Gin o’clock
by Sarah Smith
The gin and tonic is one of Britain’s favourite drinks and also one of the most simple. Just a few ingredients, gin of your choice, my preferred gin is Bombay Sapphire served with Schweppes slimline tonic, lemon, lime, cucumber and ice, make for sipping perfection.
taste in those days was bitter and harsh. Brits soon found that the addition of gin, sugar, ice, and citrus was the perfect way to temper the bitterness and make the cure palatable. And as a bonus, the inclusion of limes prevented scurvy.
You might be surprised to learn, then, that gin and tonic has a long and complex history, filled with intrigue, that belies its simple combination.
These days tonic water is much tastier, with smaller doses of quinine and more sweetening agents, but the gin and tonic is no less popular. Though we may quibble over the finer details (how much ice to use, lemon versus lime versus cucumber, proper ratios), we can all agree: the timeless gin and tonic really does cure all ills. Except hangovers, that is.
Gin was claimed by many to have been invented in the 16th century in Leiden, Holland by Dr. Sylvius de Bouve, and was originally prescribed as medical treatment, thought to aid circulation. It gradually made its way to the UK, where, due in part to its low cost, it became the drink of choice. By 1750 over 11 million gallons were being consumed by Londoners annually. Eventually, a series of laws curbed the spirit’s ubiquity, and by the mid-19th century gin came to be considered a gentleman’s drink. In 1857 the British Crown took over the governance of India, and more Brits began to make their way to the Indian subcontinent and other warm-weather climes. However, early immigrants struggled with the ravages of malaria in the tropical climate (not to mention scurvy during the long sea journeys). What serendipitous cure was able to ward off both of those illnesses? The gin and tonic. Back in the day, tonic water was infused heavily with quinine, an extract from the South American cinchona tree. Known among the indigenous population as the “fever tree” because its bark was able to stop chills, cinchona bark was first brought to Europe in the 1640s when it was shown to cure and prevent malaria. Tonic water thus became an essential part of Britain’s colonialism, though its

Beefeater, Tanqueray, Bombay Sapphire—they’re all London Dry. This gin style is drier than some of the older types and features a balanced bouquet of juniper and citrus. Gins local to Spain – Larios ginebra mediterranea, known as the best selling gin in Spain, the Botanicals used include juniper, coriander and orange peel. Another of my favourites, very enjoyable served in a balloon glass and accompanied with fresh lime, lemon and tonic water. Larios 12 and Larios Rose also worth trying. Why not even try the very local brand of gin to come out of Turre called Portomagno. Gin Portomagno is made by a family company from Andalusia, Almeria, who have put all their know-how from traditional recipes into this extraordinary product. Portomagno stands for the ancient Roman name of Almeria - also known as the only region in Europe where a desert can be found. Literally from oasis springs of this desert originates the water used for the distillation. Gin Portomagno turns out to be an innovative and pioneering product, known for a careful and excellent selection of ingredients. The Botanics used also come from the desert and thus close the circle of this unique drink.

MOLLY’S
GAME The true story of Molly Bloom, a beautiful, young, Olympic-class skier who ran the world’s most exclusive high-stakes poker game for a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by 17 FBI agents wielding automatic weapons. Her players included Hollywood royalty, sports stars, business titans and finally, unbeknown to her, the Russian mob. Her only ally was her criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey, who learned there was much more to Molly than the tabloids led people to believe. Based upon the memoir “Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker” by Molly Bloom. It stars a packed cast including Jessica Chastain as Bloom, along with Idris Elba, Kevin Costner, Michael Cera, Brian d’Arcy James, Chris O’Dowd, Bill Camp, Graham Greene, Claire Rankin, Joe Keery and Jeremy Strong.
8
The film, written and directed by Aaron Sorkin in his directorial debut, premiered on September 8, 2017 at the Toronto International Film Festival. It will also be the closing film at AFI Fest on November 16th, 2017. It is scheduled for limited release in the United States on December 25th, 2017, before going wide on January 5th, 2018. Peter Debruge of Variety praised the script saying “...Molly’s Game delivers one of the screen’s great female parts — a dense, dynamic, compulsively entertaining affair, whose central role makes stunning use of Chastain’s stratospheric talent.” Mike Ryan of Uproxx gave the film 9/10, writing, “Molly’s Game is a perfect story for Sorkin. There’s poker, the Russian mafia, the Italian mafia, celebrities, and sports. The only thing missing for Sorkin’s wheelhouse is President Bartlet. And at over two hours long, the film still feels tight and never fails to entertain.”

ITV Sticker Colours & Placement
The stickers used to indicate the validity of the ITV inspection, the Inspección Técnica de Vehículos, are colour coded on a three-colour cycle of green, yellow and red.
The sticker is self-adhesive, designed to stick on the glass of the windscreen, but where a vehicle doesn’t have a windscreen, it must be placed in a clearly visible place.
So long as the vehicle is displaying only one sticker in the required place, the upper right hand side of the windscreen as you look out, traffic and police officers carrying out roadside checks can have a clear idea instantly, from afar, if the vehicle is displaying a valid sticker.
As well as the sticker, the ITV report is one of the mandatory documents which must be carried in the vehicle. In the event of the technician requiring repairs to be carried out, they must have been completed within the time indicated.
Known as the V-19, “DISTINTIVO DE INSPECCIÓN TÉCNICA PERIÓDICA DEL VEHÍCULO”, the sticker indicates that the vehicle has favourably passed the periodic technical inspection and the date when the next inspection is due.
valid until 2016
valid until 2017
valid until 2018
valid until 2019
valid until 2020
valid until 2021
The 3 colour cycle for the coming years. If your ITV test is this year (2018) then your sticker should be green when your vehicle passes (valid until 2019). 1: Valid until “Month” (stamped out) 2: ITV logo (always in blue) 3: Valid Until “Year” (in this instance 2011) 4: ITV Station identifier (stamped out) 5. Identity & sheild or autonomous community/region
Remember, you must only display one ITV sticker at a time, not collecting them every year, only the one which indicates that the current inspection is valid and any more on your screen will cause confusion and will cause the police to not clearly see you have a valid ITV.

