Adam Graham
Meet the gem of Brisbane’s diamond scene, founder and director of A.G Designer Jeweller.
Before Adam Graham became one of Brisbane’s most respected and influential jewellers, he was on track to become a national running champion.
Having grown up on the bayside during his schooling years, Adam became a competitive middle distance runner and by 15, was training with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS). By the time he turned 19, he was competing for Australia in the world championships.
But it was the delicate and refined work experience with Angelo Andronis of Andronis Jewellery he was doing in between school at Brisbane Boys College and training where he found his true calling.
“I started work experience with Angelo when I was 16 and I knew it was what I wanted to do,” Adam says.
“It had everything I could want from a job – creative components, technical skills, and an important people element. There are so many things to love about it.”
After completing an apprenticeship with Angelo, Adam went on to open his first A.G
Designer Jeweller store at just 22 years of age in Wilston Village.
Fast forward to today, and he’s getting set to expand his exquisite Tattersall’s Arcade store with co-owner, Paul Mellers.
“I just feel like the progression of the brand has been such a humbling experience for me,” Adam says.
“There’s the older, more traditional jewellery stores that have been around for so long, and then there was a huge gap in between. In those 30-odd years no one has really made a name for themselves in Brisbane. We’re the next gen, and that’s big to me.”
With so much success on his side, you’d be forgiven for thinking his days on the floor are over, but Adam is still very much at the forefront of the business, being the face of the brand and dealing directly with clients new and old.
“The most rewarding part of the job is and always will be the experiences you have with people,” Adam says.
“All these great friendships and relationships that I’ve made; it’s so rewarding to be part of something big in someone’s life.”
Good food mood
World-class dining, delicious local and international bites, plus a euro-style deli, The Wolf is Brisbane’s newest hotspot for foodies.
Jenna wears Bübish Luxe Manhattan Crop Jacket $310 David Jones Bec + Bridge Zoe Mini Dress $240. Exclusively Claude & Me JewelleryHave you ever eaten a dish so good you wanted to replicate the exact recipe at home? Maybe it was the creamy burrata you had on bruschetta, or smoked pancetta wrapped around seared scallops. Well, what if we said you could. Tucked away beside Post Office Square off Queen Street, you’ll find The Wolf, Brisbane’s first multi-layered gourmet food offering. Brought to you by hospitality guru Fabian Rebelo, who is behind Stanton Brasserie, Bar & Pizzeria, which turns four this year, The Wolf embodies the same old-world charm as its counterpart, but with a euro flair.
From the outside, The Wolf may look like your normal delicatessen with European gourmet and handmade delicious products filling the glass cabinets, but in reality, it’s so much more. The $2 million-plus fit-out is broken up into three food offerings: dining and bar, grocer and wine, and delicatessen.
Whether you first step through the restaurant or grocer entrance, be prepared to be instantly transported to an eatery somewhere in Europe or New York City. From the wine bottles lining the walls as you make your way into the dimly-lit dining setting which almost resembles a vintage 1960s Louis Vuitton store (and was designed by the ever-so talented and award-winning interior designer Melissa Collison), to the colourfullypainted bottles of olive oil and wheels of cheeses filling the shelves in the grocer, The Wolf truly is Brisbane’s newest foodie hotspot. Pick up a takeaway coffee and a freshly baked baguette sandwich, filled with stretchy, oozing mozzarella cheese and eggplant, to-go at the delicatessen (they have a selection of seasonal salads, classic sandwiches like pastrami Reuben, as well as buttery croissants and slices of Pizza Ataglio) or pop into the grocer and browse through their delicious deli and wine offerings (yes, they’re a fully licenced liquor store too!). Feel like treating yourself? Dine in at their restaurant and bar led by General Manager, Eric Dessilas, Head Chef, Wesley Marshall, and a one-to-three Michelin-star team, and tuck into menu items like steak au poivre and charcoalfired king prawns.
The Wolf prides itself on plating up the freshest local produce, as well as sourcing only the finest international foods – did someone say
lobster and caviar transmontanus?
Our favourite part? The convenience of being able to purchase the wine or antipasti you just had at lunch. They also sell ready-made meal options as well as champagne baskets (perfect for a picnic or last-minute present) and offer monthly subscriptionbased gourmet boxes made up of salumi, fromages, olives, and more. The restaurant will also be offering educational foodie experiences every two to three months, with the first one – a Champagne Master Class run by Moët & Chandon of 12 Champagnes paired with amuse-bouche – taking place in August (more details to come soon!).
So, the next time you’re in the CBD, pop in and be enticed by the delectable European goodies on offer or plan ahead and book in for a fine-dining experience like no other – The Wolf has really thought of everything. The Wolf opens 19 June.

By TEAGAN WITHEROWElevating Brisbane
From humble beginnings to their biggest venture yet, SARAH & SEBASTIAN is a constant reminder that design doesn’t have to come at a cost.
By ASTRID TAEMETSWhen did you start the brand?
Sarah Munro: After graduating with an honours degree in Design, I worked full-time before co-founding SARAH & SEBASTIAN with Robert in 2011. We were both passionate about creating something together, so we started designing jewellery in our spare time. In the early days, it was just the two of us designing and creating, and we worked long hours – often up to 80 hours a week. It took a couple of years before we felt confident enough to dedicate ourselves to the brand full-time. It was a leap of faith that we have never looked back on.
