PIMM’S
We have had an article about Pimm’s in before (a few years ago now) but with the Derby, Wimbledon, Henley, Royal Ascot and now the World Cup, it is the ideal drink for BBQ`s while watching these great sporting events. The Pimm’s Cup is a classic British summertime drink that is filled with fruit. As well as the classic, Pimm’s now have a variety of flavours on offer including Blackberry & Elderflower, Vodka Cup, Cider Cup and Strawberry & Mint and some of these are available from the recently refurbished Consum supermarket in Mojácar. Ingredients: • 2oz Pimm’s No. 1 • 3oz of Sprite, 7Up or ginger ale • 1 Cucumber Slice • 1 Strawberry, hulled and cut into quarters • Half an Orange slice • 1 Lemon slice • 6 Mint leaves To make a Pimm’s cup is simple, just add all the ingredients to a highball glass filled with ice and stir to combine. To mix things up a bit, you can replace the Sprite, 7Up or ginger ale with Champagne.

head of security for skyscrapers. In July 2017, Chin Han and Pablo Schreiber joined the cast of the film.In August 2017, Byron Mann and Hannah Quinlivan joined the cast, while a few days later, Variety confirmed that Noah Taylor had also been cast in the film. On August 22, 2017, Roland Møller was added to the cast of the film for one of the main roles. SYNOPSIS Former FBI agent and amputee Will Sawyer lives in the tallest and “safest” skyscraper in Hong Kong with his family. The skyscraper itself, known as “The Pearl” houses several floors that function as their own society and despite the risks highlighted by Sawyer, who is the building’s head of security, his bosses insist that it is impenetrable. True to Sawyer’s belief, the building comes under attack by terrorists, forcing Sawyer to take action. N332 Driving in Spain
the best place to find easily digestible information regarding road and traffic laws in Spain.
avoiding ROAD RAGE Road rage or harassment can have serious and sometimes fatal consequences. In an ideal world, we would all drive in a safe, courteous and legal manner, maintaining a safe speed and distance, allowing other drivers to proceed if appropriate, staying calm and concentrating on the task of driving . But, in reality, we don´t live in an ideal world. All too often we see or experience the same, the bad practices of driving too close, overtaking with hostile and insulting gestures, closing gaps to prevent vehicles from joining the traffic flow in front of us, all of which can be sanctioned with fines, the loss of points and, in the worst cases, even prison, so why does it happen? Driving can create extreme situations that end in aggressive decisions. Even a simple delay of a car not driving off when the lights turn green can be enough to prompt an aggressive reaction, at least according to a study by Preventis, as if we didn´t know, with a survey of 1,000 drivers, that revealed that 40% of Spanish drivers are very disturbed by traffic incidents and only 17% say they remain unchanged. The first and most important advice to avoid being a victim of an escalating incident is to not engage in any way. Avoid eye contact, stay calm, don´t react, and, if possible, leave the road as soon as you can to escape from the situation, stopping and calming down if necessary. Having a passenger note the registration number of the vehicle may prove useful, but not to antagonise the situation, still, do not engage in any way.
You can report the behavior later to the Guardia Civil, and, if you have dashcam footage for example, you can show that to the officers afterwards, you do not need to engage or get involved at the time, you can report it at the earliest convenience. In the event of the situation appearing to continue, even though you have tried to escape, you can call for assistance by dialing 112 immediately, reporting your position, but still avoiding eye contact and not engaging with the other people involved. The Guardia Civil will take action if they feel it necessary, but in any case will at least have a record of the incident should it happen again in the future. Actions such as insulting other drivers, cutting them up, being immersed in a fight, or crashing into another vehicle and fleeing, are traffic safety infractions covered by the Penal Code. Specifically, the act of insulting other drivers is a violation as established in article 18 of the General Circulation Regulations, “the driver of a vehicle is obliged to maintain his own freedom of movements, the necessary field of vision and the permanent attention to driving … ». The mild insults are punishable in the criminal code with a fine of 10 to 20 days taking into account the personal and economic circumstances of the defendant, and the non-payment may entail the fulfilment of prison.

THINGS TO DO & places to see...
Zaragoza Approx 700km from Mojacar (about a 7 hour drive) with a rich blend of the historic and modern, Zaragoza sits on the banks of the Ebro River. Stroll in the centre of town near San Miguel’s pedestrian ways or around the Plaza de los Sitios, where you find boutiques, markets and souvenir shops. A centre for gastronomy, Zaragoza offers food and drink for every budget and taste. But tapas is a must! In 2008, Zaragoza hosted the International Exhibition; the Water Tower, Bridge Pavilion and River Aquarium show off of the city’s avant-garde architecture. Calle de Alfonso, looking towards the Basilica Zaragoza, also called Saragossa in English, is the capital city of the Zaragoza province and of the autonomous community of Aragon, Spain. It lies by the Ebro river and its tributaries, the Huerva and the Gállego, roughly in the centre of both Aragon and the Ebro basin. On 1st September 2010 the population of the city of Zaragoza was 701,090 within its administrative limits on a land area of 1,062.64 square kilometres (410.29 square miles), ranking fifth in Spain. It is the 32nd most populous municipality in the European Union. The population of the metropolitan area was estimated in 2006 at 783,763 inhabitants. The municipality is home to more than 50 percent of the Aragonese population. The city lies at an elevation of 199 metres (653 feet) above sea level.
MAIN SIGHTS Near the basilica on the banks of the Ebro are located the city hall, the Lonja (old currency exchange), La Seo (literally “the See” in the Aragonese language) or Cathedral of San Salvador, a church built over the main mosque (partially preserved in the 11th-century north wall of the Parroquieta), with Romanesque apses from the 12th century; inside, the imposing hallenkirche from the 15th to 16th centuries, the Baroque tower, and finally, with its famous Museum of Tapestries near the Roman ruins of forum and port city wall. Some distance from the centre of the old city is the Moorish castle (or palace) Aljafería, the most important Moorish buildings in northern Spain and the setting for Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Il trovatore (The Troubadour). The Aragonese parliament currently sits in the building.
The city is famous for its folklore, local gastronomy, and landmarks such as the Basílica del Pilar, La Seo Cathedral and the Aljafería Palace. Together with La Seo and the Aljafería, several other buildings form part of the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragon which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Fiestas del Pilar are among the most celebrated festivals in Spain. Zaragoza is home to a Spanish Air Force base, which was shared with the U.S. Air Force until 1994. In English, the base was known as Zaragoza Air Base. The Spanish Air Force maintained a McDonnell Douglas F/A-18 Hornet wing at the base. No American flying wings (with the exception of a few KC-135’s) were permanently based there, but it served as a training base for American fighter squadrons across Europe. It is also the main headquarters for the Spanish Land Army, hosting the Academia General Militar, a number of brigades at San Gregorio, and other garrisons. 12