Things to do... Places to see.
Águilas It is at the southernmost point of the Murcia region, bordering Andalusia. Águilas will captivate you with its beaches, history and Mediterranean charm.
The town of Águilas *which translates to “Eagles” stands on a coastal area of around 35 km, under the watchful eye of its beautiful castle of San Juan de las Águilas and on the southern-most tip of the Murcia region. This municipality has been inhabited since the Palaeolithic age, and many other cultures, including the Argaric, Phoenician, Roman and Moslem people, have left traces here. Of particular interest are the Roman remains, especially the Roman baths, which date from the 1st to 4th century. As a modern town, Águilas was born of the enlightened thought of Charles III and his ministers Aranda and Floridablanca, who sought a port for the export of the agricultural products of the river plain of Lorca, and Águilas was the natural departure point for the entire region.
The new town, with its rectilinear layout, became a commercial center on the up, reaching its zenith in the 19th century with exploitations of silver, lead and iron and the construction of the railway line and the pier of El Hornillo by British companies. Nowadays, Águilas conserves its seafaring tradition and its deep-rooted vocation as a tourist resort. Of the town’s monuments, the Town Hall is of particular interest; it is a neo-Mudejar building from the 19th century, located in the Plaza de España, with age-old gardens and an old fountain dominated by a swan, popularly known as “the turkey on the pond”. The square is surrounded by a few Modernist buildings, the 19th-century church of San José, which contains the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows, who is the patron saint of the town. The historical quarter still has the environment of the seafaring quarters, dedicated to

Don’t miss the amazing spectacle that is the carnival. With activities starting on the 3rd of February and going all the way up to the main parades on the 11th, 12th,13th,16th & 17th it really is something to behold. visist www.carnavaldeaguilas.org for more info. fishing, and is crowned by the castle-fortress of San Juan de Águilas. This tower-fortress was built around 1579 for defence purposes and was later rebuilt in the 18th century. In the Paseo de Parra, there is a monument to the railway, proof of the importance this means of transport once had for the population. Besides its wealth of monuments and archaeology, Águilas has a coastline with many points of interest. Thirty-five coves, rocky promontories (headlands) that stretch into the sea and numerous beaches of fine sand. The coves of Playa de Calarreona, Playa la Calabardina, Playa de Calacerrada , Playa del Arroz, Playa del Hornillo, are places where the protagonist is the countryside, still untouched in places. Indeed, the town has two protected natural areas: the Regional Park of Cabo Cope and the Protected Countryside of Las Cuatro Calas.
Culture Must-see places in Águilas are the Archaeological Museum, the Roman Baths, the Football Museum, the Casino and San José Church. The Auditorium and Conference Hall has become a tourist reference because of its original, beautiful design and its quality exhibitions and cultural activities, mostly related to theatre and music. The Plaza de España square, also known as La Glorieta, is the town’s hub of activity, where eight streets converge since the urban planning by King Charles III. Enjoy its gardens with sculptures and hundred-year rubber plants, its art nouveau buildings, and the Town Hall’s Neomudejar facade. At the centre of the square is a fountain called La Pava de la Balsa. Another way of getting to know the most interesting spots of Águilas is getting in a train coach in order to enjoy the Ruta del Ferrocarril (Railway Route) which is held on the third Sunday of each month. The route includes the Paseo Marítimo (Seafront), the Sendero del Hornillo (Path of the Hornillo), and the Museo del Ferrocarril (Railway Museum).
The very centre of the town has beaches too, such as that of Las Delicias. And nearby, opposite the breakwater of El Hornillo, lies the Isle of El Fraile, a small island covered with rocky slope sea bottoms and seaweed colonies for the special enjoyment of divers. These are joined by the interesting sea bottoms at the foot of the Crag of Cabo Cope. East of Águilas, in the municipality of Lorca, is a coastal area of enormous interest, where we find Puntas de Calnegre literally Blacklime Points, so-called after the dark colour of the rocks. Together with Cabo Cope, Puntas de Calnegre has been a Regional Park since 1992. This is one of the least frequented areas of the coast, with clean, sandy beaches and crystalline waters. The Points end at the sea in high cliffs, between which lie the beautiful coves of Baño de las Mujeres, Siscal and Cala Honda.

