Una isla de cine BENEHARO MESA

Ciencia ficción, aventuras, acción, fantasía, coches… Canarias es un lugar que ha abarcado a lo largo de toda su historia cinematográfica diferentes géneros, pues ha demostrado que es capaz de ofrecer una diversidad de escenarios y paraísos naturales que se ajustan a cualquier tipo de película.

Gracias a las piezas del séptimo arte rodadas en las Islas podemos estar ante un planeta del universo de Star Wars, en mitad de la mitología griega con Perseo en Ira de Titanes, en el siglo XVI gracias a Oro, en un circuito de carreras con la adrenalina y velocidad de Fast & Furious 6 o en el mundo fantástico de The Witcher, serie grabada hace un año para la plataforma Netflix.

En Tenerife uno de los ejemplos más

representativos es, sin duda, Ira de Titanes, donde el monte de pinar de La Esperanza luce en todo su esplendor, junto con el paisaje volcánico del Parque Nacional del Teide, para una ambientación tan mítica como la griega.

En el género de aventura está la película Oro, adaptación de un relato breve del escritor Arturo Pérez-Reverte. Este film se grabó en la zona de Chamorga, un espacio situado en el Parque Rural de Anaga, que goza de gran diversidad y que sirvió de escenario para ambientar la búsqueda en el Amazonas de la legendaria ciudad de El Dorado.

La saga de carreras Fast & Furious es uno de los más claros exponentes del género de acción y carreras de coches.

Se trata de una franquicia que escogió las carreteras de Tenerife para desarrollar algunas escenas frenéticas al volante, como las que rodaron en la

icónica carretera de Teno y otras partes del sur de la Isla.

En cuanto a filmes de acción, se encuentra Rambo V, con el famoso mercenario que vio la luz en la gran pantalla en los años ochenta y que regresó a los cines con lugares fácilmente reconocibles para el público local como el auditorio

de Tenerife, las carreteras de Llano del Moro, el barrio de La Salud y el municipio de Santa Úrsula, entre otras muchas zonas que sirvieron para mostrar la nueva historia de John Rambo. ¿A qué esperas para aventurarte en algunos de los escenarios más icónicos de Tenerife?

Eine Insel wie im Film Science Fiction, Abenteuer, Action, Fantasy, Verfolgungsszenen... Auf den Kanarischen Inseln sind im Laufe ihrer Kinogeschichte Filme ganz verschiedene Genres gedreht worden, wobei der Archipel bewiesen hat, dass er mit seiner Vielfalt an Schauplätzen und Naturparadiesen für jede Art von Film die passenden Drehorte bieten kann.

Dank der auf den Inseln gefilmten Streifen der siebten Kunst können wir auf einen Planeten des unendlichen Universums von Star Wars reisen, uns mit Perseus in Zorn der Titanen mitten in der griechischen Mythologie befinden, dank Gold das 16. Jahrhundert erleben, eine Rennstrecke voller Adrenalin und Höchsttempo wie in Fast & Furious 6 betrachten oder uns in die Fantasy-Welt von The Witcher versetzen, der vor einem Jahr für Netflix aufgenommenen Serie.

Eines der besten Beispiele auf Teneriffa stellt zweifellos der Film Zorn der Titanen dar, in dem uns der Kiefernwald von La Esperanza in seiner ganzen Pracht und die atemberaubenden Vulkanlandschaften des TeideNationalparks in die mythologische Welt des antiken Griechenlands versetzen.

Innerhalb der Gattung der Abenteuerfilme wurde der Streifen Oro - eine Adaption einer Kurzgeschichte des Schriftstellers Arturo Pérez-Reverte - in der Gegend von Chamorga, im AnagaLandschaftspark gedreht, der eine enorme Vielfalt an Landschaften bietet und die ideale Kulisse für die Suche nach der legendären Stadt El Dorado im Amazonasgebiet war.

Die Saga von Fast & Furious zählt mit ihren spektakulären Autorennen ohne Zweifel zu den berühmtesten Filmen mit Verfolgungsjagden. Die FranchiseProduktion wählte die Straßen Teneriffas, um einige der spannendsten Autoverfolgungsszenen zu drehen, wie zum Beispiel auf den sehenswerten Bergstraßen im Teno-Gebirge und in anderen Teilen Südteneriffas.

