The long-lasting rose gold alloy retains its fiery colour and lustre over time, and is named after one of the reddest orbiting planetoids in our solar system. EDITOR’S NOTE Summer has finally arrived, and with that comes beautiful weather and many reasons to celebrate. One of my favourite times of year is now, when most of us seem to have that extra spring in our step, the reasons for bigger smiles are bountiful, and the arrival of the early morning sun breathes that holiday feel into the air. Bring on the piña colada, poolside. In this issue of Aspire Lifestyle, the team and I have rounded up some exceptional gift ideas, and we’ve shared some truly gorgeous foods and wines to indulge in over the holidays. Talking about food, the foodie scene across the country has picked up beautifully, and we’ve suggested some new restaurants for you to visit. A highlight here is the growing foodie scene in JHB. A movement that we’ve been waiting for for quite some time now. Even the likes of heralded Chef Luke Dale Roberts has secured a restaurant or two here. Latest fashion collections have hit the street, and with this in mind, we take a look at some of the season’s best new designs. A welcome addition to the local swimwear offering, Summer Glen’s
K
Klein Karoo Inspired Collection is just perfect for time spent at the pool and the beach. We also look at some of the latest seasonal makeup trends — from playful lips and fresh neutrals to unexpected pops of colour; this season is all about trying something new. If you’re planning some downtime this summer — and I sincerely hope that you are — you might like to explore the brand-new luxury spa at The Alphen Boutique Hotel in Constantia, Cape Town. We discover this beautiful space, along with some other local gems that are well worth a visit. We hope that you enjoy browsing these pages. Wishing all of our readers a happy and healthy summer season.

Return of a classic The Speedmaster Moonwatch collection from OMEGA has been updated with a new generation of models.
OMEGA’S SPEEDMASTER MOONWATCH has been updated in a brand-new edition. The much-loved timepiece made an exciting comeback —this time with unique touches in design, as well as an anti-magnetic Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement.
THE INSPIRATION
For the exciting launch, OMEGA took inspiration from the fourth generation Moonwatch style, which Apollo 11 astronauts wore on the moon in 1969. The space-era tributes include a classic asymmetrical case, step dial, double bevel caseback, the famous dot over 90 (DON), and a dot diagonal to 70 on the anodised aluminium bezel ring. All of these details are important when it comes to really telling the story of Speedmaster.
THE UPDATES
One of the most significant updates is the arrival of the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861. This new movement ensures that the new timepiece is unaffected by even the most extreme magnetic fields. It also means that the watch is now certified as a Master Chronometer — the highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic resistance in the Swiss watch industry.

MYSTERY OF THE

B
orn in Amsterdam, the Scotch & Soda brand has always celebrated the city's free spirit in its endlessly optimistic and unique designs. The new summer collection is no different — informed by a free-spirited and unrestrained mood, the pieces are a celebration of individuality and authenticity.
26_Scotch&Soda.indd 26
The summer collection is inspired by Simone Melchior, the 1950s sea explorer who challenged the expectations of her gender and time to become the world's first female scuba diver and a pioneer of marine conservation. The collection draws on Simone's colourful life and brings together an eclectic mix of colours, prints and classics. Some stand-out elements include statement marine prints — think starfish patterns, graphic anemones, and metallic tiger shells. The year-round wardrobe is punctuated by denim and features fresh washes, clean indigos and powder blues.

Named for the Beach Boys’ hit song, the new Kokomo collection from Pichulik is all about delighting in the simple pleasures of summer. The designs are both playful and sophisticated, while the colour palette is bold and lush — think verdant greens and island blues alongside hunter green and rust orange. The pieces work well together, and the styles invite some mixing and matching for a unique look — the collection is the perfect combination of fun and nostalgia.
E
The Kokomo collection is inspired by the simple things — think messy ice creams at the beach, spontaneous swims in the sea, and balmy evenings spent with friends. The pieces are designed to invoke the very best of summer in all its simple sensuality and playfulness.

The wilderness within The Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden straddles Stellenbosch's manicured gardens and the rugged mountains beyond the town. It's a destination, a must-visit experience to add to your bucket list. JENNIFER CAMPBELL
D
ylan Lewis is widely recognised as one of the world's foremost sculptors of the animal form but has, in recent years, used the human form as a means of exploring our relationship with our inner wilderness. Dylan creates pieces that demonstrate both technical skill and conceptual complexity with an international career that spans two decades. Now, his work can be seen in the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden in Stellenbosch — a space that provides a fitting and unique context in which Dylan's work can be experienced and understood.
THE PROJECT
The Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden was not calculated. Rather, it emerged unexpectedly over time — Dylan sculpted a flat canvas of land, with all seven hectares shaped and moulded with an excavator according to his direction over several years. The scale of the project was unprecedented, although the principle of the practice remained much the same as his sculpture process. "I felt like I was walking through a large surface of one of my sculptures," he says of the project. As such, he applied the same techniques as he would for a smaller creation, working within the sightlines of the nearby mountains so that the garden formed part of a much larger composition.

THE THEMES
As Dylan worked on the garden, he realised that he was expressing something more than the physical. Throughout the process, he found himself returning to a theme that appears consistently in his work — the contrast between tameness and wildness. In the case of the garden, the amphitheatre created by the mountains represents the untamed wild, while the garden is manmade. "Exploring this tension allowed me to place the sculptures in the context in which they were created — as forms of nature," he explains. And, these are not the only contrasts that exist in the garden — the space is an embodiment
36_Art.indd 38
2021/11/17 17:57
/ ART PROFILE /
of life's dichotomies and the complexities of what it means to human. The sculptures express human emotion, its contrasts and complexities. "The human experience of a garden is often one of serenity and beauty — but what's happening on another level, beneath the surface and invisible to the naked eye is also a reality and just part of life. Nature is beauty, but it is also death, decay, destruction."
THE SPACE
The garden itself comprises more than 60 sculptures along four kilometres of paths. The garden's design was influenced by Japanese gardens and the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic — as such, it takes on a minimalist look with natural curves and imperfections. There is a focus on indigenous species and fynbos in particular. A pink 'heather hill' features a beautiful selection of ericas, buchus, birchleaved pelargoniums and Flats' silkypuffs. Some particularly unusual varieties of erica were sourced from Kirstenbosch and planted along the edge of the lake.

