A historical district of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, El Toscal was built to house port workers at the end of the 19th century. Its boundaries are set by Calle Méndez Núñez, Calle La Marina and the Almeida Barracks, with Calle La Rosa, Calle Santiago and Calle San Miguel as its main thoroughfares. It is a district with single storey homes and plain façades, in which the Pisaca and Ravina alleys still feature cohousing where the working class families once lived. El Toscal is a residential district with examples of singular architecture (Onésimo Redondo School, Casa Pisaca, María Auxiliadora Convent School and La Rosa) and provides an itinerary along the seafaring footprints of Santa Cruz amidst art galleries, vintage shops and small restaurants serving traditional food.

Das historische Viertel El Toscal von Santa Cruz de Tenerife wurde Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts für die Hafenarbeiter angelegt. Es wird von den Straßen Méndez Nuñez und La Marina und der Kaserne Cuartel de Almeida begrenzt, seine Hauptachsen sind die Straßen La Rosa, Santiago und San Miguel. Typisch sind die einstöckigen Häuser mit ihren nüchternen Fassaden. An den Wegen Pisaca und Ravina sind bis heute noch die charakteristischen verschachtelte Gebäude der Ciudadelas erhalten, in denen die Arbeiterfamilien lebten.

El Toscal ist ein Wohnviertel mit Beispielen einzigartiger Architektur (Schule Onésimo Redondo, das Haus Pisaca, das Schulheim Maria Auxiliadora und La Rosa). Es bietet Gelegenheit, zu einem gemütlichen Spaziergang entlang der maritimen Spuren von Santa Cruz, vorbei an Kunstgalerien, Vintage-Läden und kleinen Restaurants mit traditionellen Gerichten.

SYLVIA MADERO Santa Cruz certainly has it; just take a walk along the Ramblas to admire the many sculptures that between 1973 and 1974 were part of the 1st International Exhibition of Sculpture in the Street, with the participation of 43 top artists such as Martín Chirino, Henry Moore or Óscar Domínguez. Right now, 27 still remain, dotted around the city but mostly concentrated in Las Ramblas and in the García Sanabria Park. While you enjoy your walk, you should not miss a visit to the Leyendecker Gallery, one of the most prestigious of the capital. Also get to know the Toscal district, which has always been considered the bohemian quarter and the cradle of artists in the capital. An Iberian ham sandwich in Tasca El Horreo is always a good idea if you want a rest before walking the streets of El Toscal to see its many art galleries, such as Echevarría, Mácula or Vesán. If you continue your walk around the centre of Santa Cruz, you will come across the Círculo de Bellas Artes in Calle del Castillo, a cultural emblem in Santa Cruz. Nearby, after crossing the Serrador Bridge, we arrive in Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA), a singular building designed by reputed Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron with exhibition halls and a large library. In Plaza de la Madera, beside the Guimerá Theatre, stop to visit La Recova Art Centre, and if the time has come for dinner, Bodeguita Canaria is right nearby: you really have to try their omelette with gofio!

Lernen Sie auch den Stadtteil El Toscal kennen, der schon immer als Wiege der Boheme und Künstler der Hauptstadt galt. Ein Sandwich mit SerranoSchinken in der Tasca El Horreo ist auch immer eine gute Idee, bevor Sie durch die Straßen des Stadtteils bummeln, um seine vielen Kunstgalerien wie z. B. Echevarría, Mácula oder Vesán kennen zu lernen. Wenn Sie weiter durch das Zentrum von Santa Cruz spazieren gehen, dann erwartet Sie in der Calle Castillo El Círculo de Bellas Artes - ein Kulturraum, der Wahrzeichen von Santa Cruz ist. Hier in der Nähe, über die Brücke Serrador, erreichen wir den Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA). Santa cruz lo tiene, y para muestra basta recorrer las Ramblas admirando muchas de las esculturas que entre 1973 y 1974 formaron parte de la I Exposición Internacional de Escultura en la Calle, en la que participaron 43 artistas reputados como Martín Chirino, Henry Moore u Óscar Domínguez. Actualmente se conservan 27, distribuidas a lo largo de la ciudad pero concentradas su mayoría en las Ramblas y el Parque García Sanabria. Mientras disfruta del paseo, no deje de visitar la Galería Leyendecker, uno de los espacios de arte más reputados de la capital. Conozca también el barrio de El Toscal, que siempre ha sido considerado como bohemio y cuna de artistas de la capital. Un bocadillo de jamón ibérico de la Tasca El Horreo siempre es buena idea si quiere hacer una parada, antes de recorrer las calles toscaleras para conocer sus numerosas galerías como Echevarría, Mácula o Vesán. Si sigue paseando por el centro santacrucero, en la Calle Castillo le espera el Círculo de Bellas Artes, un espacio cultural referente en Santa Cruz. Cerca de aquí, cruzando el Puente Serrador llegamos a Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (TEA), singular edificio obra de los reputados arquitectos suizos Herzog & de Meuron que alberga salas de exposiciones y una gran biblioteca.