Waterpark “Luis Buñuel”
OUT & ABOUT The Ebro River and its surroundings are Zaragoza’s main ecological area. You only have to go for a walk along the river to see its importance in the history of the city.
The churches of San Pablo, Santa María Magdalena and San Gil Abad were built in the 14th century, but the towers may be old minarets dating from the 11th century; San Miguel (14th century); Santiago (San Ildefonso) and the Fecetas monastery are Baroque with Mudéjar ceilings of the 17th century. All the churches are Mudéjar monuments that comprise a World Heritage Site. Other important sights are the stately houses and palaces in the city, mainly of the 16th century: palaces of the count of Morata or Luna (Audiencia), Deán, Torrero (colegio de Arquitectos), Don Lope or Real Maestranza, count of Sástago, count of Argillo (today the Pablo Gargallo museum), archbishop, etc.
There are numerous points of interest along the Ebro River as it passes through the capital of Aragon, and one the most interesting is the Water Park in the Ranillas meander. This is an area of approximately 120 hectares around the International Exhibition grounds which features a combination of extensive green areas, services and both recreational and sports areas, including a golf course. This is also one of the highlights on the “Bizi Tour”, a guided visit by bike along the rehabilitated banks of the Ebro River. Visitors can also enjoy a visit to the protected natural area known as the Galacho de Juslibol, less than 5 kilometres from the city centre. Don’t miss this unique area with its priceless landscapes, ecology and culture. It is also well worth visiting the Galacho de la Alfranca, a refuge for small ducks, black and white poplars and willows which can be reached on the tourist train which departs from Azud del Ebro.

QUITE INTERESTING fun facts and figures...
the Summer
SOLSTICE The summer solstice always occurs between June 20th and June 22nd, but because the calendar doesn't exactly reflect the Earth's rotation, the precise time shifts slightly each year. For 2018, the sun reached its greatest height in the sky for the Northern Hemisphere on June 21st so soak up some of those direct sunrays (safely, of course) and celebrate the start of summer with these solstice facts.
5. IN ANCIENT EGYPT, IT HERALDED THE NEW YEAR. In Ancient Egypt, the summer solstice preceded the appearance of the Sirius star, which the Egyptians believed was responsible for the annual flooding of the Nile that they relied upon for agriculture. Because of this, the Egyptian calendar was set so that the start of the year coincided with the appearance of Sirius, just after the solstice.
1. WHERE THE NAME COMES FROM. The term "solstice" is derived from the Latin words sol (sun) and sistere (to stand still), because the sun's relative position in the sky at noon does not appear to change much during the solstice and its surrounding days. The rest of the year, the Earth's tilt on its axis—roughly 23.5 degrees—causes the sun's path in the sky to rise and fall from one day to the next.
6. EARTH IS ACTUALLY FARTHEST FROM THE SUN. You might think that because the solstice occurs in summer that it means the Earth is closest to the sun in its elliptical revolution. However, the Earth is actually closest to the sun when the Northern Hemisphere experiences winter and is farthest away during the summer solstice. The warmth of summer comes exclusively from the tilt of the Earth's axis, and not from how close it is to the sun at any given time.
2. THE WORLD'S BIGGEST BONFIRE. Celebrations have been held in conjunction with the solstice in cultures around the world for hundreds of years. Among these is Sankthans, or "Midsummer," which is celebrated on June 24th in Scandinavian countries. In 2016, the people of Ålesund, Norway, set a world record for the tallest bonfire with their 155.5-foot celebratory bonfire. 3. THE HOT WEATHER FOLLOWS BY A FEW WEEKS. You may wonder why, if the solstice is the longest day of the year— and thus gets the most sunlight—the temperature usually doesn't reach its annual peak until a month or two later. It's because water, which makes up most of the Earth's surface, has a high specific heat, meaning it takes a while to both heat up and cool down. Because of this, the Earth's temperature takes about six weeks to catch up to the sun. 4. THOUSANDS GATHER AT STONEHENGE. People have long believed that Stonehenge was the site of ancient druid solstice celebrations because of the way the sun lines up with the stones on the winter and summer solstices. While there's no proven connection between Celtic solstice celebrations and Stonehenge, meaning it may all be rather fruitless, thousands of modern pagans gather at the landmark every year to watch the sunrise on the solstice. 16
7. IRONICALLY, IT MARKS A DARK TIME IN SCIENCE. Legend has it that it was on the summer solstice in 1633 that Galileo was forced to recant his declaration that the Earth revolves around the Sun (It was firmly believed in those times that the Earth was the centre of the Universe and everything revolved around us, known as "Geocentricism") Even with doing so, he still spent the rest of his life under house arrest because of his original theories that it was, in fact, a Heliocentric universe.

