WELCOME You may have noticed that Spring is pretty much upon us after quite a long and chilly winter period and with it, we see many new businesses and residents putting down their roots in this beautiful part of Spain that many of us call home. The highlight for many over the next few months is Easter and local restaurants and bars are busily preparing for opening as this period will see a influx of visitors to Mojácar as flights return to Almería airport and the local Spaniards head to the coast to celebrate Semana Santa. We hope you enjoy this edition as we prepare ourselves for the summer rush that is to come!

coffee
in Spain First, you should know the espresso brewing method is the most popular way to prepare coffee in Spain. This method forces extremely hot, pressurized water through finely ground coffee beans. This results in a stronger flavour in a smaller amount of coffee. A cup of coffee brewed in this manner is often referred to as espresso. Ordering coffee in Spain involves the barista taking a cup of espresso and then adding milk to your liking. They won’t add any sugar. Rather, you will receive packets of sugar to add to your coffee yourself. Spanish coffee might taste more bitter than you’re used to, which can be attributed to the torrefacto method of preserving roasted coffee beans.
Coffees Served with Little or No Milk
Carajillo: This coffee order doesn’t have a drop of milk—instead, it has alcohol! A carajillo is espresso served with rum, whisky or brandy.
Café Americano: If the intensity of a café solo is a bit much, try a café americano. This coffee contains the same amount of caffeine as a café solo but with more water, resulting in a milder flavour.
Coffees Served with a Lot of Milk
Café Solo: A café solo is a small cup of strong, black espresso.
Café Cortado: A café cortado is a small cup of espresso with just a splash of milk. Other regions in Spain may refer to this drink as café manchado (coffee stained with milk). However, in some places, un manchado can mean the exact opposite: a glass of milk stained with a little bit of coffee, so be sure to specify! Café con Hielo: This summertime favourite is simply coffee with ice. The barista will give you two glasses: one containing black espresso and another containing ice cubes. To enjoy, add sugar to your liking, stir to dissolve the sugar in the hot coffee, and pour your coffee over the ice. It’s a feat of physics if you can get all the coffee into the other glass without spilling any!

Café con Leche: A café con leche is coffee served with equal parts espresso and milk. Sometimes when you order this, the waiter may ask if you want hot or cold milk. If you’re in a bit of a hurry and can’t wait for the steamed milk to cool, you can ask for leche fría o leche del tiempo (cold or room temperature milk). More on that below! Café Bombón: A café bombón is espresso with sweetened condensed milk. If you have a sweet tooth, you have to try it!
Decaffeinated Coffees
Fresh decaffeinated coffee isn’t very popular in Spain, and many cafes may only have it in instant form. If you order a café descafeinado de sobre, you’ll receive a cup of hot milk and a packet of instant decaffeinated coffee.

Dumbo In theatres March 29th, 2019. STORYLINE Holt was once a circus star, but he went off to war and when he returned it had terribly altered him. Circus owner Max Medici (Danny DeVito) hires him to take care of Dumbo, a newborn elephant whose oversized ears make him the laughing stock of the struggling circus troupe. But when Holt's children discover that Dumbo can fly, silver-tongued entrepreneur V.A. Vandevere (Michael Keaton), and aerial artist Colette Marchant (Eva Green) swoop in to make the little elephant a star. INFORMATION This latest Disney foray into remakes, mixing live action with CGI, is directed by Tim Burton (Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Sleepy Hollow, James and the Giant Peach, The Nightmare Before Christmas and many more) and the screenplay was written by Ehren Kruger (known for his works on the latest 3 Transformers movies
8
amongst others). Plans of a live-action Dumbo remake were announced in 2014 and Burton was confirmed as director in March 2015. Much of the cast signed on in March 2017 and principal photography began in July of that year in the United Kingdom, lasting until November. The film stars Colin Farrell, Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Eva Green, and Alan Arkin. It is loosely inspired by the 4th Walt Disney's animated film of the same name, itself based on the novel by Helen Aberson and Harold Pearl. Released on October 23, 1941; made to recoup the financial losses of Fantasia, it was a deliberate pursuit of simplicity and economy for the Disney studio. At 64 minutes, it is one of Disney's shortest animated features. In 2017, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