Molly’s Game by Molly Bloom
Bringing Down the House: How Six Students Took Vegas for Millions By Ben Mezrich
Ghosts at the Table: The amazing story of Poker... By Des Wilson
When Molly Bloom was a little girl growing up in a small Colorado town, she watched her brothers win medals, ace tests, and receive high praise from everyone they met. Molly wanted nothing more than to bask in that glow a little herself, so she pushed herself too—as a student & as an athlete.
Real life all too rarely offers stories that are quite as satisfying as fiction. Bringing Down the House is one of the exceptions: a reallife action thriller oozing with money, sex and some extremely dodgy dealing...
Destined to become the most widely debated poker book ever, Ghosts at the Table is the definitive history of the game, compellingly told as a detective story.
Cheating in casinos is illegal; card-counting - making a record of what cards have so far been dealt to enable the player to make some prediction of what cards remain in the deck - is not. But casinos understandably dislike the practice and make every effort to keep card-counters out of their premises. Bringing Down the House tells the true story of the most successful financial scam ever, in which teams of brilliant young mathematicians and physicists won millions of dollars from the casinos and blackjack tables of Las Vegas, in the process getting drawn into the high life of drugs, sex and spending big.
In Molly’s Game, Molly Bloom takes the reader through her adventures running an exclusive high-stakes private poker game. Her clients ranged from iconic stars like Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck to politicians and financial titans so powerful they moved markets and changed the course of history. With rich detail, Molly describes a world that until now has been shrouded in glamour, privilege, and secrecy, one where she fearlessly took on the Russian and Italian mobs—until she met the one adversary she could not outsmart, even though she had justice on her side: the United States government. Bringing Down the House is as readable and as fascinating as Liar’s Poker or Barbarians At Molly’s Game is an incredible coming-of- the Gate, an insight into a closed, excessive age story about a young girl who rejected and utterly corrupt world of gambling in Las convention in pursuit of her version of the Vegas. American dream.
Des Wilson traces poker’s development in the Old West during the nineteenth century, into the twentieth century and also he examines the popularity of poker in the twenty-first century and uncovers some amazing highstakes games being played in Las Vegas. He investigates the infamous World Series confrontations, questions the credibility of poker’s Hall of Fame and reveals the shocking truth about Benny Binion, founder of the World Series of Poker. Full of unforgettable characters, great confrontations, mysteries and myths, Ghosts at the Table is a gripping account of the history of the game that will intrigue fans and novices alike.

Cleansing Foods to Naturally Detox Your Body
See which foods will power your liver, and why. You don’t have to be on a cleanse to incorporate foods in your daily menu that will detox your body and cleanse your liver. These foods will give your liver a helping hand so that it works at peak efficiency all the time to keep you clean from the inside out. These articles are to be used as a guide or reference only. Ultimate Magazine has gathered this information from internet sources and therefore can not be held responsible for any misdiagnosis of symptoms or medical complications from a change of diet or injury from exercise. Always consult your doctor or a health official for your own personal requirements or with any queries relating to this article.

Do your best to eat some of these foods each day. If you do, you are giving your body a daily cleaning service. You’ve worked hard to reduce your toxic load. Now it’s your job to stay clean. It’s easy if you do a little every day to tidy up. You need to support your body in doing what it does naturally.
Munch on these foods to naturally clean and detox your body, every single day.
1. Apples The fibre pectin helps detox metals and food additives that have accumulated in your body over the years, so the old adage, “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” comes right back into play.
12. Cauliflower As the other major cruciferous vegetable, cauliflower aids in the production of enzymes that flush out toxins and carcinogens, making it also a powerful disease-fighting food.
2. Artichokes Artichokes naturally increase bile production and are loaded with vitamins C and K, antioxidants, and nearly 10 grams of fiber in just one unit, so if you haven’t hopped aboard the artichoke train yet, this is a reason to start.
13. Fennel Fennel protects the liver from harmful chemicals, so energize your body’s commanding organ by adding the veggie to your dinner.
3. Asparagus Apart from being one of the best stress-reducing foods and a great way to prevent a hangover, asparagus is also a a natural diuretic that helps with liver drainage. 4. Avocados Avocados are having a moment right now. Sure, you eat them as guacamole, or throw a few slices on your breakfast toast, but the heathly-fat fruit is actually also a detox superstar. Avocados contain glutathione, which helps the liver detoxify synthetic chemicals, helping to rid your body of the unwanted toxins.
14. Flaxseeds Not only do flaxseeds boost your mood, but when ground, these tiny seeds provide fiber that helps to bind and flush out toxins from the intestinal tract. Better yet, flax fiber suppresses appetite and helps support weight loss. 15. Garlic Because it’s loaded with sulfur, it’s quite simple to supercharge the healing power of garlic. 16. Ginger This distinct root spikes your metabolism, helps to flush out waste, and supports liver functions all day long.
5. Basil As an herb, basil helps the metabolic breakdown and elimination of chemicals in the blood, and can give your salads (and even pizza) a refreshing after-taste you didn’t know you were missing.
17. Kale This leafy green has been on the rise in recent years, and it’s for good reason. Kale provides comprehensive support for the entire detoxification system. That’s right: the whole system.
6. Beets The red vegetable contains a mix of phytochemicals and minerals that makes it a great blood purifier and liver cleanser. The superfoods are known as one of the best vegetables that boost athletic performance, and can help you better perform in high-intensity interval workouts.
18. Lemons The citrus fruit helps to convert toxins into a water-soluble form that can be easily excreted from the body, literally flushing the unwanted substances from your body.
7. Brazil nuts Packed with selenium, which is vital in flushing mercury from your body, Brazil nuts contrain a balance of sodium, calcium, potassium, and magnesium, which will work wonders for your blood pressure and heart health. 8. Broccoli Not only does broccoli increase glutathione, which helps the liver transform toxins into a form that can be easily eliminated, and science has even linked the cruciferous vegetable to longer life. 9. Brussels sprouts High in sulphur, so they helps to remove toxins from the blood, Brussels sprouts are high in indole-3-carbinol, sulphoraphane, and antioxidants, and have even been proven to be great cancer fighters. 10. Cabbage Much like Brussels sprouts, cabbage also contains sulfur and stimulates the activation of two crucial liver detoxifying enzymes. 11. Carrots Because they’re rich in glutathione, carrots are one of the most powerfully detoxing vegetables. As a bonus, they’re loaded with beta-carotenes and vitamin A, and have cardiovascular benefits, and help improve immune function.
19. Onions Onions are packed with sulfur-containing amino acids that detox the liver, taking some of the burden off that hardworking organ, and bringing many more benefits to your overall health. 24. Parsley This diuretic herb keeps your plumbing system running smoothly, helping to excrete toxins, if you know what we mean. And don’t just keep it for yourself. Parsley is one of the dog-approved healing herbs, so feed some to Fido, too. 25. Pineapples This summer favorite contains bromelain, a digestive enzyme that helps to cleanse your colon, so don’t hold back when it comes to including pineapple in your diet. As a bonus, this popular fruit even has more vitamin C than oranges, so keep your immune system running strong with pineapple. 26. Spinach Popeye was onto something here! This popular green, especially when raw, has a heavy dose of glutathione, which will help give your body a much-needed antioxidant boost. 28. Walnuts Not only are walnuts a brain-helping food, but they hold high levels of acid arginine, which aids the liver in detoxifying ammonia, as well as glutathione. 23
05 “I think if you don’t love people and aren’t fascinated by them, you’ll never succeed as a portrait photographer, because your pictures will look cold.” Rankin
PHOTOGRAPHERSOFINFLUENCE Rankin
by Dean Baker
Rankin (John Rankin Waddell), is a British portrait and fashion photographer whom for me, epitomizes modern day photography and culture. Over the last year this article has given me the chance to share with you those photographers that have contributed to my learning and understanding of the medium from my earlier years of study but Rankin had only become known to me much later on but still provides inspiration. After studying photography in Luton and then graduating from LCP (London College of Printing), Rankin and his fellow student & colleague Jefferson Hack, started the magazine “Dazed & Confused” (fig1) back in 1992. In December 2000, Rankin launched his own quarterly fashion magazine, “Rank”. He also publishes “Another Magazine, Another Man” and more recently “Hunger” (fig3), biannual fashion and lifestyle magazine and website. He has since appeared several times in documentaries and shows on television, most notable for me was his hour long BBC 4 documentary titled “Seven Photographs that Changed Fashion” in which he recreates the 7 iconic photos himself, using contemporary techniques and models. His portrait work in particular, for me, exudes the character and emotion of his subjects, not only through his often great use of minimalistic colour (or lack of it) but in the way

