Letter From The Editor #274 of the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine. For many of us, the Covid threat is mostly in our rear view mirror, thank God, and we’re planning our ride calendar for the warm months and it’s filling up fast. Just take a look at the Full Throttle Cruisin’ Calendar – May 1st jump starts the whole month, and it doesn’t slow down. Our favorite watering holes are starting their bike nights – look at the Weekly Bike Nights starting this month. May 1st is a hot date for drag racing at Darlington, International Female Ride Day celebrations, Play Day Pay Day ride for Autism out of South Main Customs, a bike giveaway at Fort Bragg Harley-Davidson, and a host of benefit rides. Of course, the traditional spring beach bike week kicks off on the 7th with big doings at Beach House Harley-Davidson in Shallotte, so check out their deal on the front cover and page 5. Then you can go play games at The Rat Hole in Myrtle Beach, and check out the night life at Thee Doll House. There will be no shortage of bands and brews at Bubba’s with biker goodies right next door at Fishtails. Not partaking of beach parties til later? The 12th Annual AMCA Southern National Meet at Denton Farmpark on May 14 & 15 is the place to hang out for vintage motorcycle enthusiasts. There is a bunch of poker runs, customer appreciation days, and parties to choose from all over the Carolinas’. Mark your calendars for all the 60th Anniversary celebrations with Cox’s Harley-Davidson of Asheboro. And……Mayhem In Midway will be here before you know it. October 15-16, don’t miss this biker party. This time of year, the Cruisin’ Calendar explodes, which eliminates the need for me to try to list all of the upcoming events on this page. Just turn a few pages to access the largest, most complete, listing of motorcycle events in the Carolinas and beyond, and remember: print is the only media that you can refer to at will. That means that it will always be right where it was when you last saw it. No endless surfing trying to find it again like on electronic media. Take the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine along with you to quickly reference ads for all the “biker friendly” businesses that actively demonstrate that they welcome bikers and want your business. You can also access the entire magazine on line at: FullThrottleMagazine.com. Is that electronic? Yes, but all the information is still available when and where you want it. Print or online, Full Throttle Magazine is your Carolinas’ source for biker related information. Read it. Take it with you. We do it all for you. ou are reading issue

The Wall That Heals 2021 By: Lloyd Luquer
April 8th, seven members of American Legion Post #87 Legion Riders met up for a ride that each of us were touched, proud, appreciative of, and honored to have been involved with. I’m talking about escorting the Wall That Heals from Morehead City to New Bern N.C. Our ride to Morehead City was a fantastic ride and you couldn’t have asked for better weather. Riding in perfect formation, we charged on down the highway for a day we all will remember and forever hold close to our hearts. The Knights of Columbus 1820 FR Kenneth I Parker Assembly and American Legion Post #539 hosted the 26th season of escorting the 3/4 scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial along with a mobile education center. This wall honors not only the 9,087,000 Vietnam Veterans who served but also the names of the 58,279 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice. The wall gives many people who can’t travel to Washington, DC to see, honor and respect the men and women who were not given the proper and deserving welcoming home. The escort staged at an old K-Mart parking lot and quickly filled up as bike after bike continued to roll in, estimated to be approximately 400 in total. Half of the bikes rolled out behind the police escort then followed by the tractor-trailer hauling the wall with the remainder of the bikes following in behind. There were also high dollar sports cars, vintage cars, trucks, jeeps, slingshots that also followed up in the rear. The escort was absolutely amazing. People lined the sides of the highway waving American flags and showing so much American pride. Every rider, no doubt, felt overwhelmed to see the numbers of people who turned out and especially all the young children who so willingly showed their patriotism. The Temple Church hung a huge American flag over one of the overpasses that really stood out and made the ride and the pride that much n
greater. Retired U.S. Marine Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North spoke at the opening ceremony the following day and at the Temple Church as well. It was a great ride and escort and I know the seven Legion Riders from High Point Post #87 were very touched and proud to have participated. So if you ever get the opportunity to escort the Wall That Heals DO IT!! If you would like more information on how to volunteer go to www.TheWallThatHeals.org In closing, I’d like to say Welcome Home Vietnam Veterans.