We start the day in Calle Nava y Grimón, where we find Palacio de Nava, a building which is currently closed to the public and has an outstanding eclectic basalt stone façade. A few steps away is the Rodríguez Azero mansion hosting the Casino de La Laguna. Of note are the glazed balconies of the façade and the stairway that welcomes visitors in the interior, as well as its pleasant courtyard where you can have a drink under the shade of palms, listening to the trickling water of its central fountain. Taking Calle San Agustin, at the corner with Calle Viana, we can have lunch in Bodegón Viana, before continuing to visit the Lercaro Mansion, home of the History and Anthropology Museum of Tenerife. According to legend, this building is haunted by the ghost of Catalina de Lercaro, who ended her life after learning she was to marry against her will. A few metres away is Palacio Salazar, seat of the Bishopric of Tenerife and renovated in 2009 after it was destroyed by a fire in 2006 which practically only left the façade standing. For dinner, we recommend you make your way to the Concepción area to try one of the famous crêpes of La Bohème.

Wir beginnen den Tag in der Calle Nava y Grimón der Palacio de Nava, der derzeit zwar geschlossen ist, aber durch seine eklektische Fassade aus Basaltstein besticht. Nur ein paar Schritte weiter empfängt uns das Palais Rodríguez Azero, im dem das Kasino von La Laguna untergebracht ist. Bemerkenswert sind insbesondere die verglasten Balkone der Fassade, das zentrale Treppenhaus, das die Besucher empfängt, sowie sein Hof mit einer schönen Terrasse, wo man im Schatten der Palmen etwas zu sich nehmen und dem Murmeln des zentralen Springbrunnens lauschen kann. Wenn wir dann in die Calle San Agustin abbiegen, können wir an der Kreuzung mit der Calle Viana ein schmackhaftes Mittagessen im Bodegón Viana zu uns nehmen, um danach den Lercaro Palast zu besuchen, der das Museum für Geschichte und Anthropologie von Teneriffa beherbergt. Der Legende nach spukt in ihm der Geist von Catalina de Lercaro, die sich das Leben nahm, als sie erfuhr, dass sie gegen ihren Willen verheiratet werden sollte. Wenige Meter entfernt können wir den Palast Salazar betrachten. Er ist Sitz des Bistums von Teneriffa und musste im Jahr 2009 umfassend renoviert werden, nachdem ein verheerender Brand drei Jahre zuvor das Gebäude bis auf die Fassade fast vollständig zerstört hatte. Für das Abendessen empfehlen wir Ihnen, in die Zone der historischen Kirche La Concepción zu gehen, wo Sie sich die berühmten Crêpes des La Bohème munden lassen sollten.

Palacios laguneros Comenzamos en la Calle Nava y Grimón, donde se encuentra el Palacio de Nava, un edificio actualmente cerrado al público que destaca por su ecléctica fachada de piedra basáltica. Avanzando unos pasos nos recibe el edificio que acoge el Casino de La Laguna: el Palacete Rodríguez Azero. Destacan los balcones acristalados de la fachada y la escalinata que recibe a los visitantes en su interior, así como su patio, con una agradable terraza donde tomar algo bajo la sombra de las palmeras escuchando el murmullo de su fuente central. Si tomamos la Calle San Agustin y en el cruce con la Calle Viana, podemos almorzar en el Bodegón Viana, para después visitar el Palacio Lercaro, que alberga el Museo de Historia y Antropología de Tenerife. En él, según dice la leyenda, vive el fantasma de Catalina de Lercaro, quien acabó con su vida tras conocer que debería casarse por obligación… A unos pocos metros está el Palacio Salazar, sede del Obispado de Tenerife y reformado en 2009 tras el incendio que lo arrasó, dejando prácticamente solo la fachada en 2006. Para cenar recomendamos llegar hasta la zona de La Concepción para degustar una de las famosas crêpes de La Bohème.

One of the most beautiful coastal routes of southern Tenerife goes from El Médano (Granadilla de Abona) to Playa San Juan (Guía de Isora). The 30 kilometre distance between these two towns are easy to cover along the TF-1 Motorway. Nobody in this part of the island should leave without a walk around El Médano, a swim in its natural beaches or an ascent to Montaña Roja, a protected wildlife site which lures you as it rises steeply from the sea, after breakfast in any of the bars of the promenade or in Boomerang, in Plaza de Galicia. El Templete (El Médano Shopping Centre) or La Lata (Plaza Roja) feature Canary cuisine of the highest standards. Heading towards Playa San Juan, from El Médano, after the beach of La Tejita, we arrive at Los Abrigos, where the speciality of its restaurants is fish. From there to Playa San Juan, with a stop in Los Cristianos to visit this traditional fishing village with its shopping streets, or to sip a beer in any of the pleasant pavement cafés of the promenade, before continuing to Playa San Juan, another fishing village where we can contemplate the sunset and prepare for a quiet dinner in any of its restaurants or bars, such as San Juan Creativo (Plaza de la Iglesia), Brisa Marina (Avenida Emigrante) or La Marina (Avenida Juan Carlos I).