No tennis player since Andre Agassi has captivated the world like Rafael Nadal. He’s a rarity in today’s sporting arena - a true sportsman who chooses to let his raw talent, dedication and humility define him. Rapidly closing in on his friend and rival Roger Federer’s record haul of 16 grand slam victories, Nadal is an extraordinary competitor whose ferocity on court is made even more remarkable by his grace off it. This book takes us to the heart of Nadal’s childhood, his growth as a player, and his incredible career. It includes memorable highs and lows, from victory in the 2008 Wimbledon final - a match that John McEnroe called the ‘greatest game of tennis ever played’ - to the injury problems that have frequently threatened his dominance of the sport, to becoming the youngest player of the open era to complete a career Grand Slam in 2010. It transports us from Nadal’s lifelong home on the island of Majorca to the locker room of Centre Court as he describes in detail the pressures of competing in the greatest tournament in the world.
Fifteen years after his massive bestseller Serious, John McEnroe is back and ready to talk. Who are the game’s winners and losers? What’s it like playing guitar onstage with the Rolling Stones, hitting balls with today’s greats, breaking bread with his former on-court nemeses, getting scammed by an international art dealer, and raising a big family while balancing McEnroe-sized expectations? But Seriously is a richly personal account, blending anecdote and reflection with razor sharp and brutally honest opinions. This is the sports book of the year: wildly entertaining, very funny, surprisingly touching, and 100% McEnroe.
“In the middle of the night, a father and his daughter step off a Greyhound bus in Florida and head straight to the Nick Bollettieri Tennis Academy. They ring the bell, though no one is expecting them and they don’t speak English. They have arrived from Russia with just seven hundred dollars and the conviction that this six-year-old girl will be the world’s next great tennis star. They are right. This is Maria Sharapova’s gripping and fearless autobiography, telling her story from her roots in the small Siberian town her parents fled to after the Chernobyl disaster, through her arrival in the US with nothing and her phenomenal rise to success - winning Wimbledon aged just seventeen to the disasters that threatened her career and her fight back. Here the five-time Grand Slam winner gives us candid insights into her relationship with her father, who gave up his job and life in Russia to dedicate himself to his daughter; the truth behind her famous rivalry with Serena Williams; the injuries and suspension controversy that threatened to end it all; and her recent battle to get back on court.

LIFESTYLE Health & Well-being
Shape up FOR SUMMER! What’s not to love about summer? We get outdoor workouts, BBQs, frozen cocktails, and well-deserved time away from the grind. But while the living is easy, so are the opportunities to scrap your usual clean-eating ways. “Summer can turn into a season of letting loose,” points out Hollywood-based nutritionist Lisa De Fazio, RD. “That’s all great, just not if you’re trying
to enter the fall feeling your absolute best.” The smartest approach is to focus on what you can do more often (take extra steps outside, eat vegetables in the morning) rather than subtract things you love (Frappuccinos, food groups—no way). Just read these simple steps and you should have no problem staying your strongest, slimmest self.
BEFORE THE EXERCISE... Drink Up It’s a myth that guzzling lots of water makes you bloated. In fact, not hydrating often enough causes you to retain water underneath the skin’s surface, giving you a puffy look. For the next 72 hours, cut out diuretics like caffeine and alcohol and sip six to eight glasses of H2O a day. Not only will you appear slimmer, you’ll seem more toned, because your body will create a reserve of water below your muscles, pressing them out and adding definition. Pasta We love pasta too, but it’s only for a few days, and it makes a huge difference if your body can’t rely on carbohydrates for energy, that’s when it will start to burn fat. Instead, stick to lean protein (poultry, fish, legumes, and eggs) and veggies. You’ll probably feel hungrier, so eat five to six mini-meals a day. And since fruit contains high levels of sugar, limit yourself to just one or two pieces at most, prior to 2 p.m. so your body has enough time to fully digest it.
22
Lose Weight While You Sleep If you want to speed up your metabolism, get at least six to eight hours of shut-eye. Your body restores itself during sleep, so it’s operating at peak capacity which includes ensuring food is processed as quickly and efficiently as possible. Go crazy for fruit and veg During summer it’s more important than ever to stay hydrated and the good news is, fruit and vegetables count towards our daily fluid intake. Eating more fresh fruit and veg during summer is an easy way to increase our water intake thanks to their high water percentage. As well as being hydrating, orange or red fruits also contain beta-carotenes which help to protect our skin from the sun – so get plenty of those. When it comes to veg, opt for brightly or darklycoloured leaves - like watercress or rocket - which are full of antioxidants. It’s also worth checking what’s in season. Not only is it better for the environment, but studies have found more nutrients in produce bought seasonally.”
EAT HEALTHY: feel healthy These Lifestyle articles are to be used as a guide or reference only. Ultimate Magazine has gathered this information from internet sources and therefore can not be held responsible for any misdiagnosis of symptoms or medical complications from a change of diet or injury from exercise. Always consult your doctor or a health official for your own personal requirements or with any queries relating to any of our featured articles.
Make your own ice lollies Before you reach for the Haagen Dazs, check your fridge for the following: soft fruits (like berries, nectarines or plums) and Greek yogurt. By blending the two together with a dash of honey, you’ve made a healthy ice lolly mix - just pop into moulds and freeze. If you fancy something sweeter and more of a ‘treat’, try banana lolly idea. Slice a banana in half and pop it on a lolly stick, before dipping it in melted chocolate and nuts. Then freeze on a baking tray.” The benefits? “They’re much lower in sugar than regular lollies and full of vitamins and healthy fats (if you add nuts). And because frozen foods take longer to eat, you’ll feel more satisfied, too. Snack wisely Summer brings so many delicious snacking options, you might never return to plain old crisps in front of the TV. As well as plenty of fresh fruit (watermelon triangles on sticks anyone?) here are a few other favourites. Edamame beans are a great snack during summer - they’re a good source of protein and fibre and plenty of cafés and supermarkets sell them. Popcorn is another smart choice - it contains less calories than crisps (just avoid the sugary flavours). Some love chopping up tomatoes and sprinkling them with feta and a few olives for a savoury snack too, or adding Greek yogurt to fruit you’ve yet to use up (it’s a great source of protein). Be smart about smoothies While it’s tempting to glug down litres of smoothies or juices in the summer months, the warning is to be wary. Many suggest going for smoothies over juices since they contain the whole fruit (so plenty of fibre, which makes them more filling). Juices can be sugary, so try drinking half-juice and half-sparkling water to make a cool, long drink for the garden (it halves the sugars and calories).
and soda for every other drink. If you love cocktails, an easy way to cut calories and sugar is to make clear drinks like gin with plenty of tonic water - adding berries to infuse it, served in a large glass with plenty of ice. For a non-alcoholic option, try cold-brewing hibiscus flowers for a refreshing iced tea. If you can get hold of hibiscus flowers - just brew them cold overnight (it’s less bitter than brewing hot) and sweeten with a little honey for a great source of antioxidants that’s also low in sugar. Think about those ‘extras’ It’s easy to think you’re eating ‘healthily’ when your plate is loaded with delicious salads and veg, but think about your sauces and dressings, too. Often salad dressings are full of fat, sugar and calories - sometimes more than the salad itself. While olive oil is great (it has anti-inflammatory properties) it’s still high in calories. Instead, try mixing lemon and vinegar with a little mustard for a dressing, or make your own healthy tzatziki by mixing yogurt and grated cucumber (squeeze the cucumber in a kitchen towel first to get rid of excess moisture) with garlic and salt. Up your fish intake It’s recommended we eat at least two portions of fish a week (including one serving of oily fish) but are you hitting that target? Fish is a really good source of protein and it’s so simple to prepare in the summer when you can just pop it on the BBQ in some foil. Load it with fresh herbs like parsley and coriander (stuff them inside with lemon and olive oil) or sprinkle with jerk spices. Make another healthy seasoning by chopping up garlic, ginger and chilli mixed with soy sauce - it really changes a meal and you’re getting all the benefits from those fresh ingredients too.
Same goes for cocktails, too Instead of loading up on pre-mixed cocktails at home or hitting the bar for frozen daiquiris, try DIY drinks for a healthy twist. Most frozen cocktails are really high in sugar, so a good tip is to alternate drinks - having something like vodka 23

