Artist captures amazing moments depicting Luthuli’s legacy WEEKLY

URBAN businessman Vivian Reddy donated a collection of paintings valued at R3 million to the Luthuli Museum in Groutville on Friday honouring the legacy of Chief Albert Luthuli. The collection of 10 paintings, named The Spirit of Chief Albert Luthuli Series, was painted by the late artist Ronald Harrison who also painted the anti-apartheid piece The Black Christ, which depicted Luthuli as Jesus being crucified by the then prime minister Hendrik Verwoerd and his justice minister John Vorster. The collection, however, does not depict Luthuli himself, but his ideals through which his spirit lives on. Guests at the event included Luthuli family members, ANC Greater KwaDukuza region chairperson Thokozani Msweli, secretary Muzi Sithole, KwaDukuza mayor Ricardo Mthembu, Harrison's niece and her husband Desiree and Derek Phillips (Harrison lived with them before his death) and Consul General of Poland Andrzej Kiepiela among others. At the unveiling ceremony Luthuli’s eldest daughter, Dr Albertina Luthuli spoke of how she had ap-

proached Reddy to “save” the paintings from being auctioned shortly before cancer claimed Harrison's life in June 2011. DrAlbertinasaidshefirstmetHarrison in 2000 when she was a member of Parliament in Cape Town. “While we spoke Harrison told me the amazing story of how he met my fatherandwhyhedecidedtopaintthe The Black Christ. “Through the help of the community, particularly the Indian community at the time, arrangements were made for Harrison to meet my father. “His description of meeting my father really moved me. He told me when he met him he couldn’t take his eyes off his [Luthuli's] face. He said there was something about his eyes that spoke to him. I could understand. My father’s eyes were such that they told stories.” Following the painting of The Black Christ, Harrison was persecuted by the apartheid government and the painting, which was displayed in St Luke’s Church, Cape Town until the police got wind of it, was smuggled to England. “He came out of the [experience] a physically weakened man and he never really got his strength back,”

Luthuli said. DrAlbertinasaidHarrisonwasdetained by the police and was tortured for information about the painting. “Some years later he painted this series. He did not want financial compensation because, like my father, he did not care for money. I persuaded him that he needed the money to care for his ailing mother and sister. He considered an auction, but I was concerned it would be lost to South Africa. That was when Reddy came in.” Reddy said he felt he owed it to Luthuli and the country to make sure the paintings found their way “home”. “I bought the paintings to keep the spirit of Luthuli alive. The paintings have been out there for a while and now they will return to their natural home in the museum. It's where they belong.” Reddy said although he held the rights to the collection, proceeds from reprints would go to charity. Thanking Reddy for the 'magnanimous' gesture, Luthuli Museum chairperson Jabulani Sithole said donations of such a nature and magnitude are rare. “Thank you for your support of our

continued efforts to collect artifacts to preservethelegacyofChiefAlbertLuthuli.”

UMGENI WATER releases annual report >> Finances in order with R500 million surplus

KAVEEL SINGH

PHOTO: KAVEEL SINGH

Thami Hlongwa (general manager finance) delivering his presentation on finances at the Umgeni Water Annual Report 2012/2013

UMGENI Water has reported a surplus of over R500 million for the 2012/2013 period – its highest surplus in the last four years. This was revealed at a media briefing for the report at the Hilton Hotel in Durban on Thursday, 24 October. One of the main highlights was a surplus figure of R583 million that will be used to repay debt and fund further infrastructural developments aimed at assisting municipalities. Umgeni Water caters for six municipalities in KwaZulu-Natal supplying each with bulk water services and infrastructural development. Also announced at the media briefing were three major projects that were completed including the R171 million Maphumulo Bulk Water Supply Scheme Phase 1 project, the R76 million South Coast booster pump station, and the Ugu District and Hazelmere bifurication pipeline valued at R66 million. The second phase of the Maphumulo project is presently underway and is expected to supply 158 000 people with potable water. The state owned entity also committed 49 percent of its total capital