he composes each shot. From close-ups to wide full-body poses, each seems to portray so much movement, energy, poise and personality I really feel connected to the subjects as if I know them almost intimately, something in particular that I don’t often feel from other portrait photographers. His fashion photography and other projects, including film work, can all be seen online at his website www.rankin.co.uk or through one of his many books or publications and you might find that you have unwittingly been exposed to his work without knowing. For example the James Bond movie poster for “Spectre” (fig2) featuring Daniel Craig or his various advertising projects including Nike, BMW and Samsonite or mybe you’ve been to an exhibition of his? The most recent of prominent photography exhibitions that I have been to was his “Rankin Live” exhibition at the Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane in London, back in 2009. I had the great pleasure of not only seeing him work (he had a “live” shoot taking place which we could watch) but I also got to meet him, albeit very briefly, with a handshake and a quick hello. If you’ve ever been to such a large, solo exhibition, you would probably understand that I was blown away by the work on show. I hadn’t realised that I had seen many of his pictures before and had never attributed them to him but I was also surprised by the shear scale of some of the exhibits with many prints being around 4 or 5 feet square, if not bigger!

FOOD GLORIOUS
FOOD SPANISH CHICKEN WITH CHORIZO & POTATOES As much as you love to have a pan bubbling away on the stove, people often feel that the most stress free way to feed people is by taking the oven route. When frazzled, you’ll firmly believe that the tray-bake is the safest way to go. Enjoy the easefulness of the oven: you just bung everything in, and you’re done. You may want to go to the supreme effort of laying on a green salad as well but, other than that, you may kick up your flamenco heels and enjoy the fiesta!