Robert Grynkofki: My background is industrial design. I studied jewellery design and goldsmithing in Germany before moving to Australia. When Sarah and I met, we realised we shared a passion for design and craftsmanship, and decided to start our own brand. With our combined experience, SARAH & SEBASTIAN has since become renowned for unique, handcrafted designs.
In your own words, how would you describe the brand?
SM: SARAH & SEBASTIAN is an influential jewellery studio that values concept-led design and quality craftsmanship. We’re committed to providing responsibly handcrafted pieces that embody a modern lifestyle and cultivate a deeper appreciation for the environment, especially our oceans.
What are your biggest inspirations?
Equipped with four hands and a drive to develop a new form of fine jewellery, Sarah Munro and Robert Sebastian Grynkofki launched their eponymous fine jewellery label, SARAH & SEBASTIAN in 2011.
Since then, the brand has grown and evolved, elevating their techniques and luxury offerings to new heights, increasing their unique services all while delving deep into their philanthropic passion for the ocean.
And, with the arrival of their biggest store opening yet on Edward Street in Brisbane City, we took five to chat all things jewellery, inspiration, and design with Sarah and Robert...
SM: As a recreational diver, the ocean is a constant source of inspiration. I go diving regularly in Australia, and whenever I get a chance to travel internationally, it’s almost always centred around diving. I often translate these experiences into a creative visual language, feeling inspired to create jewellery that celebrates organic shapes and textures, such as the delicate curves of seashells or intricate patterns of coral.
Ok, let’s talk about the Brisbane store. What was the deciding factor in choosing the Edward Street location?
RG: Alongside talented local artisans and renowned international retailers, the location was chosen because it aligned with our commitment to showcasing specialty pieces in a setting that exudes luxury and sophistication. It is our largest to date, with five times the footprint of our first store in Sydney’s Paddington, which opened in 2017, which allows us to fully showcase our entire suite of services: SOLDERED™, piercing, fine jewellery, and wedding and engagement consultations.

Savouring the good life
Not every restaurant is as cherished or has such an avid following as The Carriage House Brasserie, which is located within Aveo’s retirement community, The Clayfield. Set amongst some of Brisbane’s earliest residences, the retirement village blends modern amenities with heritage style.
The hub of the vibrant community is The Carriage House Brasserie, where fine food and wine is served seven days a week. The Carriage House’s Food and Beverage Manager Christina Schellander, who is supported by a team of 10, satisfies the palettes of the residents.
“Many of our residents are well travelled and appreciate the finer things in life and enjoy their dining experience surrounded by good friends from within and outside of the community at The Carriage House,” Christina says.
“Our diverse, seasonal menu includes at least three new items every day. We also have regular
theme nights such as oyster nights, Oktoberfest, Christmas in July, or a menu with foods from a particular country like Japanese sashimi. The favourites remain our premium steaks, laksas, or the classics – with homestyle, healthy cooking always popular.”
Christina said one item that always creates hype are the homemade sausage rolls. “They are sold out in 10 minutes,” she says. “The residents share an internal phone app and when the message goes out ‘fresh sausage rolls’, the residents start flooding into the restaurant. We have a lot of residents who come in to dine in the restaurant every day, and I understand – I think I’d be doing the same.”
The restaurant also caters for residents’ special events celebrated with family and friends, with the dining room in Highlands House a popular backdrop for private dining events.
One of The Clayfield’s newest residents, Lynda Larsen, moved into her stylish apartment a month
ago and says settling in has been easy.
“It’s just the loveliest place to live and everyone is so friendly,” Lynda says. “I am really enjoying the restaurant, it’s a lovely space. My favourite night is Wednesday, steak night, for the eye fillet. I join my neighbours from my floor, and we go down with a bottle of wine.”
Fellow residents Glen and Lindsay Williams are also loving the food and service at the restaurant. “The convenience of the restaurant is fantastic, but we probably use it too often as our favourite past time is eating,” Glen says. “The menu changes often and the staff are fabulous.’’
The Clayfield offers a mix of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments with prices ranging from $295,000 to $810,000. For information, or to arrange a tour of the village, phone 13 28 36.
The Carriage House Brasserie,located at
The Clayfield, is a hit with residents – and for good reason.
Sea Urchin Spaghetti
Take a sneak peek inside upcoming cookbook, Malta by Simon Bajada.
“When writing about this dish, in my mind I’m exploring craggy rocks beside the Mediterranean, dodging urchins under foot while Malta’s sun beams down on me. This dish takes you to the seaside. The flavour of the sea penetrates through the pasta – a dish so simple that for me it typifies Maltese food, especially when served with crusty bread and a green salad. Purists might leave the lemon and
mint out of the dish, but I love their freshness (if you prefer, you can substitute parsley for mint). The orange flesh inside sea urchins is actually a reproductive organ, sometimes deceivingly called roe. Its flavour is at its sweet and salty best before the urchins are preparing to spawn (different species do this at different times, but for many the best season to eat them is autumn). You can buy sea urchin removed from its spiny shells at good fishmongers.”
Serves 4-6
Preparation 40 minutes
Ingredients:
2 medium-sized ripe tomatoes
400g (14 oz) spaghetti
Salt and pepper
1 small onion, finely diced
1 garlic clove, finely chopped
How to:
3 tablespoons olive oil
Grated zest of ¼ lemon
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon chopped mint
150g (5 1/2 oz) sea urchin flesh
Score the tomatoes on their bases and grate with a box grater. Boil the spaghetti in well-salted water until al dente. Scoop out 200ml (7fl oz) of the cooking water before draining the pasta.