Was die Actionfilme betrifft, so wurde mit Rambo V, dem berühmten Söldner, der in den 1980er Jahren das Licht der Welt auf der großen Leinwand erblickte, ein weltweit bekannter Film dieses Genres auch auf Teneriffa aufgenommen. In dem ins Kino zurückgekehrten Filmklassiker erkennt das lokale Publikum ohne Probleme die zahlreichen Schauplätze der Insel, wie u.a. das Auditorium in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, die Straßen von Llano del Moro, das Stadtviertel La Salud und die Gemeinde Santa Úrsula, wo die neue Geschichte von John Rambo erzählt wird.

An island made for films Science fiction, adventures, action, fantasy, cars… The Canary Islands have embraced different genres throughout their history as a film location and have demonstrated that their diverse settings and natural paradises are suited to any type of film.

The various films shot in the islands allow us to imagine ourselves on a planet belonging to the Star Wars universe, steep ourselves in Greek mythology with Perseus in Wrath of the Titans, travel back to the 17th century with Gold, experience the thrill and speed of a racing circuit in Fast & Furious 6, or the world of fantasy of The Witcher, the Netflix series filmed here last year.

One of the best-known examples in Tenerife is, of course, Wrath of the Titans, which shows off in all its splendour the pine forest of La Esperanza and the volcanic landscapes of the Teide National Park, which provide an ideal setting for the tale from Greek mythology.

The adventure film genre includes Gold, a screen adaptation of the Arturo Pérez-Reverte short story. This film was shot in Chamorga in the Anaga Rural Park, an area of great natural diversity which served as the backdrop for the quest to find the legendary city of El Dorado in the Amazon jungle.

The Fast & Furious saga is a prime example of action and racing movies. The franchise chose Tenerife’s roads for some of its frenetic behindthe-wheel scenes, including those filmed on the iconic Teno road and other parts of south Tenerife.

Action films shot on the island include Rambo V: Last Blood, starring the famous mercenary who originally hit the big screen in the 1980s and has now returned to cinemas with locations readilyrecognisable to locals in Tenerife, including the Auditorium, the roads around Llano del Moro, the La Salud district, and the town of Santa Úrsula - just some of the many spots used in the latest John Rambo story.

El secreto de Fasnia se esconde entre roques

De los municipios del sur de Tenerife, Fasnia es uno de los menos conocidos turísticamente y, sin embargo, esconde tesoros que resaltar. Del litoral, uno sin duda es la playa de El Abrigo, con una superficie que sorprende y clara excepción en un amplio tramo de costa sin un rincón así, desde el Puertito de Güímar hasta La Punta, en Arico. El Abrigo se ubica junto a la zona de Los Roques, casi más conocida por algunos por la gasolinera y cafetería de la TF-1 que por esta joya. No obstante, se trata de una playa de atractiva arena en muchas partes. De grandes dimensiones en verano y en bajamar, es muy frecuentada, incluso por familias, en época estival, pero se mantiene todo el año y ofrece muchos periodos de soledad y una singular sensación de espacio virgen. Aunque hay que extremar el cuidado con las corrientes, también regala días de océano dormido dignos de disfrutar… Y de no desvelar el secreto… ¡Sssssss!

Fasnia’s secret is hidden among rocks Of all the towns in south Tenerife, Fasnia is one of the least known by tourists and yet it is home to hidden treasures. One of these on its coastline is undoubtedly the surprising and exceptional El Abrigo beach, the only one of its kind on a shoreline stretching from Puertito de Güímar down to La Punta in Arico. El Abrigo is located in the Los Roques area, which is probably better known by some for its petrol station and cafeteria rather than this jewel. However, it has many attractive sandy parts and can become quite big in summer and at low tide, proving very popular with visitors, including families. It is usable all year, however, and is frequently solitary, giving the unique feeling of being in an unspoilt space.

Although care needs to be taken with the currents, you can also enjoy days with still waters…. But don’t tell anyone … Shhh!

