he Under-18s progressed in the FA Youth Cup after a 4-0 win over Carlisle City. Sam Conway netted four times as the Anchors made short work of their opponents. His second goal proved to be the pick of the bunch as he robbed the full-back before bending an effort into the top corner. Coach Liam Cox said: “For most it was their first opportunity in the Youth Cup and there were a lot of nerves.” “It took a while for both teams to settle in but once we did it was comfortable.”

On Conway, Cox said: “He’s done well and deserved all four goals. His energy, work rate and movement and that second goal has done us for goal of the season.” Although Conway scored all four, it was a team effort: “It’s difficult to pick individuals out after a commanding win,” Cox said. “But Gary Mitchell up front on his own held the line well.” “Keelan Wright in midfield dominated the game from start to finish.” Next up in the FA Youth Cup, the Anchors host Gateshead.

involved with Wallsend Women. Critchlow said on his arrival: “I’m not going to say it’s been plain sailing,” “You have to do a little bit of firefighting and that’s still an enjoyable part of the job.” Sunday’s opponents, Synners, opened the season well with a 6-0 win over Newton Aycliffe. Critchlow said: “We’ve picked up a few injuries so the week break helped us. “I’m feeling confident. I think the shape of the team now from what I inherited is really good.” Sunday’s game is free entry and kicks-off at 2pm.