and infrastructure programme budget for the next five years on rural development and community sustainability. The projects will see 538 employment opportunities. Addressing the media, Umgeni Water board member Thabani Zulu said the organisation had also changed its Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Policy (BBBEE). “It is now more focused on job creation with 30 per cent of the total value of each capital project allocated to Black-owned enterprises.” Zulu also thanked the Department of Water Affairs for assisting after it allocated R167 million for developmental projects. “The reality is that in the absence of grant funding, projects of a developmental nature have to be financed through the balance sheet, resulting in impairments which is not idea. We fully recognise the need for citizens in our operational area to have access to safe drinking water.” Chief executive Cyril Gamede said Umgeni Water had nine clear targets for the year and had achieved 91 per cent of them. “Our board sometimes feels our objectives are too low, but the truth is

we strive for only excellence. For example, the tepidity of water should be around 0.5. We prefer to keep our levels around 0.25.” Gamede added that Umgeni had recorded water losses of just under five percent. He said there has been steady improvement in the organisation. “Even in terms of our operationaland financialperformances, things have been good. We have had no breakdowns at all. Our audits are not just unqualified, but also clean. A clean audit represents no mishandling of any kind. We have achieved this a third year in a row.” Gamede said there would be many developmental projects that have been lined up for the upcoming financial year. When questioned of whether this would impact on current consumer tariffs, he was quick to denounce this. “Last year there was an increase of 8.3 percent which is not that much. When we undertake these projects we create business models to ensure they are stable and sustainable with a minimum cost increase to our current consumers. “We do not forsee an adverse impact with any of our current projects.”

NOTHANDO NDLOVU AFTER a series of reports about village fights among Mandeni pupils, the Mandeni mayor alongside the Zero to Hero Motivational speaker, the Department of Community Safety and SAPS held an awareness cam-

Focus on studying not fighting paign at Machibini Sports Field on Friday. Representatives from schools such as, Udumo, Mgandeni and Tshana High Schools where fights occurredattendedtheevent. Thepupils also staged a play to educate youngsters on the danger of village fights. Mayor, Siphesihle Zulu urged the pupils to refrain from crime and ‘petty’ community issues so that they

could ensure they have a brighter future. Zulu said it was the duty of the community to produce a favourable environment for schools to be safe areas of learning. Zero to Hero Motivational speaker Sthembiso Zondo motivated pupils to change their lives by studying hard. Local artists such as Sifiso Ncwane and Ithemba performed at the event.

Dumisani Dludla, who is the founder and chairperson of a ‘nonprofit’ organisation Ibutholamakhehla nezalukazi (Ibutholamanezabo) based in Esikhawini, had called the meetingtoaddressissuesofresidents who did not receive their pension funds after working for local companiessuchasTongaatHullet,Illovoand others. Over 200 people attended the meeting, most of which paid R20 and

more to Dludla for help. When the Weekly entered the premises Jay Steven from Glendale was angry before the meeting started as they had to stand outside the community hall for over an hour. Steven said it was ‘ridiculous’ that the elderly people had to stand outside for such a long time. He was carrying two blank slips he received after paying the required amount. When asked why he had to pay this amount he replied: “We were told we would receive our pension funds.” In his address, Dludla told the crowd that his intention was to help them receive their funds as many of them were exploited. Out of ‘concern’ for the elderly citizens, KwaDukuza municipal manager NJ Mdakane decided to join the meeting. Mdakane pointed out that

the Department of Social Development (DSD) offers the same services for free. “I am concerned that a person like Dludla is charging pensioners R20 for a service which you can receive free of charge at DSD.” “That does not sound right to me. I have parents that are your age and would not like to see them pay to receive help. When Dludla came to my office to book the hall he said his organisationwasassociatedwiththeoffice of the premier, Ingonyama Trust, the Presidency and Uhlanga Lomhlabathi. However, when I contacted the officeofthepremierIwastoldtheydid not know about this organisation. Mthembu arrived at the meeting after the public had shut all the doors demanding their money. Mthembu said he was unaware of

suchameetingandwarnedthepublic not to listen to anybody who claims they will offer people jobs or help them after receiving money. Dludla reiterated that his organisation is not a ‘fly by night’ one as he had been helping people for the past ten years. “I cannot run the organisation without financial support. There are documents that need to be typed and we need to eat during our meetings. The organisation is registered and has a constitution. I have proof of how the money is used. This organisation doesanddidnotforceanyonetomake a payment. We came at KwaDukuza after we were asked to come and render our services.” The seven appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s Court on fraud charges and they were released on bail.