Cinema beneath
by Thea Beckman
WITH NOTHING BUT a veil of atmosphere between you and a burning sky
of stars, The Galileo Open Air Cinema is, without a doubt, the most romantic way to watch a movie. Swaddled in blankets, the cool night air lapping at your cheeks, a bottle of wine at your side, a feast of movie treats in your lap, The Galileo is an experience that will lovingly cling to you long after you’ve reluctantly scraped yourself off your lush lawn cinema seat and driven home. Now, with summer well on the way, The Galileo has returned for its 10th season to a constellation of picturesque venues throughout the Cape, allowing viewers to connect to some of the city’s most iconic and beautiful locations while soaking up a classic film or hot new blockbuster. On Thursdays and Sundays, the beloved Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens opens its verdant arms to cinema-goers, while Fridays see a rotating roster of exciting and trendy city venues, like Battery Park at the V&A Waterfront and Central Park in Century City. Saturdays are hosted by a carefully curated selection of Cape wine estates in Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek, and Somerset West (yes please, I’ll take my cinema with a side of 300-year-old history and delicious wine), while the first Wednesday of the month offers a more lavish and sophisticated experience with the new ROYALE cinema picnic option, which alternates between the Radisson Blu Waterfront and Beau Constantia Wine Estate. So, if you’re in the mood for a good movie, relinquish yourself to the magnificence of the Cape’s great outdoors and the enchantment of a night of cinema under the stars! www.thegalileo.co.za

by Jennifer Campbell
The Alphen Boutique Hotel in Constantia recently opened the doors to a brandnew onsite spa. The five-star spa boasts unrivalled luxury in a gorgeous setting. A welcome addition to the area, the space promises to be a firm favourite for those in need of a recharge.
TRY A TREATMENT
The treatment list at The Alphen Spa includes a comprehensive range of services. You can expect all the usual massages, as well as those especially customised for pregnant women and those in need of better-quality sleep. Visitors can also enjoy body scrubs, polishes and wraps, as well as a range of grooming treatments. For something special, you might consider a signature treatment — these include combinations of polishes, massages and facials along with lunch at one of their onsite restaurants, La Belle Bistro & Patisserie and Blanko.
ENJOY SOME POOL TIME
If a day of pampering at The Alphen Spa is just what the doctor ordered, you might be tempted to extend your time by lounging at the pool. The Alphen pool is newly heated and is the perfect place to recharge and relax. It’s set aside the hotel’s upbeat cocktail lounge, Incognito, where you can enjoy a selection of local wines, refreshing cocktails and good music. www.alphen.co.za

Chef Luke Dale Roberts Every restaurant, every service, and every plate of food, a masterpiece.
C
hef Luke Dale Roberts is so prodigiously decorated for his feats in gastronomy, he'd have to hire an airplane hangar to house all of his awards. A titan within South Africa's culinary scene, his achievements on local turf have created seismic waves so far afield there is scarcely a top chef in the world who hasn't encountered his name or that of his Cape Town-based restaurants: The Test Kitchen, The Potluck Club, The Shortmarket Club, and Salsify at the Roundhouse, which he opened in 2010, 2011, 2016, and 2018 respectively. But now this chef, this demi-god, is making a move to Johannesburg with brand new iterations of The Test Kitchen and The Shortmarket Club: the start of a post-pandemic chapter that foodies are paying close attention to. And for good reason. Chef Luke has not only garnered relentless international acclaim for just about everything he's touched but he's also managed to put South Africa on the map as a fine dining destination. Here's how it all happened. British-born Chef Luke Dale Roberts embarked upon his culinary training at the historic 5-star Baur Au Lac Hotel in Zurich, Switzerland, whereafter he returned to London to work under the watchful tutelage of Chef Kevin Hopgood at Elena's L'Etoile, a Parisian bistro-style restaurant in the West End. From here, he graduated to executive
sous chef at Soho House Media Club, where he catered for the likes of Oasis, Kevin Spacey, and Madonna. Then, in 2000, Chef Luke was offered executive chef position at the international Accor Hotel Group, which put him at the helms of hugely successful restaurants across Asia, including Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea, and the Philippines. During this time, the limitations of his classic French training fell open with the influx of exotic ingredients, spices, cooking techniques, and food traditions. "My time in Europe taught me to cook; my time in Asia broadened my horizons," he has said.
AWARDS ENOUGH TO DECORATE A CHRISTMAS TREE
Finally, in 2006, Chef Luke set down roots in his wife's homeland, South Africa, becoming the executive chef at La Colombe in Constantia Uitsig. And thus began the stratospheric rise to success that most South African foodies are familiar with: La Colombe wins the Acqua Panna' Best Restaurant in Africa and the Middle East' award and 12th position in the 2010 San Pellegrino' World's 50 Best Restaurants', the highest-ranking a local restaurant had ever received in the 19year history of the awards. In 2010, Chef Luke opened the bastion of gastronomy that was The Test Kitchen, which went on to smash a first-place victory at every annual Mercedes-Benz Eat Out Awards for
six years, much to the chagrin of every other 'top 20' restaurant that fought knife-andfork to dethrone it. This is just to mention a few accolades. There are many more, but I'm pretty sure that, by now, you get the picture.
"Your food is a reflection of the life you've led." There is something unbelievably special about Chef Luke Dale Roberts. He has a vision untethered to orthodoxy and convention; he vigorously throws himself into the unknown; he prioritizes creative freedom and experimentation; and pushes diners to the limits of their discomfort with the pay-off being multisensory enlightenment. It doesn't matter how well something works either. He relentlessly challenges himself and his team to pursue new, fresh, and interesting flavour combinations, striking unforgettable chords on the nose and palate. Perhaps it's best summed up by his statement: "The most important thing is flavour, and layers of flavour", and it shows in Chef Luke Dale Roberts' approach to his art, of which every restaurant, every service, and every plate of food, is a masterpiece.

