City of Edinburg EDINBURG’S 9TH ANNUAL LOS MUERTOS BAILAN FESTIVAL & BLOCK PARTY
In a dazzling display of culture, art, and celebration, the City of Edinburg recently hosted the 9th Annual “Los Muertos Bailan Festival & Block Party.” The event, held on Saturday, October 21, 2023, transformed McIntyre St. from 8th St. into the largest Day of the Dead block party in South Texas, with more than 10,000 people attending. In partnership with the Museum of South Texas History and Area956, this vibrant pre-celebration of the Day of the Dead brought the community together for a lively celebration of life and the connection between the living and the deceased. The festival delighted attendees with various activities, including carnival rides and vendors offering unique treasures and delicious festival food. Best of all, it was free and open to the public, making it an inclusive celebration for all.

Edinburg’s diverse artistic, musical, and performing talents took center stage, with Mexican folkloric dancers captivating the audience with their stunning performances. MOSTH’s Altar exhibit, the community procession, and the community altar showcased the more traditional aspects of Dia de los Muertos, and this year, the community paid tribute to Edinburg’s beloved Fire Chief Shawn Snider at the altar. The 9th Annual “Los Muertos Bailan Festival” was a resounding success, weaving cultural richness and community spirit into the heart of Edinburg.