There is no rule to determine whether a mushroom is poisonous or not, withsomeofthemostdeadlyspecies looking similar to those considered safe. Gayapershad encourages people to only eat mushrooms they know are safe. “There are many mushrooms that look very edible, and they can be the most poisonous ones. “There is a mushroom called “The Destroying Angel” which is present in the area.” He said that if this mushroom is consumed there is a 95 per cent chance of dying. “It looks like some of the edible

Stanger Manor Secondary School principal Mervin Gounden said the pupils found their first paper very pleasing and were well prepared. He said: “Like all the other teachersweexpectallourpupilstoperform well even though they are not the same.” Goundensaidhisschoolhasmaintained a 91% pass rate over the past

six years. KwaZulu-NatalDepartmentofEducation spokesperson Muzi Mahlambi said the examinations started very well in all 1733 exam stations. Mahlambi said the department hopes that all those who are writing the exams will receive a fair opportunity to pass. He further stated that they hope all the schools in KZN will get nothing less than an 80% pass rate. “The truth of the matter is that at each home in this province there is a

child who will be writing exams and each family will be expecting their child to pass. “I encourage all the pupils to give their best so that they can make their parents proud.” Mahlambi gave a stern warning to anyindividualwhoisinvolvedinleaking exam papers or anything that is against the law saying that this year the department will take strict measures. The exams will end on 29 November.

cause they haven't taken the time to figure them out. For example, in their careers, almost no one can tell me where they want to be in three years, five years or 10 years. On the other hand, those who strive for their impossible dreams and achieve them, know exactly where they want to go and how they want to get there. WhenI'veaskedbusinessmenorbusiness women what they value most, they nearly al ways say their family, their friends or their health. But there's a real disconnect between what they say and what they do. Most people's daytoday priorities, what they think about, how they act, and how they spend their time do not reflect their lives. Nordotheirprioritieshelpthemtoachieve what they've said they want most. Most people's daily and weekly routines reflect the demands and priorities of others or follow the path of least resistance and ''go

with the flow.'' When our daily activities do not reflect our values and efforts to achieve what we really want, we end our days and weeks and years frustrated and unfulfilled. To experience greater levels of achieve ment and more contentment and fulfillment, we need to find ways that will motivate and sustain our actions and work. We live in the most advanced, educated, civilised age in the history of mankind. We have more wealth, more health and material possessions than any other people in history. And yet we consume more antidepres sants and spend more time in hospitals and in the offices of therapists than ever before. By discovering and deepening our “whys”, I believe we have the opportunity to bring our lives and careers into line with our values. If we do this, we will be more successful in everything we do!

Every contribution was well received. Special thanks to all those who supported both the shows to allow the family to meet certain targets for Kashveer's continued rehabilitation. God bless you all for everything you have done and for your continued support

as we work to help Kashveer recover. Kashveer Singh Fund Raising Committee

While all this takes place at a higherlevel,theclassof2013arepre paring for the next step in their lives. PUPILSandparentswillneverforget the last year spent at school. It marks the endofanera and basical ly the beginning of a new chapter adulthood and the responsibilities that come with it. The countdown to the “most im portant examinations pupils will write” has begun as schools start to add the final touches ahead of the written exams. All eyes will once again focus on the Department of Education as president Jacob Zuma highlighted education in his State of the Nation address. The former premier of KwaZulu Natal did the same in his State of the Province address. At this stage the department is working extremely hard to prevent leaks. A department spokesperson

