Basketball group supports Bridge LEAMINGTON — HighRise Basketball — through this year’s ‘Hoopin’ Around the Clock’ fundraising event — recently donated $8,000 to support The Bridge Youth Resource Centre. Tivy, Verna Grace (nee MacGregor) A resident of Toronto and formerly of Leamington, Verna Tivy passed away peacefully at her residence in Toronto on December 10, 2020 at the age of 102. She was born in Uxbridge, Ontario on September 8, 1918 and was the eldest of 6 children to John and Nellie MacGregor. She is predeceased by her husband Louis Tivy (1972). She is survived by, and will be dearly missed by her youngest sister Marjorie Neil. Verna grew up in Blind River Ontario she eventually moved to Toronto where she studied to become a teacher and met her husband Louis. She taught in Eley, Cochrane and Copper Cliff before settling with her husband in Leamington. In her retirement years Verna spent 26 winters in St. Petersburg, Florida and loved spending her summers at her cottage on Manitoulin Island at Lake Kagawong. In keeping with Verna’s wishes, cremation has taken place. She will be laid to rest with her dear husband at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Leamington at a later date. After raising her only child, Stacey, in Leamington, Ontario, Kathy found love with Tom and moved to Palm Desert, California. There she lived a happy life, enjoying the beautiful weather and a large group of friends. On warm days she could often be found by the pool with her dogs, Harley and Molly. Kathy was known for having a no-nonsense attitude, a ridiculous sneeze, and gorgeous blue eyes. But most importantly, she was known for always reaching out to friends and family offering her love, support, and encouragement. She will be forever missed by those who knew her. Due to restrictions on gatherings and travel, no funeral service will be held at this time.

Passed away on December 6, 2020 at the age of 58. Predeceased by his parents, Ruth and Edward Travene. Dear brother of Diane Warkentin (Ralph) and Joanne Veltman (Al). Uncle of Wendy Smeaton ( John), Nick Warkentin (Amy), Ryan Veltman (Stirling), Tyler Veltman (Vanessa) and great uncle of Finnley and Cooper Warkentin and Grayson Smeaton. Doug was a longtime small engine mechanic for Dixie Lawn and Cycle. He will also be sadly missed by his coffee buddy Jim Bishop. A special thank you to Dr. Craig Meloche, Dr. Goel, Dr. Mathews and Dr. Springer for their care given to Doug. Memorial donations may be made to the Erie Shores Hospice.