Bike Night Is Back At The Shark Tank By: Lincoln Infield
pring is in full force, the days are getting longer,
the weather is getting warmer and bike nights are officially back at The Shark Tank in Salisbury, NC. You can usually find a few bikes parked in the parking lot on any given day, but now Tuesday has been designated as bike night. Owned and run by Bobbie Jo and Lacie a mother / daughter team, The Shark Tank is a bar and billiards house just south of “downtown” Salisbury that features a nice big, paved parking lot, 5 pool tables, a huge bar with all your adult beverage options, good lookin’ bartenders, and a semi covered back patio for awesome parties like the bike night kick off on April 6th. DJ Jazz was heading up the party and started cranking out the tunes around 6pm. It was like the pied piper of biker town
Lacie (Center) With Friends Ruth (Left) & Leah (Right)
cause as soon as the tunes hit the air they were met by the sweet notes of motorcycle exhaust as the lot got full and the party got going. The side lot is reserved for bike parking, but there was really no need since 95% of this evening’s patrons came in on two wheels, but it’s always nice to be catered to, right? Lacie was rocking the bar inside slinging drinks and pizzas all night but made sure to make regular runs to patio to be certain that no one got parched. It was a great night to cut loose and it was good to see a lot of my friends from the area that I rarely get to hang out with. The Shark Tank will be a new bike night staple for me. You should totally check them out as well. Tuesday Nights are bike nights, but any night of the week or weekend is a great time to stop by, shoot a game of pool or just sit around and shoot the breeze. They are located at 612 S. Main Street in Salisbury, NC and are open Monday through Saturday 4pm to close. Stop by and check ‘em out, and make sure to tell ‘em Full Throttle Magazine sent ya.

Ride 4 Evan W Honaker
The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine
(L-R) Matt Morgan, Erin Honaker, Kayla Decker, (brother and sisters)Larry Honaker (dad) Melonie Martin (mom) and in front is Noah Atkins (nephew) By Len “3 Wheel” Montgomery
e have all lost loved ones.
And until they lose us, we will continue to lose loved ones. It is always sad and difficult to let go of those we love most. But we honor their memories in the retelling of their exploits and adventures. And that is what happened on the Memorial Run for Evan Honaker on Saturday, March 27, 2021. I arrived at Cox’s Harley-Davidson that morning around 10am. There was already a good size crowd forming. The dealership had sectioned off the front parking area for riders that day to line up and get registered. There were doughnuts, coffee and water, memorial t-shirts and a DJ keeping things upbeat. No sooner had I registered I was spotted by Evan’s mom. Melonie Martin and I had been friends in school, but not seen each other in many, MANY years. Don’t ask how many (there’s no need to embarrass us about our age). But it was so good to see her, though different circumstances would have been preferential. Melonie introduced me to Evan’s dad, Larry “Buc” Honaker and their three other children. They were all thankful for the huge show of love for Evan. But let me take a step back and tell you a bit about why we were all gathered. On Christmas night, 2020, Evan was shot and killed trying to defend his friend who had been stabbed 12 times. The scripture, “Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13 NKJV)
comes to mind. Evan’s mother recounted the event for me as follows. “Evan had gone to a party with a friend who had a confrontation with two brothers. His friend got stabbed 12 times and was left for dead (thankfully he did survive). Evan was trying to defend his friend when one of the two brothers pulled a gun and shot him twice. This happened in Davidson County (2700 block of Friendship Ledford Rd). Evan’s friends picked him up and put him in his car to take him to get medical attention. They made it about a mile down the road before law enforcement stopped them. Someone had called 911. Sadly, Evan died in the backseat of his car, on the side of the road, never making it to the hospital. Seven eyewitnesses all told the same story, that Evan was only trying to protect his friend who had already been stabbed. The brothers were questioned and released, claiming selfdefense.” To date no charges have been filed. Evan was a top-notch auto technician. He loved riding his Harley- Davidson, going mudding on four wheelers, dirt bikes, and Razors (his brother Matt is in a Razor riding group). Of course, the muddier he got; the more Evan loved it. According to Melonie, Evan had a little crooked smile (his signature). She called it his goofy smile. He loved playing pranks on others. In September 2020 his siblings and friends were all terrorized by Evan and the crab he had found on the beach. He chased them all around all night. Continued On Page 20