Horrendous roads I READ an article in one of our local tab loids regarding progress made in pro viding adequate street lighting in Stanger Manor a while ago. The picture showed the mayor, along with a few municipal officials smiling broadly during the "switch on". The article also mentioned that our municipality was starting to resurface roads in the area. Mymildexcitementhasnowturned into complete horror at the condition ofourroads!Themunicipalityhasgaily gone about stripping the tar complete

ly off a number of roads. Some sections of road have devel opedpotholesthataredeepenoughto completely engulf an average motor car tyre. The roads that enclose an ac tive business district (Daffodil Road, Geranium Street) have fallen prey to these enthusiastic earthmovers. Why was the resurfacing project not limited to one stretch of road at a time? Surely that would have limited the obvious damage and inconve nience that prevails presently? Nathanael van Wyk

Mandeni Municipality responds to allegations

NEWS

13

NOTHANDO NDLOVU RESPONDING to the article ‘Public Protector toprobe’publishedintheWeekly(11October), Mandeni mayor Sphesihle Zulu said the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) was looking for ‘cheap’ publicity and also intended to undermine the Mandeni community. Speaking to the Weekly, Zulu explained: “The municipality is outraged by the ludicrous claims made by the IFP national leadership to the media by an organisation that should understand better that Mandeni has efficient administration which includes a few councillors of the IFP.” According to Zulu, council regarded the allegations as being part of a broader ‘insult’ to the IFP councillors from Mandeni who make a ‘meaningful’ contribution in running the municipality. “The IFP must attend to its political activities and refrain from undermining the good progress of Mandeni community. These lame allegations are baseless and lack facts. The municipality that was previously led by the IFP had a lot of internal fights and was financially weak.” Zulu said the allegations were made to ‘harm the integrity’ of the municipality as the 2014 elections were drawing close. “It has now become clear that we are dealing with IFP power mongers who cannot recognise their local leadership who has been part of the three consecutive unqualified audit opinions by Auditor General in last financial years.” The article published in the Weekly stated that the Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela was asked to probe claims of mismanagement in someKwaZulu-Natalmunicipalitiesincluding Mandeni. It further stated that information was sent toMadonsela’sofficein2009thatMandenidid not renew the contract of Globe Tech Security Company and instead brought in Enforce Security Company. A reliable source said this was ‘suspicious’ because Globe Tech Security Company was paid R60 000 per month, Enforce Security Company’s payment was about four times more, approximately R260 000 per month. Responding to these allegations Zulu said Enforce Security was appointed by the previous administration in 2009. He said a forensic investigation was done. Zulu said the municipality should have been ‘engaged’ before the allegations were made. “The municipality will continue to work together to improve our service delivery in order achieve our vision ‘To be a reliable people centred sustainable economic hub by 2030’.”

Headaches in children >> Pay attention to your child’s symptoms HEADACHES in children are common and usually aren't serious. Like adults, children can develop different types of headaches, including migraine or stressrelated (ten sion) headaches. Children can also have chronic daily headaches. In some cases, headaches in children are caused by an infection, high levels of stressoranxiety, orminorheadtrauma. It's important to pay attention to your child's headache symptoms and consult a doctor if the headache worsens or occurs fre quently. Headaches in children usually can be treated with overthecounter pain medications and other lifestyle measures. SYMPTOMS Children get the same types of head aches adults do, but their symptoms may differ. For example, a migraine in an adult usually starts early in the morning, but a child's is more likely to develop in the late afternoon. Also, migraine pain in children may last less than four hours, whereas in adults, mi graines last at least four hours. Such differ ences may make it difficult to pinpoint headache type in a child, especially in a younger child who can't describe symp toms.

Establish the type of headache your child has first before treating. In general, though, certain symptoms tend to fall more frequently under certain categories. Migraine Migraines can cause: Pulsating, throbbing or pounding head pain

day to eight a day Involve sharp, stabbing pain on one side of the head that lasts from 15 minutes to three hours Are accompanied by teariness, congestion, runny nose, or restlessness or agitation Chronic daily headache Doctors use the phrase "chronic daily headache" (CDH) for migraine headaches and tensiontype headaches that occur more than 15 days a month for more than three months. CDH may be caused by an infection, minor head injury or taking pain medications — even nonprescription pain medications — too often. When to see a doctor Most headaches aren't serious, but seek prompt medical care if your child's head aches: Wake your child from sleep Worsen or become more frequent Change your child's personality Follow an injury, such as a blow to the head to Feature persistent vomiting or visual changes Are accompanied by fever and neck pain or stiffness CAUSES