Von Süden nach Südwesten, zwischen El Médano und Playa San Juan Eine der schönsten Küstenrouten im Süden von Teneriffa liegt zwischen El Médano (Granadilla de Abona) und Playa San Juan (Guía de Isora). Die Orte sind ca. 30 km voneinander entfernt und leicht über die Autobahn TF-1 zu erreichen. Niemand, der diesen Teil der Insel kennen lernen möchte, sollte einen Spaziergang durch El Médano versäumen. Bewundern Sie die natürlichen Strände oder klettern Sie auf den Montaña Roja - ein Naturschutzgebiet, das sich majestätisch über dem Blau des Meeres erhebt.

Vor einem solchen Spaziergang sollten Sie aber ein Frühstück in einer der Bars der Uferpromenade oder in der Cafetería Boomerang an der Plaza de Galicia zur Stärkung zu sich nehmen. Die kanarische Küche auf höchstem Niveau können Sie in dem Restaurant El Templete (Einkaufszentrum El Médano) oder im La Lata (Plaza Roja) genießen. Wir fahren von El Médano weiter in Richtung Playa San Juan über Playa Tejita und Los Abrigos, wo sich die ansässigen Restaurants auf frischen Fisch spezialisiert haben. Auf der Weiterfahrt halten wir in Los Cristianos. Das traditionelle Fischerdorf lädt uns dazu ein, einen Einkaufsbummel durch die Fußgängerzonen zu unternehmen oder ein Glas Bier auf irgendeiner der ruhigen Terrassen der Uferpromenade zu kosten. Der letzte Abschnitt unserer Route führt uns schließlich nach Playa San Juan. In dem alten Fischerdorf erwartet uns ein herrlicher Sonnenuntergang und ein gemütliches Abendessen in einem der Restaurants oder Bars des Ortes, so z. B. im San Juan Creativo (Plaza de la Iglesia), im Brisa Marina (Avenida Emigrante) oder in dem Restaurant La Marina (Avenida Juan Carlos I).

PLAYA LA ARENA

Una de las rutas costeras más bellas que ofrece el Sur de Tenerife se sitúa entre El Médano (Granadilla de Abona) y Playa San Juan (Guía de Isora). Núcleos separados por unos 30 kilómetros, fáciles de recorrer por la autopista TF-1. Nadie que esté en esa parte de la Isla puede irse sin callejear por El Médano, bañarse en sus playas naturales o admirar y ascender hasta Montaña Roja, un paraje natural protegido que emerge con aplomo desde el mar e invita a ser pateado, previo desayuno en cualquiera de los bares del paseo marítimo o bien en la cafetería Boomerang, en la Plaza de Galicia. Comer en el restaurante El Templete (Centro Comercial El Médano), o en La Lata (Plaza Roja), permite saborear cocina canaria de nivel. Rumbo a Playa San Juan, desde El Médano a la playa de La Tejita, llegaremos a Los Abrigos, donde la especialidad de los restaurantes de la zona es el pescado. Desde ahí a Playa San Juan, una parada en Los Cristianos nos permitirá visitar ese tradicional pueblo de pescadores, su zona comercial abierta o tomarnos una caña en cualquiera de sus apacibles terrazas del paseo marítimo para continuar hasta Playa San Juan; otro núcleo pesquero en el que podremos contemplar la puesta de sol y prepararnos para una tranquila cena en alguno de sus restaurantes o bares del pueblo, como en San Juan Creativo (Plaza de la Iglesia), Brisa Marina (Avenida Emigrante) o en el restaurante La Marina (Avenida Juan Carlos I).

Doch sei es an dem einen oder anderen Standort, der Reize gibt es vieler: in wenigen Stunden können Sie das Meer genießen, sich Ihrem Glauben widmen, das bunte Treiben der Pilger beobachten und herausragende Produkte erwerben.

UN DÍA REDONDO EN LA VILLA MARIANA El municipio de Candelaria, referente religioso de Canarias por albergar la basílica de la Patrona isleña, ofrece los miércoles y sábados, de 9 a 14:00 horas, uno de los mercadillos del agricultor más completos del Valle de Güímar, la comarca en la que se ubica esta localidad de gran arraigo marino. Los agricultores, ganaderos y reposteros de la zona ofrecen sus productos frescos a precios muy competitivos y con una calidad que queda corroborada cada uno de esos días con la gran afluencia de consumidores, que repiten y repiten. Los miércoles, los puestos se ubican en las instalaciones del mercado local, mejorado hace 5 años. Los sábados, la oferta se traslada a la plaza del centro comercial Punta Larga, pero, en uno u otro lugar, el atractivo resulta sobrante porque, en unas horas, se puede disfrutar del mar, de la devoción religiosa propia o ajena y de productos que convencen.