Ingredients • 2 tablespoons olive oil • 12 chicken thighs with skin and bone still on • 750g chorizo (cut into 4cm / 1½ inch chunks) • 1 kilogram new potatoes (halved) • 2 red onions (peeled and roughly chopped) • 2 teaspoons dried oregano • grated zest of 1 orange
method 1. Preheat the oven to 220°C/gas mark 7/425ºF. Put the oil in the bottom of 2 shallow roasting tins, 1 tablespoon in each. Sprinkle the onion and the oregano over, then grate the orange zest over the contents of the 2 tins. 3. Virtually on our doorstep and beyond. The Cabo de Gata natural park.
Andalucia’s largest coastal protected area covers an area of 34,000 hectares, a wild and isolated landscape. The name Cabo de Gata comes from the mineral Agate that was mined here in the past. High rugged cliffs plunging into clear blue waters with extensive coral reefs teaming with marine life makes this coastline a snorkelling heaven. Thousands of migrating birds travelling between Europe and Africa touch down amid the dunes where Flamingos, Herons, Cranes, Oyster-catchers and many more varieties can be seen, so also a dream location for bird watchers, hikers and nature lovers alike. The highest peak of the Sierra del Cabo de Gata, El Fraile, is Spain’s largest volcanic rock formation falling 100 meters to the Mediterranean Sea, where you will find hidden coves and white sandy beaches. At the information centre at Las Amoladeras you will find an exhibition explaining the history and physical make-up of the area alongside local craft-work, oils and wine for sale. Visit the beautiful Moorish white village of Nijar with it’s many arts and crafts such as pottery, hand-made jewellery, leather goods, woven baskets and hats made from Esparto grass. Or perhaps drop into San Jose a picturesque little fishing port with excellent Tapas bars. How many of us, when we think of Almeria, think only of the nearest airport from which we can visit friends and family or where we had to go to queue to get our ‘residencia’. When in fact there is something there to interest everyone.
42
A must-see, The Alcazaba of Almeria can be seen from all parts of the city and is the biggest Fortification built by the Arabs. Various films have used this location including Conan the Barbarian, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade and Never Say Never Again. From the top of the castle walls you can enjoy magnificent views of the city and port. entrance is free but you must check the opening hours as these depend on the time of year. Continuing along the southern untamed Mediterranean coast of Almeria you will see the unusual landscape change from a desert like area to vast spaces covered in plastic under which copious amounts of fruit and vegetables are grown for both the local and export market. Watchtowers set along this coast are a sign of this area’s historical importance. Follow the rugged coastline towards Aguadulce, a small resort town, before reaching the flatlands of Roquetas de Mar with 15 kilometres of coastline to explore. Located in the port is the Michelin star restaurant Alejandro’s with it’s two enticing tasting menus. Many sports such as Golf, Tennis, Sailing and Windsurfing can be enjoyed during your journey. Then you arrive at Motril where you can indulge in many local fish dishes. Here you have a dilemma, do you carry on along the coast towards Malaga and Gibraltar or turn right through the Alpujarras and onto Granada. We will have to wait until next time to see where the road will take us.
Good travelling wherever you go.

THEGOLFPAGES By Tony Myles ...your regular insight into Spain’s best and most played golf courses, world tournaments and news.
Swing Tips from the PGA
6-10 of the best golf swing tips (continuing from last edition) as recommended by PGA professionals.
6. Solid Plane = No Slice
An open face at the point of contact can cause a slice. So, too, can a faulty swing path, even if your club face is square to the target at impact. Slicers’ swing paths tend to come too much outside in (hookers, vice versa). All golfers need a path that comes just slightly from the inside. Try the Box Drill. Take the top half of a golf ball box and stand it on its side. Align the box parallel to your target line as shown. Strive to groove a path that allows the shaft to pass just over the box. For slicers, set up the box on the same line, but just forward of the golf ball. Don’t hit the box!
7. Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down
Hookers need to stop the club face from closing too soon. To do this, adopt a thumbs-down approach to impact. In the photos at right, you clearly can see the red side of the paddle with both my thumbs pointing down toward the ground. This type of movement slows the closing of your club face, thus eliminating shots that curve to the left. In the second photo, the blue side of the paddle shows. This thumbs-up position is what slicers need to attain (a closing of the club face).
8. No Flips
“Flippiness” (the dreaded early release) occurs if your body gets too far in front of the golf ball. When this happens, your club will drastically lag, usually with an open face. Instinctively, your hands will work to close the face at impact. This level of timing is difficult even for the pros to execute on a consistent basis. What usually happens is the club head races in front of the shaft and strikes the ball with an open or a closed face, and typically on an ascending arc. In baseball, if you get too far in front, you’ll hit the ball to right field, unless you flip the wrists. The same is true in golf. You need to establish a firm left side to keep your head behind the ball and stop the flip. Enemy number one: Your body is out of position or out of balance. Your body senses this, so your hands take over to try to get the club face squared at impact. However, this adjustment usually takes the form of a flick or flip of the wrists. Fixing The Flip: Set up to an impact bag (or an old duffel bag stuffed with towels),
push the clubhead into the bag and set your body into a good impact position. The lead arm and shaft should form one straight, vertical line with the head back. Make sure your lead leg is braced and that your hips are turned slightly open. Hold this position to create the proper feel.
9. Chipping
Although it’s tempting to hit chips indoors, all it takes is one broken lamp to realize that golf is an outdoor activity. Nevertheless, you can improve your chipping technique within the friendly confines of your own living room with the help of a wooden dowel or broken golf shaft. Take the dowel and place it through the hole on the top of the grip on a pitching wedge. Push the dowel roughly eight to 12 inches down the butt end of the shaft (a little Vaseline may help the dowel slide easier through the club shaft). Two to three feet of the dowel should extend outward from the top of the grip. Now, practice your chipping motion, making sure that your left wrist remains rigid as the club face passes through the impact zone. If your left wrist breaks down (a flaw that can cause a lot of short-game misery), you’ll feel the protruding portion of the dowel hit against your left side. In addition to guarding against wrist breakdown, the dowel will also help you to establish the proper hands-forward position at address—a crucial factor for clean contact. The dowel also will force you to keep your hands moving forward and swing the club down the target line in the follow through. Once you master this drill, you’ll be able to get up and down with the best of them.
10. Stay In Your K
Even good golfers with sound, grooved swings come untracked now and then, especially if they lose the flex in the back leg trying for distance. If you stiffen your back leg during the back swing, your body will likely tilt out of balance, making it tough to re-flex the knee just the right amount in time for impact. If you can play some great golf, but consistency is your problem, it might be that you need a dose of Special K.
More on the Special K technique in our next edition!