Pain that worsens with exertion Nausea Vomiting Abdominal pain Extreme sensitivity to light and sound Even infants can have migraines. A child who's too young to tell you what's wrong may cry and hold his or her head to indicate severe pain. Tension-type headache Tension-type headaches can cause: A pressing tightness in the muscles of the head or neck Mild to moderate, nonpulsating pain on both sides of the head Painthat'snotworsenedbyphysicalactiv ity Headache that's not accompanied by nau sea or vomiting, as is often the case with migraine Youngerchildrenmaywithdrawfromregu lar play and want to sleep more. Tension type headaches can last from 30 minutes to several days. Cluster headache Cluster headaches are uncommon in chil dren under 12 years of age. They usually: Occur in groups of five or more episodes, ranging from one headache every other

Emotional factors Stress and anxiety — 032 55-22-911 perhaps triggered by Strictly by appointment only problems with peers, teachers or parents — can play a role in chil dren's headaches. Is your child being “bullied”? >> Help is at hand! budo martial art introduces “bully” classes

Most children experience bullying at some point in their academic careers. :

B

ULLYING is a common occurrence in most schools. Approximately 40% to 80% of schoolage children experience bullying at some point during their school careers. Regardless of the grade level, socioeco nomic environment, gender, religion, or sexual orientation, bullying can happen to anyone. However, various studies point out that studentsfromlowersocioeconomicback grounds are more bullied than students from higher socioeconomic backgrounds. The following is a list of statistics that illustrate the severity of bully-

ing within classrooms: >>2040% of bullying victims actually re port being bullied >>70% of primary school and high school students experience bullying in school >>712% of bullies are habitual and pose a serious threat >>23% of 9th graders have carried a weapon to school recently >>515% of students are constantly bul lied >>27% of students are bullied because of their refusal to engage in common sexual practices >>25% of students encourage bullying if

not given proper education and support in antibullying techniques Due to the low numbers of students who actually report incidents of bullying, teachers need to have a certain level of awareness that will hinder any potential problems. This awareness starts with under standing bullying. Thepsychologyofbothbullyandvictim are imperative to understand. Levels of confidence of both parties come into play. The student who bullies others, also, clearly, has challenges of selfworth, self love and selfunderstanding.

The victim, as well, requires to become bold, forthright, develop more selfrespect and become fearLESS. Bullying is NOT something that ANY child “deserves”. It is no child’s right to hurt or disrespect anoth er. Many children are embarrassed to get parents involved realising that they will be bullied further and be called names and hurt even more, because they are unable to “handle” the issue themselves. Sometimes parents are aware of some sort of foul play but even they are unaware of what the optimal solution could be. BUDO MARTIAL ART BULLY CLASS will

I am very proud of the fact that you have made it thus far, and have confidence in your ability to overcome this last hurdle. I want to urge parents to support the matriculants in preparing for their examinations and give them space and time to concentrate on their studies. Acquiring the Senior Certificate represents a very important qualification to a better world. With this certificate our learners will have the option of going to University or Further Education and Training (FET) College. Mandeni Municipality is working hard to attain its vision “To be reliable people centred economic hub by 2030”, and it can happen if we have young people who are equipped with relevant skills and knowledge, to help build the municipality. Therefore we need all of you to do well and achieve even better results than all of your previous examinations, and continue your studies at University or FET College. We encourage matriculants to apply for our Mandeni Bursary Scheme as to increase learners who access tertiary education. We wish to remind all that education is a societal issue. Let us work together to support the learners and the educators. Please remain focused in the remaining days; be confident in your ability, concentrate intensely on your books and make us proud at the end of the day. Parents and siblings also need to play their role by ensuring that the home environment is conducive to study. The success of your examinations is dependent on effective time management, smart studying techniques, a balanced diet and regular exercise. May your hard work, commitment and dedication to your school work pay off positively. Your must remember that the government, your parents, families and all our communities love you and support you. The entire education community is standing by you as you prepare for the examinations. PN/84/2013