Tiffany, owner of Burke St Pub, loved Evan because he protected her business as if it were his own. He began working there when he was 22 and he was soon joined by his dad, Larry “Buc” Honaker. Buc was close to Evan. They did lots of things together in addition to working at Burke Street Pub. They would work out together where Evan would push Buc. Of course, it was a chore to keep up with Evan in the weight room. But it was about quality time with his son. When asked what he would miss the most, through teary eyes, Buc said simply. “The way Evan would kiss his cheek and tell him he loved him.” Melonie said she would really miss the secret talks she would have with Evan. He would share things with her that many would never know. He was true to himself. He was a religious young man that always had a cross on him, in his car, in his wallet, around his neck. Evan loved everyone. He treated everyone the same, whether they were a member of a club or the pastor of a church. And he both influenced, and was influenced, by a wide range of people of all ages. Melonie also recalled a time that Evan called to tell her he had done something that day. She braced for the worst. But Evan began relaying the story of how he had stopped for lunch at Bojangles. While eating he had noticed a homeless man who was not eating. After he finished his meal, Evan noticed the man walking away and had dropped one of his gloves. Evan took the opportunity to return the glove, stuffed with whatever cash Evan had on him. He didn’t do it for recognition, he didn’t even let the man know the cash was there. He knew he would find it eventually. I spoke with many people that day from all age brackets that had been impacted by Evan’s love of life, his outgoing personality and his focus on the future. Evan’s childhood friend Zack shared one of his favorite memories. “We walked into a
Walmart to buy eggs to egg somebody’s house. We walk out and look over at Evan and he has a big boy bird chilling on his shoulder. He said, “I’m going to keep this one. His name is Jeffrey.” That bird sat on Evan’s dashboard the whole time.” Tyler Rodriguez also shared. “We all have good memories, but probably one of the best memories I have of Evan, we all went down to the haunted hospital in Statesville (Davis Asylum?). We (Evan and Tyler) were with these two girls. We went inside and Evan had a little wooden baseball bat. We hear this big bang, and we outran the girls. We were out and the girls were screaming at the top of their lungs. Evan had scared the shit out of us.” Leaving out from Cox’s Harley-Davidson in Asheboro with Evan’s brother Matt leading the run riding Evan’s bike, everyone headed to C&S Customs in Lexington with nearly 100 in the entourage on bikes and in cars and trucks. The parking area filled up quickly and everyone again began to share memories of Evan. The next stop was Clemmons Motorcycle in Winston-Salem. Melonie rode on the back with Matt on this leg of the run, her first time on Evan’s bike. Just as the riders pulled in, the rain began to sprinkle. The group decided to make a mad dash to Baggerz Saloon to wait out the storm. We didn’t make it far before the bottom fell out! Everyone got soaked. I recall one of the female riders, Meagan, taking off her boots and socks wringing them out, and while putting them back on saying, “Putting wet socks back on SUCKS!” You are so right, Meagan!! The next stop was scheduled to be Honda of WinstonSalem. But due to the rain delay, and the number of folks who decided to swing by for dry clothes before the final stop, we didn’t make it by there. But I’m sure the family would like them to know they appreciate the hospitality that was offered for the run. The run ended in Advance where it seemed an entire new group was gathered to honor Evan. There was food, a live music courtesy of “Hawthorne Curve” (a really great local band), raffles and a room full of love. Though I never met Evan personally, I left knowing he was loved by so many. His family plans to make this Memorial Run and annual event. I know they would appreciate your support in honoring the Evan’s memory. If you would like to do something to help now with expenses, or with the annual memorial run, you can reach out to Melonie Martin – Meloniejane2011@yahoo.com, Larry “Buc” Honaker – Larry. honaker@hotmail.com or Matt Morgan – mattmancbr1@ gmail.com.