While the pasta is cooking, sauté the onion and garlic in 2 tablespoons of the oil in a frying pan over a low–medium heat.
When the onion is soft, add the tomato and some salt and pepper and cook for 2 minutes until the tomato breaks down.
Now add the pasta, its water, lemon zest and juice, mint, the remaining oil and the sea urchin. Toss together until the urchin breaks apart and distributes through the pasta. Taste for seasoning and serve.
DIAMONDS ARE this GIRL’S BEST FRIEND
Patrice Tipoki talks theatre, family, and her starring role as Satine (alt.) in Moulin Rouge! The Musical.
By PENELOPE PELECASShe’s performed all over the world in leading roles, such as Nala in Disney’s The Lion King, Elphaba in Wicked, and Fantine in Les Misérables on London’s West End. The New Zealand-born Sunny Coast singer and actress is now back on home soil for her next exciting role, Satine (alt.) in Moulin Rouge! The Musical. So, it was only fitting we sat down for a quick chat on all things performing, family life, and the allure and glamour of her new role.
Hi Patrice, thanks for chatting with us and congratulations on your role as Satine (alt.) in Moulin Rouge! The Musical. How has it been?
Hi, lovely to chat with you! It’s been wonderful being involved with Moulin Rouge! The Musical. Right from the beginning, there’s been an excitement around the show. Knowing it was already a successful production on Broadway and being able to bring it home to Australia where Baz Luhrmann’s film was originally created, which of course serves as our inspiration, has been EPIC!
What inspired you to audition for the show?
When Moulin Rouge! The Musical first opened on Broadway, I had some friends and family who saw the show and suggested that I would make a great Satine. I got my hands on the soundtrack and from then on hoped to be involved somehow!
What do you love about Satine’s character?
I love how multi-faceted she is. ‘The Sparkling Diamond’ of the Moulin Rouge nightclub, she really has her sparkly show persona and also her no-nonsense side.
How long does it take to prepare for a production like this?
Rehearsals normally start six weeks before we open a show. We’ll generally have four weeks rehearsal in a studio, and then two weeks of tech rehearsals, dress runs, and some preview performances.
You’ve performed in everything from The Lion King to Les Misérables on London’s West End, do you have a favourite?
I don’t really have a favourite show that I’ve been in, as I’ve been blessed to be in some wonderful productions. At each different moment in my life,
the show I’ve been in has been my favourite. What I love about all the characters that I’ve played is their strength and resilience in the face of adversity. Some of those roles are Nala, Elphaba, Fantine, and now Satine. All warrior women!
What was it like performing on the West End?
Performing on the West End in London was a dream come true for me. I took my family over with me and we had the best adventures each day before I performed each night. On our one day off each week, we tried to see as much of Europe as we could. It was fantastic! Plus, the people I got to meet and work with were beautiful.
How long have you been performing for?
I come from a musical family, so I’ve actually been singing and performing for more than 32 years! My parents and grandparents were all entertainers, and my siblings are in the music theatre industry as well. My sister, Laura, is currently the music director for the Australian and international production of Hamilton the Musical, and my brother, Kuki, is currently playing guitar in the band. My little brother, Tamatea, has just started studying Music Theatre at the Queensland Conservatorium in Brisbane. It runs in the family!
I read that you have four beautiful children, what do they say when they see you perform? My kids have been around the theatre a lot in their lives. Our youngest is still getting used to seeing me perform – she says, “mummy dings [sings]!” – but the others are pretty used to it. They enjoy watching shows and would love to be involved themselves.
How do you balance work and family life? If we can make it work, then we make it work. When I tour east coast cities (Melbourne and Sydney), my husband, Richard, who is a chiropractor, will work on the coast from Tuesday to Thursday, then he’ll be with us for the rest of the week. The kids are normally with me, and we home school the three eldest. Monday is our day off in theatre, so that’s our family day.

The Brow & Skin Studio
Your answer to firmer, smoother, and naturally healthier-looking skin.
What do you want or most importantly what do you expect when you have a skin treatment at The Brow & Skin Studio? Only the best results of course – and that’s exactly what I got. I was recently treated to a facial at the skin clinic in Ashgrove. If you live in or around the area, you’ve no doubt heard of the long-standing beauty salon, or been looked after by the ever-so graceful owner, Sherril Dalitz.
From the moment I stepped inside the studio, I knew I was in good hands. Sherril greeted me at the door, before leading me to a room where I changed into a luxurious bath robe. I felt instantly relaxed thanks to the dimly-lit space and relaxing music.
I was booked in for the OxyGeneo – the new super-facial treatment that promises firmer, fresher, and naturally healthier-looking skin.
For those who haven’t heard of OxyGeneo, as a quick recap, the facial treatment is made up of three technologies: Tripollar Radio Frequency – a completely safe skin tightening treatment that uses focussed radio frequency, OxyGeneo – a unique oxygenating process used during treatment that triggers a physiological response known as the Bohr Effect, and Ultrasound, which improves blood flow and absorption of the active ingredients by applying ultrasound waves to the skin.
After a gentle face cleanse, we launched into the treatment. Sherril first started with some radio frequency to stimulate collagen and elastin in my skin. I found this step incredibly relaxing as it works by heating the skin.