Das Geheimnis Fasnias verbirgt sich zwischen Felsen Von allen Gemeinden Südteneriffas ist Fasnia wohl die touristisch am wenigsten bekannte. Dennoch verbirgt sie Schätze, die es unbedingt hervorzuheben gilt. An der Küste ist zweifellos einer von ihnen der Strand El Abrigo. Er besitzt eine überraschend große Fläche und hat in dem weiten Küstenabschnitt von El Puertito de Güímar bis La Punta, in Arico nicht seinesgleichen. Die Playa El Abrigo liegt in der Nähe der Zone von Los Roques, die bei einigen fast besser bekannt für die dortige Tankstelle und Cafeteria an der Autobahn TF-1 ist, als für dieses Juwel, obwohl er in vielen Teilen, vor allem im Sommer und bei Ebbe, ein attraktiver Sandstrand ist,. Der Strand ist gerade im Sommer auch sehr beliebt bei Familien, bietet aber das ganze Jahr über Tage, an denen man an ihm das Gefühl der Einsamkeit und von unberührter Natur genießen kann. Obwohl man wegen der Strömungen extrem vorsichtig sein muss, gibt es auch viele Tage, an denen der Ozean ruht und er es fürwahr wert ist, genossen zu werden. Aber bitte das Geheimnis nicht verraten!

Garbanzas. Uno de los platos emblemáticos de la cocina tradicional. ¿Y por qué en género femenino? El dilema de cuándo son garbanzos y cuándo garbanzas se dirime, según muchas de nuestras sabias cocineras, por descripción visual: los primeros, pequeños y lisos; las segundas, grano grande y arrugado. ¡Y un compuesto bien sabroso!

Cebolla de Guayonge. Es un género que ha conquistado un lugar emblemático entre los productos del terruño canario. Se caracteriza por su color rojo púrpura, tres o cuatro centros en su interior y mayor grado de dulzor. Se cultiva en la zona que le da denominación, Guayonge, en el municipio de Tacoronte, entre los 200 y los 400 metros sobre el nivel del mar. Es una variedad de verano que se puede encontrar en su estado óptimo de mayo a julio en nuestros mercados.

Flor de sal de Fuencaliente. Es un producto de alta calidad gastronómica que, aunque procede de La Palma, es muy valorado en Tenerife por la finura de las escamas, únicas en delicadeza por las propiedades con las que se forma y cristaliza. Un producto gourmet que puede competir frente a otras fuera de serie como la Maldon o la del Himalaya.

Chickpeas (‘garbanzas’). This is one of the flagship dishes of traditional Canarian cuisine.

Why is it a female noun in Spanish? According to many of our wise chefs, the dilemma of whether to use the male noun (‘garbanzos’) or the female version (‘garbanzas’) is resolved by the appearance of the chickpeas: the former are small and smooth, the latter are bigger and coarser in texture. They make a tasty stew!

Guayonge Onions. These onions occupy a prominent place Canarian farming products. They have a characteristic red-purple colour, three or four centres and are sweeter than most onions. They are grown in the area from which they take their name - Guayonge, in the municipality of Tacoronte, at heights of between 200 and 400 metres above sea level. A summer variety, they are found at their best in markets between May and July.

Fuencaliente sea salt flakes ‘(flor de sal’). This is a top-quality gastronomic product which, although from La Palma, is highly prized in Tenerife due to its fine flakes, whose shape and crystallisation properties make them uniquely delicate. A gourmet product, the flor de sal is a match for other extraordinary sea salt flakes such as Maldon or Himalaya salt.

Kichererbsen. Diese Hülsenfrüchte gelten auf den Kanaren als ein Wahrzeichen der traditionellen Küche.

Allerdings kommt es immer wieder zu heftigen Disputen unter den weisen Köchinnen, welcher Name für sie der richtige sei, denn es gibt derer zwei. Doch dieser Streit kann am besten mit einer visuellen Unterscheidung geschlichtet werden: Die kleineren, glatten Kichererbsen sind die „Garbanzos“, und die größeren, runzeligen die „Garbanzas“. In beiden Fällen aber schmecken sie hervorragend in den gleichnamigen Eintopfgerichten.