CATEDRAL DE LA LAGUNA Buenavista del Norte welcomes us early in the morning, inviting us to visit the picturesque hamlet of El Palmar, with its small houses and rambling streets. From there, a path leads to the town centre of Buenavista, where we will stop in Plaza de Los Remedios for some refreshment and to recover from the walk. Then we head for Icod de Los Vinos to visit the millenary dragon tree. The legend goes that this is a dragon which bleeds when pricked, that is why this tree’s sap is red; whether true or not, the tree is undeniably a magnificent specimen. We leave this town behind us and head for Puerto de la Cruz and lunch in La Tasquita de Min, a restaurant of the town centre which is very well known for its wide assortment of fresh fish and its squid rings fried in batter. Then we recommend you take a few minutes for a coffee in the Water Garden cafeteria, in the heart of the Taoro Park. The colourful vegetation and quiet make this place a veritable haven of peace.

There is nothing better for the afternoon than a refreshing swim in El Bollullo beach in El Rincón (La Orotava), with its volcanic sand bathed by the sea spray of the invigorating Atlantic. To clinch the day, we recommend you make your way to La Laguna, enjoy supper in Cafetería Venezia, and toast to a perfect day with one of their delicious gin and tonics.

Von Buenavista nach La Laguna Buenavista del Norte empfängt uns am frühen Morgen zu einem Besuch des malerischen Dorfes El Palmar mit seinen kleinen Häusern und verwinkelten Gassen. Von dort führt uns ein Fußweg in das Zentrum der Gemeindestadt, wo wir auf der Plaza de Los Remedios bei einem Getränk ein wenig von der Wanderung ausruhen. Von hier aus geht es in Richtung Icod de Los Vinos, wo wir den uralten Drachenbaum bewundern. Der Legende nach handelt es sich um einen wahren Drachen, aus dem Blut hervorquillt, wenn man in ihn einsticht: Aus diesem Grund sei sein Harz von roter Farbe... Wahr oder nicht wahr, was nicht zu leugnen ist, dass der Baum von herrlicher Gestalt ist. Wir verlassen die Stadt und fahren weiter nach Puerto de La Cruz zum Mittagessen in die “La Tasquita de Min” - ein sehr zentral gelegenes Restaurant, das wegen seiner großen Auswahl an frischem Fisch und Tintenfischringen auf römische Art weit bekannt ist. Nach dem Essen empfehlen wir Ihnen, sich ein paar Minuten Zeit für einen Kaffee in dem Café des Jardín Acuático, dem Wassergarten, mitten im Taoro Park zu nehmen seine farbenfrohe Vegetation und Ruhe machen diesen Ort zu einer Oase des Friedens.

Nichts ist besser für den Nachmittag als ein erfrischendes Bad und das gönnen wir uns am besten an der Playa El Bollullo in El Rincon (La Orotava). Der Vulkansand und die erfrischende Brise des Atlantiks werden einen jeden Liebhaber von Meer und Strand zutiefst erfreuen. Um die Ausflugsfahrt perfekt ausklingen zu lassen, empfiehlt es sich, nach La Laguna zu fahren und ein köstliches Tapa-Abendessen in dem Lokal Cafetería Venezia zu genießen. Und zum krönenden Abschluss stoßen wir gleich dort auf einen perfekten Tag mit einem lecker zubereiteten Gin Tonic an.

Desde Buenavista a La Laguna Buenavista del Norte nos recibe a primera hora de la mañana invitándonos a conocer el pintoresco caserío de El Palmar, con pequeñas casas e intrincadas callejuelas. Desde allí parte un sendero que nos lleva al casco del municipio, donde descansaremos en la Plaza de Los Remedios para tomar algo y reponer fuerzas tras el paseo. Desde aquí partimos hacia Icod de Los Vinos, para visitar su drago milenario. La leyenda dice que se trata de un dragón, al que si pinchas sangra, por eso la savia del árbol es roja… cierto o no, lo que es innegable es que se trata de un ejemplar magnífico.

Dejamos atrás el pueblo y ponemos rumbo a Puerto de La Cruz, para almorzar en La tasquita de Min, local muy conocido por su amplia variedad de pescados frescos y por sus calamares a la romana. Recomendamos dedicar unos minutos para el café en la cafetería del Jardín Acuático, en pleno parque Taoro; su colorida vegetación y tranquilidad hacen de este lugar un auténtico remanso de paz.

Nada mejor para la tarde que un refrescante baño, y la playa de El Bollullo en El Rincón (La Orotava), de arena volcánica bañada por la espuma del refrescante Atlántico es la cita perfecta. Para terminar, acérquese hasta La Laguna, disfrute una cena de picoteo en la Cafetería Venezia y brinde por un día perfecto con uno de sus deliciosos gin tonics.