N332 Driving in Spain
the best place to find easily digestible information regarding road and traffic laws in Spain.
Get yourself Seen In the event of an incident or breakdown on the roads, we hopefully know the procedure to follow, donning our high visibility vest and placing one or two warning triangles protecting the vehicle , and then summoning help, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that this procedure is not enough. Whether it´s because the rules are not being followed correctly, or if they are not being followed at all, the number of fatalities and serious injuries in the early part of an incident is of deep concern. In 2018, 2 out of every 10 people who lost their lives on the high capacity roads of Spain did so outside their vehicle. In total, some 60 people were killed whilst involved in some kind of emergency which they were dealing with, whether that involved placing the triangles or just because they hadn´t been seen, it is a figure that must be reduced. One of the plausible measures being considered to reduce these deaths is to make the stricken vehicle even more visible, by means of a flashing orange light placed outside the vehicle, on a stable and flat surface, magnetised and with its own power, which would serve as a beacon which would be highly visible on vehicles where are at the roadside. Such devices are voluntary at the moment, to be used in addition to the hazard warning lights on the vehicle and the mandatory warning triangles and high visibility vests, but the proposal would see them as mandatory for all vehicles to carry and use in the event of an emergency. Of course, anything which has the potential to reduce road fatalities should be welcomed, but this is not without flaws in itself, as we have seen numerous police and Guardia Civil vehicles completely destroyed when they had stopped on the hard shoulder to assist
other road users, these vehicles festooned with flashing lights and reflectors, and yet still a target for the distracted. Although we know from historic data that the majority of serious incidents occur on the secondary road network, which is being targeted through such improvements as a reduction in the maximum permitted speed in some places, motorways are traditionally safer roads, partly due to their almost sterile environments, and their long stretches of straight sections and smooth curves. That said, complacency may be creeping in, as some 26% of the fatalities that occurred in 2018 were on these high capacity roads. It is worrisome that this figure continues to grow, with a 3% increase over 2017 last year, and 5% more than in 2011. The orange beacon use would be consistent with the Ministerial Order PCI / 810/2018, published in the BOE on July 31, which ordered the homogenization of the blue colour as a warning indicator for all emergency vehicles and gave a period of two years for that change, and also introduced permission for different types of emergency warning lights being voluntary, from the traditional beacon style, to revolving LED equivalents.

Albox The small town of Albox, in the north of Almeria province, is set amidst a stunning landscape of arid hills with olive groves, orchards of citrus and almond trees, and dramatic hills and valleys. Credit: Shenai Martínez Fernández and Chris Chaplow for andalucia.com
Monument to the Arriero
BACKGROUND
The town, which has a population of about 12,500, is located at 400m above sea level, flanked by two mountain ranges the Sierra de las Estancias and the Sierra de los Filabres. Situated in the basin of the River Almanzora, Albox is bisected by one of the Almanzora's tributaries, a (usually) dry riverbed known as the Rambla, which is crossed by three bridges. The Barrio Alto (high area) of San Antonio was the original nucleus of the town. Following development in the 17th and 18th centuries, most expansion took place in Loma de San Francisco. The historic centre, to the west of the river, has narrow streets interspersed with small plazas. Many buildings around the Santa Maria church and Plaza Mayor have been restored. The town is about half an hour from the sea at Garucha and approx. 45mins from the popular resort of Mojácar. Many visitors who are staying in self-catering holiday homes in the area come to Albox to stock up on food and household supplies.
HISTORY
Founded by the Arabs during the Muslim occupation of Spain - Albox means woodlands (al-Buks) in Arabic - also has remains dating back to the Neolithic times. The town was linked to the mighty Kingdom of Granada from the 13th century, and you can still see towers dating from this period. During the Christian Reconquest, in the 15th century, Albox was conquered by Alonso Yáñez Fajardo, the Military Governor of Murcia, part of the Kingdom of Castilla. Albox and surrounding area, was awarded to Alonso as Marquess of los Vélez. 16
In around 1500, an earthquake destroyed a large part of Albox. The castle was largely demolished, and the stone used to repair homes, although some small sections of walls still remain. The Moriscos (Moors who stayed behind after the Reconquest and either converted willingly, or were coerced to covert, to Christianity) of Albox took a prominent part in the various Moorish uprisings throughout of the Kingdom of Granada in the 16th century. As a result, King Felipe II quashed the rebellions and expelled theMoriscos; the town was repopulated with Christians from Valencia and La Mancha. A municipal council was constituted in 1563, under Anton de Andrano, the town's first mayor and in 1716, the venerated image of Nuestra Señora del Saliente came to the town, and two priests from Albox founded the Santuario dedicated to it on Mount Roel. Moorish Watchtower
The Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Saliente During the Napoleonic invasion, the town played an important role in the fight against French invaders, with bloody skirmishes in 1810 and 1811. Later that century, Albox suffered major floods in 1891 and 1900; as a result of the latter, the upper part of the stone city wall, built to protect the city in 1891, was destroyed.

Things to SEE IN ALBOX
Santa María Church The interior of the Santa María Church, built in the 16th century after the Reconquest, has the remains of an altarpiece made by Alonso Cano, a renowned Spanish painter, architect and sculptor. Plaza Mayor A large fountain on an elevated platform in the Plaza Mayor provides a 360-degree vantage point to view the attractive town hall, Santa Maria church, houses with interesting wrought iron balconies, and cafés. It also overlooks the dry river bed and surrounding landscapes. Pottery Museum Antonio Alfonso Fernández and his brother Juan are potters who create traditional Almerian pottery in their workshop "Los Puntas", using arcilla clayfired intraditional Arab-style ovens dating back 300 years. Located on Calle San Leonardo. Monument to the Arriero This monument in Plaza Nueva is the work of the sculptor María Isabel García Oller. The large sculpture(5m by 2m) is made from white marble of Macael and represents the commercial and artisan past of Albox. The Arrerios were muleteers who transported goods from town to town.
La Roldana (Luisa Roldana) school, it is the best example of the baroque style in Almeria. In 1988 the sacred image was crowned by the Apostolic Nuncio on behalf of Pope John Paul II. The sanctuary is located on the mountain side 23km north of the town on the AL-7100 mountain road towards Chirvel at km 20. Torres Aljambra and Terdiguera. This Moorish watchtower is located on a hill a few km's to the east, over looking the town. Also known as Torre Vigia Arabe, it dates back to 13th century at the beginning of the Nasrid kingdom. It has a square base tower with three of the four walls remaining standing; to get there, take the Camino Alfambra (continuation of Calle Puente). The Terdiguera Tower is another ruined Moorish tower, located 10km north of the town. Santa María Church
OUTSIDE OF THE TOWN
The Sanctuary of Nuestra Señora del Saliente (Our Lady of the Abandoned) is one of the most important religious buildings in Almeria province, commemorating a supernatural appearance by the Virgin Mary in the 12th Century. Constructed in 1716 by local priests Don Lázaro de Martos and Don Roque, it was later extended by Bishop Sanz y Torres, adding a shrine, Episcopal Palace, guesthouse and convent. Housed at the sanctuary is the relic of Nuestra Señora del Saliente - a small baroque carving, possibly by the 17