Guayonge-Zwiebel. Die Zwiebel hat sich längst einen Stammplatz unter den Produkten des kanarischen Landbaus erobert. Sie zeichnet sich durch ihre purpurrote Farbe, drei oder vier Zentren in ihrem Inneren und einen höheren Süßegrad aus. Angebaut wird sie zwischen 200 und 400 Metern über dem Meeresspiegel im namengebenden Landstrich „Guayonge“ in der Gemeinde Tacoronte. Als Sommerzwiebel kann man sie in ihrer besten Qualität von Mai bis Juli auf unseren Märkten finden.

Flor de sal aus Fuencaliente. Das „Blütensalz“ ist ein Produkt von hoher gastronomischer Qualität, das, obwohl es von La Palma stammt, auf Teneriffa wegen der Feinheit der Schuppen hoch geschätzt wird. Heute gilt es vor allem aufgrund dieser einzigartigen Feinheit der Eigenschaften, mit denen es sich bildet und kristallisiert, als wahres Gourmet-Produkt, das mit anderen herausragenden Marken wie Maldon oder aus dem Himalaya durchaus konkurrieren kann.

Ingredients:

• ½ kg de garbanzos • 1 cebolla • 1 cabeza de ajos • 2 tomates de fritura • Pimentón dulce • 1 hoja de laurel • 400 g de costillas de cerdo troceadas • Chorizo • Pimienta negra (si gusta un poco picante) • Sal • Vino blanco • Aceite de oliva

• ½ kg chickpeas • 1 onion • 1 head of garlic • 2 frying tomatoes • Sweet paprika • 1 bay leaf • 400 g diced pork ribs • Chorizo • Black pepper (for a slightly spicy flavour) • Salt • White wine • Olive oil

Elaboración

Method

Tanto los garbanzos como las costillas (si estas son saladas) se dejan en remojo la noche anterior. En una olla con un poco de aceite de oliva freímos las costillas hasta que se doren y reservamos. En el mismo aceite, elaboramos el sofrito, con la cebolla, los ajos, los tomates y un chorrito de vino blanco, y añadimos el chorizo. A continuación, echamos el pimentón dulce, rehogamos por unos segundos e incorporamos las costillas. Ahora es el momento de agregar los garbanzos, junto a la sal, el laurel y la pimienta al gusto. Cubrimos con agua y durante la cocción podemos asustar a los garbanzos, echando, dos o tres veces, agua caliente para ayudar a ablandarlos. Cuando estén tiernos, retiramos del fuego y servimos. ¡Buen provecho!

Steep the chickpeas and ribs (if salted) the night before. Fry the ribs in a pan with a little olive oil until golden brown and put them aside. Use the same oil to sauté the onion, garlic, tomatoes and a small amount of white wine, and then add the chorizo. Next, add the sweet paprika, fry everything gently for a few seconds and add the ribs. It is now time to add the chickpeas, along with the salt, bay leaf and pepper to taste.

Cover with water and, during cooking, top up twice or three times with hot water to help soften the chickpeas.

When they are tender, remove from the hob and serve. Enjoy!

Zutaten: • ½ kg Kichererbsen • 1 Zwiebel • 1 Knoblauchzwiebel • 2 gebratene Tomaten • Süßer Paprika • 1 Lorbeerblatt • 400 g zerteilte Schweinerippchen • Chorizo-Pfefferwurst • Schwarzer Pfeffer (wenn Sie es etwas scharf mögen) • Salz • Weißwein • Olivenöl

Zubereitung Sowohl die Kichererbsen als auch die Rippchen (falls sie gesalzen sind) werden über Nacht eingeweicht. In einem Topf mit etwas Olivenöl die Rippchen goldbraun braten und beiseite stellen.

In demselben Öl braten wir die Zwiebel, Knoblauch, Tomaten zusammen mit einem Spritzer Weißwein an und fügen die Pfefferwurst hinzu. Dann das süße Paprikapulver hinzugeben, einige Sekunden anbraten und die Rippchen hinzufügen. Nun ist es auch an der Zeit, die Kichererbsen hinzuzufügen und mit Salz, Lorbeerblatt und Pfeffer abschmecken. Mit Wasser bedecken.