Next, Sherril used an Oxypod capsule to gently exfoliate my skin and remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. Sherril used a detoxifying pod on me made up of green tea extract (it smelt divine!), but there are multiple pods to choose from based on your skin needs and concerns.
Sherril then placed me under Healite LED Light Therapy, which takes the treatment to the
next level, before moving into the final step, which involved applying a Geneo serum onto my skin and using ultrasound technology to help the serum fully absorb into the skin’s deep layers. All up, the treatment only took an hour, with no downtime involved – now that’s a win!
While a treatment like this works wonders, Sherril said the key to fabulous skin also comes down to choosing great quality skin products and keeping your daily routine as simple as possible!
Cosmetic Injectables Australia
The Cosmetic team excel at making you look and feel your best authentic self .
Molly Brown is a big believer in enhancing your natural beauty to make you look and feel your best. She’s been working in the cosmetic injector game for 13 years, and now co-owns Cosmetic Injectables Australia in Brisbane and Melbourne alongside twin sisters Jessica Whalley and Samantha Hair, who founded the brand in Darwin seven years ago.
Since opening the Brisbane branch in 2020, the clinic has only gone from strength to strength.
“Opening a clinic during a pandemic was certainly a gamble, however my experience and reputation in Brisbane –as I had worked in injectables for 10 years prior – definitely helped,” Molly, who is trained as a cosmetic nurse injector both internationally and nationally, says.
Offering all the latest in cosmetic medicine treatments and services, from collagen-stimulating PDO threads to anti-wrinkle injections, dermal fillers, fat dissolving, and dermal needling, the Cosmetic team can achieve optimal outcomes with only the safest of techniques, whether you’re wanting to treat tired eyes, slim your jawline, smooth fine lines, perk up those lips, or enhance your cheeks.
Cosmetic Injectables Australia have also introduced their own scientifically-backed skincare line, Skin Health Science, which they sell onsite as well as online. Their range features four high performance products designed to solve any skin concern and slow the signs of ageing in all skin types. You can pick up products like a cleanser, serum, and moisturiser.
Preferring a ‘less-is-more’ approach, with Cosmetic Injectables Australia you can trust that you’ll look refreshed and revitalised, and no one will be any the wiser!
“I believe a relationship between a nurse injector and their patient is just like any other relationship, it’s built upon trust,” Molly explains. “My passion for cosmetic injectables and skin treatments is because I love to enhance patients’ natural beauty and believe prevention is the key to ageing gracefully.”

Hyperbaric O2 Health
Yes, you can actually slow down the ageing process.
Feeling stressed? Keep waking up tired? It may be time to try something new. Say hello to hyperbaric chamber therapy. While hyperbaric chamber therapy certainly can’t ‘rewind the clock’, it has been shown to have anti-ageing benefits, Matthew Baker, founder of Hyperbaric O2 Health, says.
For those of you who don’t know, hyperbaric hydroxy therapy is where you breathe in a combination of oxygen and hydrogen in a pressurised environment, like a chamber. Hydrogen targets the toxins in your body, while oxygen speeds up the healing process – it’s this unique combination that reduces the onset of ageing by rejuvenating your skin and muscle tissue. Other impressive benefits include boosting your immune system and improving focus and memory.
So, how long before you start to see results? Like most treatments, it won’t happen overnight. Matt, who is a highly trained and experienced musculoskeletal therapist, remedial therapist, and body psychotherapist, recommends starting off with two sessions a week, before transitioning into weekly sessions for a period. To maximise results, add a remedial massage or musculoskeletal therapy (type of therapy designed to prevent, treat, manage, and rehabilitate musculoskeletal pain). Trust us when we say you’ll be feeling brand new in no time!

Bonsai Aesthetics
A leading skincare clinic with a focus on results-driven treatments, and most importantly, fabulous, healthy skin.
The Bonsai Aesthetics team live and breathe skincare. The skincare clinic, led by Micheal Cordwell, was born out of a desire to celebrate fabulous, healthy skin, and it’s evident in the beauty services they provide. While they offer a number of injectable treatments, such as dermal filler, bio-filler, antiwrinkle, and bio-remodelling, good skin health and knowledge is at the forefront of everything they do. For example, while bio-filler is used to plump or add volume to the skin, the treatment has also been clinically shown to improve skin texture, hydration, and elasticity.
Bonsai Aesthetics, which now has two Brisbane locations (Teneriffe and Chermside), also offers a number of dermal treatments, such as skin needling, body contouring, LED light therapy, and microdermabrasion, which, in most cases, work hand-in-hand with the above injectable treatments. They also offer cosmetic tattooing such as brows, lips, and eye liner, as well as fullbody waxing and brows.
Quality customer service is also an integral part of the business, and the close-knit team, which is made up of dermal therapists, cosmetic tattooist, registered nurses, and receptionists, will go above
and beyond to ensure you’re comfortable and are receiving only the best results every time. They also take pride in offering a personalised approach and will tailor services depending on what you need. Micheal and his team are not interested in quick, budget, or fad treatments, so you can rest assured the services they offer have been thoroughly researched and are effective.
So, if you’re on the path to happier and healthier skin, look no further than Bonsai Aesthetics.

The miracle recipe your skin needs!
Deemed one of Brisbane’s premier cosmetic clinics, and rightfully so, we uncover Inigo Cosmetic’s recommendations for achieving a glowing, healthy, and youthful complexion.