FOOL! The uncertain origins of a foolish day. April Fools' Day, sometimes called All Fools' Day, is one of the most light-hearted days of the year. Its origins are uncertain. Some see it as a celebration related to the turn of the seasons, while others believe it stems from the adoption of a new calendar.

Ancient cultures, including those of the Romans and Hindus, celebrated New Year's Day on or around April 1. It closely follows the vernal equinox (March 20th or March 21st.) In medieval times, much of Europe celebrated March 25, the Feast of Annunciation, as the beginning of the new year.
This explanation was brought to the public's attention in an Associated Press article printed by many newspapers in 1983. There was only one catch: Boskin made the whole thing up. It took a couple of weeks for the AP to realize that they'd been victims of an April Fools' joke themselves.
In 1582, Pope Gregory XIII ordered a new calendar (the Gregorian Calendar) to replace the old Julian Calendar. The new calendar called for New Year's Day to be celebrated Jan. 1. That year, France adopted the reformed calendar and shifted New Year's day to Jan. 1. According to a popular explanation, many people either refused to accept the new date, or did not learn about it, and continued to celebrate New Year's Day on April 1. Other people began to make fun of these traditionalists, sending them on "fool's errands" or trying to trick them into believing something false. Eventually, the practice spread throughout Europe.
Spring Fever
Problems With This Explanation
There are at least two difficulties with this explanation. The first is that it doesn't fully account for the spread of April Fools' Day to other European countries. The Gregorian calendar was not adopted by England until 1752, for example, but April Fools' Day was already well established there by that point. The second is that we have no direct historical evidence for this explanation, only conjecture, and that conjecture appears to have been made more recently.
Constantine and Kugel
Another explanation of the origins of April Fools' Day was provided by Joseph Boskin, a professor of history at Boston University. He explained that the practice began during the reign of Constantine, when a group of court jesters and fools told the Roman emperor that they could do a better job of running the empire. Constantine, amused, allowed a jester named Kugel to be king for one day. Kugel passed an edict calling for absurdity on that day, and the custom became an annual event. "In a way," explained Prof. Boskin, "it was a very serious day. In those times fools were really wise men. It was the role of jesters to put things in perspective with humour." 20
It is worth noting that many different cultures have had days of foolishness around the start of April, give or take a couple of weeks. The Romans had a festival named Hilaria on March 25th, rejoicing in the resurrection of Attis. The Hindu calendar has Holi, and the Jewish calendar has Purim. Perhaps there's something about the time of year, with its turn from winter to spring, that lends itself to light-hearted celebrations.
Observances Around the World
n Spain, the equivalent of All Fools' Day is “Día de los Santos Inocentes”, which takes place in the middle of the long Christmas season (Spanish Navidad runs all the way through to 6 January, the Epiphany). On 28th December it’s your turn to play your favourite jokes on friends and family! The history of the day is based on the Bible passage (Matthew 2:1618) telling about when King Herod heard that a new King of the Jews had been born (Jesus). Concerned about this threat to his power, Herod ordered all infant boys under the age of two in Bethlehem and its vicinity to be killed. The day was named for the many innocent souls that were lost that night. Today, the atmosphere of the celebration is festive and fun, with people playing jokes and pranks on each other - perfectly in line with the healthy Andalucian sense of humour! The most traditional joke is to put a puppet or paper cut-out on people’s backs they are the inocentadas, which means ‘practical jokes' as well as ‘innocents’ in Spanish .