Während des Kochens können wir die Kichererbsen ab und zu erschrecken, indem wir zwei- oder dreimal heißes Wasser auf sie gießen, um sie weicher zu machen. Wenn sie zart sind, nehmen wir sie vom Herd und servieren den Eintopf.

Las primeras informaciones referentes al pino canario las aportó Plinio el Viejo en el siglo I d. C., tras una expedición encomendada por Juba II a las llamadas “islas afortunadas”. En su viaje, Plinio señaló la abundancia de piñones que desprendían los pinos. Sin embargo, con la posterior caída del Imperio romano occidental en el siglo V d. Esta especie es una de las más representativas de toda la flora que habita en el Archipiélago. Puede llegar a alcanzar una altura superior a los 60 metros y se encuentra de forma natural en Tenerife, La Palma, Gran Canaria y El Hierro, mientras que en el resto de islas se ha tratado de repoblar de manera artificial. Este árbol se puede hallar a partir de los 400 metros de altitud y se calcula que su extensión total en Canarias comprende unas 70 000 hectáreas.

Su madera fue de gran utilidad para la construcción de armas, herramientas y viviendas. De hecho, los guanches se sirvieron de la pinocha (hojas secas que caen del pino) para colocarla bajo las pieles curtidas en las que dormían.

Es una raza autóctona de Canarias y su origen se remonta a tiempos prehispánicos, en los que, según las crónicas de los conquistadores, los aborígenes lo utilizaban como un perro de pastoreo. Posteriormente, su raza se mezcló con la del presa español, bulterrier, presa majorero y bardino. A partir de estos cruces se comenzó a emplear como perro de peleas, práctica que se abolió en 1970.

Con una altura de casi 70 centímetros y con 60 kilos de peso aproximadamente, es un animal que requiere un ejercicio diario y dieta adecuada, pues tiende a padecer displasia de cadera y torsión gástrica.

A pesar de su aspecto, es un perro con un carácter manso, aunque es desconfiado con los extraños y posee un instinto protector de quienes considera su familia, por lo que se recomienda socializarlo desde cachorro con otras personas y animales.

The earliest information concerning Canarian pine trees was given by Pliny the Elder in the 1st century A.D., following an expedition commissioned by King Juba II to the “fortunate islands”. On his travels, Pliny noted the abundance of pine cones given off by the trees.

However, with the fall of the western Roman Empire in the 5th century A.D., much of the information on the Canaries was lost.

This species of tree is one of the most characteristic of all the flora in the Islands. It can reach heights of over 60 metres and is found naturally in Tenerife, La Palma, Gran Canaria and El Hierro, whereas on the other islands it has been repopulated artificially. The pines grow at altitudes above 400 metres and cover an estimated total area of 70,000 hectares in the Canaries.

In past times its timber proved very valuable for making weapons and implements, and also for housing. The native guanches would place the pine needles from the trees under the animal skins they used for sleeping on.

This breed of dog is native to the Canary Islands and its origins date back to pre-Hispanic times, when according to the chronicles of the conquistadors - it was used by the early inhabitants of the islands as a shepherd dog. The breed was later crossed with the Spanish mastiff, bull terrier, Fuerteventura mastiff and Bardino. Following these cross-breedings, it began to be used for dog fighting, a practice banned in 1970.

Measuring nearly 70 cm in height and weighing around 60 kilogrammes, the Canarian mastiff needs daily exercise and an appropriate diet as it tends to suffer from hip dysplasia and twisted stomach.

Despite its appearance, it is quite a gentle dog although it is wary of strangers and its instinct is to protect those it considers to be its family, which is why it is advisable to socialise it with other people and animals from a very early age.

Jahrhundert n. Chr. ging jedoch ein Großteil der Informationen über die Kanaren verloren.

Der Baum gilt als einer der Wahrzeichen der Flora des gesamten Archipels. Er kann eine Höhe von über 60 Metern erreichen und ist auf Teneriffa, La Palma, Gran Canaria und El Hierro heimisch, während er auf den anderen Inseln zur Wiederaufforstung neu gepflanzt wurde.

Die Kanarische Kiefer ist ab einer Höhe von 400 Metern ü. M. zu finden und ihre gesamte Waldfläche auf dem Archipel wird auf etwa 70 000 Hektar geschätzt.