BARRANCO HONDO - IGUESTE DE CANDELARIA Die nur 3 Kilometer lange Wanderung verbindet diese beiden Orte im Südosten Teneriffas, wobei sie über den am besten erhaltenen Streckenabschnitt des historischen Fußpfades führt, der vom frühen 16. Jahrhundert an den Wallfahrtsort der Schutzheiligen der Kanarischen Inseln, Candelaria, mit der Stadt San Cristóbal de La Laguna verband. Die Wanderung beginnt direkt neben dem Fußballplatz von Barranco Hondo am Ende der Straße La Angostura und verläuft über einen serpentinenreichen Weg nach Igueste. Auf dem Weg lernen wir den interessanten Weiler Pasacola kennen und kreuzen die Schluchten von La Gotera, Bocho, Garruncho, Las Porqueras und Cajarche mit herrlichen Ausblicken über das Tal von Güímar.

This walk, of just 3 kilometres, links these two towns of south-eastern Tenerife along the best preserved stretch of the ‘Camino Viejo de Candelaria’, a path which - since the beginning of the 16th century - joins the city of San Cristóbal de La Laguna and the home of the basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria, patroness of the Islands. The walk starts beside the Barranco Hondo football ground, at the end of Calle La Angostura and continues following the contour lines to Igueste, bypassing the interesting hamlet of Pasacola and crossing the Gotera, Bocho, Garruncho, Porqueras and Cajarche ravines, with impressive views overlooking the Güímar valley.

This simple walk of around 3.6 kilometres allows us to cross an awe-inspiring volcanic landscape amidst lava flows of the 1798 eruption, guarded over by the imposing Pico Viejo. We can also enjoy the exceptional beauty of the endemic flora of Mount Teide National Park, especially during the months of May and June, when the exuberant red towers of jewels blossom in all their splendour. We start the walk by the Chahorra lookout point, at kilometre 3 of the TF-38 road (Boca Tauce-Chío) and, after passing beside Roque del Cedro, we continue to the Boca Tauce crossing, beside Juan Évora House. At this point, we can either end the walk or else return to the point of departure.

Die einfache, etwa 3,6 Kilometer lange Route führt uns zu Füßen des majestätisch in die Höhe ragenden Pico Viejo und zwischen den Lavazungen der Eruption von 1798 durch eine atemberaubende Vulkanlandschaft. Vor allem in den Monaten Mai und Juni genießen wir auf der Wanderung die außergewöhnliche Schönheit der endemischen Flora des Teide-Nationalparks, wenn die üppigen Roten Natternköpfe in voller Pracht und Blühte stehen. Wir beginnen unsere Route am Aussichtsplatz von Chahorra bei Kilometer 3 der Inselstraße TF-38 (Boca Tauce - Chío). Nachdem wir den Felsen Roque del Cedro hinter uns gelassen haben, gehen wir weiter in Richtung der Kreuzung von Boca Tauce bis zum Haus von Juan Évora. An dieser Stelle können wir die Route beenden oder über denselben Weg zum Ausgangspunkt zurückkehren.

Esta sencilla ruta, de alrededor de 3,6 kilómetros de longitud, nos permite recorrer un escenario volcánico sobrecogedor entre las lavas de la erupción de 1798, vigilado por la presencia imponente de Pico Viejo. También disfrutaremos de la excepcional belleza de la flora endémica del Parque Nacional del Teide, particularmente durante los meses de mayo y junio, cuando los exuberantes tajinastes rojos se muestran en todo su esplendor. Iniciaremos el recorrido junto al mirador de Chahorra, en el kilómetro 3 de la carretera TF-38 (carretera Boca Tauce-Chío) y, tras pasar junto al Roque del Cedro, avanzaremos hacia el cruce de Boca Tauce, junto a la Casa de Juan Évora. En Este punto se puede finalizar la ruta, o bien regresar al punto de partida.

Tenerife wall gecko The Tenerife wall gecko (scientific name Tarentola delalandii) is a species of lizard of the Gekkonidae family which is less than 8 centimetres long and inhabits the lowland areas of Tenerife. It can be found beneath stones, although it also lives on farm walls in rural districts and on urban walls. It is a nocturnal animal which hunts small insects such as ants, beetles, flies and mosquitoes. Even if its main activity is during the night, it is a reptile and can be seen basking in the sun during the daytime.

It lays one or two eggs at a time on the ground, although it can lay several times per year. Just as with crocodiles, the sex of the embryo is determined by ground temperature during incubation. Most surprisingly, acoustic communications are important for this species, and this gecko emits sounds which are perceptible to the human ear.

Canary pine The Canary pine (Latin name, Pinus canariensis) is a slender, tall and proportioned tree with an average height of between 15 and 25 metres, although it is not unusual to find taller specimens which can reach a height of 65 metres and a girth of 2.5 metres. Pine forests are one of the main plant covers of the island of Tenerife. They are emblematic of the Canaries because, through the centuries, they have provided islanders with timber, heating for households, boats or beds for the animals. Canary pines are a prime representation of the adaptation of living organisms to volcanic terrain and fire, with their capacity to sprout again after forest fires, which have made them an object of desire in many parts of the world.

