Tuckton Bridge Repairs Complete After periods of traffic chaos on both sides of Tuckton Bridge, the essential link has now re-opened. Shops in Tuckton suffered with traders reporting a drop in footfall, not helped by motorists queuing up and down the High Street. Ian Kalra, transportation services manager at Bournemouth council said, “These are essential maintenance works to a heavily used structure which is over 100 years old”. Local resident Richard commented, “For those of us living nearby, it feels like a near annual event. It appears the current works are more substantial than those before. So why have so many "sticking plaster" bodge-jobs been inflicted on us in the past?” Were you affected by the work? Add your comments online and see more photos from the bridge repairs at www.southbourne.net

Are You a Fanelli’s Fan? Fanelli’s on Seabourne Road in Southbourne is Bournemouth’s longest running pizzeria. We met up with manager Allan to find out what makes a Fanelli’s pizza so special. “Our pizza bases are made with raw ingredients on the premises daily. We only use the finest and freshest produce, coupled with over 20 years experience means we will not be beaten on product quality or service”, explained Allan who took over as store manager in 2011. “We make our own dough in house and use the finest italian ciabatta bread spread with our own garlic butter. We season and cook our chicken in house and our 9” 12” 14” 18” spiced beef recipe is a hot secret! Tasty coleslaw is hand made using fresh and crunchy vegetables.” Fanelli’s delivery is usually within 30 minutes and all delivery staff are locals with excellent knowledge of the Southbourne area, meaning your pizza is delivered direct from the oven to your plate in the very best time. If you fancy something a little sweeter for afters, Fanelli’s also have a great selection of side orders, desserts and ice-cream.

Mr Barber Joins Michaels One of Southbourne’s most recognisable faces is Jason, better known as Mr Barber. Jason is now based at Michael’s Traditional Barbers on Woodside Road in Southbourne. We met up with Jason plus Michaels regulars Rebecca and Victoria to find out about the services offered at Michaels. There has been a barbers at 18 Woodside Road since 1984 making it one of the longest running traditional barbers in the area. Shown in the image below is the original store-front. Michaels has always offered mens, and more recently womens haircuts, at excellent prices and Jason’s arrival has meant adding more new services to the store. Jason told us more about his background, “Southbourne has been a big part of my life”, he explained. “I have lived in the area since I was five and I am delighted to be working in a traditional barbers shop in this area.” “Southbourne is certainly an up and coming area, the opening of places like Michaels in 1984 Ludo Lounge has helped bring more younger people back to the area. It’s great to be part of a local business such as this, supporting the local community.” £1 Discount Michaels is based on Woodside Road, just off Southbourne Grove. If you haven’t been before, or haven’t been for a while, be sure to snip out the £1 off voucher to get an even better price on your next short, back and sides!

New Collection at Sugar Mango

and designer jewellery from £30

Sugar Mango, Southbourne’s favourite independent boutique launches its stunning new spring/summer jewellery collection. Semi-precious gems and unique silver designs from owner & designer Alison Timmons help make this collection of unusual and one off pieces, at surprisingly affordable prices, a must see this season! Sugar Mango is the go-to destination for striking designer jewellery from as little as £30 to as far as your imagination can take you. Gorgeous gift-wrap is free and at www.sugarmango.com and delivery is free across the UK, helping spread the sparkle. “I’m really pleased with the new collection, the inspiration came from the beautiful vibrant colours of India where I design and make my jewellery. It’s always extra exciting to find new stones to use, my favourite this trip was Super Seven, a truly beautiful stone” says Alison. Already well into their fifth year, Sugar Mango’s eclectic collections of gifts and accessories has grown; a new showroom of locally made tables and mirrors using reclaimed wood make these chunky one off pieces a really stunning addition. With customer service in mind, Sugar Mango now offers a full jewellery repair & alterations service, with an experienced goldsmith now working as part of the team. And if you’re looking for a bespoke piece they also undertake commissions. Alison tells us more about her plans for the future, “In 2012 my mission is to deliver exceptional customer service, consistently exceed our customer’s expectations through promising a lot and delivering even more, while continuing to develop design led collections.”
