(DE) • Wir sind nach San Francisco gereist – und wären am liebsten dortgeblieben. Damit sind wir nicht allein. Schon Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts zog es die Menschen an die Westküste, um Gold und Glück zu finden. Reich wurden wenige. Geblieben sind viele. Denn bis heute verströmen das Meer, das milde Klima und die ikonischen Hügel einen Zauber, dem man augenblicklich erliegt. •
(EN) • We went to San Francisco. And we’d have been happy to stay! We weren’t the first to feel that way, of course. Back in the mid-19th century it was the prospect of finding gold that brought masses of hopefuls to the US West Coast. Few of them got rich. But many of them stayed. And the combination of the Pacific Ocean, the mild climate and the iconic city hills still wields a magic that is instantly felt today. •

The American Way of Life – trotz E-Bikes und Strassenbahn: Auf das Auto wollen die meisten Einheimischen nicht verzichten.

(DE) • An der Macht ihrer Träume ändert dies aber nichts. Vom Taxifahrer bis zum Start-up-Gründer glaubt hier jeder an ein besseres Leben. Wir verstehen, warum. Gold kann man hier zwar keines mehr finden. Das Glück aber ganz bestimmt. •
(EN) • That doesn’t diminish the power of their dreams, though. From the taxi driver to the start-up founder, everyone here believes in a better life. We can see why. There may no longer be any gold in San Francisco. But good fortune and feelings abound. •