Think of it like a recipe, you need all the correct ingredients for the final dish, right? Likewise with skincare – you need all the correct treatments to achieve your dream skin! That’s exactly why the team at Inigo Cosmetic recommend combining treatments for a more holistic and effective result.
Even though we all love that one-off, relaxing facial, if you’re wanting to achieve real results, the first step in the method is to develop a trusted relationship with a therapist. Bonus points for one who has access to state-of-the-art cosmetic technologies, products, techniques, and most importantly background knowledge of your skin (Inigo Cosmetic therapists are pros at all of that, by the way).
One of their most effective and recommended treatment combinations is Emface, Morpheus8 RF micro-needling, and bio-remodelling treatments for full-face rejuvenation.
Let’s break that down; Emface contracts and shortens the muscles in the face (effectively treating the structural foundation on which your skin sits), aiming to give a more lifted and youthful appearance. Morpheus8 tightens the skin, boosts collagen production, and refines the skin’s surface to address laxity, scarring, and fine lines. Bio-remodelling treatments transform the health of your skin from the inside out, by boosting hydration and also promoting collagen and elastin. Then depending on your needs, pigmentations and red spots can be addressed with Lumecca IPL. You can see how when combined, these treatments are like a miracle recipe, addressing multiple factors which contribute to ageing, dull or tired skin.
The best part? The therapists at Inigo Cosmetic combine these advanced skin technologies with luxurious, cosmeceutical-grade facials, and a prescribed at-home skincare routine to support a healthy, functional skin barrier outside of the clinic.
Keen to start your skincare journey? You’ll be pleased to know that Inigo Cosmetic offers thorough consultations to develop a curated treatment plan involving multiple modalities to achieve your ultimate skin health and beauty goals. Head to their James Street salon today or enquire online.

What does your beauty diary look like?
By TEAGAN WITHEROWTell us, what does beauty mean to you?
In my eyes, beauty represents a feeling more than it does an appearance. True beauty lies within and is underpinned by feeling good in your own skin and honouring your body well by taking good care of it. I love seeing women embrace growing older and taking the time to appreciate themselves in all stages of life. Ultimately, I feel beauty radiates from a kind heart and an open soul.
Do you follow a strict beauty routine?
Good genes have blessed me (thanks to my mama), and my beauty routine is fairly straightforward –healthy, organic, and natural choices, good sleep, keeping hydrated, daily movement, and never a day without lots of laughter. I don’t believe in being too strict, because where’s the fun in that?
Beauty products you can’t live without: I love sampling new ranges and have quite a collection of beauty products I’ve discovered and loved. But of course, there are some firm favourites I return to time and time again. I adore: It’s All Fluff Face Oil #2, Mecca Cosmetica Restoring Retinol Serum, Dr Barbara Sturm Face Cream & Night Cream, iS Clinical Eye Complex, and Biologi Hydra Calm Bio-Cellulose Mask.
My beauty diary is actually quite uncomplicated and holistic and begins on the inside with a nutritious breakfast and some morning exercise. Otherwise, a great cleanser and day cream is enough to set me up on most days, and I generally wear very minimal makeup unless doing a photoshoot. I love a good exfoliation and hydrating mask too and always remember to hydrate my skin with a night cream and eye treatment before hopping into bed for beauty sleep.
Your proudest beauty feature?
While many women spend years and a fortune denying grey hair, I’m proud of my naturally silver hair and often get asked if it’s coloured this way. The day I chose to stop dying my hair and fully embrace silver in my early 40s was a liberating moment, and I’ve never looked back. My silver hair is a reminder of my strength and wisdom, and I love the way it looks.
Best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
Growing up, my mother always told me beauty began with a smile, and I still practice that today. No matter what brand of creams you put on your face or what shade of blush you highlight your cheekbones with, when you smile broadly enough that your eyes join in the party, then that’s beautiful.
Positive lifestyle coach, mama of four, model, and overall radiant soul, Dani Stevens filled us in on all her beauty do’s and don’ts.
Coquette beauty
Coquette beauty focuses on the hyper-feminine aesthetic with pink cheeks, glossed lips, and winged eyeliner taking the lead. Initially coming to light during the Bridgerton craze, coquette beauty has only grown in popularity as it also gains inspiration from other adored aesthetics, such as Barbiecore, balletcore, and even clean-girl-inspired styles.

PRE-WEDDING GLOW
We spoke to two local brides on how they nailed their wedding day looks.
By ERIN SIMPSONPlanning a wedding is no small feat. There’s finding vendors, picking the perfect dress, deciding on a venue, sending out the invites, and the list goes on. When it comes to nailing that wedding glow, there’s a lot more beauty prep that goes on behind the scenes than one might expect. Curious to find out more, we chatted to local brides, Karen and Margo.
Karen Truong
Tell us a little bit about your wedding day… Our wedding was more of an intimate affair, the day went perfectly with some of our many highlights being the ceremony and speeches. As cliché as it sounds, the day went by incredibly quickly, so make sure to find moments to take it all in!
How long did your wedding beauty prep take in total?
My pre-wedding skincare timeline really amped up a year prior to the wedding.
What beauty treatments did you invest in during the lead up to the big day?
I invested in Fractional RF Needling sessions to improve skin texture concerns at the 12-month mark. The last three months prior to the wedding was really all about exfoliation, hydration, and maintaining a healthy glow. To achieve this, I did a combination of gentle peels, LED, and hydrating facials at Glo Haus and Glow Skincare Annerley.