INVESTMENTS for Spanish Residents
Many people living in Spain are concerned regarding investing their monies, below we hope to answer some of the more common queries.
Is it safe, what are the risks, is it regulated?
A very good question, with previous experiences of “Advisers” losing or running off with their monies, people must be wary of some of the advertisements promising large returns or Guaranteed returns. Potential investors should ensure that the investment that they are considering is being offered by a reputable, regulated Financial Services Company, preferably regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) in the UK, and that the Adviser is fully qualified to at least Diploma Level and has the accreditation DipFa as a minimum. You must ensure that a Personal Profile or Fact Find and an Attitude to Risk Profile is completed to establish what type of investment matches your attitude to financial risk. Most of our Investors are in the Low risk group and are prepared to take a small degree of risk with their financial decisions. When faced with a major financial decision they are usually more concerned about the possible losses than the possible gains.
Investing Risks
• Past performance is no guarantee of future returns. • The price of units and the income from them can fall as well as rise. • The value of investment is not guaranteed and on encashment you may not get back the full amount invested. • A surrender penalty may apply if you encash this investment in the early years.
What is the best type of investment for an Ex-Pat living in Spain?
The majority of our clients are invested via Investment Bonds, these are collective investments in which the investments of many individual investors are pooled. This pooling enables relatively small investors to benefit from the economies of scale made available to institutional fund managers. Investment bonds are technically single premium life assurance contracts and therefore normally have nominal life cover attaching. A wide choice of funds are available ranging from managed to specialist funds.
The investment Bonds that we recommend are “Spanish Compliant”, they are not in Spain but the Bond Providers have ensured that the Bond is approved by the Spanish Authorities, this gives the Bond Tax efficient status. We only use a large reputable company that has the fund type available to match your attitude to risk but could provide a higher income than available from a bank.
Reasons to use an Investment Bond.
• This gives you a contract that is recognized and accepted by the Spanish tax authorities. • There are potential tax benefits on withdrawals • Tax is calculated and deducted at source, which takes the burden away from the policyholder • No need to report the policy on annual tax returns • All investments are administered within a single policy • Institutional type funds can be accessed which would not otherwise be available • Institutional discounts on purchases and annual management charges • The assets are considered to be non-Spanish assets due to the fact that the policy is based in Ireland Although there are charges if you fully surrender the Bond in the first five years, this does not mean that it is locked away as you can take lump sums or regular withdrawals from it. The returns from the bond against those of a bank account means that you should receive more returns from the Bond even after the charges in year two.
Will I pay Tax on my Investment?
A key benefit of holding any approved life assurance structure is the ability to mitigate tax payable on withdrawals. The provider will on encashment look at the total policy value at that time. If the policy value has growth for example by 10% from €100k to €110k the withdrawal amount will be treated with the same ratios. (100/110 being treated as capital and 10/110 treated as income). Therefore with a €10k withdrawal only €909 will be treated as income (1/11 of the €10k) and taxed at current rate of 21% meaning a total tax payment due of €190 which is withheld by the provider and paid on the clients behalf to the tax office. As such the client receives a net €9810 from the €10k withdrawal meaning an equivalent tax rate of 1.9% on the full withdrawal. The above tax information is based on our understanding of current tax legislation. 23

BOOK SHELF Featured good reads or references...
Beneath the Underdog is less an autobiography than it is a catalogue of appetites. The book’s opening states: “Some names in this book have been changed and some of the characters and incidents are fictitious.” Odd for an autobiography, but by removing the reader from preconceived ideas of truth-telling and history, we are instead pointed toward myth-making from the mind of the “hero” himself. The mind, in this case, is that of Charles Mingus, widely considered the greatest bass player in jazz history and one of the greatest composers in the history of music, bar none. In his autobiography he narrates his mid-century ascendance from the slums of L.A.’s Watts neighbourhood to the highest reaches of musical fame and stardom. Mingus’ world is only hazily representative of today’s refined jazz world of “Kennedy Centre performances.” This is a rough, gritty underworld of hustlers and dreamers, of classically-trained junkies and transcendent autodidacts. All of whom are desperate to carve out an original place in the American Songbook against a backdrop of systematic racism, civil disobedience and revolution.
Steven Patrick Morrissey was born in Manchester on May 22nd 1959. Singersongwriter and co-founder of the Smiths (1982-1987), Morrissey has been a solo artist for twenty-six years, during which time he has had three number 1 albums in England in three different decades.
Neil Young is a songwriter fueled by big ideas and relentless creative ambition. That ability to stay motivated and energized defines Young as much as his music and other sorted endeavors, and Waging Heavy Peace puts his artistic restlessness on full display.
The unadorned title of Autobiography by Morrissey is about as plain as the book itself gets. Blessed with a winning turn of phrase and an ability to offer poetic revelations and tenderly revealed memories as much as ill-considered venom, frequent character assassinations, and contempt, especially for the legal system, its author is someone about whom it is hard not to hold an opinion.
More than just an autobiography, the book is a meandering trip through the mind of one of rock music’s great visionaries, and Young’s attention shifts wildly between music, his love of model trains, his past relationships, family life, old friends and enemies, past and present collaborators, his passion for old cars, and his efforts to try and bring “real sound” back to recorded music. Chronology takes a back seat to Young’s stream of consciousness writing style, but it’s hardly an issue. In fact, it’s kind of fitting.
That said, the book is one you could feasibly enjoy without knowing very much about Morrissey the artist. For other than an over-long and repetitive passage of 50 pages dealing with the 1996 court case over royalties claimed by former Smiths band members, it’s largely an engaging and perceptive, if rambling, read.
Given Young’s reputation for outwardly challenging convention at every turn, it makes sense that his stab at an autobiography would violate every rule but his own. Without getting bogged down too much in trying to compose a linear narrative, Young writes the way he thinks, and it makes for a fascinating and forthright read. — Ryan Bray