ROVE End clinched the Power Sparessponsored Stanger and District Volleyball Corporate League Knockout Cup after beating Powertrans in straight sets (2-0) in the final played at the association courts on Wednesday night. Grove End booked their place in the final with an emphatic 2-0 win against Teachers Style. However Powertrans had to dig deep into their reserves to hold off a strong late challenge by Team Style before winning 25-22; 25-20 to advance to the final. Grove End, boasting a wealth of seasoned campaigners including Neil Perumal, Raj Naidoo, Preggie Pillay and Kamal Singh took a commanding 11-5 lead. Neeraj Bageloo and Ahmed Essack tried desperately to keep the scoreboard ticking for Powertrans, but Grove End’s defence marshalled superbly by Clive Kista and Bevlin Thaver thwarted the efforts of the Powetrans attackers. Grove End grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck after an emphatic 25-16 win in the opening set. Grove End were far superior in virtually every department and marched on relentlessly to add the Power Spares Knock Out Cup (winning 25-11) to their silverware cabinet after annexing the Sunil Pranpath Incorporated Corporate League trophy earlier in the year. President of SDVA, Isaac Abraham congratulated Grove End on their success and thanked Shokes Naidoo of Power Spares for his generous sponsorship.

KSST eyes Sanchez Spur KO Cup WEEKLY REPORTER

In the top half of the draws, Teachers Style who have been enjoying a rich vein of form are expected to face a severe litmus test when they do battle with competitive league rivals Warriors Sport tomorrow (Thursday) at 7pm. Style will be pinning their hopes on skipper Nazir Khan, Alvin Moonsamy and Nishen Govender to upset their more fancied rivals. Aslam Randeree’s Rands outfit are quietly confi dent of waltzing into the semi’s without hardly work ing up a sweat. In the opening round they do battle against an outofform Darnall Action Sporting out fit, who have been on the receiving end throughout the 2013 season before setting up a quarterfinal clash against Manor Old Boys. Volleyball pundits anticipate all four competitive teams to advance to the semi’s with KSST and Rand sonssettocontesttheSanchezSpurKOCup.Thefinal showdown will take place on Thursday, November 7.

KSST were grinning from ear to ear after the draws were done on Tuesday night at Sanchez Spur. They were drawn a bye in the opening round be fore locking horns with social league competitors (Ti tans or Sunbrook) in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, November 5. Titans/Sunbrook can expect a backlash from KKST who will be hoping to restore the faith of their legion of supporters. They boast a wealth of talented players including the likes of Damien “Shrek” Peters, Cameron Singh and Carnel Joseph and are strongly fancied to weave their magic into the semi’s. Big win for Morningside

>> Opener’s century puts team in the driving seat WEEKLY REPORTER

M

ORNINGSIDE humbled Flipside by 139-runs in an Ilembe and District Cricket Union Twenty-20Leaguegameplayedatthe Country Club Ground on Saturday. Morningside’s emphatic 139-runs victory must be attributed to a brilliant century notched up by man-ofthe-match, Levan Moodaly. The decision by Flipside to bat first after winning the toss backfired after Morningside openers, Moodaly and Harry Naidoo put on a splendid 102runs opening partnership in the first 9-overs of the match. They showed scant respect for the fragile Flipside attack, leaving their opponents chasing the red leather ball all over the park. Naidoo blasted a well-deserved half-century (56) which included ten 4s and two huge 6s before being caught behind by wicketkeeper Ishaant Bickram off the bowling of Asheel Jayramsingh in the penultimate delivery of the 10th over. Disappointed with the performance of his bowlers, Ishaant swopped his wicket-keeper gloves to take on the bowling duties from the CBDend at the start of the 11th over. Preshen Rampersad, making his debut for Morningside in the shorter version of the game (Twenty-20), joined Moodaly at the crease and this

