Leder
Editor Asle B. Strønen trusts everyone find this year’s winner of the Ship of the Year award a worthy victor.
Ship of the Year 2016 proclaimed It is a great pleasure to introduce you all to the spectacular and magnificent vessel the jury has elected Ship of the Year 2016. We trust this magazine will provide you with necessary information about the vessels capabilities and the owner’s strategies when ordering this ground breaking new design. This year's Ship of the Year is truly innovative, with efficient diesel propulsion for long distance transfer and electric propulsion for quiet and pollution-free sightseeing in the beautiful UNESCO-listed Norwegian fjords. The design of the vessel itself, a catamaran with a carbon-fibre hull and the modern passenger facilities adds to the overall feeling that this is something completely new. The vessel has been ordered by the company The Fjords AS, and the jury is impressed that this company, which in turn is owned by the transport provider Fjord 1 AS and the tourist-destination Flåm AS, have taken it upon themselves to order such a fascinating vessel. We are sure that they have set the way for also other "green" solutions. As the CEO of the company, Mr. Rolf Sandvik, says: “Vision of The Fjords supersedes everything else on these iconic Norwegian waterways". Further, he expresses “We offer a unique passenger experience, as they become ‘at one’ with the nature that surrounds them, but it
also encapsulates our own vision for the future of tourism here. We are accessing and displaying some of the world’s most beautiful, yet vulnerable, natural areas. It is our objective to do this in a responsible, sustainable and respectful manner”. The routes that the vessel will ply are within some of Norway's most beautiful fjords, namely Nærøyfjorden, Lysefjorden and Geirangerfjorden. There is a need for protection of these fjords, but there is no available shore-power and it seems electric propulsion is the only solution. Brødrene Aa AS. Builder and designer of Ship of the Year 2016 is Brødrene Aa AS, a world leader in construction of carbon fibre vessels (braa.no). The jury electing Ship of the Year acknowledges The Fjords’ quest for innovative solutions to operational challenges. The jury also notes that the vessel marks the start of a journey rather than a conclusion, as they aim to replace its existing fleet with vessels that utilize the latest green technology in order to enhance en-
vironmental standards and customer experience. With strong financial backing of its owners, "this strategy is a clear objective rather than a dream", Mr. Sandvik explains. The jury has great respect for the initiatives resulting in the building of the progressive vessel “Vision of The Fjords”. abs Venue: The Ship of the Year 2016 ceremony will take place in Hall B7, The Norwegian Pavilion, at SMM Hamburg on Wednesday September 7th at 1300 hours. Jury: The readers of the leading Nordic shipping magazine SKIPSREVYEN nominate the nominees for the Ship of the Year awards. The jury consists of Mr. Sturla Henriksen, CEO of the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association; Mr. Lars Gørvell-Dahll, Director, Maritime Sector of the Federation of Norwegian Industries; and Mr. Asle B. Strønen, Editor of SKIPSREVYEN.