Kanarengecko Der Kanarengecko mit der wissenschaftliche Bezeichnung Tarentola delalandii ist eine Schuppenechse der Familie der Geckos von nicht mehr als 8 cm Länge, die die tiefer gelegenen Landstriche Teneriffas bewohnt. Man findet ihn unter Steinen, in den Mauern landwirtschaftlicher Nutzflächen und in Mauerwerken städtischer Gebiete. Als nachtaktives Tier jagt er kleine Insekten wie Ameisen, Käfer, Fliegen und Mücken. Obwohl er seine Haupttätigkeit ist den Nachtstunden entfaltet, ist er ein Reptil und man kann ihn auch tagsüber außerhalb der Schlupfhöhlen sehen, wenn er an der Sonne Wärme aufnimmt. Er legt ein oder zwei Eier auf den Boden, kann allerdings auch mehrere Gelege im Laufe eines Jahres haben. Wie bei den Krokodilen hängt das Geschlecht des Embryos von der Bodentemperatur während der Inkubation ab. Das Erstaunliche an dieser Art ist, dass bei ihr die akustische Kommunikation eine wichtige Rolle spielt, deren Laute auch für das menschliche Ohr wahrnehmbar sind.

Perenquén El Perenquén de Teneife (cuyo nombre científico es Tarentola delalandii) en un lagarto de la familia de los Gekos que no sobrepasa los 8 centímetros y que habita las zonas bajas de Tenerife. Se encuentra bajo las piedras aunque también vive en los muros agrícolas de las zonas rurales o en las paredes urbanas. Es un animal de hábitos nocturnos que caza pequeños insectos como hormigas, escarabajos o moscas y mosquitos. A pesar de que su principal momento de actividad es nocturna, son reptiles y se pueden ver tomando el sol fuera de las madrigueras durante el día. Su puesta la hace en el suelo, con uno o dos huevos cada vez, aunque puede tener varias puestas en un año. Y como ocurre con los cocodrilos, el sexo del embrión lo determina la temperatura del suelo durante de incubación. Lo más sorprendente de esta especie es que la comunicación acústica juega un importante papel en esta especie, sonidos que son perceptibles por el oído humano.

Die Kanarische Kiefer (Pinus canariensis in der lateinischen Bezeichnung) ist ein schlanker, hoch wachsender Baum, der eine durchschnittliche Höhe von zwischen 15 und 25 Metern erreicht, manchmal aber sogar bis zu 65 Meter und einen Durchmesser von 2,5 m erreicht. Die nach ihm benannten Kieferwaldformationen gehören zu den wichtigsten Pflanzenformationen Teneriffas. Über Jahrhunderte hinweg besaß die Kanarenkiefer eine enorme Bedeutung für die heimische Inselbevölkerung, da man von ihr Brennholz und Holzkohle für die Wohnungen, Holz für den Schiffsbau oder Einstreu für Tierställe erhielt.

Die Kiefernwälder repräsentieren das beste Beispiel für die Anpassungsfähigkeit eines lebenden Organismus an ein Land von Vulkanen und Feuer, da die Spezies ein großes Vermögen besitzt sich nach Waldbränden zu regenerieren, sodass man sie in weiten Teilen der Welt neidisch betrachtet.

El pino canario (en latín es Pinus canariensis) es un árbol esbelto, compensado, elevado que tiene una altura media que oscila entre los 15 y 25 metros de altura aunque es frecuente tallas mayores que pueden alcanzar los 65 metros de talla y 2,5 metros de diámetro. La formación boscosa que constituyen los pinos se denomina pinar y es una de las principales formaciones vegetales de Tenerife. Es uno de los principales referentes de las Islas que ha servido para que los canarios, a lo largo de las generaciones obtuviéramos leña, carbón para los hogares o los barcos o la cama para los animales. Los pinares representan el máximo exponente de adaptación de un organismo vivo a una tierra volcanes y fuego con esa capacidad de reverdecer tras los incendios que han hecho del pino canario el objeto de deseo en muchas partes del mundo.

250 grams of sugar 10 egg yolks ½ litre of water Lemon rind Cinnamon stick PREPARATION Beat the yolks in a bowl and leave. Prepare syrup putting the water, lemon rind, cinnamon stick and sugar in a medium saucepan. Boil until the mixture reaches the right consistency, then remove the cinnamon and lemon rind. Leave to cool.

Now, add the yolks gradually to the syrup while mixing slowly with a whisk. Then simmer the mixture on a double boiler without allowing it to boil and stirring occasionally. Stop when it reaches a creamy consistency. Serve in glasses and when cool, refrigerate.

ZUBEREITUNG

ELABORACIÓN Batir las yemas en un bol y reservar. Preparar un almíbar poniendo el agua, la cáscara de limón, una rama de canela y el azúcar en un caldero mediano. Llevar a ebullición hasta que la mezcla adquiera consistencia, entonces quitamos la canela y la cáscara de limón.

Reservamos hasta que esté templado.

Ahora, añadimos poco a poco las yemas al almíbar removiendo con un batidor despacio. A continuación, cocinar la mezcla al baño maría sin dejar que hierva y removiendo de vez en cuando. Parar cuando tengamos una mezcla cremosa. Servir en copas y cuando se templen, refrigerar.