YOGA
...with Portia Oliver
How often do you get a sudden twinge or pain somewhere and think to yourself that you need to do something about it? What do you do and where do you go? With so many different classes available to you and all the weird and wonderful names, it can be hard to know where to start. This is where I come in! I am going to share with you some hints and tips to deal with stiff, aching joints, stress relief and how to enhance your flexibility.
A little bit about myself
So I better tell you a little more about who I am and why I am so keen to share this information with you. My name is Portia Oliver and I am a yoga teacher here in Mojácar. I am so passionate about yoga as it helped me transform my life. In my early 30’s I suffered with terrible back pain, a thyroid condition and depression. I'd read about the benefits of yoga and decided to give it a try. I was not naturally flexible and yoga did not come easily to me, however I did discover a love for my practice. Yoga was not only benefiting my body, but also my mind. I cleared myself of my medication and have not suffered with back pain since. This is when I decided I wanted to qualify as a teacher to help others do the same thing. I have since had the pleasure of working with so many different people, improving their health, flexibility, mental well-being and just giving them some time for relaxation.
I had been successfully teaching in Malvern UK, but my family and I had always wanted to move to Spain (like most people, the blue skies were calling us.) So in August of last Year we took the plunge and arrived in Mojácar. We settled in very quickly, and everyone has been so welcoming. I have been lucky enough to find a yoga studio now, next door to Badgers along the Paseo. The Studio opened February 1st with a range of different classes available to suit anyone from a complete beginner to the more advanced. Yoga is so vast and can cover so many different things, so it is easy to get lost when you start looking for classes. Yoga teachers are more than happy to tell you all you need to know before you come along, so don’t be afraid to ask questions. In this edition of the Ultimate, I have shared some of my favourite poses that are focused on increasing spinal mobility, this is an area that we hold a lot of tension and in turn this can result in poor posture or regular headaches as a result.

CAT - Rounding up
From hands and knees position, hands under shoulders and knees under hips. Inhale through the nose and then exhale and tuck your chin to your chest, push your spine up to the ceiling to arch your back and pull your belly button in as much as you can. It’s lovely to feel the spread between the shoulder blades.
DOWN DOG - The king of poses From your hands and knees position you can try and straighten the legs and push your heels towards the floor, but keep a slight bend in the knees. draw the belly button in and now you are in a downward dog. A lovely position to stretch out the whole body, increase strength in the arms and release tension from the lower back. This one is great when you have been sat down for a long.
If you need further help & advice please get in contact.
Have a wonderful stretchy Easter everyone and enjoy the sunshine.
COW - Sinking down
Now inhale and drop your belly towards the floor, keeping hands and knees where they are and lift your head up to look towards the ceiling, pull your shoulders back and open your chest. Then repeat both moves as you inhale and exhale for about 5 breaths.
DANGLING - Hang it out
From Down Dog you can begin walking your hands back to your feet. Keep the knees bent as you walk back and remember to grab a wall or sofa edge if you need support. Hold folded over your legs, allowing the arms to hang heavy or reach down for your toes. Let your head go really heavy and shake out any tension from your neck. I like to hold here for a few breaths and then slowly either stand up or come back into a down dog and then back to hands and knees. You could do this a few times, walking back and forth from down dog to dangling.

method 1. Sieve flour and salt in a bowl and rub in the margarine until fine breadcrumbs. Stir in yeast, sugar, cocoa, spice and orange zest. 2. Warm the milk to 37°c, pour into flour mixture and mix to a soft dough. 3. 4.
Knead dough until elastic and no longer sticky. (Do this on a floured surface). Put dough in to a bowl covered in lightly oiled cling film and put in a warm place until it has doubled in size. Knead in the chocolate and apricots and shape into 8 buns and place on a greased baking sheet. Cover in lightly oiled cling film and place in a warm place for 45 minutes. To make the crosses, blend the margarine with the flour and 4 tablespoons of water. Remove the cling film from the buns and pipe the mixture in a cross onto each bun.
5. Bake in a pre-heated oven on 190°c fan or gas mark 7 for approx 15 minutes or until golden brown. 6. 48
To make the glaze, gently warm the orange juice and sugar until dissolved and brush over the hot buns. Return the buns to the oven and cook for a further 2 minutes. Remove, cool and enjoy!

“I’d just like to say a huge thank you to all my customers and friends who have supported Abodes over the last 3 years. It has been a great pleasure and joy in building Abodes over this period and I am proud of what I have achieved. I shall miss the customers and miss working here at Abodes, but I am now looking forward to new ventures. I am delighted to hand over the reigns to Ruth, Andy and Carolyn from The Sleep Centre as they not only employ the same work ethics as myself, but will be bringing their vast experience in working in the Home Accessories industry. I know they will do wonders for this area and continue to build Abodes into an even better place to shop. Just watch this space.”- Margaret