“If each photograph steals a bit of the soul, isn't it possible that I give up pieces of mine every time I take a picture?" Richard Avedon.
PHOTOGRAPHERSOFINFLUENCE Richard Avedon
His photographic career can be said to have started with the Merchant Marines, taking ID shots of the crewmen with a Rolleiflex camera his father had given him as a gift. In 1944, Avedon began working as an advertising photographer for a department store, but was quickly endorsed by Alexey Brodovitch, who was art director for the fashion magazine Harper's Bazaar. In 1946, Avedon had set up his own studio and began providing images for magazines including Vogue and Life. He soon became the chief photographer for Harper's Bazaar. From 1950 he also contributed photographs to “Life”, “Look” and “Graphis” and in 1952 became Staff Editor and photographer for Theatre Arts Magazine. Avedon did not conform to the standard technique of taking studio fashion photographs, where models stood emotionless, statuelike and frozen in time. Instead the exuberant young photographer, who legendarily never stood still, enlivened his models and, most importantly, showed their human side, flaws and all which was revolutionary at the time. However, towards the end of the 1950s he became dissatisfied with daylight photography and open air locations and so turned to studio photography, using strobe lighting. He is probably best known, however, for his arresting, black-andwhite and often large-format portraits of people, whether celebrities or unknowns, which are as much psychological studies as physical

ones. Ranging between the commercial work he did as a fashion photographer and the ground-breaking fine art portraiture, the breadth and creativity of Avedon's body of work has made him one of the most influential photographers of the 20th century. His photographs, claimed the New York Times, "helped define America's image of style and beauty and culture" since the 1950s. Avedon's mastery of portraiture had as much to do with his rapport with his subjects as his technical ability. His customary practice was to establish an intimacy between himself and his model, gaining trust became an art form in itself for Avedon. His deeply candid, emotive portraits, helped reconfigure photography as an expressive art form. His portraits are most often unsettling and in many cases deeply disturbing. The subjects take up much of the composition, sometimes even exceeding its boundaries and seem unintentionally cropped. The effect of the close-up is not only to provide details, including physical imperfections, but to also make the viewer feel as if they are intruding into the models private, personal space. Additionally, Avedon's signature white backgrounds offer no context; there is no story but that of the face and body of the subject. Usually the portraits are black-and-white, which also seems less flattering or forgiving. In Avedon's view, color creates an unwanted distraction from the frank visual scrutiny of each subject.

Wine Not Mojácar
Wine Not Mojácar is a winery and delicatessen shop and bar which offers a cured selection of wines and gourmet products from Spain in a unique environment in Mojácar. We want our customers to have an unforgettable experience, that is why you can have most of our wines by the glass, we want you to enjoy the best one for you! This month we want to introduce a new organic and biodynamic Rosé: Indigena Rosé from Parés Baltá wineries in Barcelona.
The winery
The roots of Parés Baltà go back to the 18th century. In 1790 the first vines were planted on the estate that now surrounds the winery. Today however, more than 220 years later, almost everything is different. In 1978, Mr Joan Cusiné Hill took over the winery. Born in 1917 in Bellvei del Penedès, Mr Joan Cusiné Hill came from a family of vine growers and, already from the age of seven, he helped his father to cultivate the vineyards and he never stopped working. At the age of 80 he even helped his grandsons to care for a part of the vineyard. His son Joan Cusiné Cusiné started to manage Pares Baltà in the eighties and released its first still white wine, “Blanc de Pacs” which is still produced today. At the end of the eighties the first red wine from the company was produced, and since then we have enthusiastically been attempting everything to raise the quality of our wines. Since 2000 the management has been in the hands of the two grandsons, Joan and Josep Cusiné Carol. They have brought new and fresh ideas into the company but they have also shown respect for its tradition and guarded the heritage. The wives of Joan and Josep, Maria Elena Jimenez and Marta Casas are the winemakers & oenologists. They have continued to develop new wines & increased the focus on quality.

Nowadays, Parés Baltà produces a wide range of high quality wines and cavas that have been both nationally and internationally acclaimed. Always keeping quality in mind, our aim is to produce some of the best and most interesting wines in the world. Wines and Cavas are produced from grapes of 5 different estates, situated around the mountains of Penedés. The altitude varies from 170 to 750 m, and offers a diverse mixture of soils and microclimates which provides a special personality to their wines. The practice of organic and biodynamic farming (using their own flock of sheep to fertilize and bees to help pollinate the vines) brings the essence of the Mediterranean ecosystem to their grapes.
Indigena Rosé
Grape variety: Grenache Vineyard: Finca Les Torres, 616m.
Winemaking:
After a light skin maceration to obtain this pale colour, the grapes were lightly pressed and then fermented in stainless steel tanks during 2 weeks at an average temperature of 16°C.
Tasting note:
Very pale rosé colour. On the nose it surprises for its intensity, ripen red fruits are predominating aromas. On the mouth is elegant, smooth and fruity, with a very good acidity. Serving temperature: 7 – 10° C
Suggested pairing:
Appetizers, meat or fish rice, grilled white meat, salads, delicate starters, seafood, roasted white fish, vegetables.