Whether they’re moving from Cape Town to Johannesburg, from Rosebank to Sandton, or opening their doors for the very first time, these fine restaurants are making serious moves, bringing fresh, exciting new dining experiences to South Africans and visitors alike. Here are this season’s must-try new restaurants.
THE SHORTMARKET CLUB
Cape Town’s beloved establishment, The Shortmarket Club by Chef Luke Dale Roberts, has embarked upon a new chapter by opening its doors in Johannesburg. On the fine-dining menu of this elegant eatery, which offers both indoor and outdoor seating, is a mouth-watering smorgasbord of Asian-influenced small plates, decadent seafood platters, and succulent prime cuts of the finest meat cooked to order by Head Chef Taryn Smith. And the vibe? Heritage brasserie meets sultry, smoky cigar lounge (without the actual smoke). Rosebank, JHB www.theshortmarketclub.co.za
ETHOS, JOHANNESBURG
There’s a whole lot of “new” going on at the Mediterranean-inspired restaurant Ethos. For starters, they’ve transitioned to a new space at Oxford Parks in Rosebank; for entrées, they’ve teamed up with culinary superhero Chef Luke Dale Roberts, who has designed a brand-new menu and appointed Executive Chef, Ken Phuduhudu to lead the team; and for desserts, diners can expect a casual fine-dining vibe. The philosophy here is that you eat with your eyes first, so diners can expect food as beautiful to taste as it is to behold. Rosebank, JHB @ethos.sa

NEVERMIND
Located on the edge of the peninsula surrounded by ocean, right by the Seal Point Lighthouse of Cape St. Francis, Nevermind is the brainchild of Chef Wesley Randles, formerly of The Shortmarket Club, The Commissary, and Aegir Project Brewery (all in Cape Town). Astounding location aside, this jewel of a restaurant, café, and bakery is totally beguiling guests with its gorgeous fare, which ranges from hedonistic baked breakfast goods to fresh surf and turf lunches and dinners. THE APOSTLES BRAAI
Never content to rest on their laurels, The 12 Apostles Hotel and Spa has introduced a new offering to their extensive repertoire of attractions, and this one will certainly appeal to every South African (and tourist): The Apostles Braai! Housed within an elegant open-plan yet intimate venue, executive chef Christo Pretorius spoils guests with a delectable selection of traditional braai snacks, canapés, meats, broodjies, and even vegan and vegetarian dishes. Now all you need is a Klippies and coke. Lekker! Camps Bay, Cape Town | www.12apostleshotel.com

THE GREENHOUSE
So, when they say “greenhouse”, they mean greenhouse! This urban oasis, which has garnered a welldeserved reputation for delicious modern tapas, artisan bevvies, and live beats by resident DJs, has just made the move from Rosebank to Sandton. Here, guests can kick back in a vibey environment lushly carpeted in living foliage while indulging in a cornucopia of small sharing plates, salads, flatbreads, dips, and sushi to please even the fussiest of palates. Welcome to the jungle! Sandton, JHB www.greenhousejhb.co.za
THE RIVER CAFÉ
As if anyone needed another reason to visit the historic and stunningly beautiful Vergelegen wine estate in Somerset West, here it is! Their latest pop-up restaurant is The River Café, led by Executive Chef Michael Cooke, which has been very much inspired by its setting on the banks of the Lourens River. The menu is compact and unfussy, with a focus on superlative quality and flavour. Think Saldanha Bay oysters, whole roasted trout, succulent rib-eye steak, and gem squash ravioli with parmesan cream. BEYOND AND ALL ABOUT:
Coffee Stellski Coffee Bar & Café. Kooky, colourful, and the best damn cuppa in Cape Town. BY THEA BECKMAN
T
he brainchild of proprietor Megan Kritzinger, Stellski Coffee Bar & Café is exactly what happens when you channel your whole heart into something you love. In the case of these truly delightful Cape Town establishments, the focal points of this love are good coffee, food, people, and a Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Stella. Think kooky, kaleidoscopic, a giant panting dog mural on the wall, and an unsinkable vibe. Oh, and, naturally, delicious food and ethically sourced, Fairtrade coffee that's to die for. In fact, every cup is made exclusively from 100% arabica beans from African producers in Ethiopia, Burundi, and Tanzania. Heck, even the music at Stellski has attracted happy Google reviews from patrons. Seriously, they're awesome!
SMALL SHOPS WITH A LOTTA SOUL
There are two locations: the original Stellski Coffee Bar being in Loop Street, right in the beating heart of Cape Town, and Stellski Café having just opened its doors in June 2021, in the gentrified industrial suburb of Woodstock. Both have the same schtick: they're small shops with a whole lotta soul. So much soul, in fact, that it literally spills out onto the pavement in the rich and intoxicating smell of roast coffee and fresh grilled cheese sandwiches, amongst other delectables that range from chocolate croissants and all-day breakfasts to lunches of savoury pies, freshly made soups, and toasties.
DARK AND BROODY IS SO LAST CENTURY
At Stellski Coffee Bar & Café, colour is in, and broody is out. When Megan was asked what inspired the exuberant aesthetic, she said: "I found that most coffee companies had the same moody, dark, masculine appearance. It's like they were being rated on how trendy the barista's

man-bun/beard/tattoo was, rather than the actual customer experience." What makes for a more compelling café experience is a place that plays with the joyful and creative influence coffee has on people. Think about it: cafés are places to meet friends, get some work done, write your first novel, go on a first date, or grab a cup of wake-up juice. They're thriving places of community and creativity! As a writer, I can fully attest to this. Inspired by this concept and her highoctane pooch, Stella, Megan quit her 9-to-5 job and, in 2019, opened Stellski Coffee Bar on Loop Street. Fast-forward, and now there are two.
NOT YOUR AVERAGE COFFEE BAR
Uncomplicated yet delicious food, foottapping music, incredible coffee made from the highest quality arabica beans (proudly African), vibes for days, and a theme inspired by an exuberant pupper, it's safe to say that Stellski Coffee Bar & Café in Loop Street and Woodstock are not your average coffee bars. So, if this sounds like your cup of Joe, you know where to go the next time you need to feel inspired and energized.