formidable combination added to the woes of the Flipside outfit. Moodaly and Rampersad took the tally to 170/2 before Moodaly was caught at covers by Ishaant off the bowling of his brother, Adrian Bickram in the 18th delivery. Moodaly scored a note-worthy century (103) which included thirteen 4s and two massive 6s. The Bickram brothers struck yet again in similar fashion two deliveries later after Rampersad was dismissed for 14 runs. Gerhard Nagiah was brilliantly stumped for just one run by replacement wicket-keeper Zain Hoosen off the bowling of Nikhil Pancham at the startofthe20thoverbeforeSugenPillay (8) was run out in the last delivery of the match. Morningside posted a mammoth 188/4 in their allotted 20 overs. Adrian Bickram was the pick of the Flipside bowlers claiming 2/22 from 4 overs. Chasing a mountain-climbing target of 189 runs for victory (at a rate of 9,4 runs per over), Flipside, who looked more of a “flop-side”, were bundled out for a paltry 49 runs in the 16th over. R. Devkurran was the destroyer-in-chief for Morningside claiming 4/4 from 4 overs. He was well supported by Rampersad who grabbed 3/11 from 3-overs. Meanwhile, Oceanville ‘B’

After having my second child I never imagined that I could have my fig ure back, but thanks to the "LaserLipo" ma chine which is a miracle worker, I now have the confidence to strut my stuff just in time for summer. Vimla: "Slim World Saved My Life!!!" Two months ago I was di agonosed with ex tremely high cholester ol (270ldl) and the doc tors warned me that if I didn't do something about my situation I could have a heart at tack or stroke at any time. I have struggled with my weight for many years and have tried countless diet plans and none have given me the amazing results I have achieved afterfourshortsessions at Slimworld. My doctor is astonished by the im provements I've made and says he's going to try it out for himself as well. I feel like a million bucks. Thanks for my new lease on life

He went on to say that it is no secret to staying fit, it’s all about being positive. “I have been training hard and I am hoping to win a medal.” Motala is fortunate to have his son Yunus, a physiotherapist and his daughter Dr Farzana, a chiropractor who takes care of all his injuries.

Manor Primary clinch Shivendra Velan memorial Knock Out Cup WEEKLY REPORTER

M

ANOR Primary clinched the Shivendra Velan Memorial Six-a-Side Cricket Knockout Cup after trouncing Dawnview by five-wickets in the final played at Manor on Wednesday. The hosts were in for a rude awakening in their semi-final clash against Lee Primary of Darnall. Lee skipper, Phumlani Khuzwayo elected to bat first after winning the toss. Lee openers Khuzwayo and Lethu frustrated the Manor bowlers putting on 12 runs in the first four overs. In

the fifth and final over, Khuzwayo showed scant respect for Manor’s rising cricket star, Alex Pillay smashing the fast bowler for four boundaries to take their tally to 29/0. After being punished by the Lee opener, Pillay returned the favour, smashing the first five deliveries to the boundary to give the hosts a commanding 20/0 at the end of the first over. Manor needed just four balls to send Lee crashing out of the tournament thanks to Pillay who scored a “quickfire” 26 runs which included six fours.

In the second semi-final, KwaDukuza Primary lost the toss and were asked to bat first against arch-rivals Dawnview. KwaDukuza Primary were restricted to 25/2 in their allotted 5overs with Mayuren Logenathan scoring an unbeaten 21 runs which included two fours and a huge six. Nqubeko Luthuli bowled a maiden wicket over before receiving good support from Yusuf Khan who grabbed 1/0 from one over. KwaDukuza Primary were sent crashing out of the tournament thanks to some sloppy bowling and

fielding which comprised of more than 11 runs. Dawnview raced to an emphatic five-wickets victory with two overs to spare. In the final, Manor won the toss and asked Dawnview to bat first. The visitors posted 25/4 in their allotted 5-overs. Keanin Sattiah (10) top-scored for Dawnview. Jaden Pillay was the destroyer-in-chief for Manor claiming 2/4 from 2 overs. He received good support Nikhil Singh. Chasing 26 runs for victory, manof-the-match, Pillay smashed a brilliant undefeated 24 runs which in-