MASTERS April 11th – 14th, 2019 The 2019 Masters Tournament will be the 83rd edition of the Masters Tournament and the first of golf's four major championships to be held in 2019. It will be held from April 11–14 at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia. The Masters has the smallest field of the four major championships. Officially, the Masters remains an invitation event, but there is a set of qualifying criteria that determines who is included in the field. Each player is classified according to the first category by which he qualified, with other categories in which he qualified shown in parentheses. Dates when a qualifying category will be completely determined are indicated in italics. Golfers who qualify based solely on their performance in amateur tournaments (categories 6–10) must remain amateurs on the starting day of the tournament to be eligible to play. Justin
ROSE The World number one golfer. Justin Peter Rose, MBE is an English professional golfer who plays most of his golf on the PGA Tour, while keeping his membership on the European Tour. He is the current World Number One in the Official World Golf Ranking. He won his first major championship at the 2013 U.S. Open at Merion Golf Club, becoming the first English player to win a major since Nick Faldo in 1996 and the first to win the U.S. Open since Tony Jacklin in 1970. At the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Rose won gold at the men's individual tournament. With that victory, Rose joined Hall of Fame members Gary Player, David Graham, Hale Irwin and Bernhard Langer as one of only five golfers to win official tournaments on all six continents on which golf is played/ Rose has also twice been runner-up at the Masters Tournament, in 2015 and 2017.
and as a result, he re-entered the world top 10. After finishing second to Tiger Woods in the 2013 Arnold Palmer Invitational, he rose to a then career-high world ranking of 3rd. After the Open Championship in 2018 he rose to world number 2. Following a loss to Keegan Bradley in a sudden-death playoff in the 2018 BMW Championship, Rose climbed to World Number 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking. He won the 2018 FedEx Cup Playoffs and its US $10 million prize.
About the man... • Born: July 30, 1980 (age 38), Johannesburg, SA • Nationality: GBR • Height: 6'2" (1.88m)
He first came to prominence as an amateur at the 1998 Open Championship where he holed a dramatic shot from the rough at the final hole to finish in a tie for fourth place. He won the 2007 Order of Merit on the European Tour and was ranked in the World top ten between November 2007 and July 2008. In March 2012, Rose won his first World Golf Championship event at the WGC-Cadillac Championship 54

Putter Axis1 Ball TaylorMade TP5 In was his 10th win on the PGA Tour and what makes his win even more impressive, is that he has been playing a vastly different set of clubs than normal after he signed a 10-club partnership with Honma Golf to play its forged irons and wedges. Interestingly he has also put a driver made by the Japanese brand in the bag too. Having used the TaylorMade M3 440 driver in 2018, Rose has switched to Honma’s TWorld 747 460 driver. Additionally he has also been using an M6 3 wood as well as a Honma utility iron instead of his usual TaylorMade M3 5-wood. He has been made a prototype split set of forged Honma TWorld irons. Moving into the wedges, he used Honma TWorld Rose Proto’s and a Titleist Vokey SM7 lob wedge. His lofts are 52°, 56° and 60°. Rose is also a Lamkin ambassador and he has recently had R.E.L ACE golf grips put on his irons and wedges. Finally the world number one had been using the TaylorMade TP Red Collection Ardmore 2 putter but Rose instead has gone back to the Axis1 putter which he used to great effect in California. His putter was on red-hot form throughout the week as he produced rounds of 63-66-69-69. His putter is fitted with a Lamkin Flat Cat grip.

VERA BYPASS
PADEL TENNIS Padel resembles lawn tennis, this great, fun game is suitable for all ages and can be played as a couple or doubles. The court is smaller, the net is lower than the lawn tennis specifications, and the sides of the court covered in clear perspex, which in our view extends the game, as the ball bounces back at you for a return shot. The court does not have double lanes and a solid padel bat is used in this game as opposed to a string racket in lawn tennis. The game has been played for more than a century and is now gaining wide popularity, especially in Spain. In many areas there are now public courts, subsidised by the Town Hall.
Paddle Tennis Rules and Regulations
According to rules of padel tennis, the court should be 50 ft in length and 20 ft in width, with the distance from service line to service line being 44 ft. In order to meet the requirements set by the United States Paddle Tennis Association, the paddle used in this game should be not larger than 9 1/2 inches x 18 inches in size. It should be made from some solid material, such as wood, and should not have strings in it. The ball used in this game should be a pressurized tennis ball, meeting the requirements set by the United States Tennis Association. The ball has to be punctured in order to reduce its internal pressure. The net, 22 ft long and 2.6 ft wide, should be exactly 31 inches above the surface of the ground and 18 inches outside each sideline. The player who wins the toss, or padel spin, may either choose the side or serve. In case the player chooses to serve, the opponent gets to choose a side, and if the player chooses the side, the opponent gets to serve. When serving, the player should not strike the ball at a height above 31 inches. The player is allowed to serve only once and if he creates a foul, he loses a point.
The scoring in padel tennis is similar to lawn tennis. The first point earns the player 15, second point 30, third point 40 while the fourth point wins him the game. In order to win a set, the player should have a lead with a margin of 2 games over his opponent; if the game reaches to a point of a tie, there is a tie breaker to decide the winner. At the end of each odd game, the players are supposed to change sides. There can either be an 8 game pro-set or best of 3 in a standard six-game set. Breaks of 60 seconds when changing sides, 10 minutes between 2nd and 3rd set and 15 seconds between points are allowed. Unnecessary delays can call for a disqualification. If the set points reach 6 all, 8 all or 12 all, then there is a tie breaker. In such a case, the player who reaches 7 games in a 6 set format, 9 games in an 8 set format or 13 games in a 12 set format, with a margin of 2 games, is declared the winner.
Equipment Padel bat/racquet: This can purchased from sports shops, although there are many specialist paddle shops appearing, as the popularity of the sport is increasing. Prices start from â‚Ź20 through to hundreds of Euros! Many of the courts will hire you a bat/racquet and balls. Balls: Specialist balls can be purchased, however normal tennis balls can be used. Footwear & Attire: Trainers should be worn. Some clubs may insist on proper attire, although public courts should be more forgiving by allowing T-shirt and shorts.
The player can either toss the ball in the air or bounce it behind the base line on the court while serving, but the method once chosen has to be used for the entire set. In singles matches, when the serve is returned, the server has to wait for the ball to bounce before returning it back. The server shouldn’t cross the baseline by any part of his body; doing this will be considered as a Footfault and the player will lose a point. The service is regarded as a fault when the server misses the ball while attempting a serve or the ball touches the net when served. At the end of each game, there is a role reversal. The receiver becomes server, while the server becomes the receiver. The point gained by a player when the ball falls exactly on the line or touches the line is called a good ball and thus earns a legal point for the player.