A Fine Romance This home blends an enduring architectural style with inspired interiors that combine sophistication and everyday ease, making it ideal for a young family. TEXT ROBYN ALEXANDER STYLING SVEN ALBERDING PHOTOGRAPHS WARREN HEATH
M
y projects tell a story,” says homeowner and interior designer Simone Hirsch. She’s sitting on the spacious veranda of the house she recently renovated in Bishopscourt, Cape Town, for her family, which she shares with her husband Richard and their two sons, Cole and Connor. The story of the Hirschs’ home has unfolded over several years following the young family’s move to Cape Town and their renovation of this house, which they had lived in for two years before starting the remodelling project. Like many other homes in the verdant suburb, this one has a name rather than just a street number: it’s called Summer Planes, in tribute to the numerous plane trees that grace the property’s large garden. At one time, the house was owned by a member of the Labia family – the original Cape-based members who built the stately home that is now the Labia Museum in nearby Muizenberg – who left behind the beautiful old marble fountain that still graces the garden today. And renowned Cape Town landscaper Franchesca Watson, who also lived here for a time, laid out the garden’s design. Stories abound at Summer Planes, then, and the most recent chapter of its long history is a very happy one. Together with Johannesburg-based architect Peter Cohen, Simone has
brought the existing house – built in Cape classical style – into the 21st century in a way that emphasises all the best aspects of this genre of architecture. With simple geometric lines and pared-back yet substantial forms, the house now melds timeless architectural elegance and sophisticated interiors that reflect Simone’s eye for restrained colour, layers of natural textures, and just the right touches of unique detail. Simone has been an interior designer for almost five years now, offering a full turnkey service to her clients, and has to date worked on a couple of projects with Peter. He has a “genuinely special sense of space and proportion”, she says, adding, “I feel inspired every time I work with him.” Asked to describe her style, she suggests “simple sophistication” as the best way to sum up her use of clean, contemporary furnishings as well as natural materials and textures – think stone, marble, wood and sandstone – in her interiors. Overall, every design element employed in the house has been chosen with care to suit the needs and wants of all its occupants, and it quite obviously functions perfectly as a family home. No wonder, then, that Simone sums up Summer Planes by smilingly referring to the house as “our happy space”. www.simonekatherineinteriors.com

Simone Katherine Interiors designed the four-poster bed, the bedside pedestals and the bench at the foot of the bed, upholstered in Miroir by Pierre Frey – and the bolster on the bed is made up in the same fabric. The curtains that can be drawn around the bed itself are by Ralph Lauren Home. The main bedroom’s en suite bathroom and dressing room feature built-in cupboards and a vanity area designed by Simone Katherine Interiors with fluted oak used for the cupboard fronts. The bamboo chair was found in a local vintage store. The bath is from Victorian Bathrooms.
Cole’s bedroom has a sporty, retro ‘cars’ theme and has twin beds with headboards designed by Simone Katherine Interiors and upholstered in Slubby Linen in Neptune from Warwick Fabrics. The wall light is by Ralph Lauren Home, and the retro car grilles on the wall were sourced from Hunter Gatherer, as were the metal lockers used as bedside tables.
A nautical theme pulls the decor in Connor’s bedroom together: the twin beds have headboards designed by Simone Katherine Interiors and upholstered in a fabric from Ian Mankin. The desk is from Frag, and the built-in cupboards were made and installed by Malco.

Summer glam Whether you’re a minimalist or love a bit of drama, there’s a beauty trend for everyone this summer. JENNIFER CAMPBELL
A
fter months of lockdown and social distancing, many of us are emerging back into the world and are ready to ditch our stay-at-home looks in favour of something a little more fun. Bright days and warm nights are the perfect excuses to channel the optimism of summer and play with colour and brand-new styles. Whether you enjoy minimal make-up and a focus on fresh skin or like to experiment with more daring looks, you’re sure to find something from this trend line-up to incorporate into your own style.
GRAPHIC EYES
This season, bold eyes make a statement. Graphic liners are being used in exciting new ways — multi-texture liners, for example, add colour to the eyelids, while underliner provides a fresh look. In fact, underliner was spotted on many of this year’s runways and is proving very versatile — go dramatic with bold black, or opt for a more subtle version with a toned-down brown. If you want to try something extra-fun, you might consider adding a pop of colour to the inner corners of your eyes. The look pairs well with an otherwise minimal aesthetic — think nude lips, clear skin, and a splash of neon yellow, blue or pink eyeshadow. Mastering this trend is surprisingly easy as it’s more about the colour that you pick than the shape itself. Simply choose your favourite shade of eyeliner or eyeshadow and apply it to the inner top lid and the bottom inner lash. Avoid harsh lines by softening the make-up with a fluffy brush.

POPPING LIPS
Nude lips are undoubtedly classic, but this summer sees bright shades of pink, coral and red taking centre stage. If you choose to embrace a vibrant colour palette, be sure to go for long wear products that are highly pigmented and will last throughout the day. Matte lip crèmes and stains are both great options, while glossy formulas in lively hues also work beautifully with this look. Besides bright colours, there are a few other ways to create an on-trend statement lip. Twotone lips are reminiscent of the ‘90s — create the look with a modern twist by applying a lip liner before putting on a nude gloss. And when it comes to gloss, it’s all about high-wattage lacquers this season.

POWERFUL BROWS
Big, bold brows have been around for a while, and it seems like the trend is here to stay. For a fresh and modern look, it’s best to go natural — choose a pencil that isn’t too pigmented and a clear brow gel for a low maintenance option. For extra-fluffy brows, consider the geolift trend — the look is all about structure and symmetry, with an emphasis on fullness. Similarly, feathered brows also embrace a natural shape and are soft and lush.

FRESH SKIN
Fresh skin never goes out of fashion, and for good reason. Minimal make-up accentuates healthy, natural skin and works well with any skin tone and type. To get the look right, choose a lightweight foundation or tinted moisturiser that feels comfortable, and simply add a light dusting of shimmery powder on your nose and cheekbones for a little extra shimmer. For a fresh, neutral look, make sure that your eyes, lips and cheeks all match — choose tones of champagne, nude or soft pink. rotecting your skin from damage on a daily basis should be a habit, because it can, quite literally, save your life. Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in South Africa, with around 20 000 reported cases every year. Fortunately, there are a few ways in which you can take care of your skin and minimise the effects of the sun.
CONSIDER YOUR DIET
It’s no secret that nutrition plays a key role in our overall health, but it may come as a surprise that certain foods can actually help to protect against sun damage. Blueberries, for example, are packed with powerful antioxidants that fight off free radicals that can damage the skin; while watermelons and tomatoes contain an antioxidant known as lycopene, which absorbs UVA and UVB radiation. Other good snacks that can benefit the skin and minimise the effects of the sun include nuts and seeds, which contain omega-3 fatty acids, a natural anti-inflammatory; carrots and leafy greens, which are packed with beta carotene, which provides natural sun protection; and cauliflower, which contains antioxidants and alpha-amino acids that keep oxidative stress from free radicals at bay and absorb UV radiation.
SLATHER ON THE SUNSCREEN
When it comes to sun protection, there is simply no substitute for sunscreen. In fact, sunscreen is the most important skincare product there is. Fortunately, the days of sticky lotions are far gone, and there are now a range of top-quality, easy-to-wear products available. Heliocare has a range of products formulated to protect the whole family from sun damage — their offering includes a paediatrics range, as well as an invisible spray and a water-based gel. Interestingly, the brand also offers oral capsules, which contain antioxidants to help defend against free radicals. Local brand SKOON. also has some lovely sun protection products available. Their Sun Guardians Duo Pack includes their SUNNYBONANI day defence day cream which is a natural, mineral-only sunscreen for the face, while the NITELOVE antipollution serum provides overnight support to the skin and repairs daily damage from sun and smog.
the visible signs of ageing. But while SPF goes a long way in protecting the skin, it does not, unfortunately, safeguard against infrared radiation. For this reason, it is highly beneficial to use topical antioxidants — they have the ability to complement your sunscreen and offer a second line of defence against harmful free radicals. The Endocare Edafence C Ferulic Serum is a great addition to your sun protection regime. It’s a triple-antioxidant shield that protects against oxidative damage, boosts cellular regeneration, and stimulates collagen production for visibly firmer, and more radiant-looking skin. An added bonus? It’s suitable for all skin types, and very easy to apply.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT TOPICAL ANTIOXIDANTS HAVE THE ABILITY TO COMPLEMENT YOUR SUNSCREEN AND OFFER A SECOND LINE OF DEFENCE AGAINST HARMFUL FREE RADICALS
DON’T UNDERESTIMATE ANTIOXIDANTS
It’s important to wear sunscreen every day in order to block both UVA and UVB rays, which are the cause of free radicals. Free radicals can cause serious damage to the skin over time, and lead to