DISCOVERING CADIZ Cadiz is situated on the West coast of Spain above Gibraltar and below Portugal in the province of Andalucía and believed to be the oldest continuously inhabited city in Western Europe.
by Hispavan Cadiz is known for its wonderful seafood, blue flag beaches and historic centre with a variety of fascinating attractions so it is well worth a visit.
de camarones (shrimp fritters), sopa marinera (fish soup) or a platter of deep-fried fish served with a squeeze of lemon and a glass of chilled local white wine (fino, very light and dry).
An ideal base to discover this area from is Camping Playa Las Dunas de San Anton located opposite the La Puntilla beach and beside 70 hectors of pine forest in the lovely fishing town of El Puerta de Santa Maria (across the bay from Cadiz).
One restaurant well worth a visit here is Restaurante Romerijo found on the waterfront in El Puerta de Santa Maria where they offer more than 50 different varieties of the freshest fish and seafood, that they sell by the weight and cook for you to enjoy on their outside terraces. Not a cheap meal but one that you will remember for a long time.
The site has pitches of 70m2 to 100m2 both with or without shade. There are also various bungalows to rent catering for 2 or 4 people. The facilities are good including an outdoor swimming pool with separate kiddie’s pool, a supermarket, bar and restaurant. Having spent time on this site during the Jerez Moto GP one year we can say that even when the place is full the staff kept the site and the facilities extremely clean and tidy 24 hours a day. The atmosphere was friendly, all be it a little noisy (not normally) with all the motorbikes during the Grand Prix. Windsurfing and water skiing can be found nearby at Port Sherry (turn right out of the site and follow the promenade) along with sailing, kite surfing and kayaking. Combine one of these with an enjoyable meal at one of the many restaurants found lining the port. It is worth having a wander around Puerta de Santa Maria´s old town with pavements shaded by orange trees and buildings decorated with hand-painted tiles and wrought-iron balconies. Visit the San Marcos Castle and other places of interest (visit the information centre to see these). This is the port which Christopher Columbus set sail from on his second voyage to the Americas. Enjoy some of the local dishes including Tortillita
El Puerta de Santa Maria is part of the Sherry Triangle along with Jerez de la Frontera and Sanlucar de Barrameda. The best-known Bodega here is Osborne's, creators of the legendary Black Bull logo seen throughout Spain and still run by the same family. There are daily tours (10am in English) which include tasting of the products. Turning left from the entrance to the campsite a 20-minute walk brings you to the Ferry Terminal where you can catch the high-speed Catamaran across the bay to Cadiz. There are sailings each hour during the day (best to check the timetable) and takes about 30 minutes, costing 3 Euros per person. If the water makes you a bit queasy, take the bus instead. Go early and make a day of it because there is plenty to do and see in Cadiz. Directly outside of the port you will find the Hop-on Hop-off open top bus tour station. Here you can buy a ticket which enables you to travel on the tour buses during 24 hours. The buses leave every 20 to 30 minutes from 10am to 6pm and a full loop covering the 12 stops takes about 60 minutes. Then you can decide what you want to see in more detail.

SENIORS USPGA Champions Tour, The Senior Open Championship. St.Andrews 26th – 29th July
The Old Course at St. Andrews, which has been a regular host to the world’s oldest and most international major championship for more than 140 years, will achieve another historic milestone from July 26-29, 2018, by hosting the Senior Open Championship presented by Rolex for the first time. Today’s momentous announcement, which was made jointly by The R&A and the European Tour at The Home of Golf, completes the full set of major championships to be held over the Old Course. “This is great news and will surely deliver the best field ever assembled for the Senior Open Championship. All credit to the powers that be to get the Senior Open at St. Andrews for the first time. Even now, more than two years out, I am excited about the prospect. It’s a real coup for The R&A, the European Senior Tour, St. Andrews Links Trust, Rolex and everyone associated with the event to get us playing senior golf at St Andrews. Five time Open Championship winner and three time Senior Open Champion Tom Watson will return to St Andrews after thinking the 2015 Open Championship would have been his last competitive outing to The Home of Golf. Although Watson never won at St Andrews, there are other notable players who have and who are now among the senior ranks. These include Sir Nick Faldo and John Daly. The 144th Open in 2015 was the 29th occasion on which the Championship has been played at St. Andrews. The Old Course will now become the 13th venue to accommodate 52
the Senior Open Championship, which this year celebrates its 30th anniversary with a return to another famous Scottish venue at Carnoustie. Martin Slumbers, Chief Executive of The R&A, and European Tour CEO, Keith Pelley, welcomed the decision to bring the Senior Open to an iconic location with which many of the world’s greatest senior golfers have a strong affinity.