tal footprint. The exterior is inspired by a twisting mountain road and gives the passengers freedom to walk around the ship while enjoying the scenery. Inside, the vessel has passenger accommodations on two decks, featuring large panoramic windows, seating in a variety of configurations and a large refreshment kiosk on the main deck. Paradis Nautica AS is a ship design and engineering company owned by Brødrene Aa and involved in the process by developing hull lines etc. Brødrene Aa AS, a world leader in the construction of carbon fibre fast ferries, won the contract for the vessel in 2015 after presenting it’s strikingly innovative design to The Fjords, Fjord1 and Flåm AS. Contract date was June 25th 2015 with keel laid September 3rd. The hull was launched May 7th 2016 and she was delivered to her owners July 16th 2016. M/V “Vision of The Fjords” transport tourists from all over the world along the spectacular fjord between Flåm
and Gudvangen on the Western Coast of Norway, using its battery power to silently cruise between the precipitous mountainsides at the leisurely pace of 8 knots. The vessel will complete around 700 voyages a year, running in all seasons, including winter, when the area is at it quietest yet arguably most spellbinding. Class notations. The vessel is classed to DNV GL +1A1, LC, Passenger Battery(Power), R5(nor) with IAPP (Air Pollution Prevention Certificate), AFS-C (Anti-Fouling System Certificate) and OPP-A-IC (International Oil Pollution Prevention Certificate, Type A). IMO No. 9784192. Signal letters LDXJ. A truly unique vessel. Built from carbon fibre, with a 399-passenger capacity, the vessel has been designed with lines that resemble a twisting mountain path, complementing the scenery of the UNESCO World Heritage Listed Nærøyfjord it will voyage along. Passengers can literally climb the vessel as they watch the 1800m mountains rise from the water, or
Ship of the Year enjoy the outside from inside thanks to sweeping panoramic lounges and windows. Inspired by a trail finding its way up a steep mountain side, “Vision of The Fjords” gives you the ability to move all over the exterior on trails surrounding the passenger lounge. It is designed to give passengers the ability to truly experience the surrounding landscape, featuring panorama lounges, large outdoor space and silent environmental friendly electrical drive. Best seen from the sea. Spectacular nature is best seen from sea. On board “Vision of The Fjords” you get the front row view to the landscape through three large panorama lounges. The design invites nature inside. The experience is stronger when being an active participant rather than a passive spectator. On “Vision of The Fjords” you will have the freedom to walk all over the boat, breath the fresh air and feel the elements. Silence of nature should not be disturbed by the rumbling noise of diesel engines. M/V “Vision of The Fjords” is designed for fully electric or hybrid power solutions to make the ride silent and comfortable. It’s dual fuel solution allows it to run diesel
engines up to the entrance of the protected Nærøyfjord, where it then switches to silent running, emission free electric power. In addition, the vessel features a special hull designed to minimise wake and thus reduce impact erosion on the area’s vulnerable shoreline. With these factors in mind, The Fjords CEO Rolf Sandvik explains, “Vision of The Fjords” was the perfect name: - Vision of The Fjords supersedes everything else on these iconic Norwegian waterways, he says. - The name obviously relates to the unique passenger experience, as they become ‘at one’ with the nature that surrounds them, but it also encapsulates our own vision for the future of tourism here. We are accessing and showcasing some of the world’s most beautiful, yet vulnerable, natural areas. It’s our objective to do this in a responsible, sustainable and respectful manner.” Mr. Sandvik continues: - Many of the tourist boats in this area, including some of our own, are 50 to 60 years old. As operators, we are drawn here by the pristine environment and then proceed to poison it. It’s our vision to demonstrate that there is another way

future. We’re fortunate to be owned by Fjord1 and Flåm AS, two progressive organisations who are committed to world-class transport and tourism offers. They share our ambitions for responsible, environmentally friendly vessels that put passengers at the heart of the voyage experience. - With their backing we’ll be looking to expand our fleet with more vessels like the “Vision of The Fjords”. We take the environment we operate in very seriously and will work to safeguard it with ships that utilise the latest technology to deliver the optimum in green performance. These new builds will eventually replace our existing vessels, allowing us to minimise our emissions while maximising the experience of a growing number of visitors to this incredible natural landscape.
Propulsion Powered by Norwegian compant MANCRAFT’s newest parallel hybrid system, M/V “Vision of The Fjords” represents a pioneer hybrid system that exceeds market standard concerning flexibility, noise, fuel efficiency, exhaust emissions and vibration control. It is the first marine parallel hybrid of its kind due to new arrangement, composition and advanced monitoring. The system consists of two lines of MAN D2862LE422 (749 kW / 2100 rpm) diesel engines, coupling/clutch combination, electric motor and generator combination with flexible connectors on each side, advanced torque measuring equipment and monitoring for each operation modus. The diesel engine and the electric motor can together or independently run the propellers, ensuring system redundancy. The system is explained in detail in a separate article.
“It is our objective to showcase some of the world’s most beautiful, yet vulnerable, natural areas in a responsible and sustainable manner,” CEO of The Fjords, Mr. Rolf Sandvik, says.
ZEM AS, a Norwegian battery systems specialist, has delivered the 576 kWh battery solution. Two parallel systems of each 288 kWh have been placed in the two catamaran hulls. The installation is described more detailed in a separate article. M/V “Vision of The Fjords” also features ABB’s acclaimed Onboard DC Grid system, managing and controlling the power between it’s diesel engine, propeller and charging station. The installed very compact version is a modular DC based system platform tailored to the needs of the next generation of marine propulsion systems. Variable frequency converters are widely used in modern marine power systems, often representing upwards of 80% of the installed load. Recent developments in DC protection methods has enabled ABB to re-arrange the way these loads are connected to