TRAVEL REPORT
Paris Paris, France's capital, is a major European city and a global center for art, fashion, gastronomy and culture. Its 19th-century cityscape is crisscrossed by wide boulevards and the River Seine. Beyond such landmarks as the Eiffel Tower and the 12thcentury, Gothic Notre-Dame cathedral, the city is known for its cafe culture and designer boutiques along the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. There’s a reason Paris is one of the most popular cities among travellers. Known as the “City of Light” or the “City of Love,” the streets of Paris overflow with culture, art, beauty, and history. Whether searching out Monet’s Water Lilies at Musée de l’Orangerie, climbing the many steps of Sacré-Cœur, standing before the Eiffel Tower in awe, or searching out the best crepes along the Seine, Paris is a city that captures the hearts of millions ever year.
The top things to do on a first-time visit
Enjoy a panoramic view of the city from a 324m height at the top of the Eiffel Tower, admire Victor Hugo’s beloved gargoyles at Notre Dame Cathedral and stand at the top of the tallest hill in Paris at the Sacré Cœur Basilica. These are the three monuments most popular with visitors to Paris. Not far from Notre Dame Cathedral, the Sainte Chapelle with its beautiful stained glass windows is also well worth visiting. A short distance from the Champs-Elysées, the Grand Palais, a huge stone, steel and glass structure, hosts prestigious exhibitions. Built by Napoleon, the Arc de Triomphe offers a breathtaking bird’s-eye view of the city. 58
In the heart of Paris, the Louvre is a former royal residence which was transformed into a museum after the Revolution and has since become the world’s most visited museum. The Musée d’Orsay houses the largest collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist paintings in the world. Another must-see is the Palais Garnier with its ornately decorated façade and its ceiling painted by Marc Chagall. Finally, a trip out to the Père Lachaise cemetery offers the opportunity to pay homage at the tombs of many famous people.
PLACes to stay
If money is no object why not stay at the Penisular Paris. Unforgettable drives along the majestic boulevards are guaranteed in The Peninsulars fleet of luxury vehicles. Such as their customised Mini Cooper Clubman or the flagship BMW 7 series.
10 interesting facts about Paris • The Eiffel Tower was supposed to be a temporary installation, intended to stand for 20 years after being built for the 1889 World Fair. • Paris was originally a Roman City called “Lutetia.” • It’s believed that Paris only has 1 stop sign in the entire city. • A flat in Paris was left unoccupied under lock and key for 70 years, but the rent was paid every month; when the renter passed away, a painting by Boldini valued at more than $2 million was found inside. • There are at least three replicas of the Statue of Liberty in Paris. The most famous of them exists on an island in the middle of the Seine and looks towards her sister statue in New York. • The main bell of the Notre Dame Cathedral is named Emmanuel and weighs over 13 tonnes. • There are 6,100 rues – or streets – in Paris; the shortest one, Rue des Degrés, is just 5.75 metres long and can be found in the 2nd arrondissement. • The French army was the first to use camouflage, which comes from the French verb “to make up for the stage.” The army began wearing camouflage in 1915 during World War I. • The first public screening of a movie was by French brothers Auguste and Louis Lumière in December 1895. They used their invention “the cinématographe” to show 10 films of about 50 seconds each. • Visitors to the Eiffel Tower have to climb 1,665 steps to reach the top – unless they take the elevator! There are a mere 270 steps to reach the Basilica of the Sacré Cœur.