The Ricoh Women’s British Open will take place at Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club for a fifth time in 2018 on 2nd August. The Championship was last played there in 2009 when Catriona Matthew famously became the first Scottish woman to clinch a Major title, remarkably only 11 weeks after giving birth to her second daughter. Matthew, who was a member of this summer’s UK Olympic team and was recently announced as a Vice Captain for the 2017 Solheim Cup, commented, “I am absolutely delighted to hear the 2018 Ricoh Women’s British Open will be played at Royal Lytham. Winning there so soon after Sophie’s birth was undoubtedly the best achievement in my career and I think it is wonderful news that we will be returning there in a couple of years.” Sherri Steinhauer won the first Championship held at the venerable Lancashire venue back in 1998. Sweden’s Annika Sorenstam followed the American into the winner’s circle when the Championship was held there in 2003 and then Steinhauer emerged victorious for a third time – the American also won at Woburn Golf & Country Club in 1999 – when she closed with a level par 72 to defeat compatriot, Christie Kerr, in 2006.
Charles Grimley, Secretary, Royal Lytham & St Annes Golf Club, said, “Our membership is very excited to welcome back another Ricoh Women’s British Open. It is a tournament with a very special feel to it which I suspect is largely thanks to the wonderfully engaging personalities on the women’s tours. This will be very popular news in the area and we will all look forward to 2018 very much.” Trish Wilson, Chairman Ladies’ Golf Union’s, added, “Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club is a very popular venue amongst the players and we are very happy to be returning there for a fifth time in 2018. Our commitment is to ensure the Championship is held at Britain’s best courses and there is no doubt that Royal Lytham lives up to this criteria.” The Ricoh Women’s British Open was founded by the LGU in 1976 and has been staged in conjunction with IMG, the world’s largest sports marketing company, since 1984. The event has been co-sanctioned by the LPGA and LET since 1994 and gained Major status in 2001.
Royal Lytham and St Annes Golf Club is one of the most challenging of the Open and Ricoh Women’s British Open venues with 169 bunkers to challenge the players. The Club has hosted eleven Open Championships, the most recent in 2012, won by South Africa’s Ernie Els.

...AWAY Kitesurfing is a high adrenaline sport that is becoming increasingly popular all over the world. More and more young people take up kitesurfing because it’s actually quite simple to learn, much easier than windsurfing for example, and does not require a great level of fitness.

The Andaluscian Costa de la Luz is a top destination for kitesurfers from all over the Europe, all year round. The best kitesurfing season on the Costa de la Luz is June through to October.

The amazing beaches of Tarifa in particular, which look as if custom-made for kitesurfing, have become the most popular spot for kitesurfers. With around 30 kitesurfing schools, plenty of sports shops where you can buy all the equipment and outfits for kitesurfing, windsurfing and surfing, Tarifa has recently turned into a real international water sports centre.

ALMERIMAR – Playa de Almerimar (Beach Club) is popular Mojácar’s own international star, Osaïa Reding, won the Junior Kitesurf world championship last year, placing her firmly at the top of this risky sport, even though at age 13 she is the youngest on the circuit. This talented youngster’s track record speaks for itself and, her winning formula has earned her a gold medal as champion of Spain, as well as fifth place in the European Championship. This first world title, which will no doubt be followed by others, was won at Saint Pere Pescador on the Costa Brava, where her 23 points put her way ahead of the runner up’s score of 12. Her emotional reaction “I don’t believe it”, sums up her commendable modesty, whose countless days of dedicated training, along with her aptitude and skill, set her above her rivals. She displays maturity beyond her years and, whilst thrilled with the results of her hard work, she has plenty of admiration for her talented opponents. The wealth of experiences she has had already in her short life have taught her to advise all young people to reach for the stars and never give up.

CLEANING our beaches
Friday 8th June saw the first annual event for World Oceans Day organised by Coastal Cleaners Andalucia, a local group who have been cleaning up our coastline. This International event celebrates our oceans and seas and aims to help spread both a love of the water and educate people as to how we can look after it and marine life better. The focus this year was unsurprisingly plastic. Since the so called ‘Blue Planet effect’ hit on a large scale, people all over the world have been taking action to remove plastic and man made rubbish from our seas.
Coastal Cleaners Andalucia volunteers worked together with local groups, artists and individuals to create a 10 meter mural using plastic found on beach cleans. Designed by Jannette Fewings, it carried a message in both Spanish and English highlighting the importance of using rubbish bins and not leaving anything on the beach . The event was supported by David and Vanessa from Sama2005.com who bought along beach ashtrays which they exchanged for litter on the day and Kayaks for people to do a try out session on the water. On the following Saturday night there was a fantastic Caribbean themed beach party night at Bar La Reva in Vera Playa. The bar has helped raise funds so that the team can buy gloves and other litter picking equipment. Since the creation of the group back in March this year, there have been 7 litter picks in locations ranging from beyond Villaricos to Garrucha. Around 200 bags of plastic and rubbish have been collected and disposed of from beaches and coastlines with an additional 1.5 tonnes from one clean at the Tanatorio in Garrucha. Beach and coastal clean ups are being organised regularly and event information can be found by liking Coastal Cleaners Andalucia on Facebook. 57