the main system. This new approach distributes power on DC in order to streamline system topology and simplify integration of energy sources like variable speed shaft generators and energy storage. In this way Onboard DC Grid meets the needs of the next generation of vessels more efficiently by distributing power on DC instead of AC voltage. In this project there are two main sources of power, Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Variable Speed shaft generator enabled for bi-directional PTI/PTO operation. Voltage from the permanent magnet AC shaft generators is rectified (AC to DC converter) immediately at the terminals of the generator and from there the power is transmitted to consumers on a DC bus. The BESS is connected directly to the same DC bus.

Inverters (DC to AC converter) are used to convert the power to: * variable frequency AC voltage for thrusters and other variable speed applications onboard * fixed frequency AC voltage in the case of normal AC consumers connected to a scaled down AC distribution. Complementing the power system is an integrated and harmonized control and communication infrastructure that facilitates a transparent and near-instant transmission of information between system components. This ensures a holistic approach to the task of coaching the best performance, be it for safety or efficiency, out of the DC Grid. Mr. Tor Øyvin Aa is CEO of the building yard Brødrene Aa AS.
Considering the special design of the hull and high focus on weight, one of the main drivers for this particular project was weight and footprint.
About The Fjords: The Fjords DA is dedicated to moving it’s passengers. A completely new design: The shape of M/V “Vision of The Seas” is inspired by a twisting mountain road where the idea is to give passengers the freedom to walk around
the ship while enjoying the scenery. - Because the ramps are at different levels, you get unobstructed "front row viewing space" for all 400 passengers, Torstein Aa, designer at Brødrene Aa AS, explains. - The incline of the ramps are low, which makes it easily accessible also for passengers using wheelchairs. On the inside, the vessel has passenger accommodations on two decks, featuring large panoramic windows, seating in variety of configurations and a large coffee shop on the main deck. - The interior design is made to create a calming atmosphere, Torstein Aa says. - Natural colors and materials creates a link to nature, and by using relatively dark tones you get all the focus on the view, inviting the nature inside. braa.no

The ‘green’ credentials of the vessel, and her future sister ships, also allows the company to position itself as the eco-friendly choice for visitors. This will be of key importance to environmentally conscious, premium customers interested in Norway’s natural wonders. Alongside potential newbuilds, The Fjords is actively on the lookout for technology that can be retro fitted into existing vessels to improve environmental performance and customer experience. This investment in advanced, green and user-focused solutions will further strengthen the firm’s market positioning. With the financial backing of its owners, the company may look to transfer its formula of providing environmentally responsible premium passenger experiences to other, less commercially developed fjord areas in Norway (such as the north). Expansion overseas would also be considered, taking The Fjords into fresh markets and targeting new potential customers. The ‘green’ credentials of the vessel allows The Fjords to position itself as the eco-friendly choice for visitors.

MANCRAFT New Hybrid Propulsion System Powered by MANCRAFTs newest parallel hybrid system, M/V “Vision of The Fjords” represents a pioneer hybrid system that exceeds market standard concerning flexibility, noise, fuel efficiency, exhaust emissions and vibration control, Mr. Øyvind Alvern, CEO of MANCRAFT AS, says. The diesel engine and the electric motor can together or independently run the propellers, ensuring system redundancy. The MAN D2862LE422 Common Rail Injection 3rd generation engine is tuned to operate in the low exhaust emissions area. The diesel engine has excess power at high speed, and therefore it can deliver excess energy to the generator batteries in the upper speed range. The electric motor is a permanent magnet synchronous motor that will act as generator or electric motor depending on operation conditions. The accumulated energy in the batteries can be utilized as the only power source, as the engine can be shut down at any time. This enables silent movement when sightseeing and in harbours as well as in normal drive conditions. The batteries alone can power the boat for up to three hours, and can be charged at port if possible. The electric motor is water cooled and very quiet-running.