Do you have any favourite makeup/ beauty products that helped you master your glow?
My MUA Janise Chan introduced me to the most amazing body lotion with a luminous glow that lasted all night. It’s called RCK Body Glow by OFRA Cosmetics. In terms of skincare, my holy grails are the SK II Stempower Rich Cream and Tatcha Face Masks.
Margo Smyth
Tell us a little bit about your wedding day… Our wedding day was stressfully planned but turned out to be such a relaxed day! Once we got there, nothing else really mattered other than marrying the love of my life.
BRIDE-TO-BE BEAUTY CHECKLIST
• Book in your makeup, hair, and tan trials
• Cut down on your alcohol consumption and increase water intake
• Use sunscreen daily in the lead up
• Be diligent with your skincare routine
• Choose a makeup look that’s true to your personal style
• Use an intensive moisturising mask the night before
What was your wedding day makeup look and the inspiration behind it?
My wedding makeup was just an elevated version of my everyday makeup. When I went for my makeup trial, I asked for the typical ‘Glowy Bridal’ look but I realised it just wasn’t very me! As I usually wear a black wing, my overall look on the day was inspired by vintage Hollywood glam.
What is the best beauty advice you have for future brides-to-be?
My top tip is cut down on your alcohol consumption! I cut out drinking completely two months before and never looked healthier! My skin was so glowy and clear.

Where beauty meets fashion
In the realm where beauty interlaces with fashion, an intricate dance unfolds, weaving together elements to render one’s distinctiveness as the ultimate aesthetic. Bespoke suits serve as an embodiment of this delicate balance. These sartorial masterpieces, both eternal and malleable, emerge from the tailor’s hands to accentuate the human form, complementing the face, hair, and physique while instilling a sense of confidence and developed grace.
The charismatic charm of a bespoke suit lies not in brazen displays but in its hushed whispers of elegance, illuminating the wearer whilst never eclipsing their inherent beauty. Carefully crafted by artisans of the highest order, these garments exemplify the peak of skill and delicateness.
Bespoke suits serve as the nexus where the realms of fashion and beauty combine. They facilitate the realisation of an elegance that seems paradoxically both effortless and deliberate, by creating the perfect balance between style and the allure of the aesthetic. Be it for momentous occasions, or everyday elegance, the custom suit emerges as the excellent emblem of one’s singular flair. These suits stand as testimony to the virtues of impeccable craftsmanship, careful attention, and the seamless union of fashion and beauty, empowering our most genuine selves to command the spotlight.

FINE
Feminine, romantic, and dreamy, pearls have been a classic in women’s jewellery collections across the globe for hundreds of years. A string of pearls can elevate just about any outfit – from dainty pearl earrings to classic pearl necklaces, pearls of any sort are always appropriate. Not to mention, they’re the universal symbol of refined elegance.
As pearls are one of the official birthstones of June, we thought it would only be fitting to list some of the fun facts about this luxurious gem. Here’s what we found:
• Pearls range in colour from white to black
• They are the symbol of fertility, purity, determination, perfection, and, of course, romance
• They come from a living creature, rather than being mined from the ground
• There are four types of pearls, and they all have different characteristics (freshwater pearl, Japanese Akoya pearl, Tahitian pearl, and South Sea pearl)
• During Julius Caesar’s reign, only aristocrats were permitted to wear pearls
As Grace Kelly once said pearls are “the queen of gems and the gem of queens.”
Pearls are always appropriate

The beauty of travel
I find we only truly appreciate the beauty of something or someone when we pause, contemplate, and take it all in. When it comes to travel, if you pause and observe, beauty is truly all around you.
It’s in the places you visit, it’s in the paintings and sculptures, it’s in the architecture, it’s in the style and fashion passers-by wear, it can even be in a piece of treasured handmade jewellery bought somewhere on your travels.
From the magnificence of an antique room with a view of Lake Maggiore in Italy to a glass of fine Brunello di Montalcino accompanied by a plate of handmade pesto pasta, there truly is so much to take in.
News to know, for those heading to southern Italy this summer, the new hot spot is Taormina, the pearl of the Mediterranean. Irresistiblyscented flowers and citrus fruit, turquoise waters, and uncountable Instagramfriendly corners make it the perfect place to kick back and relax.
If Italy’s calling, there are still a few spots left on my 2024 Indulgent Italy tour. You’ll enjoy special invitations and tours focused on history, style, and heritage. Get in touch with me today to book.

EVENT STYLING
with Jano KotzasMore than a display
Visual merchandising is the ability to tell a story through product presentation. Through signage, colour, and the elements of design, products have a better visual appeal, and therefore, improved ability to sell.
The beauty of visual merchandising comes from the artistic accents. Adding styling elements, or props, into a display enhances a product’s appeal and creates a cohesive, thematic story.
Also, don’t forget to engage all the senses! Visual merchandising is more than just a shelving display. Think of how calming music, or a delicious scent can make your client’s experience even better. Ease harsh lines with luxe signage to support your product choice and use clever pricing techniques to catch your client’s eye – blackboards and oversized swing tags can be very effective.
Next time you’re merchandising, try the Pyramid Principle. Placing items in a triangular fashion ensures there’s a variety in height so the display doesn’t appear flat, and it allows the customer’s eye to travel throughout the design. When in doubt, use the rule of odd numbers; three is the magic number when it comes to visual merchandising!
