LEGION HELPS COMMUNITY CHEST SANTA TOURS WHEATLEY STREETS WHEATLEY — It’s unknown if Santa and Mrs. Claus were just out for a joy ride, or if they were plotting out their delivery route for Christmas Eve, but they were spotted spreading cheer along the streets of Wheatley on Friday, December 11. The mini-parade was set up by a number of active citizens of Wheatley, who thought the town could use some holiday cheer. Volunteers included Lisa Derbyshire, Kim Simard-Grubb, Wendy, Jeff and Brett Bowman, Kelsey Almasi, Deb Culley, Tracy Loop, Mitchell Prudence, Lauren Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Claus. The Wheatley BIA stepped up with the sound system and many others had a hand in making this happen behind the scenes. Sun photo

Bake Sale on Saturday, Branch now closed again Terry Church did a fine job of running the Meat Draws on Saturday. All draws were for 5 -7 kg turkeys and the winners were Julie Reid 2, Gerald Rivait, Joyce Epplett, Darlene Stokes, Doug Miller, June Epplett, Jan Watson, Terry Church, Mike Simpson and Dick Whittle. Shelley Guyitt won the 50/50 draw. Our campaign for our local Community Chest ended on Saturday. Due to COVID, the toys, gifts, food and financial donations were down somewhat from years before; however, we express thanks to all those who contributed to this campaign so that those less fortunate can enjoy a merrier Christmas. The Ladies Auxiliary will hold their Bake Sale, as planned, this Saturday De-

Jan Watson cember 19 starting at 10 a.m. Drop in to stock up on your Christmas baking! We regret that, due to the large number of COVID cases in Essex County, we have decided to close the Branch again (except for this Saturday’s bake sale). By doing so, we hope to keep the spread of this virus down among our members and friends in our community. That said, I wish to extend the best of the Christmas season to my readers. Be safe!