for propulsion, Mr. Alvern continues. - “Vision of the Fjords” is a parallel hybrid because it can run on each form of energy independently. It is the first marine parallel hybrid of its kind due to new arrangement, composition and advanced monitoring. The system consists of two lines of MAN D2862LE422 (749 kW / 2100 rpm) diesel engine, coupling/clutch combination, electric motor and generator combination with flexible connectors on each side, advanced torque measuring equipment and monitoring for each operation modus.
The el-motor has integrated shaft grounding system and isolation. Flexible links (CENTA) on each side eliminate torsion stress on the generator and vibration on board, increasing passenger comfort level. Located after the electric motor is a torque gauge. This rotating torque measuring flange works with strain gage bridges. The torque measuring signal and energy are transmitted contact-free and inductively based on Sensortelemetrie. - This unique technology allows for advanced monitoring of power from the diesel engine and the electric motor, for example the amount of power that can be regenerated when slowing down, Mr. Øyvind Alvern explain. - The user can easily observe which power setting or combination is appropriate. The measurement accuracy is astonishing 0.2%. The torque gauge measuring system and the hybrid propulsion system are tested and approved in good cooperation

Ship of the Year A proud day: CEO of Brødrene Aa, Mr. Tor Øyvin Aa, witnessing the launch of yard No. 283, M/V “Vision of The Fjords”.
Brødrene Aa – a history of innovations The company was founded in 1947, and the company name remindss to the two brothers Olav Aa (1920-2006) and Bertel Aa (1919-2009). The shipyard Brødrene Aa AS, situated in Hyen on the west coast of Norway has built a comprehensive range of vessels over the past 60
years. In the 1940s and 1950s the yard made leisure crafts in mahogany. Gradually larger passenger ferries were built in wood. In the mid 1970s

the company switched to composite materials building the first ever GRPSandwich vessel approved by DNV.
Ship of the Year In the 1980s Brødrene Aa AS pioneered the appliance of air cushion technology on passenger vessels, producing Surface Effect Ships (SES) for the international market. These vessels operated with speeds of nearly 50 knots. In the early 1990s Brødrene Aa made high-end luxury mega yachts, but throughout the nineties the yard came to focus on other composite products such as train-fuselages and subsea protective covers. By exploiting composite production expertise, Brødrene Aa re-entered the fast-ferry business in the early 2000s with the world’s first commercial passenger vessel made in carbon fibre. This technologybreakthrough has led to a new era of shipbuilding for Brødrene Aa AS. The yard in Hyen is modern and well suited for manufacturing of composite products. It has a total of 3000 square meters of indoor facilities, fully moisture- and temperature controlled. - We are fortunate to maintain a stable and skilled workforce at our yard in Hyen, covering all disciplines required to deliver complete turnkey

lar special-purpose container LNG PowerPac®, developed for power supply to container ships. Both of these product developments can give significant reductions in emissions such as NOX, SOX and CO2. Clean power solutions are also presented by MTU, a manufacturer which belongs to Rolls-Royce Power Systems. This year, the company will present an LNG marine engine for the first time. The 16-cylinder variant covers a power range from 1,500 to 2,000 kilowatts. “We are convinced that LNG engines will become more and more important to complement the proven diesel engines in shipping,” says Dr Ulrich Dohle, Chairman of the Board of Rolls-Royce Power Systems. The first series-manufactured LNG engines are to be delivered from 2018 onwards. An exclusive first will be presented in advance at SMM. Rolls-Royce will also exhibit new propulsion systems for commercial, offshore and public service vessels, and for private yachts. RWO, a part of the Veolia Group from France, one of the world’s leading maritime water processing systems, will present the CleanSewage Bio biological maritime waste water treatment system, which is particularly space saving, low-maintenance and easy to operate. RWO also presents its SRO-COM desalination system, featuring high energy efficiency thanks to a new type of membrane. Another highlight of the RWO stand will be the OWS-COM oily water separation system, the world’s lead-
The search for greater efficiency is one of the drivers of new inventions and further developments. That certainly applies to Raytheon Anschütz, the world’s leading supplier of navigation equipment. This subsidiary of US defence and electronics company Raytheon presents the Synapsis NX INS-architecture. It is based on modern network infrastructure, modular software and the new Small Marine Computer, which serves as the standard for all workstations and bridge applications. The special features here are new applications and operating concepts, and better integration on the bridge. Siemens has a logistics concept based on a modular container solution to accelerate maintenance work in dock. A standard seafreight container is individually fitted for the repair and maintenance requirements. This mobile ship service workshop includes standard and special-purpose tools, and also airconditioning and heating equipment and special lighting systems so that service engineers are equipped for every work environment on site. The effect is impressive – cutting maintenance time by up to 15% and substantially reducing risk during maintenance work. Siemens presents this container at SMM in the outside space in front of Hall B6.
Safety and navigation High-ranking representatives of navies and coastguards are expected to attend SMM, as usual. They make presentations in the exhibition halls on the latest developments for more security at sea. The German Armed Force (Bundeswehr) for example have announced three exhibits. The “airborne reconnaissance drone for close area imaging (ALADIN)” provides real-time airborne reconnaissance and surveillance with a range of about five kilometres. The specially developed stability calculation software for all ships and vessels of the German Navy will also be presented live. A special feature for combatting cyber risks will be presented by the classification society DNV GL – the Cyber Quick Check application helps to protect fleet software and ship