A dazzling affair A new collaboration between Faaiza Omar and Charles Greig promises exceptional one-of-a-kind pieces. JENNIFER CAMPBELL
F
aaiza Omar recently revealed an exciting new jewellery collaboration with Charles Greig Jewellers. The collection, which features the camellia as its signature flower motif, highlights a Charles Greig favourite — the emerald. Unusual fancy cut diamonds enhance the gorgeous gemstone for a timeless and sophisticated aesthetic. Faaiza Omar is best known for her stunning confectionary creations, and this collection is her first official foray into the world of jewellery design. She presented a design concept to Christopher Greig of Charles Greig Jewellers — Faaiza saw a gap in the market for exclusive, stand-out pieces — and together with Svetla Stevens, who has headed up the Charles Greig workshop operation of master goldsmiths and setters for well over 20 years, she turned her ideas into reality. Faaiza carefully selected gems and emeralds for each piece and worked with rose and yellow gold as base metals. The green shade of the emeralds represents new beginnings and features across the collection. The collection features 40 pieces and includes earrings, a dedicated ear cuff range, necklaces, bracelets, pendants and rings. Faaiza’s personal favourite is an emerald-and-diamond ear cuff, which combines trillion-cut diamonds and cushion-cut emeralds to resemble a glittering, leafy vine climbing up the ear.
THE INSPIRATION
Much of Faaiza’s work is inspired by nature — from beautiful blooms to the tiniest bug. Her love of jewellery began many years ago, and she has been designing unique pieces for herself, her friends and her family for two decades. “The fun began about 22 years ago once I was married,” says Faaiza. “My mother-in-law adored diamonds and fine jewellery, which sparked my creativity and love for the category.” When it comes to her personal style, Faaiza describes herself as edgy but classic. “I love experimenting with trends, but classic and timeless is my signature,” she says.

INSPIRED BY THE
DESERT The Klein Karoo Collection from Summer Glen seamlessly combines comfort and aesthetics.
JENNIFER CAMPBELL MODELS: AMBER BRITS, JUNETTE SYSTER, MELISSA GWATIDZO PHOTOGRAPHER TEGAN GLEN launched the Summer Glen brand to create a swimsuit that is both supportive and sexy. Months of research and consideration cumulated in the Infinite range, an idea born while Tegan was exploring the beautiful Klein Karoo. Now, in celebration of the collection’s first anniversary, Tegan has dedicated her new Spring/Summer collection to this iconic region of South Africa. The Klein Karoo collection includes four designs. Lunar is inspired by the absolute darkness over midnight in the Karoo and comes in classic black. Rosenka is inspired by the flowering prickly pear cacti, which is often dotted across the Klein Karoo landscape, while Fiesta is inspired by the bright pink fiesta bougainvillea that brings so much colour and life to the Karoo towns. Leo features a beautiful leopard print design, and 10% of all sales will be donated to The Cape Leopard Trust.
THE DESIGN
All of the pieces are designed for both comfort and aesthetic appeal. The full swimsuits feature multi-way straps that can be styled for any occasion. A bonus is that they support cup sizes from A to DD, and the high leg style avoids cutting over the hips. All of the swimsuits are double-lined to avoid any sheerness. Besides creating a swimsuit that looks and feels good, part of the Summer Glen philosophy is a commitment to sustainability. The fabric is made from recycled plastic, and all tags are made from recycled paper. www.summerglen.co.za

Meet Mynhardt
Chef Mynhardt Joubert began his career as a performing artist, but when he moved to the Cape some years ago, he fell in love with the craft of creating good food. On his arrival in Cape Town, he worked in a wine bar in De Waterkant and was quickly swept up in the magic of food and wine. He spent some time managing restaurants in Cape Town before he moved to the small town of Riebeek Kasteel. There, Chef Mynhardt met Anton Espost, the owner of The Wine Kollective, and his wife, Cecile. The couple had a dream to establish a wine bar and eatery in town, and together with Chef Mynhardt, they opened the much-loved Bar Bar Black Sheep. There, Chef Mynhardt cooked and prepared food made with locally grown and sourced ingredients — the menu was simple and authentic and paired beautifully with wines from the region. After five years at Bar Bar Black Sheep, Chef Mynhardt entered — and won — KykNET’s reality cooking competition Kokkedoor along with his cooking partner Tiaan. From there, Chef Mynhardt designed and styled his first cookbook; worked on another TV series that allowed him to cook his way through South Africa; and continues to work with KWV on marketing campaigns.