Not yet confident? Our team at VM+ are skilled stylists with the experience to make your windows and displays beautiful!
Brisbane’s market in focus
The real estate market in Brisbane has been experiencing some significant shifts in recent years, and 2023 has been no exception. As we move through the year, it’s important to understand where the market stands and where we expect it to move forward.
One of the most notable trends in the Brisbane property market is the rise in demand for affordable housing. This has led to an increase in the number of apartments and townhouses being sold within a short timeframe around the city, as well as a demand for older, more affordable homes in established suburbs.
Another trend that has been observed is the growing interest in properties outside of the city. As more people move away from the hustle and bustle of the city, there’s been a surge in demand for properties in the outer suburbs and surrounding areas, such as Ipswich and Logan. These areas offer a more relaxed lifestyle, as well as more affordable housing options.
Looking ahead, it’s likely that the property market will continue to shift and evolve. With the economy slowly recovering, we may see a continued increase in demand for affordable housing options. Additionally, we may see a rise in the number of properties being built in the outer suburbs.
Overall, the Brisbane property market remains a stable option for investors and homebuyers alike. Touch base with our dynamic team to discuss your next purchase or sale.
VARICOSE VEINS with Dr Nicholas Kemp
Say goodbye to varicose veins!
Many women seek treatment for their varicose veins during pregnancy and menopause. During these periods, hormone levels of estrogen and progesterone can change dramatically. For example, progesterone dilates, which in turn effects the vein walls and valves elasticity, reducing the ability to function competently.
When pregnant, the increased blood needed to support a baby puts pressure on the venous system. Fortunately, some mums find post-partum that their varicose veins do resolve. Others may need treatment before becoming pregnant again.
The reduction of hormones produced through menopause can again lead to weakening and with skin becoming thinner, veins once hidden can become more noticeable. The good news is, cosmetic treatment of women in this life stage often yields much cleaner and longer-lasting results.
So, what can be done to help? Keeping your circulation moving with exercise is very important, particularly in a low-impact way such as walking, swimming, and yoga. A healthy diet and supplements may also play a role – vitamin C can be beneficial for blood vessels (citrus fruits have also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties!). And some even find massages provide temporary relief of symptoms.
CORPORATE
PSYCHOLOGY with Dr John Barletta
Breathing meditation
Begin with a nice slow, deep breath into the body. As you exhale, let go of any tension. Without changing the natural rhythm of your breath, bring your attention to the area just below your navel. Notice the different sensations that are stimulated each time you breathe in and out and keep your attention on the rising and falling of your abdomen. The body only dwells in the present, and the moment you are aware of the sensations in your body, you are in the present.
If your mind wanders away into thoughts, bring your awareness back to the present – without any judgement, simply return to the rising and falling of your abdomen. With your mind focused on the present, rambling thoughts calm down for you to experience stillness and peace. SUNSHINE PLAZA
Calling all skin, hair, and makeup lovers! Head to Sunshine
Sunshine Plaza may be a leading destination for shopping and dining, but it’s also a one-stop shop for all things beauty.
In need of some new makeup or skincare products? Shop all the latest in beauty at Mecca (we’re currently crushing on The Brightening Edit by Mecca Cosmetica), Sephora, David Jones, or Myer. As for luxury skincare and body products, L’Occitane and The Body Shop are your first port of call. L’Occitane has everything from cleansers and moisturisers to body scrubs and hand lotions (their shea butter and honey range smells divine!), while The Body Shop is leading the way when it comes to ethical, high-quality products. Did you know around half of their products are vegan?
Our favourite part is the majority of these brands follow a sustainable approach. For example, Mecca offer a refill and recycle service, Sephora offer a recycling program, as do L’Occitane and The Body Shop. Sunshine Plaza recently launched The Good Day Collective, which highlights all the good things brands are doing in the centre.
And if you’re heading out to an event
anytime soon, or just in need of a skin refresh, Sunshine Plaza also has a variety of places where you can go and get beauty treatments done. If you’re after a relaxing yet still results-drive treatment, we’d recommend heading to Endota Spa or Pure Indulgence. Both beauty spas offer a number of luxurious facial and massage packages that will leave your skin looking and feeling radiant.
As for all your laser, injectable, and skincare needs, a visit to Clear Skincare Clinics or Silk Laser Clinics will not disappoint. Both clinics offer everything from bio-remodelling and dermal fillers to micro needling and LED light therapy. And if you’re on the hunt for the best eyebrow specialists on the Sunny Coast, look no further than Shine Beauty.
With easy, breezy shopping, familyfriendly entertainment, places to unwind and beautify, or dining experiences that you’ll be talking about for weeks, Sunshine Plaza has everything you’re looking for, and more.

A day in the life of Adam Sachs
From barbecuing in a South African township with Ryan Reynolds to making waves with Silversea Cruises CEO, Barbara Muckermann, we chat with three-times James Beard Journalism award-winning food, lifestyle, and travel writer, Adam Sachs.
By TEAGAN WITHEROWYou’re an acclaimed food, lifestyle, and travel writer, how does it feel to have such an iconic reputation?
It’s a real privilege to get to do something you honestly love for a living. Making connections is what really interests me, whether it’s writing about food or creating experiences for others.
What have been some of your career highlights?