systems from potential attacks. The range of products includes further apps, e.g. for comparison of the individual energy efficiency of ships with global fleets, or for information on LNG in shipping. The Fraunhofer Transport Alliance provides its combined know-how at SMM again with a joint stand run by seven of its organisations. The researchers present an autonomous navigation system including modules for bad-weather navigation and collision avoidance, and a Crew Compliance Optimizer, which simplifies the complex administrative operations for putting together the crew and work schedules. The industry needs to re-invent itself, said Martin Stopford, a prominent shipping expert, at the recent advanced press conference for SMM. Exhibitors at world’s leading maritime trade fair will show that they take a leading role in doing that. Their innovations are making shipping fit for the future.
About SMM SMM, the world’s leading maritime trade fair, is held in Hamburg every two years. More than 2,150 exhibitors and some 50,000 visitors will be there from 6 to 9 September 2016. SMM covers the whole of the value chain of the maritime industries, bringing together the decision makers from all parts of the world, as a platform for innovation. www.smmhamburg.com Forts. neste side

World's first ballast water port solution
The InvaSave technology has completed shipboard testing onboard the “Henrike Schepers”. During the shipboard tests, ballast water was taken in untreated and the efficiency of the technology was validated upon discharge.
InvaSave: IMO type approval is expected to be obtained 2016 and a patent is pending.
These tests have shown that the InvaSave is capable of providing an IMO type approved backup in a port in the event of a failure in a vessel’s on board treatment systems to uptake or discharge ballast water. InvaSave can even serve as a port-based alternative for those ship owners that may not want to retrofit an on board treatment system or be deployed in a port with a sudden outbreak of marine pests. It is
Damen Green Solutions that recently launched the system. Groningen Seaports is the first port to provide this ballast water treatment service. “Our location on the Wadden Sea means that we have a responsibility to push forward the progress of sustainable shipping,” comments Groningen Seaports Sustainability Coordinator Bart van der Kolk. “We are fully prepared for the ratification of the IMO
Ballast Water Management Convention. This project wouldn’t have been possible without the effort of some frontrunners like Royal Wagenborg, Van Gansewinkel, Imares, MEA-nl and Damen.” The innovative solution is likely to appeal to other ports as well as ship owners, operating close to sensitive locations such as World Heritage Sites and Particularly Sensitive Sea Areas. The results of the InvaSave test meet the D2-Standard of the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention on all aspects. This includes the test series conducted with the high sediment waters of the River Hull and the River Thames, UK. An overall and important principle is that the system is robust, and works under all relevant circumstances, regardless of the composition of the ballast water. Test protocols are in line with IMO BWMC test guidelines and additional requirements of the Dutch flag state. All testing was conducted by MEA-nl.

Is the water-lubricated propeller shaft arrangement more efficient than podded propulsion? asks Thordon Bearings
Thordon Bearings has called on the marine industry to investigate the characteristics of both conventional seawater-lubricated propeller shaft systems and podded propulsion arrangements in order to provide shipowners with a better understanding of the two very different propulsion configurations. In a recently published White Paper, the Canadian manufacturer of the COMPAC seawater-lubricated propelProsjekt5_Layout 1 31.03.16 10:45 Side 1 ler shaft bearing system believes there is a great opportunity for independent comparative data so that cruiseship operators, in particular,
can make more informed procurement decisions. Highlighting the development of both systems, the 24 page paper asks if the water-lubricated propeller shaft is more efficient than podded propulsion, encouraging readers to assess a number of different factors before selecting their optimum propulsion solution. The paper explores the key advantages and disadvantages of both arrangements, arguing the case for the conventional propeller shaft configuration due to its lower capital expen-