Only the finest EMILE JOUBERT
A
s the home of the Cape wine industry, the Constantia wine region has an abundance of offerings that never ceases to amaze. If you want to explore the area that made the sweet wines Napoleon sipped on while in exile on St Helena in the early 1800s, Constantia’s the place to be. How about some Sauvignon Blanc? Sure, South Africa’s most popular white wine variety is made to a level of extraordinary excellence in this cool region. And as far as wine tourism goes, Constantia’s offering of cellars and venues that are focussed on wine is in a league of their own.
UNEXPECTED REDS
With everything else it has to offer, it’s easy to forget what a brilliant part of the world Constantia is for red wine. This is, for example, where Cabernet Sauvignon was first grown in the Cape. And in the 1970s, before the Cape’s wine boom, wine-lovers would queue up outside Groot Constantia waiting to get their hands on a case or two of red wine. There is a lot of good red wine in the country, most noticeably from Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and the Swartland. And due to its association with Sauvignon Blanc and those noble sweet wines, plus its status as South Africa’s main wine address, the fact that Constantia makes some of the nation’s most magisterial red wines is not always recognised.
92

/ FOOD & WINE /
And to this, I plead guilty. When reaching for Cabernet Sauvignon or a red Bordeaux blend, I usually head for the oaks and mountains of Stellenbosch and farms such as Kanonkop, Rust en Vrede or Waterford. This was until I had the recent opportunity to taste a brilliant red wine from Constantia Glen, a wine that genuinely blew me away. The wine was the Constantia Glen Five 2018, a blend of all five red Bordeaux varieties, namely Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. I have always liked Constantia Glen as a smart new-wave Constantia property, a superbly hospitable place to visit. But with this Bordeaux blend, Constantia Glen proves itself to be one of the finest red wine producers in the country, capable of competing and surpassing many of the Cape’s more famous and older properties. What I loved about the Constantia Glen Five 2018 was the purity and the absolute focussed expression of the five grapes used to create one harmonious blend. The Cabernet Sauvignon brought dark fruit and an exotic, feral hit of fynbos. The Merlot was all red berries with a bit of meaty succulence. The Cabernet Franc provided a zingy linearity, a racing line of freshness and just the right amount of acidity. And as one blended unit, the wine has a plush, elegant texture that makes it what every great wine aspires to be: plain darn delicious.
1
of Boschendal’s master white winemaker, Danielle Coetsee, the initial expansive intensity of the grapes is toned and nurtured into a dry white wine of enormous beauty and memorable presence. Notes of pear and apple abound, with white flowers and honeysuckle creating an initial impression of perfumed sensuality. But the characteristic waxiness of the Semillon assists in creating a long, complete and enormously satisfying white wine, which is very pleasant to drink now but can definitely take another few years’ ageing in the bottle.
SOMETHING FOR THE FESTIVITIES
Heading for Christmas, are we? I will be doing just that with a few bottles of Cuvée Cinema Pinot Noir from the 2020 vintage, made in Hemel-en-Aarde. This wine has impressed me since the maiden 2008 vintage. And yes, 2020 sounds young, but the winemaker, Peter-Allan Finlayson, is a genius when it comes to making great wines that are accessible in their youth. The vineyard comprises shale, clay and granite soils, implying an immense structure. The vintage does not have the rather invigorating perfume that usually
3
characterises Cuvée Cinema, which implies a sterner wine than the ones I am used to from the Crystallum marque. The nose is brooding and ominous, but then again, we are talking Pinot Noir, the red king of Burgundy. It is a beauty from the first sip. There are few things in the world as immensely reassuring of the planet’s beauty and the greatness of civilisation as a mouth of weighty, juicy, succulent Pinot Noir. And this is what the Cuvée Cinema 2020 offers, a confident and dominating slug of satisfying excellence. The usual Cuvée Cinema line of wild strawberries and blackcurrant are there, drifting on a tapestry of cunningly interwoven tannins. Some porcini powder is present, as well as a hit of dried sage and fresh bay leaf. But the beauty is in the feel of the wine, the marvellous combination between a sinewy, flexible prod from the crisp acidity and the enthralling, complete voluptuous fleshiness within which the dense flavours are found. This Pinot Noir is confident and expressive without being pushy or opinionated. Yet, there is a bit of arrogance in the ease, guile, and assuredness with which this wine presents itself as a commanding force in South African Pinot Noir. Year-after-year.
IN THE SPOTLIGHT
STUNNING WHITES
While on the topic of Bordeaux nobility but straying to the cool white, Boschendal recently released a stunner of a white Bordeaux blend called Suzanne, named after the wife of the farm’s first owner, Nicolas de Lanoye. The wine is a blend of 54% Semillon and 46% Sauvignon Blanc — two of the white varieties in the Bordeaux area. Maturation was done in French oak for depth and complexity. White Bordeaux blends are arguably one of the strongest white wine categories in South Africa due to the ability to farm excellent Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc in this neck of the woods. The fruit for Suzanne’s first vintage, from the year 2019, was sourced from cool-climate Elgin, which delivers slow-ripening, long-hanging grapes of incredible intensity. In the hands

LA MOTTE VIN DE JOIE ROSÉ 2021
VERGELEGEN ‘FLORENCE’ ROSÉ 2021
A new addition to La Motte’s celebrated repertoire of wines, the ‘Vin De Joie’ 2021 is a French-style Rosé made from a blend of 71% Grenache, 19% Mourvèdre, and 10% Syrah. Beguiling salmon pink in colour, this wine delivers well-defined notes of melon, rose petal, nectarine, and Turkish delight on the nose, followed by a polished and juicy palate balanced by refreshing acidity and a lingering nectarine aftertaste.
With 321 years of history tucked under its belt, Somerset West wine estate Vergelegen has, only this year, released its very first Rosé, and right in time for summer! This versatile, rose-gold wine is a blend of Malbec and Shiraz and boasts lovely fresh berries on the nose and palate, with a long, dewy and fresh aftertaste.

GERMANIER GRENACHE NOIR 2021
Bonnievale’s “River Collection” Cinsault Rosé 2021 is so freshly back from the awards podium, the glue on its Double Gold Rosé Rocks sticker is scarcely dry! Made in the style typical of Southern France, this bracing and dry Cinsault Rosé is light, aromatic, and refreshing with generous red fruit flavours on the nose and palate.
Made by award-winning organic wine producer Sophie Germanier, the Germanier Grenache Noir 2021 is a dry and refreshing wine with a crisp finish. On the nose are heady notes of strawberries, watermelon, and raspberries underscored by hints of herbs and lime and lemonade. A truly excellent accompaniment to any light or spicy dish or just a hot summer day!

TOKARA SAUVIGNON BLANC 2021
EIKENDAL ‘MON DÉSIR’ CHARDONNAY 2018
Tokara’s done it again! Their 2021 vintage of Sauvignon Blanc is summer wine perfection incarnate with its crisp, deliciously vibrant flavours. This devilishly moreish wine blends the racy acidity of cool-climate Elgin grapes with the exuberance of warmer climate Stellenbosch fruit, and the result is a bouquet of fresh green apples, black currant leaf, lime blossoms, and subtle oyster-shell salinity.
From the renowned Stellenbosch winery of Eikendal comes the limited release Mon Désir 2018, the second-ever vintage of this Chardonnay, which is only produced in exceptional years. Crafted from cool-climate Elgin Valley grapes, Mon Désir is a classic rendition of this noble varietal and exhibits flavours and aromas of fresh citrus and orange blossoms, finely balanced by careful oaking.