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine No, It’s Not A Motorcycle, But It’s A Lot Of Fun
22
By: Lincoln Infield ’m all the time asking Monty Hendrix of Indian of Greensboro to put me on the latest greatest Indian models when they hit the show room, and he always comes through. I’ve ridden everything Indian Motorcycles has come out with other than the newly redesigned 2021 Indian Chief. This time when I called for the hook up, Monty told me he had something else in mind. “How about a ride in all new, second generation 2021 Polaris Slingshot”, he said. The Slingshot, hmmm, I dunno man. I’m a motorcycle guy all the way, but why not try something new, right? Monty said he wanted to get a chance to say that the Polaris Slingshot was NOT a motorcycle and wasn’t trying to be a motorcycle, but it can be a lot of fun to drive. So, we set a date and I got down to researching the Slingshot, so that I knew what I was looking for when I got in the cockpit. The numbers on the Slingshot are no joke and I was almost instantly looking forward to this demo ride. Monty never does anything halfway, so he had a Slingshot R lined up for me, which is the top of the line Slingshot for the demo. Right out of the box, the Slingshot R features Polaris’ 203 HP Prostar 2.0L 4 cylinder engine, weighs just under 1,700 lbs. and goes 0-60mph in 4.9 seconds. Honestly, do you need anything more than that to get the hair standing up on your arms? I figured that was all I needed to know, and they would fill me in with the particulars when I got down to Indian Motorcycles Greensboro. After Essa got my info and set me up with the paperwork, Monty and Morgan gave me the tutorial on the Slingshot. These guys really know their stuff and no questions went unanswered. One of the advantages of the Slingshot that Monty was quick to point out was the side by side seating. Making note that you wouldn’t ask your buddy to ride on the back of your motorcycle
Polaris Slingshot Test Ride Drive with you, but you can totally take them for a spin in the awesome side by side bucket seats. It’s a solid point, for sure. The Slingshot features a Proximity Key with Keyless pushbutton start that brings the engine and the instrument panel to life. Digital gauges in front of the comfy leather wrapped steering wheel for speed, rpm and other normal readouts is accompanied by a 7” Ride Command Display that features multi-touch, Apple CarPlay®, Navigation System and backup camera and most importantly, Bluetooth connectivity. Once the engine was running, I was hooking the blue tooth up to my phone so I can listen to MY tunes while I was cruising’ around. The Slingshot R comes in both Manual and “AutoDrive” configurations, Slingshot I was demoing was an “AutoDrive”. Which is not quite an automatic transmission, it’s a Hydraulically Actuated Automated Manual (AutoDrive) 5 Speed Synchromesh w/ Reverse. Basically, it will shift for you, but Polaris equipped it with paddle shifters on the steering wheel as well, so you can take control of the transmission. I pushed the “D” drive button and gave it some gas. I was told to take it easy and go around the block a few times so I could get used to it before I cut it loose. The Slingshot accelerated smoothly and although it will shift for you, ran much smoother when I used the paddle shifters to run through the transmission myself. I cruised around downtown Greensboro for a few minutes, it was a beautiful day, and the Slingshot got the attention of many of the diners that were enjoying their lunch al fresco. Well, it was either the Slingshot or its incredibly loud sound system but either way, they were lookin! I took to the highway once I had the controls down so I could open it up a little and see what she could do. The open air cockpit puts

you 5 inches off the ground, but the independent, double wishbone suspension really handles all the bumps and dips well. I ran up through the gears and was quickly out in front of the pack. while I didn’t get up to the 125 mph the specs say the Slingshot is “limited” to, it was almost like the rest of the traffic didn’t know we were racing. The seating was comfortable, there was plenty of foot room and the stereo was loud enough to hear at triple digit speed. I exited the highway and went for some curvy county roads. Again, the Slingshot handled everything I threw at it. It has a very comfortable drift feeling when in the curves, unlike the pull you feel in other vehicles. Man, I was having too much fun with this thing! It was time to get down to business and find a nice place to take some photos with the Slingshot. This led me to my next discovery. If you park the slingshot, be prepared to talk to people about it. Wherever I parked the Slingshot drew a crowd of spectators. What do you expect? this thing is pretty bad ass looking. The front end design is like the next generation bat mobile. The back end comes to a point and features an open single rear wheel with a belt drive running a 305 / 30R20 tire. the particular model I was driving was grey and stealth blue with blue metal flake in the grey paint. The sun was out and was really bringing the metal flake out. I returned the Slingshot to Indian of Greensboro and gave my report to Monty. Honestly the only thing I didn’t like about the Slingshot was that although the seats were very comfortable, it was a hot day, and my back got sweaty. The good news
23
is, that Polaris offers an air condition / heated seat upgrade that should take care of that. Oh well, I guess I have no complaints at all! My professional opinion is that you really need to go to Indian of Greensboro and test drive a Slingshot. Will it replace your motorcycle? Absolutely not, but it will be an awesome addition to your garage. I could totally see myself taking my wife out for a spin and enjoying the hell out of it. I will have to go back to get a shot at riding the 2021 Indian Chief, and believe me, you will see an article on it soon!