While acknowledging that greater research is needed, Thordon Bearings’ argument for convention is supported by several high-profile marine engineers with first-hand experience of both concepts, one of whom said he was “never able to ascertain with any certainty that the capital and through life costs of a podded propulsion system were any less than those for conventional drive arrangements”. Other supporters of convention claim in the paper that a conventional passenger ship with a rounded skeg hull shape, twin six-blade fixed pitch propeller and a seawater lubricated shaft line, with appendages optimised using computational fluid dynamics, is comparable to a podded cruiseship in terms of hydrodynamic efficiency. “While our paper does not purport to be an academic study in any way, it is intended to engender debate and, hopefully, spur greater research into the key attributes of both propulsion arrangements” said Craig Carter, Director of Marketing and Customer Service, Thordon Bearings. “Much of the research to date has focused on the manoeuvrability and hydrodynamic efficiency benefits of a cruiseship with podded propulsion, but this does not paint the complete picture. Owners have to also consider environmental, operational, safety, CAPEX and OPEX differences between podded and direct-drive configurations so that the cruiseship sector in particular can make more informed procurement decisions.”

Reveals 80/20 split in favour of pay as you sail ENCs E-navigation specialist NAVTOR believes that hydrographic authorities yet to allow the use of ‘pay as you sail’ (PAYS) ENCs in their national waters are lagging behind clear industry demand.
Tor Svanes, CEO Navtor.
The firm, which launched the first ever type approved PAYS ENC service to the market in 2012, says that over 80% of its subscribers now use PAYS - a delivery method that supplies clear efficiency benefits to an industry that is now, more than ever, defined by cost control and the effective use of resources. Unlike traditional ENC subscription models, which are based on set areas and time scales, NAVTOR’s PAYS only levies charges for the charts navigators actually use during voyages, while allowing them to instantly access any chart for planning. This distribution method is now widely accepted by the industry, and most authorities, but has yet to SKIPSREVYEN 6 / 2016
34
be approved by key bodies controlling some of the world’s busiest shipping lanes. - Shipowners and operators are increasingly migrating to PAYS, comments NAVTOR CEO Tor Svanes. - It’s a flexible, user-friendly and very cost effective way to navigate, with simple ordering and management of the ENCs that vessels and global fleets actually use. Furthermore, it’s transparent – with users and managers seeing exactly what they are paying for – and the fact that all charts (including licences and permits) are instantly available, and easy to update, online means no lengthy preordering process, or unnecessary wastage associated with un-used
charts. In a tight market, it’s yet another way to keep track of operational expenditure and cut down on paperwork and man-hours. Svanes says that while more than 80% of NAVTOR’s customers have now selected PAYS, some key authorities have been slow to react. He explains: - We see no compelling reason why some hydrographic authorities have yet to licence charts for PAYS use. It’s good to see that Indonesia has recently moved to accept the model, but there remain a number of principle players that we think should re-address their stance to serve the market they serve, control and support. We, and the industry, would like to see this change in the very near future. Svanes makes the comments at a time when NAVTOR is celebrating its fifth anniversary in the marketplace. In that time, the firm has established itself as a global leader in e-navigation, releasing innovative products and services that streamline and simplify tasks for navigators, while enhancing safety, security and efficiency for shipowners and operators. - We’re incredibly proud of what’s been achieved since we opened our doors in Egersund, Norway, in 2011, he concludes. “With an established network of offices that stretches from Europe to Asia, and agents worldwide, we’re dedicated to helping customers everywhere realise the enormous potential and benefits of e-navigation. - It’s been a wonderful journey so far and we’re looking forward to where our innovation, and the industry’s growing appreciation of digital navigation technology, can take us in the future. For the time being our next destination will be SMM, where we’ll be demonstrating our products and services for the international maritime community at the Norwegian Pavilion.