Zum Kochen bringen, bis die Masse Konsistenz annimmt. Die Zitronenschale und die Zimtstange herausnehmen, den Topf vom Herd nehmen und abkühlen lassen.

Das Eigelb nach und nach in den Sirup geben, vorsichtig unterheben und langsam schlagen.

Dann die Masse in einem Wasserbad erhitzen, aber nicht kochen lassen, ab und zu umrühren, bis wir eine Creme erhalten. Die Masse in Dessertschalen geben, abkühlen lassen und in den Kühlschrank stellen.

La Santa Shrimp. Known with this name in Lanzarote, the soldier brush shrimp is a growingly popular and sought-after product in the fishmonger’s of Tenerife, even though large quantities are not fished. This species of crustacean is found in restaurants as it is considered a delicacy by many chefs, who are aware of its quality in terms of flavour and texture.

Tiefseegarnele Gamba de La Santa. Die unter diesem, von Lanzarote stammenden Namen überall auf den Kanaren bekannte Tiefseegarnele erfreut sich auch auf Teneriffa zunehmender Beliebtheit und wird immer häufiger von hiesigen Fischhändlern angeboten, obwohl sie nicht in großen Mengen gefangen wird. Sie gilt unter vielen Köchen als eine Delikatesse und findet sich so auch in den Vorratskammern so mancher Restaurants, die die Aromen und Texturen dieses Krustentiers schätzen.

Papaya Premium der Kanaren. Die aus der La Laguna zugehörigen Gemeinde Tejina stammende, preisgekrönte Papaya wird nachhaltig, umweltfreundlich, ohne Anwendung von Pflanzenschutzmitteln und nur unter Nutzung der hervorragenden klimatischen Bedingungen des Landstrichs angebaut. Almogrote. This is a speciality from La Gomera made from the Island’s cheese, which is very tasty and slightly spicy. A very mature cheese (especially, a very hard cheese) has to be used, which is ground and mixed with hot pepper, garlic and olive oil to obtain a dense consistency.

Desert truffles. The singular terfezia arenaria comes from Lanzarote and is a hybrid between a tuber and a mushroom. It is found underground and is detected by the characteristic plant (tuberaria guttata) which grows on top. Some specimens can weigh up to 400 grams and they have a slightly sweet taste; they are often used as ingredient in scrambled eggs.

Käseaufstrich - Almogrote. Die Käsepaste stammt von der Insel La Gomera. Ihre Hauptzutat ist ein sehr würziger, leicht scharfer Käse der Kolumbus-Insel.

Zur Herstellung verwendet man eine aus sehr reifem, gehärtetem Käse geraspelte Masse und mischt diese nach Geschmack mit Peperoni, Knoblauch und Olivenöl.

Alles wird so lange gerührt, bis die Masse die gewünschte cremeartige Konsistenz erhält.

Almogrote

Die von Lanzarote stammende Wüstentrüffel terfezia arenaria ist ein Hybridgewächs zwischen Knolle und Pilz, das unterirdisch wächst und durch das über ihm wachsende charakteristische Gefleckte Sandröschen (Tuberaria guttata) entdeckt werden kann. Einige Exemplare können ein Gewicht von bis zu 400 Gramm erreichen. Die Wüstentrüffel hat einen leicht süßlichen Geschmack und wird als Zutat vor allem bei Rühreigerichten verwendet.

Algunos ejemplares pueden pesar hasta 400 gramos y tiene un sabor ligeramente dulce y un recurso habitual es presentarlo en un revuelto.

This hotel resort features up to six different types of cuisine in its restaurants (German, Mexican, classical, beach club…).

Nevertheless, of the range of options offered by executive chef Diego Laureano Schattenhofer (who invented the concept of the random tapa) we should make special mention of breakfast. The masterful head chef uses the griddle to create up to five very delicious egg-based creations. The Guanchito Cortés (mojo-mole sauce from Oaxaca) is superb, eggs Benedictine are reinterpreted and the combination of Andalucian baby squid and chilaquiles is excellent. It is well worth the experience.

This is a seafood restaurant full of charm found in the historic centre (World Heritage Site) which, in the two years since it opened, has known how to lure good food lovers, attracted by discerning Mediterranean cuisine. The restaurant serves seafood from Galicia and other excellent ingredients from local sources (as it should be) and the welcoming and relaxing atmosphere make for a very pleasant meal. It is not runof-the-mill and has reasonable prices with an impeccable service. The house policy is to pamper guests and to serve products of the highest quality. It won first prize from ‘Amigos Canarios del Buen Comer’ in 2017.

Situated in the historic centre of the town, in a highly singular building, it is the typical family-run business with excellent dishes prepared by head chef Alfonso Borges Herrera, who enhances the best vegetables of the area with both traditional Canary recipes, and also Mediterranean and international preparations. It has a highly personal hallmark, both in terms of preparation and of presentation. It features fresh local and seasonal produce combined with modern techniques.

