WELCOME TO THE MAP GROUP UK STADIUM FOR TODAY’S NORTHERN LEAGUE DIVISION ONE MATCH AGAINST NORTHALLERTON TOWN
A
warm welcome back to the MAP Group UK Stadium for this afternoon’s Northern League Division One game against Northallerton Town. I’m probably a little bit frustrated to be honest, but I’m not disappointed because we’re playing well. We just haven’t got that cutting edge, at the moment, to finish our chances off at the minute, but it’s more frustrating than anything and the players are as well. I said this the other night that we just can’t be angry with the players because they’re putting everything in and so are we, but it’s just not going our way at the moment. We’re creating plenty of chances without really conceding many chances or many goals. It’s just a matter of time before that turns. You can easily say that you make your own luck, but you look at last week’s game against West Auckland and we’ve hit the bar three times, had chances cleared off the line and missed one-on-one’s. It’s not that we haven’t been here before, we had a little spell last year, around October time, where we went three or four games the same as now. With the amount of games that we have coming up, we are capable of going on a run and we are aiming to start that on Saturday. The West Auckland game last Saturday, we were left a bit speechless after the game, especially afterwards. It was silent after, we were just astonished how we hadn’t won the game, but that’s the beauty of football, it’s never over until the last kick of the game. That’s what it was, the last kick, so we’ve got to see games out and put teams to bed earlier in the game through putting our chances stockton_townfc

“YOU DON’T WIN GAMES IF YOU’RE NOT SCORING GOALS AND THAT’S WHAT WE NEED TO START DOING, STARTING TODAY.” away. Moving onto Tuesday, if we had won the game, I don’t think anyone would’ve have any complaints. If you look at reports on social media, in the final 20 minutes of the game, we were on top, a lot more pressure than they did and just couldn’t get that final touch and score. It’s been the story of the last few games, but we’ve got too much quality in the squad for that to continue. The time in between games is so close, so it gives us time to put things right straight away. When there’s a large gap between games, you can think about things too much. The game against Northallerton is a bit of a derby and it’ll give us a chance to put things right. They’ve had a decent start to the season, sitting currently in the top half, and with teams in and around us playing each other as well, it gives us a chance to, I wouldn’t say catch up, but get a good result and kick on from there. Due to our success in the league last year, it’s our downfall how teams are approaching us. As we’ve shown so far, we can break teams down, but its just about getting that final touch and putting that ball into the net and also putting teams away. That’s the only thing that we’re just not doing at the moment. The sooner we start scoring goals, the better, because we’re not giving much away.