Ihr Holz diente auf vielfache Weise zur Herstellung von Waffen und Werkzeugen, sowie beim Hausbau. Die Guanches, die Ureinwohner Teneriffas, nutzten außerdem die abgefallenen Kiefernadeln als Schlafunterlage unter gegerbten Felldecken.

Kanarische Dogge Der Dogo oder Presa Canario ist eine auf den Kanarischen Inseln heimische Rasse, deren Ursprung auf die vorspanische Zeit zurückgeht, als sie laut den Chroniken der Konquistadoren von den Ureinwohnern zum Hüten ihrer Herden verwendet wurde. Später mischte sich allerdings die Rasse mit der Spanischen Dogge, dem Bullterrier, der FuerteventuraDogge und dem Majorero Canario. Mit diesen Kreuzungen begann man, die Dogge auch als Kampfhund zu verwenden, eine Praxis, die 1970 abgeschafft wurde.

Mit einer Größe von fast 70 Zentimetern und einem Gewicht von etwa 60 Kilo ist es ein Tier, das täglich Bewegung und eine angemessene Ernährung benötigt, da es zu Hüftdysplasie und Magentorsionen neigt.

Trotz seines Aussehens ist die Kanarische Dogge ein Hund mit einem sanften Charakter. Da sie aber Fremden gegenüber misstrauisch ist und einen Beschützerinstinkt gegenüber denjenigen hat, die sie als ihre Familie betrachtet, wird empfohlen, sie bereits im frühen Welpenalter an andere Menschen und Tiere zu gewöhnen.

SENDERO SAN JOSÉ DE LOS LLANOS-GARACHICO

Walking on lava from the Trevejo volcano Our walk commences in San José de Los Llanos.

The PR-TF 43.1 trail takes us through dense pine forest, which soon gives way to our first glimpse of the Trevejo volcano which erupted on 5 May 1706 and caused extensive damage to Garachico. The landscape dominated by the field of volcanos along the Abeque Ridge and the Teide-Pico Viejo edifice is simply stunning. We then follow the PR-TF 43 trail, which gives us the chance to stop off at the Arenas Negras recreation area in the shade of pine trees. After passing the small church of St Francis of Assisi in La Montañeta, we walk through the lava flows of the Trevejo volcano, where vegetation grows with difficulty, and eventually come to the village of San Juan del Reparo where we can take in the wonderful view of the end-point of our walk: Garachico town and harbour.

San José de Los Llanos es el punto de inicio de la ruta. A través del sendero PR-TF 43.1, nos adentraremos en un frondoso pinar, que pronto dará paso a las primeras vistas sobre el volcán de Trevejo, erupción volcánica del 5 de mayo de 1706, que provocó grandes daños en Garachico. El paisaje, con el campo de volcanes de la dorsal de Abeque y el edificio Teide-Pico Viejo de protagonistas, es sencillamente abrumador. Seguiremos el sendero PR-TF 43, que nos dará la opción de hacer una parada en el área recreativa de Arenas Negras, a la sombra de los pinos. A partir de la ermita de San Francisco de Asís, en la Montañeta, caminaremos sobre las coladas de lavas del volcán de Trevejo, donde la vegetación trata de abrirse camino, hasta llegar al pueblo de San Juan del Reparo, desde el cual tendremos una visión privilegiada del punto final de nuestra ruta, la villa y puerto de Garachico.

Ausgangspunkt der Wanderung ist San José de Los Llanos. Über den Wanderweg PR-TF 43.1 gelangen wir in einen üppigen Kiefernwald, der aber schon bald den ersten Blick auf den Vulkan Trevejo freigibt, durch dessen Ausbruch am 5. Mai 1706 verheerende Schäden in Garachico verursacht wurden. Mit den Lavafeldern auf dem Kamm des Abeque und dem Vulkangebäude des Teide-Pico Viejo im Vordergrund blicken wir auf eine schlichtweg atemberaubende Landschaft. Wir folgen nun dem Weg PR-TF 43, der uns die Möglichkeit gibt, auf dem Grill- und Erholungsplatz von Arenas Negras im Schatten der Kiefern eine Rast einzulegen. Von der Kapelle San Francisco de Asís in La Montañeta aus wandern wir weiter über die Lavaströme des Vulkans Trevejo, wo die Vegetation versucht, sich ihren Weg zu bahnen, bis wir das Dorf San Juan del Reparo erreichen. Von hier aus genießen wir einen herrlichen Blick auf das Ziel unserer Wanderung: die Stadt und den Hafen von Garachico.