Der Hotelkomplex bietet innerhalb seiner gastronomischen Räume bis zu sechs verschiedene Küchen (deutsche, mexikanische, klassische, Beach Club, ...). Innerhalb von ihnen sei aber besonders auf die des Küchenchefs Diego Laureano Schattenhofer hingewiesen, der das Konzept der “fliegenden Tapas” entwickelte und dessen Frühstückskonzept es besonders hervorzuheben gilt. Der geniale Koch stellt sich an die Bratplatte, um eine Reihe von Kreationen aus Eiern zu schaffen. Sehr lecker: für die Mutigen bis zu 5 Gänge.

Hervorragend ist der Guanchito Cortés (poschierte Mojo-Mole aus Guajaca), der neu interpretierte Benedictine oder die Kombination von andalusischen Puntillas mit Chilaquiles. Das Restaurant ist fürwahr einen Besuch wert.

Establecimiento temático con mucho encanto situado en el casco histórico (Patrimonio de la Humanidad) que en los dos años desde su apertura ha sabido atraer a los amantes del buen comer, atraídos por una cuidada cocina mediterránea. Se basa el restaurante en mariscos de la rías gallegas y otros frutos del mar de excelencia, en el plaza de interior (como mandan los cánones) y la atmósfera tranquila y acogedora va a propiciar buen rato de mesa y mantel. Diferente a lo habitual y a un precio razonable y con servicio impecable. La política de la casa es trabajar con mucho mimo y productos de alta calidad. Máximo galardón 2017 de Amigos Canarios del Buen Comer.

Dieser ganz besondere gastronomische Raum in der La Recova von Santa Cruz de Tenerife ist in einer bequemen, breiten Bar in U-Form mit der Küche in der Mitte entworfen worden. Es liegt gegenüber dem bekannten Fischgeschäft Nicomedes und bietet Sitzplätze für 25 Gäste. El complejo hotelero comprime en sus espacios gastronómicos hasta seis tipos de cocina (alemana, mexicana, clásica, beach club,…). Sin embargo, de esa constelación que brinda el chef ejecutivo Diego Laureano Schattenhofer (que ideó el concepto de tapas volanderas) cabe hacer hincapié en el concepto de desayuno. El genial jefe de cocina se pone al frente de la plancha para crear una línea de creaciones con huevo.

Sabrosísimo: para los valientes hasta 5 pases. Soberbio el Guanchito Cortés (mojo-mole de Guajaca), el Benedictine reinterpretado o la combinación puntillas andaluzy chilaquiles. Bien vale la experiencia.

Nightlife Recommendations PABLO PÉREZ MANSION LOUNGE & MUSIC Mansion Lounge and Music is one of the iconic spots (in terms of clubbing and fun) of the north of the Island and one of my favourites of all of Tenerife. There are two levels. The lower floor hosts the main dance floor and has a bar with tables and chairs all around. At the top of a flight of stairs is the second level with the private booths. The premises have spectacular décor throughout; the layout, colours and lighting are stunning.

Das Mansion Lounge and Music ist in Bezug auf Ausgehen und Party einer der symbolträchtigsten Orte im Norden der Insel. Für mich persönlich ist es eines meiner Lieblingslokale ganz Teneriffas. Das Lokal ist in zwei Ebenen unterteilt: im Erdgeschoss befindet sich die Haupttanzfläche, eine Bar und zahlreiche Sitzgruppen, die sich über den ganzen Raum verteilen. Wenn wir die Treppe hochsteigen, kommen wir auf die zweite Ebene, auf der sich auch die Separees befinden. Das gesamte Lokal ist spektakulär eingerichtet und dekoriert, sodass die Verteilung der Räume, die Farben und das Spiel der Lichter nicht besser sein könnten.

BLING BLING This discotheque is the talk of the town right now. The premises are divided into two areas: the upper floor, with a terrace to enjoy the fresh air thanks to the nearby beach; and the lower floor, an indoor and cosier space. Both zones play the same style of music, with special emphasis on reggaeton. If you want a night out in the hotspot of southern Tenerife, this is the place for you.

Die Diskothek ist heute in aller Munde. Mansion Lounge and Music es uno de los sitios icónicos (en lo que a fiesta y diversión se refiere) del norte de la Isla, y para mi uno de mis preferidos. El local está dividido en dos niveles, una planta baja donde se encuentra la pista de baile principal, provista de una barra y mesas y sillas distribuidas por todo el espacio. Al subir unas escaleras encontraremos el segundo nivel, donde se encuentra la zona de reservados.

Todo el local cuenta con un decorado espectacular donde el estilo, la distribución de espacios, los colores y el juego de luces, no podrían ser mejores.

Esta discoteca está en boca de todos hoy en día. Un ambiente dividido en dos zonas, la planta alta, una terraza en la que se puede disfrutar de un espacio abierto y fresco gracias a la cercanía a la playa, y la planta baja, una zona cerrada y algo más íntima.

Ambas cuentan con el mismo estilo de música, primando el reggaeton. Si deseas una velada en el lugar de moda de la zona sur de Tenerife, este es tu sitio.