Built in accordance with the demanding DNV NAUT-AW and highest ice class notations, the vessels use state-of-the-art Anschütz instrumentation that enable year round operation in the most challenging polar conditions – including temperatures below -40° C . The vessels have
been deployed for module transportation for the Yamal LNG project in Russia. Raytheon Anschütz supplies these high-tech vessels with a comprehensive and advanced dual gyro compass system complete with
redundancy in distribution and well as a stearing gear control system. This includes the top-of-the-range NP 5500 fully adaptive autopilot for maximum precision in heading and track control steering. The gyro system integrates two maintenance-free, strap-down gyro compasses, which use hemispherical resonator gyros (HRG) for measuring angular rates. The new technology offers superior lifetime performance and outruns the long-term stability of traditional fibre-optical gyros (FOGs). Anschütz gyro compasses are well known for their accuracy and reliability even under harshest environmental conditions. The sensors will deliver highest levels of precision and operational safety to support the demanding mission profile of the new artic vessels. The system includes typical features of an Anschütz gyro systems such as the automatic speed- and latitude error correction, an individual speed error correction mode, an independent transmitting magnetic compass path, and quick settling.

Re-gasification system for Norwegian ship conversion In August, Wärtsilä signed a contract to supply the re-gasification system for an FSRU (Floating, Storage, Re-gasification Unit) conversion project that Höegh LNG plans to carry out on a modern LNG vessel.
Wärtsilä will supply the re-gasification system for an FSRU conversion project that Höegh LNG plans to carry out on a modern LNG vessel.
The Wärtsilä re-gasification system to be supplied will feature regas
technology using water glycol as the intermediate medium instead of
propane. This provides a more compact solution being some 15 percent smaller and lighter than the propane based system. - Having used Wärtsilä's systems for previous FSRUs, we are familiar with their expertise in this field and we did not hesitate in accepting their competitive bid and selecting their system for this FSRU conversion vessel, says Sveinung J.S. Støhle, CEO and President of Höegh LNG. The Wärtsilä scope of supply for this project comprises the water glycol re-gasification module, the water glycol /seawater heaters and pumps. Delivery is scheduled for autumn 2017.Wärtsilä has previously supplied eight re-gasification systems to Höegh LNG.

Vårpussen i tradisjonell form vil gradvis forsvinne.

Worldwide maritime security incidents drop by a quarter - despite a steep rise in West
Half-year global maritime security analysis for 2016: 24% decrease in maritime security incidents globally - 20% of global incidents involved tankers - 11% of global maritime incidents were kidnaps - 51% increase in maritime security incidents in the Gulf of Guinea - 61% decrease in maritime security incidents in South-east Asia - 57% of maritime activism incidents occurred in Europe - Kandla (India) was the top location for port and anchorage crime, followed by Jakarta (Indonesia), and in joint third Callao (Peru) and Pulau Batam (Indonesia). London: 21 July, 2016: In the first six months of 2016, Control Risks recorded a significant decline in maritime security incidents[1] globally (24%) compared with the same period in 2015. This decrease has been driven by a 61% decline in cases in South-east Asia, where incidents of piracy and armed robbery have reached their lowest point since 2009. Very low levels of criminal activity continue across the Horn of Africa and a decline was also registered in South and Central America. This has contributed further to the decrease in overall maritime security
incidents worldwide. Despite this, 96% of all maritime security incidents globally were related to piracy and armed robbery, showing that this threat in particular continues to be a key concern in all regions except Europe, where there were no recorded incidents. In European ports and waters, cases of maritime activism were the number one operational risk, contributing to 57% of all incidents globally. The maritime security environment differs again across West Africa. The Gulf of Guinea and Nigerian waters experienced the highest levels of
maritime security incidents since before 2008, with high numbers of abductions and attacks continuing across these areas. Sebastian Villyn, a maritime consultant at Control Risks, commented: “This shift in some of the key regions illustrates how quickly patterns of maritime crime can change. In Asia we have seen an unprecedented decrease in attacks on commercial vessels, driven by enhanced security patrols and a crackdown on crime syndicates onshore. However, we have also recorded an increase in

“At the same time, it is clear that there are other pressing maritime security concerns globally, beyond piracy. Terrorist attacks in ports, though rare, have been recorded in conflict zones such as Libya and Yemen this year. Most recently we saw the temporary closure of the Bosphorus Strait, a key chokepoint located in north-western Turkey, following the attempted coup there. Some operators are also exposed to boarding by activist groups, which generally pose a limited security risk, but bring operational and potentially reputational repercussions.”

Ill.: Hapag-Lloyd Cruises

Kranen bruker flettet fibertau i stedet for stålvaier.
