Note From The Editors “Noting all of the Keys this Month”
Hello PHHS Key Clubbers!!!!
The 2014-2015 school year just flew by! Despite the fleeting academic year , the cordial and impactful contributions we made to the community were astounding. From RTC collections and the Yankee Candle Sale to the 69th annual DCON and the Senior Dinner Theater, it is hard to believe that our club did so much. Now, we can only go forward and make this club above and beyond. Under the new presidency of Patty Kou, a new service year awaits us with grander ways to help Parsippany. With the establishment of Ms. Mann as Co-Advisor (Yay!), Key Club will be more reinforced and better than ever! Just because it is the last month of the school year does not mean that Key Club has nothing going on! Major events such as ICON and Touch a Truck are a couple weeks away. Remember to keep in touch with your inner Key Club Spirit during the summer! Oh, and H.A.G.S! :D
Yours in Caring and Service,

President Kou’s Welcoming Remarks Hello returning and new Key Club Members! My name is Patricia Kou, but most people call me Patty, and I am your 2015-2016 PHHS Key Club President! I am extremely excited to be working with all of you and I have so many exciting things planned for this new service year! Like most scared freshmen, I was peer pressured into joining millions of clubs during Club Day. However, I can honestly say that joining Key Club has been the greatest decision of my entire high school career. Key Club allows me to give back to my community, a community that has been so generous as to provide me with various opportunities in order to ensure success. Key Club has allowed me to connect with likeminded individuals at DCON and other events to rally up similar emotions. More importantly, Key Club is like my home; it is where I truly feel like my own unique self. This upcoming service year is going to be an exciting one! I plan to do more fundraisers, get people
more involved in both our community and in our district, and I plan to not only increase membership, but keep the attendance at General meetings high as well. I hope you all are just as excited as I am for this new year! It will be an amazing one, and thank you all for allowing me to guide you into what I hope will be an unforgettable year! Relay For Life
Recap
On Saturday, June 6, the 15-hour Relay for Life event at the County College of Morris was held in support of those battling cancer, in support of those acting as caregivers for a loved one with cancer, in honor of those victorious in the fight, and in memory of those whose lives were lost. The unforgettable night featured various fun activities, as well as speeches and dedication laps. Among the celebrated was Mark Dunn, a regular fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society who had passed away last year. PHHS Key Clubbers teamed up with the Parsippany High School team and the Boy Scouts to help set up the Luminaria Ceremony, a Relay tradition. The illuminated paper bags were lined up along the track, each one dedicated to a loved one with cancer. It was a time for the community to come together and for people to support one another with care and hope for a cure. We are truly glad to have been a part of this festival! Relay for Life raised over $72,600 for the American Cancer Society to search for a cure, but the fight doesn’t stop there! Continue to donate and support the effort.

How to Maintain your Key Club Spirit Over the Summer
It’s easy to quickly forget your personal spirit of service due to summer vacation. To prevent losing that touch, here are a few tips on maintaining your Key Club Zen! Volunteer: Even though Key Club itself must take a break over the summer, community service never does! There is always a way to help. Seek out opportunities around the town to help out, so that when you return to Key Club in September, you’ll be able to ease right back into service! Put on your thinking cap: A great way to be more active in the club is to be a part of the service year process. If you have any ideas about new events we can hold, don’t be afraid to share it with the board! With a strong vision, lots of passion and commitment, and a sprinkle of help from the higher-ups, your dream can become a reality. Spread the word: If you love this club, don’t keep it all to yourself! Help raise awareness of Key Club in whatever way you can. Encourage the soon-to-be freshmen (who still probably think Key Club is about keys) to join next year. The more members, the more service! Prepare: To keep ahead of the game, roughly plan out your upcoming year. When Fall Rally comes along, will you be going? What’s your candle selling goal for the Yankee Candle Fundraiser? Prepare now to be ready later! Key Notes • June 2015 • Volume XLI Issue III • Page 7