ISLE
Ibiza is known as a party spot for the young energetic nightclubbers. But there is also lots of beautiful parts to this wonderful island. Here we give a small insite of things to do for all ages.
GETTING THERE
To get to the island from this part of Spain is fairly simple either by Ferry from Denia a 3 hour drive from Vera or Mojacar, you can either go as a car or foot passenger. There are numerous ferry crossings operating from Spain to Ibiza. Ferries currently connect 4 ports in Spain with 3 ports in Ibiza. Non stop flights run from Malaga with either Vueling or Ryanair. However if you don´t mind a stop via Madrid you can fly from Almeria. Alicante flys direct with Iberia with flights starting from around 70€ in April.
About Ibiza
Ibiza is part of the Balearic Islands, an autonomous region of Spain sprawled along the mainland’s east coast in the Mediterranean Sea. Around six million revellers flock to Ibiza for its world famous clubs and epic beach parties every year, but its humble population, roughly one hundred and thirty thousand, is always keen to show off the island’s quieter side, encompassing beautiful backcountry, historic towns and secluded coves along the north coast. Outside the high-season, the Ibizan calendar brims with fun festivities like the Autumn Food Festival and various patron saint celebrations during winter, made even more enjoyable with the year-round, pleasant climate. If you’re on the east coast of Spain, travelling to Ibiza by ferry is the easiest way to get there, with frequent routes from big cities including Barcelona and Valencia. Sailing within the Balearics is easy, too, with a choice of crossings from Mallorca and Formentera. 50
A very important part of the Ibiza club scene are the many music bars around the island, where clubbers go to warm-up for their coming nights out or to listen to music and dance in a more relaxed atmosphere. Most of these bars have free entry and cheaper drinks than the clubs (not that much cheaper in some cases), but still have great local or big name international guest DJs playing. You only need 20 or 30 people to create a really great atmosphere, and these are often the scene for many a legendary night out. Many of the beach parties will start in early afternoon and really get going from 5 or 6pm until midnight. The other bars will start getting busy after midnight and will run until early morning. For the real Ibiza evening chill experience, check out the sunset cafés, including the famous Café del Mar and other famous bars such as Café Mambo, KM5, Rio Ibiza, Dunes, Ibiza Rock Bars and then you have the beach clubs, Nikki Beach, Cotton Beach Club, Sir Rocco, Tannit Beach plus many others. The White Isle is full of different beach clubs and restaurants that come in various shapes and forms. Some are sleek and suave, while others are more rustic and homey. No matter what it is you like, you can guarantee that there will be something to accomodate your tastes. From small and quirky to large upscale to hippy inspired chic to service-led, we’ve selected some of the best beach venues in
which to soak up the inimitable atmosphere of Ibiza. Whatever you’re looking for from a beach club or restaurant, we’re sure you’ll find it here.
Sunset Ashram, Cala Conta
Definitely one of the best places to see the sunset in Ibiza, though do book ahead as it’s a popular location; food is self-service by day and there’s table service by night. A good time to go is early evening when the DJs start playing and before the reserved tables fill up so you can sneak in and soak in the late sun and sanctify your soul. For thousands of families each year, Ibiza becomes their own holiday paradise – a beautiful place to enjoy the warm weather, safe bathing and many attractions for kids of all ages such as parasailing, water parks, family friendly hotels and beaches such as Cala Bassa, Cala Tarida and Las Salinas Beach.
On top of all that, the majority of venues also have separate VIP entrances, so you’ll be ushered in past the queues like a fullyfledged member of the A-List. It doesn’t get better than that. For example world reknown Pacha has top Dj’s, VIP passes and a brilliant night out.
FOOD
Boat parties have become an important pillar of the Ibiza clubbing scene and no Ibiza holiday is complete without having experienced at least one party out at sea. Over the past few years, the boat party market has risen considerably and each brand presents their own concept, music genre and route.
GO IN STYLE
If you are a real party goer and clubber save money by reading this advice. Guarantee your entry with an official online club ticket from Ibiza Spotlight.
Every type of food is available on the island from fish, meat, vegetarian, fusion, Mexican, Italian, Asian, French, German and of course Mediterranean.
Splash out, spoil yourself and live it up like a VIP, because you’re on holiday and you deserve to have a superstar experience with all the trimmings. Treat yourself to a table at one of Ibiza’s premiere clubs and you’ll have all manner of added extras thrown into a mix. VIP tables include entry to the party; you’ll have access to the club’s exclusive VIP area - where you’ll be waited on hand and foot; plus you’ll have drinks included too. As a VIP table client you get bottle service and in most cases, the full amount you pay to the reserve the table is equalled in drinks credit.
Choose your ticket and pay for it with a credit card or Paypal. Take your ID and the printed ticket to the Guest-list/Internet Entrance and ENJOY! Save money: These club tickets are between 5 and 15 EUR cheaper than paying on the door! We hope this information has given a taste for this remarkable Island enjoy.