CONSTANTIA GLEN THREE 2018
KWV ‘THE MENTORS’ GRENACHE BLANC 2020 The new vintage of Grenache Blanc from KWV’s “The Mentors” range is an exquisitely layered wine with aromas of white, fleshy peaches, pineapple, and litchi with hints of minerality, lime, oak, and roasted almonds. On the palate, liberal freshness and texture are supported by a linear acidity that enhances the mineral and concentrated finish. R182 per bottle
DURBANVILLE HILLS CAPE PORTRAIT WHITE BLEND 2021 Crafted from Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, this pale straw, green-tinged blend serves up a delightful nose of winter melon, citrus, nectarines, and green figs, followed by notes of lime, citrus, and tropical fruit on the palate. Having grown in maritime climatic conditions, the grapes are slow-ripened, resulting in a delicate, fruity wine with a refreshingly crisp edge and a finish that hints at sweetness. R70 per bottle
BARISTA BLACK 2019
NEDERBURG DOUBLE BARREL RESERVE
Hailing from the highly acclaimed family-owned boutique wine estate of Constantia Glen, the THREE is a Bordeauxstyle red wine blend of Merlot (55%), Cabernet Franc (26%) and Cabernet Sauvignon (19%). The wine is “juicy, glossy, and redfruited with some spicy oak, a green undertone, and a nicely poised finish,” according to UK Master of Wine Tim Atkin, who awarded the Constantia Glen THREE a handsome 92 points!
As timeless and suave as James Bond himself, the Barista Black 2019 is an ode to the richness of the Pinotage legacy and a luxurious expression of this uniquely South African cultivar. The grapes for this sultry Pinotage were sourced predominantly from 20-year-old Swartland bush vines, with the finished product exhibiting an opulent nose of plums, red currants, and baking spice. On the palate, a generous fruit core, velvety tannins, and oak complexity.
Nederburg’s new Double Barrel Reserve is a Bordeaux-style blend of the winery’s hallmark Cabernet Sauvignon with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot and Malbec, each component of which has been uniquely vinified and matured before being combined to achieve a wine of the finest-grained silky texture and a thrilling richness and depth. The nose and palate are a lavish and lengthy feast of sun-ripened blueberries and juicy cherry flavours.

MEET IZELE VAN BLERK
Wine alchemist, judge, &
trailblazer WITH A FORMIDABLE arsenal of qualifications and awards under her belt, and a masterful talent for crafting wines of an exquisite calibre, Izele van Blerk is helping to shatter the glass ceiling for South African women in wine. Even more so for women in wine judging. A winemaker at KWV, one of South Africa’s longestestablished wine and spirits producers, Izele’s domain encompasses the ultra-premium wines of ‘The Mentors Range’. Here, she strives to maintain the stratospheric standards these multi-regional wines have become synonymous with and push towards even loftier heights of quality and consumer experience.
EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON
Izele’s journey into the world of wine began, some might say, with a tennis injury that forced her out of professional competition and the one-year U.S. scholarship she’d been on. Upon her return to South Africa, she decided to pursue a career in wine, which began with a BSc in Viticulture and Oenology at the University of Stellenbosch. After that, she got her hands dirty in Italy with a
season at the Falesco Winery, followed by a smashing performance on Michael Fridjhon’s Wine Tasting Academy exam (a distinction), revealing a finely-tuned palate that would, unsurprisingly, guide her towards immense career success. (Michael Fridjhon is one of South Africa’s most highly regarded international wine judges and wine writers.)
AWARD-WINNING ALCHEMIST
Today, Izele van Blerk is the award-winning alchemist behind a great repertoire of wines produced at KWV, not least of all the afore-mentioned masterpieces comprising The Mentors Range. But she also serves as a wine judge at the annual Veritas Wine Awards — affectionately known as the “Oscars of South African wine” — and the National Young Wine Show. For anyone in wine, Izele van Blerk is a living, breathing inspiration, particularly for women trying to make headway in a traditaionally male-dominated industry. So, for grabbing the wine industry by the ballings and her truly visionary wine, we say “thank you” and tchin-tchin!

Or how about the craggy, regal countenance of the Tsitsikamma and Langkloof Mountains, bathed in the colours of our ascending star? Whichever way you prefer your morning views, you can have them both and infinitely more at the Sky Villa Boutique Hotel in Plettenberg Bay, lord of the horizons and jewel in the crown of the Cape Summer Villa Collection.
AN ARTIST’S VISION
A short five minutes from the Garden Route town of Plettenberg Bay, the five-star Sky Villa Boutique Hotel meets even the loftiest of expectations with its truly visionary interior design, soft and comfortable furnishings, luxury amenities (of which there is seemingly no end), and warm and welcoming hospitality. The hotel features 14 luxury rooms and private terraces, decorated by what feels like the curator of a modern art gallery (and a vastly accomplished one at that). Perhaps the MoMA in New York City. Truly, the furnishings and décor are rich with organic textures, opulent in quality, and intriguing with quirky shapes, patterns, and colours. Yet, for all its playful experimentation, there isn’t a stitch that isn’t tasteful and wholly comfortable.
LUXURY AMENITIES FOR THE DISCERNING TRAVELLER
The Sky Villa Boutique Hotel is also generous in its experiences and amenities. There’s a restaurant — one of the Garden Route’s very best — open to the public, where seasonally-inspired menus are the order of the day. And if the ingredients in your breakfast, lunch, or dinner have not been grown in the hotel garden, they’ve been sourced from local farmers and suppliers so that every meal is a symphony of (sustainable) freshness and flavour.