WORLDS MOST Astonishing facts & figures from around the globe. ...popular re-read
BOOKS According to goodreads.com some of these books are childhood favourites that get read and re-read until their spines disintegrate entirely. Others seem to be books we all read back in school; books we're now finally mature enough to truly understand (or which are unsettlingly relevant in the year 2019). Whatever the reason, people can't get enough of these classic works of fiction. 1. 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald
2. 'To Kill a Mockingbird' by Harper Lee
The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald’s third book, stands as the supreme achievement of his career. First published in 1925, this quintessential novel of the Jazz Age has been acclaimed by generations of readers.
One of the most cherished stories of all time, To Kill a Mockingbird has been translated into more than forty languages, sold more than forty million copies worldwide, served as the basis for an enormously popular motion picture, and was voted one of the best novels of the twentieth century by librarians across the country.
3. 'Harry Potter & the Philosophers Stone' by J.K. Rowling
4. '1984' by George Orwell
Harry Potter has no idea how famous he is. That's because he's being raised by his miserable aunt and uncle who are terrified Harry will learn that he's really a wizard, just as his parents were. But everything changes when Harry is summoned to attend an infamous school for wizards.
Written in 1948, 1984 was George Orwell’s chilling prophecy about the future. And while 1984 has come and gone, his dystopian vision of a government that will do anything to control the narrative is timelier than ever...
64
5. 'The Catcher in the Rye' by J.D. Salinger
6. Every Other Harry Potter Book
The hero-narrator of THE CATCHER IN THE RYE is an ancient child of sixteen, a native New Yorker named Holden Caulfield. Through circumstances that tend to preclude adult, secondhand description, he leaves his prep school in Pennsylvania and goes underground in New York City for three days.
Harry Potter is a series of fantasy novels written by British author J. K. Rowling. The novels chronicle the lives of a young wizard, Harry Potter, and his friends Hermione Granger and Ron Weasley, all of whom are students at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
7. 'The Hobbit' by J.R.R. Tolkien
8. 'Fahrenheit 451' by Ray Bradbury
Bilbo Baggins is a hobbit who enjoys a comfortable, unambitious life, rarely traveling any farther than his pantry or cellar. But his contentment is disturbed when the wizard Gandalf and a company of dwarves arrive on his doorstep one day to whisk him away on an adventure.
Ray Bradbury’s internationally acclaimed novel Fahrenheit 451 is a masterwork of twentieth-century literature set in a bleak, dystopian future. Guy Montag is a fireman. In his world, where television rules and literature is on the brink of extinction, firemen start fires rather than put them out.
9. 'Pride and Prejudice' by Jane Austen
10.'Brave New World' by Aldous Huxley
In a publishing career that spanned less than a decade, Jane Austen revolutionized the literary romance, using it as a stage from which to address issues of gender politics and classconsciousness rarely expressed in her day.
Aldous Huxley is considered a prophetic genius & 1 of the most important literary & philosophical voices of the 20th Century. Brave New World is his masterpiece. This powerful work of speculative fiction has enthralled and terrified readers for generations.
'A Wrinkle in Time' by Madeleine L'Engle
'Animal Farm' by George Orwell
'The Giver' by Lois Lowry
It was a dark & stormy night; Meg Murry, her small brother Charles Wallace, and her mother had come down to the kitchen for a midnight snack when they were upset by the arrival of a most disturbing stranger.
A farm is taken over by its overworked, mistreated animals. With flaming idealism and stirring slogans, they set out to create a paradise of progress, justice, and equality. Thus the stage is set for one of the most telling satiric fables ever penned—a razor-edged fairy tale for grown-ups that records the evolution from revolution against tyranny to a totalitarianism just as terrible.
The Giver, the 1994 Newbery Medal winner, has become one of the most influential novels of our time.
A Wrinkle in Time is the winner of the 1963 Newbery Medal.
The haunting story centers on twelve-year-old Jonas, who lives in a seemingly ideal, if colorless, world of conformity and contentment.

ESPADEVIDA
The first over 50’s Co-Housing development in the area. lately, the world has become a sea of uncertainties. i will not mention the “B-word” as i’m sure you’re already sick of reading it everywhere, but we cannot deny how this has catered to a society of division. growing more and more desensitized as a collective humankind - we are becoming divided, it’s every human for itself. now, especially with all of those worries going on everywhere you look in society, we are pushing for a better way of life; a lifestyle where we live together as a small neighbourhood in which we look after each other and share the foundations for a caring style of living – whether for now or for the future as a pensioner. Of course, this Co-housing lifestyle doesn’t mean you’ll be “joint at your neighbour’s hip” 24/7. The privacy is there, the comfort of your own nest, only settled within a larger community – one you have founded with your neighbours. large communal spaces that’ll be free to use and share, along with the option of various services that can be arranged from within, for which you would only pay the service you choose. From a masseur, hairdresser, Spanish teacher, translator, etc , to the option of a 24 hr assistance service or anything relating to health- and daily care. We have already created a building complex of 44 lifestyle apartments (from €77.000) that have everything thought through – from easy mobility access, up to a “panic button”, for the elderly and
lonely seniors, all while having the greenest energy label we can possibly achieve. Several people have already decided to reserve a future living space in our apartment gallery, which means they are looking for further neighbours. We are building this lifestyle with you and for you – but we can not establish this Co-housing neighbourhood without your contribution. The eSPaDeViDa aPaRTmenT galleRY – the first over 50’s co-housing establishment of its kind in southern Spain. Send us a non-committal email for more information, or attend any of our monthly “Round Table meetings” to: espadevida@mojacarestates.com or visit our web page: www.espadevida.com/news for more information.