28th February
Día de Andalucía The Day of Andalucía (Día de Andalucía), also known as Andalucía Day, marks the anniversary of a referendum held on February 28, 1980. A large majority of voters supported this referendum for Andalucía to become an autonomous community in Spain.
If February 28 falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, many businesses and organizations are also closed on Monday, February 27, or Friday, February 29 or March 1. The Day of Andalucía is not a public holiday in the rest of Spain on February 28.
What Do People Do?
Background
Many people spend the day quietly with family or close friends. However, some people organize or attend private parties with traditional music, dancing, food and drink. Some municipalities hold communal meals with traditional foods, drinks and entertainment. Local politicians may present people with certificates or medals for service to the community.
Public Life
The Day of Andalucía is a public holiday in the autonomous community of Andalucía on February 28. Public life is generally quiet and many businesses and other organizations are closed. Many stores are closed but some bakers and food stores may be open. Public transport services generally run to a reduced schedule but there may be no services in rural areas. If February 28 falls on a Sunday, regional or local authorities may move the public holiday to a different date.
The autonomous community of Andalucía shares international land borders with Portugal and Gibraltar. Within Spain, it borders the autonomous communities of CastileLa Mancha, Extremadura and Murcia. People in Andalucía voted for the region to become an autonomous community of Spain on February 28, 1980. However, the Spanish Parliament only accepted Andalucía as an historic nationality in 2006.
Symbols
Andalucía’s flag is widely displayed on the Day of Andalucía. It consists of three equal horizontal bars. The top and lower bars are dark green and the middle bar is white. Andalucía’s coat of arms is at the center of the flag. Andalucía’s coat of arms consists of an image of the mythical Greek hero Heracles between two columns. The columns represent the Pillars of Heracles. These are the rocks on either side of the Straits of Gibraltar.

For many people, Tenerife’s Carnival is second only to Rio’s.

from. Each cover is made to measure for a precise fit and held in place by tight elastic straps that make it difficult for children to remove or lift the cover. The tensioned cover will effortlessly support a child’s/pet’s weight, providing significant safety benefits. Once the cover is in place, the pool pump is switched off and no chemicals are needed until the cover is removed in the Spring. The coloured opaque vinyl canvas (topside) is black or beige underneath which ensures that no light enters the pool and therefore stops micro-organism growth. The elastic straps are placed at 50cm intervals and attach to a stainless steel/brass fitting that screws down flat when the cover is not in use. All covers are made with a central membrane which allows rainwater to filter into the pool and exit through the pool overthrow. The cover is removed at the start of the swimming season and simply folded away and stored until needed. We also offer a cover fitting / removal service should you require it. Real Covers have been installing winter pool covers to many villas in the Almeria, Alicante, Murcia & Granada areas since 1993. The Apprentice The Apprentice is a British reality game show in which a group of aspiring businesspeople compete against each other in a series of business related challenges, in order to win a prize offered by British business magnate, Lord (Alan) Sugar. For series one to six, the prize was to become his “apprentice” and work at his former company, Amstrad (sold to BSkyB in 2007), or one of his other companies, Viglen, Amsprop or Amshold, receiving a six-figure salary, but since the seventh series, the prize is £250,000 investment towards a business of the candidate’s creation, with Sugar as a 50% owner. Rumours of a UK version of The Apprentice were confirmed in early 2004 by FremantleMedia, with the BBC successfully outbidding Channel 4 to secure the rights for the show. Billed as a “job interview from hell”, the programme operates in very similar format to that of the American original, with its creator Mark Burnett producing the UK version; Lord Sugar became the finalised choice to head the programme’s first series, after the broadcaster’s initial choices, Philip Green, Felix Dennis and Michael O’Leary, turned down the offer to head the show. Sugar returned for subsequent series. Each series of the programme consists of twelve episodes, and the first two series were aired on BBC Two in 2005 and 2006 respectively, before its success led the BBC to commission more series and move the show over to BBC One; subsequent series were usually shown in the Spring,

or delayed to the Autumn to avoid clashing with major political and sporting events being held in that year. During the broadcast of the thirteenth series in late 2017, it was confirmed that applications had opened for a 14th series, to be aired at the end of 2018. In the USA their version used to be presented by the President Donald Trump. On the UK show Karen Brady and Claude Littner help Lord Sugar choose his winner or Business Partner. This year for the very first time Lord Sugar couldn´t decide on the winner so has gone into business with James White and Sarah Lynn costing him a cool half a million pounds in investment. James White, who runs an IT recruitment firm, and Sarah Lynn, who owns a confectionery company, were both given £250,000 by Lord Sugar. Some have survived The Apprentice boardroom – others have been reduced to tearful, quivering wrecks after hearing the dreaded words: “You’re fired!” A handful have gone on to build empires bringing in millions while a few ended up on the dole queue.
Ricky Martin – Winner 2012
Former pro wrestler Ricky Martin boasted on the show: “I’m like a shark, right at the top of the food chain. I take what I want, when I want. I truly am the reflection of perfection.”
He went on to win over Lord Sugar with his business plan for a specialist science recruitment company. He is now the managing director of Essex-based business Hyper Recruitment Solutions, set up with the £250,000 investment winners now get. Qualified biochemist Ricky, 29 – who changed his name from Richard to emulate the pop star – and Lord Sugar each own half the business. He’s gone on to win numerous business awards and is earning several million pounds each year.
Tom Pellereau Winner 2011
Tom was on the losing team five weeks in a row and an exasperated Lord Sugar once barked at him: “If you nod your head any longer, I’m going to put you on the back seat of my bloody car.” But the inventor still triumphed and went into business with the tycoon developing Stylfile nail care products to be sold at Tesco and Asda supermarkets. Their company has made a turnover of £1.5million. Since his winning S-shaped nail file, he’s also launched a new makeup brush-cleaning gadget Stylpro and other time-saving beauty tech like gel nail polish remover clips and a baby-safe nail clipper.
Stella English Winner 2010
Sugar’s company Viglen and took it to an employment tribunal claiming it wasn’t the role she was promised and she was just an “overpaid lackey”. She lost her claim for constructive dismissal after telling the hearing she had only £90 left in her bank and was later pictured going into a job centre. Stella, 34, is now a host for Crowd Box – a TV channel that helps entrepreneurs raise money through crowd-funding – and works as a management consultant. And finally, one of the most memorable losers Stuart Baggs At 21, Stuart Baggs “The Brand” was the show’s youngest candidate – and his boastful quotes are legendary. They include: “Everything I touch turns to sold” and “I’m not a one-trick pony, I’m not a 10-trick pony, I have a field full of ponies and they’re all literally running towards this job”. But he fabricated details about a telecommunications licence from his business leading to Lord Sugar shouting “You’re full of s**t” and firing him. WHAT HE DID NEXT: On 30 July 2015, Stuart was tragically found dead in his home aged 27, due to an asthma attack. Two years before, he claimed The Apprentice had made him “the most unemployable person in the whole country”.
The highs of winning The Apprentice were soon followed by deep lows for Stella. She quit her £100,000 job at Lord