DESERT MAGIC With residents and visitors from all over the world, the United Arab Emirates is a melting pot of culture, food and ideas. JENNIFER CAMPBELL

lowly but surely, the world is reopening to travellers. If you're ready to pack your bags again, you might consider a trip to the United Arab Emirates — with a multi-cultural community and some of the world's most luxurious hotels and fine dining experiences, it promises an adventure worth taking.
EXPLORE THE DESERT
Dubai is known (and loved) for its glamour and modern architecture, but a trip to the UAE would be incomplete without visiting the desert. The vast sandy expanses and the red and gold dunes hold a unique kind of magic. It's possible to explore these areas with the help of various companies who offer desert safaris — most packages include a drive, camel rides, sandboarding, dinner and entertainment under the stars. To really soak up the scenery, it's worth overnighting at a desert resort. Bab Al Shams is located in the low-lying dunes between Dubai and Abu Dhabi and boasts sweeping vistas, as well as the opportunity to see the rare Arabian gazelle. Qasr Al Sarab Desert Resort in the country's remote Empty Quarter is something special — it's around 90 minutes from Abu Dhabi and offers a luxury experience in the world's largest sand desert.

SEE SOME HISTORY
While there's so much to enjoy in Dubai's modern city scene, it's worth taking a stroll through the historic Al Fahidi historic district to get a sense of the city's past. Much of the area has been beautifully restored to reflect traditional life, and the labyrinth of alleys is home to some unexpected gems, including art galleries, cafes and shops. Much of the original infrastructure has been preserved, and you can see traditional wind towers constructed from stone and palm wood, as well as cultural centres and museums dedicated to telling the story of the place. The textile souk (market) is nearby, and it's possible to cross the Dubai Creek on an abra, a small motorised water taxi for a view of the bustling creek and a ride to Deira, where you can explore the spice and gold souks.

ENJOY SOME GOOD FOOD
If you're a foodie, you'll be truly spoilt for choice in the UAE as it's possible to taste flavours from all over the world in this global hub. In the Time Out Dubai Restaurant Awards 2021, in association with the Dubai Food Festival, an authentic Turkish spot called Sultan Saray (top left) came out on top of the MENA category. The homely restaurant just off Sheik Zayed Road serves up a variety of mezze, kebabs and desserts. Al Fanar Seafood Market also proved a firm favourite — the traditional Emirati restaurant offers authentic food that showcases the UAE's history, including sea bass machboos and classic dessert luqaimat, a sweet Arabic dumpling.
VISIT THE DUBAI EXPO
The Dubai Expo was originally scheduled to run in 2020 but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately, the event was able to go ahead in 2021 and will continue until the end of March 2022. There is so much to see at the expo in terms of architecture, design and technology — the theme of the event is "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future", emphasising finding creative and sustainable solutions to the world's social, economic and environmental issues. Some of the highlights include the Women's Pavilion in collaboration with Cartier, which highlights women's impact and contributions to the world; The Future of Food: Epochal Banquet, which is an immersive dining experience created by UK design studio Bompas & Parr and explores how AI will affect the future of dining; and Chimera, a permanent sculpture by Kuwaiti artist Monira Al Qadiri, which is shaped like an oil drill and designed to merge the pre- and post-oil eras into one body and reimagine the past, present and future for the Gulf region.

d BY VANN VAN STADEN PHOTOGRAPHY: TIMOTHY THRONE SAY WHAT YOU want about the American automotive giant Ford, but don’t ever say they don’t strive to thrill. They recently gifted us with one of the most track-focused Mustangs ever produced, the Mach 1. This pony plays homage to the much-loved and respected maiden model, the 1969 Mach 1.
TAKE ME TO THE TRACKS
Ford’s popular 5.0 litre, naturally aspirated V8 petrol engine delivers 338 kW and 529 Nm of torque to the Mach 1 but with some noticeable performance tweaks that enhance its track-readiness. We got to play with and experience the 10-speed auto transmission; however, a 6-speed manual version is also available. Like all Mustangs, the Mach 1 is rear-wheel driven, so all of the power generated by the engine is diverted towards the rear wheels, which then catapults the car forward. This leaves the front wheels free to manoeuvre the car, resulting in a thrilling and top track-ready driving experience.
Rumour has it that 2022 will bring the 7th generation Mustang S650 coming out in all-wheel-drive, but for now, we’ll lap up the rear-wheel drive.
LOOKING THE PART
From a design point of view, the “Stang” has the everfamiliar Mustang feel, no surprises there, but with a few orange trimmings and stitching in the cabin to remind you that you’re riding around in the unique Mach 1. The same orange colour is used for the double racing stripes on the exterior that stretch from the bonnet over the roof to the tail.
SOLD OUT
As impressive as the Mach 1 is, you’ll, unfortunately, have to wait to find a second-hand one if you’re desperate to get your hands on one. All of the 90 models that were allocated to South Africa have been sold. They came in at a price tag of R1 182 100 for the 6-speed manual and R1 203 800 for the 10-speed auto.

THE EPITOME OF brains and brawn cohabiting the same sleek and sophisticated body, the Jaguar F-Pace has managed to take everything the brand stands for and package it into a form that towers over the rest of the Jag family, making it the BFG, the “big friendly giant” of the brood. When the British firm first launched the F-Pace in 2016, it sent shockwaves throughout the industry. A Jag SUV? We didn’t think we would see that day, but here we are, years later, and it’s Jaguar’s best-selling car globally.
THE YEAR OF THE OX
2021 is the year of the ox in Chinese astrology, which symbolizes prosperity and incredible physical, emotional, and mental strength and stamina, a powerful guiding totem for the new 2021 F-Pace. The elegant interior is the epitome of prosperity: the plush leather seats complement leather trimming on the dash and an incredibly soft padded steering wheel. The cabin also boasts an 11.4-inch Pivi Pro Infotainment system, the design of which has been inspired by a high-end tablet. And then additional finishes such as chrome-like housing around the ventilation dials lends a more modern, luxurious finish to the interior.
POWER AND STABILITY
And then there’s the F-Pace’s strength and stamina. With super stability and a powerful 2.0 litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine, it roars to life, kicking out 147 kW and 430 Nm of torque, with endless opportunities on its horizon. The all-wheeldrive F-Pace also handles like a dream on the road, its responsive yet weighted steering wheel allowing you to feel in control no matter the terrain.
DESIGNED TO IMPRESS
The exterior has seen noticeable changes, with the most notable being the reshaped bonnet, the larger grille housing “diamond” detailing and redesigned and refreshed air intakes for the front bumper. Narrow LED headlamps with double J-shaped daytime-running lights are also new and intriguing features on the 2021 F-Pace. And at the rear, the bumper has been redesigned to give this SUV a more formidable stance and presence. Power and elegance; prosperity and stamina; size and sleekness, the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace truly embraces the symbolism of its year of birth. Pricing starts from R1 122 500, and all models come standard with a 5-year/100 000 km warranty and a 5-year/100 000 km service plan.