11TH Annual CBA Central District Poker Run By: Lincoln Infield
10th was the date set for the 11th Annual CBA Central District Spoker Run. They call it the Spoker Run since there are multiple starting points around the Piedmont area that all converge on one ending point for the party, like the spokes of a wheel. Each year a different chapter of the NC Concerned Bikers Association Central District hosts the end party of the Spoker Run, this year it was Chatham County’s turn and the ride ended at American Legion Post 305 in Snow Camp, NC. The weather forecast was calling for rain just about all day, but all week long the rain percentages and time had been all over the place. I was determined that I was going on this ride and well, if I got wet, then so be it! The sky was a bit threatening at times and I know that the Charlotte chapter ran through a little rain, but in Snow Camp, it was a beautiful day and the different chapters arrived at the American Legion, ready to have a good time. The chow line was a hit with hot dogs with the fixin’s, potatoes, cookies and more. Once everyone had a bite to eat, we did what bikers do best; lean on bikes and shoot the shit. There was a little bit of ribbing, some tall tales, and a bunch of jokes. Inside the Legion, Lance Key was strumming the guitar and keeping everyone’s toes tapping. After a bit, Mike Morris called everyone inside to go over the day’s winners. Each chapter of the CBA that participated in the Spoker Run had a winning hand for their chapter and plaque for the winner. Liz Rocafuerte from Alamance County, Pamela L. from Chatham County, Sue Everhardt from Davidson County. and Josh Needham from the Charlotte chapter all won their respective best hand plaques. The Charlotte chapter had an extra $100 thrown in on their best hand as well! The Charlotte chapter got the prize for the most participation as well. Now check this out, everyone that played a poker hand pril
got a big red ticket for the $500 grand prize. It didn’t matter if you pulled a bunch of crappy cards, like I did, you still had a shot at the cash! The ticket was pulled, the numbers called and there was a grunt from everyone who didn’t have that winning ticket. Josh Needham, however, was wearing a big grin and his day’s winnings went up to $600, congrats Josh! The 50/50 ticket was pulled next, and Bob Loftus walked off with $110 bucks! The cash was all handed out, but there was a huge Chinese raffle going on as well. You could win a handful of knives, mini crossbow, ammunition, leather goods and a whole lot more. I had my eye on that pile of knives, but it just wasn’t my day. The day was getting on and the weather map showed that a line of storms was moving in, so everyone said their good byes and set off on their way home. I enjoyed the beautiful countryside for a dry 45 mile ride home. It was the crown on a great day, one of those days that was a gamble on the weather and the feeling that comes along with knowledge that we won this bet. Big thanks to the Chatham County Chapter of the Concerned Bikers Association for hosting this year’s event.