SPANISH PROPERTY CHOICE
CELEBRATING 10 YEARS! 2017 has been an incredible year for The Garners of Spanish Property Choice. The year started with the fantastic news that series one of the TV show Sun Sea and Selling Houses, aired in March 2017 featuring the Garners, who were chosen by Channel 4 to film 20 x 1 hour episodes, following the day to day running of their family business with family stories along the way, was such a huge hit with the UK viewing public, that the Garners were offered a second series of 25 x 1 hour episodes, “Garner-ing TV Heaven”. To say they were overwhelmed at this opportunity is an understatement, Sharon said, “when we got the call from Ricochet (Warner Bros) to say that we had achieved fantastic viewing figures and that David Sayer, head of Channel 4 loved us and would like to offer us 25 more episodes. We were shocked to be honest. We felt so privileged to have had the opportunity to do series one, but series 2 was mind blowing. We knew the series had gone down well due to the huge positive response we had. Our website hit ridiculous figures of almost a 1.5 million hits a day and averaged out at 75,000 hits a day after that. We were getting 30 emails an hour and our Facebook page has gone ballistic and continues to be a huge marketing tool for us now, with almost 11,000 followers in touch with us daily.” Sharon went on to say, “The one blessing is it was all positive, people fell in love with the area and us as a family, the love and support now is very humbling. All we know is achieving 45 episodes on daytime TV on Channel 4 is a huge achievement for a small family business and can only be good for the area. Without a shadow of doubt the series has brought more clients to the area, our business and to the doors of other agents and businesses in 2017 and will continue next year after series 2 goes to air early in the New Year.“ The Garners have just completed 6 months of filming series 2 and are looking forward and getting ready for the series to be aired and in preparation, The Garners have been getting ready for the new influx of business that will be generated from the show. It saw them expand into a second office in Mojacar and in December they launched their 3rd office located Inland in Albox. “Steve said many people think as we are based on the Playa, we only sell coastal properties, but as a family we all live inland and sell properties daily from Almeria, inland to Baza and up as far as Lorca from our own independent portfolio. We have 12 staff so are very lucky to have the ability to widen our areas for the benefit of our clients. After the first series of Sun Sea and Selling Houses we were contacted in huge numbers to open offices all over Spain, we were bombarded in Alicante and of course we would love to do that but its just not practical, so what we decided to do was collaborate exclusively with top sellers in those areas and have had a very fruitful 2017 working and selling houses out of our remit but with
confidence the clients are being looked after, this also produced sales with us, from vendors in that area moving here. Steve continues “Our local plans will continue with further offices opening throughout 2018, we have one already in line for Huercal Overa and a couple more on the cards. We have already picked up a lot of business in the Albox office and are excited to see it grow. 2017 also saw this great family business pop a few bottles of Champagne on camera to celebrate 10 years of trading from their prime Mojacar office, next to Koi Café, opposite the Parque Comercial. They are a force to be dealt with in business and have set the bar high for the industry. Sharon said, “The last 10 years has had many ups and a few downs but nothing we have not been able to deal with or learn from. We worked our way through a recession and where others retreated, we took the sword and charged forward to victory and now lead the market in both inland and coastal property sales in our province” Because they have been so successful and with the impending new series about to air, they are aware they need properties to feed the army so to speak. With their diary filling fast for 2018 they already have an idea of what clients are looking for, so if you have a property inland or coastal please give us the chance to sell it for you. Villas, Homes of Distinction, Apartments, Cortijos, Townhouses, Cave houses, Mobile homes and businesses are needed. You have nothing to loose. CELEBRATE WITH US YOU NEED TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT! To mark the first episode of series 2 of Sun Sea and Selling Houses, which is due to be aired early in 2018. The Garners would like to give ONE of our vendors the opportunity of selling their property through Spanish Property Choice at 0% commission! YES that’s right ONE lucky vendor will win the chance to sell their property free of charge. Making the most of the huge exposure we have to offer. Just make sure you have your property on our books on that date and we will do a live feed and draw one lucky winner on our Facebook Page on the countdown to the first episode starting. There has never been a better time to have your property on our books, contact us now and market your property with the company with the power of TV behind them.