MENORCA Mallorca Menorca Ibiza
The Eastern most point of Spain and a cultural melting pot, Menorca is steeped in History and heritage.
Mojácar
History
Menorca has been, from prehistory to very recent times, a crossroad point for many different cultures because of its strategic situation in the centre of the western Mediterranean. It has been considered both a port of call and a place of refuge by these different races. They have left the island a rich historical legacy. Human presence on the island can be traced back from the early Bronze Age (2000 AD), called the pre-talayotic period. Towards 1400 AD these inhabitants built huge stone constructions known as talayots, this era encompasses the richest period of island pre-history, and its most exceptional monument was the taula. In the year 123 AD Menorca became part of the Roman empire but after the decline of Rome - like the rest of the Balearic archipelago - Menorca suffered successive invasions by vandals and Byzantines, until at the beginning of the X century it became part of Islam, initially ruled by the Emirate of Córdoba and later by the Tarifa of Denia. After almost 400 years of Muslim domination, in 1287 the Christian king Alfonso III the Liberal conquered Menorca and placed it under the rule of the crown of Aragón and then the kingdom of Majorca. In the XVIII century Menorca was transformed once again as a result of European events and this time, due to the War of Succession, it fell into English hands in 1713. The island remained in their power for the next hundred years with the exception of some brief periods of French and Spanish rule. During this time the English reinforced the coastal defences and built important public buildings. 58
The XX century saw the development and success of many different industries on the island, but from the 80’s tourism became the primary source of income and work. This period also saw the transition of democratic progress with the development of independent local institutions and islandgovernment.
Natural Biosphere Reserve
UNESCO recognized Menorca as a natural biosphere reserve on 8th of October of 1993, taking into consideration its high degree of compatibility achieved between the development of economic activities, expenditure and the conservation of a heritage and landscape that has maintained, and continues maintaining today, an exceptional quality. Menorca has a very rich and traditional rural countryside. It hosts a remarkable diversity of Mediterranean habitats in which rare animal species and plants live, some of them in threat of extinction.
Location
Menorca is about one hour’s flight from most Spanish cities and two from the main European cities. This makes for a perfect and easily accessible holiday destination. Menorca has always been a stop-off point for many different cultures. Since prehistory they have sought shelter and refuge on our island, so strategically located and with the largest natural harbour in the heart of the Mediterranean. Each of these different cultures has left an important historic legacy, of which and they are very proud. Historians and archaeologists
look on the island as a true open-air museum, and marvel at the wealth of heritage on such a small island.
Towns
Menorca has a population of 67,000 inhabitants, concentrated in its eight municipalities: Maó, the administrative capital of the island, Ciutadella, the old capital, Alaior, Ferreries, Es Mercadal, Es Castell, Sant Lluís and Es Gran Migjorn. There are three other villages; Sant Climent, Llucmaçanes and Fornells, the first two are in the municipality of Maó and the latter is in Es Mercadal. Maó in the east and Ciutadella in the west, are the two most populated towns of the island. Menorca, restaurants, producers, artisans and many others have joined forces to transform the island’s attractions and enhance them to meet your expectations. Member establishments along the four Routes (Cheese, Wine, Traditional Recipes and Seafaring Gastronomy) have committed to adhering to strict quality standards and requirements. In all the places mentioned here you’ll find top quality local products prepared with loving care and displayed in surroundings that won’t disappoint you. Belonging to the Product Club sets high quality standards for restaurants, resulting in a better service for visitors. Plus, the Product Club enables us to preserve, display and publicise Menorca’s gastronomic and cultural heritage, two of our best assets.
COASTAL DELIGHTS
Along the 216 km of coastline there are over 70 beaches and coves, with fine white sand along the south and reddish tones along the wilder north. The geological variety makes it an area of undoubted beauty with stark cliffs and gently sloping beaches. Nautical traditions in the ports still exist as a livelihood for many people, and as leisure for others. Menorca exists turned towards the sea, as the various lighthouses dotted along the coastline remind us.
GETTING THERE
Its always good to let professionals book your trip so why not ask Zafiro Tours (featured below & on the next page) to help you out. For those that might want to make their own way, there are several options available to you. There are no direct scheduled flights from the local airports but you can fly on Iberia from Almeria (Via Madrid) for as little as 150€ return which is not too bad.
The whole landscape welcomes visitors with open arms Families will find ideas and facilities to enjoy holidays with children. Couples and friends can stay in ‘adults only’ accommodation and finish off a day spent on the beach or exploring by making the most of the local night-life.
Alternatively, and for those of you that want a little more adventure, you could fly Almeria to Mallorca direct (from 99€ return) and then get a ferry to Menorca for as little as 45€ return.
Gastronomy Product Club
STAYING THERE
The Gastronomy Product Club was set up in Menorca to offer you a series of high added value experiences. Across
As always, there are many options available to you from Air BnB to hotels, hostels and rentals so check your preferred option online. Prices range dramatically but for an idea, 2 can stay for 7 nights (double room) for around 400€ out of season in a reasonable guest house/aparthotel. Happy travelling!

LOCAL INFO whats on, contacts and more... Villaricos, May 19th
WACKY RACES What a marvellous afternoon we had - in between the Royal Wedding and the Cup Final this year's Wacky Races Villaricos saw a grand turnout of supporters and some keen racing with supporting events. There were some let-downs at the last minute but 'you couldn't see the join' as they say!
We have already purchased 2 new electronic whiteboards for the village school, and made donations to two local groups. Any further distributions will be decided in September when we begin planning for next year's event which we expect to be held on April 27th 2019.
In the Seniors Race, Lucky Bar won for the third year in a row. They were also the first winners of the Tom Tannant Trophy, created in memory of our late Race Marshall who passed away on the Race weekend last year. His family came over from UK to present the trophies.
We recently discovered that our relationship with AMPA, the school's parents association, has resulted in our team being nominated for an award - we will learn more about this before the presentation date in mid-September.
Second were Bar La Plaza and a gallant third were El Tanque who had earlier won the junior races. For the smaller children there were a variety of races - egg & spoon, musical chairs, relays etc. All the younger ones who took part were given a Wacky Races badge and bag. Right through the afternoon the legend that is Ian the DJ kept things moving and we were pleased to have four dance groups along - Flamenco school, Gymnastics, Dusty Boots line dancers and Pena Fantasia, the village Carnival dancers. Also there were bouncy castles, a teddy-bear/toy tombola and stalls.
Next year we will again make some changes and seek to keep advancing the total funds we generate to help Villaricos village and local deserving causes. Anyone interested in helping the group and particularly those wanting to enter a team should contact WACKY RACES VILLARICOS. There is a facebook page, wackyracesvillaricos, and the email address is: wackyraces2017@gmail.com You can also contact the organiser direct on: 634 368 243.
The team have to thank everyone who attended, those who raced and those who simply supported, the businesses who sponsored and those who donated raffle prizes, most notably Alan & Debbie Whitehead who gave their apartment for a week's holiday. Muriel the raffle ticket-seller and Lawrie's ticket-ripping gang. There is still a little money to come in and the odd expense to cover but we have so far raised €1478 - €80 more than last year's record €1398. 61