En un principio, tras su rescate, se comunicó que la causa del naufragio, en el que perdieron la vida siete compañeros de Velasco, fue una tormenta. Sin embargo, la historia que este contó al joven García Márquez era bien diferente.

However, Luis Alejandro Velasco was not just any ordinary sailor: he was a member of the Colombian navy and at the time of the incident was aboard the destroyer Caldas, a warship. Following his rescue, it was initially reported that a storm had caused the shipwreck in which seven of Velasco’s colleagues died. The version he gave to a young García Márquez was very different, however.

José de Viera y Clavijo is one of the Canary Islands’ most illustrious names and his reputation is owed to his versatility in a wide range of fields including biology, poetry, theology and history. His work extends to over 160 publications in these subjects. Born in 1731 in the old town of Realejo Alto, he later moved with his family to Puerto de la Cruz. He was educated by Dominican monks in the Santo Domingo de Guzmán convent in La Orotava, where he excelled in philosophy, even though he was later to show little interest in this field. He did maintain his interest in literature, however, and indeed was already writing poetry as a boy. Many of his writings had an educational purpose, including To an aerostatic balloon, Astronomy for children and Fixed Airs, among many others. Despite this poetic vein, he is best known as a historian and his News of the General History of the Canary Islands, a book describing the origins and customs of the early inhabitants of the islands, is considered his greatest work.

José de Viera y Clavijo Es una de las personalidades más ilustres de Canarias, que destacó por su polivalencia en diversos campos como la biología, la poesía, la teología y la historia; de hecho, su trabajo abarca más de 160 obras entre las materias mencionadas.

Nació en 1731, en el antiguo municipio del Realejo Alto, aunque posteriormente se trasladaría al Puerto de la Cruz junto a su familia. Se formó con los dominicos en el convento de Santo Domingo de Guzmán de La Orotava, donde despuntó en filosofía, aunque más tarde sería una materia por la que no mostraría tanto interés. Sin embargo, con la literatura sí mantuvo su afición, pues desde niño ya componía sus primeros versos y muchas de sus creaciones se caracterizaban por su finalidad didáctica, como Al globo aerostático, Astronomía para niños y Los aires fijos, entre muchas otras. A pesar de su faceta poética, la de historiador es la más destacada. En ese sentido, Noticias de la historia general de las Islas Canarias, libro en el que se recogen las costumbres de los antiguos habitantes de las Islas y se explora su origen, es considerada su obra magna.

La Victoria, un municipio de puro encanto Ayuntamiento de La Victoria de Acentejo

En el norte de Tenerife, dentro de la comarca de Acentejo, se encuentra el municipio de La Victoria, un enclave que destaca por un gran encanto gastronómico y por la variedad de vinos.

Cuenta en su haber con un destacado patrimonio, como la iglesia de Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, un bien de interés cultural (BIC) en cuya localización se produjo el enfrentamiento entre las tropas castellanas y los guanches, quienes no resistieron el avance de los primeros. Su construcción fue ordenada por Alonso Fernández de Luego y su interior contiene uno de los artesonados más sobresalientes de Canarias, de estilo mudéjar y con gran decorado.

En lo referente al deporte, destaca “la conquista”, uno de los sellos de identidad de este pueblo. Se trata de una carrera con diversos obstáculos que comprende, por lo general, un recorrido de cinco a diez kilómetros.

En definitiva, La Victoria es un destino que merece ser visitado si estás por la zona norte de Tenerife, con múltiples opciones para los amantes de la gastronomía, el patrimonio y el deporte.

Kurz gesagt, La Victoria ist ein Ausflugsziel, das fürwahr einen Besuch wert ist, wenn Sie sich im Norden Teneriffas befinden. Es bietet ein äußerst attraktives Angebot für alle Liebhaber von Gastronomie, Kultur und Sport.