Hands Free Bill In North Carolina Senate
North Carolina motorcyclists have partnered with other highway safety organizations in an attempt to pass legislation that would strengthen North Carolina’s distracted driving laws. North Carolina’s current law is out of date as it only addresses texting while driving and ignores the other functions of modern cell phones, as well as the many other things that can take a driver’s attention away from the road. We all know how dangerous a distracted driver can be, and as motorcyclists we suffer greater consequences when motor vehicle operators fail to keep their attention on the road. The Hands Free NC Bill (Senate Bill 20) has previously passed in the North Carolina House but has yet to be brought to a vote in the North Carolina Senate. This year it was introduced in the Senate, and we need citizen support to continue it on the path towards becoming the law in North Carolina. Please consider sending an email to your State Senator to voice your support for bill S20, “Hands Free NC”; and please encourage the other riders in your community to do the same. This bill needs citizen support to continue or the past three years
moving through the Senate. When you send your email please point out that current law only prohibits texting while driving and ignores the other ways that a driver can become distracted, such as reading emails, looking at social media, and checking the weather, just to name a few. If you have any questions about who your local Representative or Senator is you may locate your legislator using the link: NCLeg.gov/FindYourLegislators If you would like to know more about the bill please feel free to contact me. If you would like to read the full text of the bill: www.NCLeg.gov/Sessions/2021/Bills/Senate/PDF/S20v1.pdf As always, if you have any questions about this bill or any other legislation or laws that affect North Carolina motorcyclists please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Birthday Run For Kilah
By: Wally Wersching
Saturday April 3rd. I looked at the Carolinas Full Throttle Cruisin’Calendar and saw that there was to be a birthday run for Kilah. I also went to the Guardians of the Children (GOC) – Gastonia Chapter Facebook page, to see the flyer for the ride. I remembered the name “Kilah” from the past. I realized that I went to a ride for her in 2017. It was sad then but now when she would have been 12 years old, it is sadder still. On May 16th, 2012, Kilah was a healthy, happy, energetic 3 year old when she was left alone with her stepfather while her mom, Kirbi, was at work. He beat her so brutally that she was not expected to live. According to the law, he would only get a light prison sentence when convicted. This situation called for more severe punishments for child abusers. Although Kilah survived for 22 months after her abuse, she passed away on March 13, 2014. The Kilah Davenport Foundation was started in November 2012 to help learn more about child abuse, and share information about Kilah’s journey. It was formed to encourage activities meant to prevent child abuse. With a lot of support, “Kilah’s Law” was signed into law by the North Carolina Governor in 2014. The law increases the penalty, and also requires that there be a permanent record of child abuse in the defendant’s criminal history. Later in 2014, President Obama signed “Kilah’s Law”, and it became a national law. The meeting place was the Bearded Buffalo at 16 North Main Street in Belmont, NC. I’m not familiar with Belmont so I went on-line to get directions. At about 9:30am, I was heading east on Rte. 74. I merged into I-85, and after a few miles, I exited at exit 26. I followed the signs to stay on Rte. 7 going into and through Belmont. Rte. 7 is Main Street. I was followed by a couple motorcyclists when I was on Rte. 7. I knew they were going to the Bearded Buffalo, so I watched them. was looking for something to do on
They turned off, and then I turned at the next street, and went back. The parking lot was on the left. There were a few bikes in the lot when I arrived at 10:20am. I walked around greeting old friends and making new ones too. I met and talked with “Slider” the president of the GOC Chapter. I liked him right away when he said that when he was looking to replace his old bike, he was looking for a Victory but none of the Victory owners were selling any. He had to settle for a Harley. That is true, Victory owners are keeping their bikes because they are great bikes, and no more are being made. As we were talking, Kirbi came up. She remembered me from the 2017 event. We talked for a few minutes. As we were talking, a group of bikers rode in – mostly GOC members. They all came up and gave Kirbi a hug. One of the men was “Cuzz”. Before he was through, he either gave you a meaningful handshake or a hug. I got a hug. The children flocked around him. I took a couple pictures of him with the kids. As it was getting close to the time to leave, one of the GOC men called for all the “Road Guards” to get together for a brief meeting. They talked about the route, and how to handle the crossroads. They would be riding mostly on back roads to a restaurant in the Lake Wylie area. Then after lunch, they all would head to the Winner’s Circle bar in Gastonia where there would be a celebration by releasing balloons for Kilah. At about 11:30, everybody gathered around for a group photo. Then the club chaplain, ”Pappy”, said a prayer to protect the riders during the ride. Another GOC member explained the hand signals again so that there would be no surprises during the ride. A run that large takes a lot of coordination. They have done it before many times, so they had the experience to pull it off. After the briefing, everybody went to their bikes to get ready for the ride. There was a very loud roar as they started their bikes. They started to pull out onto the side street next to the lot. Luckily, the street wasn’t heavily traveled so there wasn’t much traffic. I took a few pictures as they left. I headed home. On the way, I stopped at the Shelby Showmars to pick up a delicious and filling lunch. I had things to do around the house later in the day. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning.