MODELS This top 10 list is based on estimated earnings for the year collated from internet sources. Some names you may recognise, some you may not but all doing rather well!
10. Miranda Kerr $6 million
09. Liu Wen $7 million
This Australian model has contracts with Escada fragrance and Wonderba as well as a few of her own brands and is an author. Her early career did raise some controversy though. At an early age she was involved in a Victoria's Secret campaign and this drew light to the troubles of modelling young.
Chinese model Liu Wen was dubbed "China’s first bona fide supermodel" by the New York Times. She is the first model of East Asian descent to walk the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show and the first Asian model to ever make Forbes magazine's annual highest-paid models list.
08. Candice Swanepoel $7.1million
07. Cara Delevingne $8.5 million
This South African supermodel and philanthropist, best known for her work with Victoria's Secret (yes, another one) has been among the Top 10 earning models every year since 2010. She is actively involved in Mothers2Mothers, a charity devoted to achieving an "HIV-free generation" of children and mothers in Africa.
English model turned actress, she signed with Storm Model Management after leaving school. She won the "Model of the Year" award at the British Fashion Awards in 2012 & 2014 and has appeared in shows for houses including Burberry, Chanel, Mulberry, Dolce & Gabbana, and Jason Wu.
66
06. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley $9 million
05. Gigi Hadid $9 million
English model, actress, designer, and businesswoman, she is best known for Victoria's Secret, formerly being one of their "Angels". Also known as the face of Burberry's 2011 brand fragrance "Burberry Body", her work with M&S and most recently, for her artistic collaboration with denim-focused fashion brand Paige.
Hadid's modeling career began when she was two years old after being discovered by Paul Marciano, of Guess clothing. She started modelling with Baby Guess before stopping to concentrate on school. Hadid was named the face of a Guess campaign in 2012 and has shot three campaigns with Guess as an adult.
04. Kendall Jenner $10 million
03. Karlie Kloss $10 million
Originally appearing in the E! reality television show "Keeping Up with the Kardashians", Jenner is now also a model in a movement dubbed "the Instagirl era" by Vogue magazine, or "Social Media Modeling" by Harper's Bazaar, where models are chosen for their online presence and social media following.
Kloss has called her classical ballet training "a beautiful thing" that taught her how to move in the modelling world. She was "discovered at a local benefit runway show" and in April 2018, she was announced as Estée Lauder's newest Global spokesmodel and Brand Ambassador.
02. Adriana Lima $10.5 million
01. Gisele Bündchen $30.5 million
Lima is a Brazilian model and actress, best known as a Victoria's Secret Angel since 1999 (being their longest-running model and named "the most valuable Victoria's Secret Angel" in 2017, and as a spokesmodel for Maybelline cosmetics. She is the current brand ambassador for the Barcelona-based clothing brand Desigual.
Bündchen was the first in a wave of Brazilian models to find international success. In 1999, Vogue noted "The Return of the Sexy Model", and she was credited with ending the "heroin chic" era of modelling. Claudia Schiffer has stated that Bündchen is the only remaining supermodel.
The richest male models in the world! – To borrow a phrase from Ben Stiller’s male model character in the comedy Zoolander, being “professionally good looking” is a career that is neither easy nor lucrative for men. The top 10 earning male models earned a combined total of $8 million last year, a measly amount compared to the $100 million their female counterparts raked in over the same period. Here are just the top 3 of those to give you an idea of the difference.
01. Sean O’Pry $1.5 million
02. David Gandy
Born in the US and discovered in his late teens on his Myspace profile, he has worked with Calvin Klein, Versace, D&G, Ralph Lauren and Michael Kors.
Gandy is the UK’s unofficial ‘Mr Fashion’ with his work promoting British designers but he still found time to bag campaigns for Hugo Boss, Banana Republic and Massimo Dutti.
$1.4 million
03. Simon Nessman
$1.1 million
Canadian-born, at only 23 years old, the British Columbia native is already the face of Giorgio Armani and Michael Kors. He has also worked for Calvin Klein and Versace.

World Cup Stories so far.
The group stages of the World Cup have given us some great action... Alireza Beiranvand (Iran) One of the most uplifting stories of the entire group phase concerned Beiranvand and his performances in so nearly helping Iran to the last 16. Beiranvand was working as a shepherd in the village of Sarab-e Yas when he ran away to Tehran to pursue his dream and, with no money or accommodation, set up camp outside a football club until they let him train. On Monday, he was saving a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty at the World Cup. Andreas Granqvist (Sweden) Sweden conceded only twice in topping a group containing Mexico and Germany and, in Granqvist, they have had a captain who has led at both ends of the pitch. They did eventually succumb against Germany but only after a rearguard action that saw Granqvist and Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof largely stifle wave upon wave of attacks. Granqvist was similarly dominant in negating Mexico and also got forward to score two crucial penalties, including the winner against South Korea where he was named man of the match.
luzhniki stadium
Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal) His hat-trick against Spain remains perhaps the individual performance of the group phase. Four goals in three games to become the leading international goalscorer in European football history has been some start. The free-kick against Spain was also among the best goals but, better than just about anyone else after all Real Madrid’s Champions League success in recent years, Ronaldo will know delivery in the knockout phase is what really counts.
2018 Fifa World Cup: Last 16 (knockout stages).
At time of going to print, these were the last 16 fixtures and possible fixtures for ENGLAND (in yellow) should they win each of their games. We wish them good luck and hope that by the time you’ve read this, we made it to the semi final.

Luka Modric (Croatia) Croatia are one of only three teams to advance with a perfect, winning record and the main reason has been the midďŹ eld partnership between Modric and Ivan Rakitic. They reached their peak in the picking apart of Argentina but have been excellent throughout, with Modric having not only scored twice but passed the ball with his typical class. Having already won the Champions League this year with Real Madrid, a continuation of his performances in the group phase could make him a contender for the Ballon d’Or.

Almeria In the South East corner of Andalucia, Spain. Costa Almeria, a huge expanse of unspoilt coastline between Murcia and Granada. Perhaps not as well known as some of the Costas, yet its inhabitants like the fact its villages retain much of their Spanish identity making it the “real Spain” still. It is known for having the hottest, cleanest and driest climate also of any other Spanish location.
town’s dual identity: part pretty traditional, quiet, hillside village (Pueblo) and part lively beach (Playa) resort affords overseas property buyers the ‘best of both worlds’. Mojácar Pueblo is a picture book village of little whitewashed houses and is nestled in the olive and almond grove dotted foothills of the Sierra Cabrera mountain range.
Beautiful Mojácar remains a hot spot, only 40 minutes drive from the airport of Almeria, it is a favourite for all nationalities as a traditional holiday destination - ideal for families and couples. The
Vera is another hotspot – also divided into Pueblo and Playa areas with direct access to Garrucha – a working port with a new harbour, and the scubadiving centre of Villaricos.