I really love that the days tend to be quite distinct. And I’ve always appreciated the strange variety that comes with being a magazine writer. One day you’re in the press room of a grand slam tennis tournament, another day you’re backstage at a fashion show in Milan. It’s a weird mix, but I wouldn’t have traded it.
You’re the director of Silversea Cruises’ tasty new culinary program, S.A.L.T., how did it all come about?
S.A.L.T. [Sea And Land Taste] grew out of conversations around the questions of what a program might look like that really connects travellers to the world through the lens of food, drink, and culinary culture. One lovely thing about S.A.L.T. is it’s really engineered to offer something to all of our guests. Even if you don’t see yourself as someone who’d be interested in taking a cooking class, there’s definitely still something for you.
If you’re not working on the new program, what are you doing?
I live in a not-too-hip neighbourhood of Brooklyn with my wife, our two kids, and one very sweet, very hyper dog. Other than work and juggling domestic duties, I spend a lot of time on highly-caffeinated walks around the city with my dog, meandering from dog park to farmer’s market, usually thinking about whatever I’m cooking next.
Are you quite the cook yourself?
I am not trained in any way (and would be fired immediately from any professional kitchen), but I do absolutely love to cook. We have a woodburning grill in the hearth of our kitchen, so I’m particularly fascinated with all the things people do with fire around the world.
Having probably sampled a variety of different dishes on your travels, do you have a favourite?
Impossible to narrow down! I get really excited for things that are a little more down to earth and made with real feelings. Some recent food travel highs include driving around the coast of Basque country with my family, learning to make blue corn gorditas in the countryside outside Mexico City, and going deep on pastry with [Sicilian chef] Corrado Assenza in Noto.
Escape to the hinterland
By CHARLOTTE GARDNERThere’s nothing quite like packing up the car and heading down the highway after a busy week. For two nights, I stayed tucked away in a beautiful part of Northern New South Wales at the stunning La Rocher Eco Retreat, a true hidden gem and the perfect place to escape to in the cooler months – or anytime, really. By the time my friend and I reached our room, we immediately felt relaxed, and it took all of two seconds to pop on the fire and a fluffy bathrobe and pour a glass (or two!) of red – how’s the serenity?
La Rocher has uninterrupted views of the surrounding forest, rolling hills, and the iconic Mount Warning. The spacious and cosy villas nestled into the foothills of the mountain really ensure that wherever you are on the property, you are fully immersed in nature. We arrived just before sunset and as you can imagine the views were just mesmerising.
The Rocher family, that own and operate the eco retreat, are extremely welcoming and hospitable and have equipped the rooms with all the amenities you may need for a
comfortable stay. We were equally impressed with their efforts around sustainability.
We spent the two days unwinding and resetting, driving through the lush surrounds, wildlife watching, sunbaking, reading, and tucking into delicious eats. We were also keen to explore the neighbouring towns and hit the pavements for the best wine, cheese, and local produce. All in all, it was a relaxing getaway like none other and exactly what this city girl needed!

Brisbane hospo gurus chat all things business, passion, and their newest venture, Ruby, My Dear.
By ERIN SIMPSONMusic has always been an integral part of Brisbane hospitality duo Bonnie Shearston and Tom Sanceau’s lives. In fact, their love for music and appreciation for Japanese culture formed the inspiration behind their newest venture, Ruby, My Dear.
As the pair behind Happy Fat Group, they’ve been restaurateurs for over a decade and are the brains behind the likes of many iconic restaurants and bars like Red Hook and COPPA, which is temporaily closed. You could say they’re no strangers to making a mark on the Brisbane foodie scene.
Paying homage to Tokyo jazz cafes that served as illegal listening bars after the war, Ruby, My Dear is Brisbane’s first vinyl bar, adding to the growing list of slick new bars decorating our city.
Inside, you’ll find DJs spinning jazz records on the decks every night, along with an extensive menu of casual-style Izakaya food. “Ruby, My Dear is a culmination of travels, love of music, and appreciation of Japanese culture, design, and food,” Tom says.
When asked about the homage to vinyl records, Tom remarks, “Vinyl demands respect and although it isn’t a perfect format, it does offer a certain romance that’s difficult to beat.”
After an eight-year long relationship, the pair now work together as business partners and
friends. “We know how to work extremely well together, and it’s hard to find someone you click with so well,” Bonnie says. “But don’t get me wrong, we know how to push each other’s buttons.”
They both fell into the hospitality industry by chance and have since found themselves loving being able to see their ideas come to life for others to enjoy.
So, what’s the best advice the pair have for budding entrepreneurs? According to Tom, it’s “always read the fine print”, while Bonnie reckons you’ve got to be very malleable, open, and willing to give anything a shot. “F**k it! Give the people what they want,” she says.
And when it comes to enjoying Brisbane’s other incredible venues, you’ll find Tom at Ecco Bistro, whilst Bonnie will be hanging around at Essa for a fancy dinner, or Before and After for “delicious, simple, and beautifully done” food and drinks.
WHAT’S YOUR DRINK OF CHOICE AT RUBY, MY DEAR?
Bonnie: The Hard Boiled Wonderland – named after a Murakami book, it’s a whiskey, plum, cherry, and coconut drink.
Tom: Sometime Lovin’ – a delicious blend of chamomile and strawberry, mint, and soda. A perfect alcohol-free concoction referencing a song written by Bonnie’s Dad, Gary Shearston.
