Note From The Editors “Noting all of the Keys this Month”

Hello PHHS Key Clubbers!

Congratulations Key Clubbers for overcoming the first two months of

school! Now that the cheers of triumph are over, the Key Club year is in full swing. The month of October was busy and productive. We collected tons of cans for what became a very successful Fall Rally on October 11, and continued to work tirelessly to prepare for Halloween at the Hills on October 29! Just as the clocks turned back an hour for Daylight Savings, we also took a step back and thought of the millions of hungry children in New Jersey during our can drive, and later on we entertained our Parsippany children during Halloween at the Hills. Everyone, give yourselves a pat on the back for all your hard work this month!

Yours in Caring and Service,

Sharon Christian and Tara Srinivasan

Fall Rally Recap

Sunday, October 11th marked an

exciting date in the NJ District Key Club calendar: Fall Rally! Hundreds of Key Clubbers from all over the state gathered together to listen, laugh, and learn with the District board, who were all dressed up as characters from the Dr. Seuss world (our LTG Priya was Gertrude McFuzz!) Also at the meeting was a representative from the New Jersey Federation of Food Banks, who is

also a Kiwanis member; she told us her inspiring story about being able to make a difference, and warmly welcomed Key Club on behalf of our district project to do so too. We are most proud of our own Parsippany Hills Key Club, who has already had a great start: Because of you guys, we were able to bring a grand approximate of 320 pounds of food to the can drive!

but this event would not have been as wondrous for the kids without the help of the PHHS Key Clubbers all throughout the month. To maintain the child friendly atmosphere this year, we decided to have the holidays of the year as the theme. However, since there are so many holidays to do and so much classroom space to decorate, club members spent the whole month donating their Thanksgiving, Christmas and St. Patrick’s Day decorations to the club. More than thirty Key Clubbers helped out in setting up the holiday posters, games and decor. Thanks for making this room a big hit! A collage of the Halloween at the Hills event will be available in the next issue!

P.S. We also collected UNICEF donation money while trick-or-treating on Halloween!

October brought two special

visitors to our general meeting on the 13th: Our LTG Priya Lad (far left) and our Kiwanis Club of Greater Parsippany advisor and friend Davey Willans (left). Both offered their wisdom on all things Kiwanian, Priya discussing upcoming events like her Spike Our Hunger volleyball tournament and Mr. Willans explaining his role of facilitating communication between our club and his (which also helps to support us financially!) We are honored to have such friends and resources by our side!

On October 20th, a very special

package arrived: Key Club New Member materials! A welcome gift straight from Key Club International up above, new members received items including Key Club pins, beautiful member handbooks, and identification cards. We hope you are just as glad to have joined this club as we are glad to have you, and hope that you will learn to fully recognize its importance as you take part in serving this coming year!
