending various Key Club events, I realized just how amazing this club truly is and the role it plays in our community. Witnessing the struggles and pain in the lives of the people around us, we don’t usually stop to realize just how fortunate we are to be where we are, have what we have, and do what we do. Through giving back to our communities, Key Clubbers are one step closer towards making the world a better place. I am proud to be a Key Clubber! Corresponding Secretary Crystal Tran Hi, everyone! My name is Crystal Tran and I've been elected as next year's corresponding secretary. I am very excited to become more involved with the wonderful organization that is Kiwanis, and to be able to work with the other members more closely. I am willing to help the other members with anything they need and perform presentable work for everyone. It's wonderful to have this opportunity because Key Club is such a wonderful group that does so much for the community. I can't wait for the rest of the year!

Recording Secretary Michael Tran Hello, it’s me, the newly elected Recording Secretary, Michael Tran. I’m a junior and it’s my first year on the Key Club executive board. Even though I’ve only been in the club for 2 short years, it’s something I’ve really come to love because of the wonderful things we do. I’m glad this club is something I stuck with. That being said, I look forward to serving Key Club and its members this year.

Treasurer Vishal Mansuria Treasurer (2015-2016)

Hello, I am the newly elected Treasurer, Vishal Mansuria. Let’s get pumped! We’re going to be going to DCON! The theme is James Bond, so let start off with a joke, What is James Bond's fav time of time of year? 'Bond' fire night! I can crack a joke here and there ;) but I’m also a very hard working individual who gets his work done while having fun. Key Club is not about just the hours, it’s about making a difference for the less fortunate. This is a community that loves to help people. Key Notes • February 2016 • Volume XLI Issue IX• Page 5

Editor Tara Srinivasan Editor (2015-2016)

Hi everyone! My name is Tara, and I am so excited to serve as the editor for our Key Club newsletter— again! Key Club has been such an inspiration for me these past few years, and nothing makes me happier than serving my club and community. Not only does being a member give me the chance to positively impact the lives of others, but being an editor allows me to share the joy of service through news on what this organization has been doing locally and districtwide. I can’t wait for this service year!

Editor Shreya Nair My name is Shreya Nair, and I'm the newly elected bulletin editor for Key Club. I love helping out in our community, and Key Club has given me a huge opportunity to do that. I'm excited to be working with the other board members to make this club the best that it can be this year. I've been in Key Club since freshmen year, and I'm excited to serve on the board for my last year of high school.

Historian Thomas Shweh Historian (2015-2016)

Hi, my name is Thomas, and I will be your historian for the 20162017 school year. I’m going to be totally honest: When I first joined Key Club, I only did it because I thought it would make me look better. However, after a few experiences, this club really changed the way I looked at community service. I felt a part of something; I wanted to give back to the community. That’s why I am so excited to be in office another year. I hope my final year in Key Club will be just as memorable as the past two years have been! Historian Juliana Urbis Hi, my name is Juliana Urbis, and I am the new Historian. This is pretty cool— being a part of such an inspiring club. One of my goals this year, I suppose, is to not accidentally cover the camera lens with my hand when I take pictures. That way, everyone can clearly see how fun and great Key Club is.

Key Club and Valentine’s Day In spirit of Valentine's Day, Key Clubbers decorated every locker in the school— of which there are over 1,600— with a personalized heart! Also, to show appreciation for teachers and other staff members for their hard work, Key Clubbers brought in candy to create goodie bags. To those who participated in this event, thank you for making it possible!