Mike’s 3RD & 4TH Annual Cowboy Chili Challenge Story and photos by Alan Dockery he first Saturday of spring blessed us with Carolina Blue skies at Sons of the South Saloon, Longview, NC, for Mike’s 3rd and 4th Annual Cowboy Chili Challenge. It was a great day to ride over to the bar, hang out and talk with old friends, fuss about the past year, and sample chili. That Bitch Rona shut us down in 2020 just a few days before the 3rd Annual Chili Challenge. It took me a month to eat all the beans I had stocked up. But Mike Dyson makes things happen and he was ready for cooks and eaters this year to get back to the fire pits. Mike owns The Wizard Saloon, the oldest real biker bar in Hickory and told me he wanted to do something like this at SOS for years. He throws cool outside parties at The Wizard during the Summer. But the Cowboy Chili Challenge was a little different. Entrants had to cook outside over a wood fire. Mike had some old big truck rims welded up that made great cookers. This was my first time cooking in the Cowboy Chili Challenge. And it IS a challenge getting the fire right and cooking outside. Making a batch of chili ready in just a couple hours. But my Florida Swamp Chili turned out just fine. Dark and mysterious. Next year I think I’ll make some Pink Pig Chili. I heard someone say, “It’s more about the comradery than the competition.” That was true, all day I was greeted by biker buddies that I hadn’t seen in months. Carl McIntosh, Longview, won the Peoples’ Choice. Greg Sides, Lenoir, won Overall Best Chili.
Mike said, “The weather was a beautiful spring day. Thanks to the folks who came to cook and all those who came for chili and a good time with friends. We raised money for the Conover School. Glad to see folks are getting out and back to having a good time in 2021.” Next year Mike is going to make the Cowboy Chili Challenge even bigger and better. There will be vendors in the parking lot with things bikers need for riding season. He is going to have awards for Cornbread and a Chili Cornbread Combo. More award categories may be added. Shucks, this summer I’m learning how to cook desserts in one of my cast iron pots. Looked to me like the folks enjoyed the Cowboy Chili Challenge. Y’all oughta come on down and serve up your best next time Mike hauls out the cookers and fire wood.

Tilley H-D Spring Open House Story by Adeline Cannone Photos by Alan Dockery After being crippled by COVID for over a year, and with vaccinations on the rise, many of us were thrilled to get out and ride on a beautiful day. And it was the Tilley Harley-Davidson Spring Opener that drew local bikers to Statesville, NC, to stop in and say hello. Free hot dogs and ice cold beer didn’t hurt, either. Bikers like to hang out at the Harley Shop with free food and beer. Famous NASCAR drivers Bobby and Donnie Allison were in the showroom signing autographs and posing for photographs. Randy from Cobra Exhaust was in the service department to give a quick seminar on their latest head pipe and muffler offerings. Also in the lot, Twisted Covenant MSC was serving up Free Pork Chop sandwiches for the price of a gun raffle ticket. In addition to sharing a fun time with the local biking community, Tilley H-D had an even loftier goal for the day. They rolled their opener into a fundraiser for one of their own. Frankie (in parts) is currently facing a family crisis, his wife diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, and the biker community dug deep. Donations were collected throughout the day and our customers were generous. Terry LeVan even stuck his head in the ice cold beer barrel to earn some cash to put in the bucket. Derek Tilley offered 10% of the day’s profits from sales for the day as well. In just a couple hours we collected a whopping $1,526 for Frankie’s family. We appreciate everyone who contributed to this success. It’s amazing what we can do when we work together. Tilley Harley-Davidson is a special kind of place. Still a family owned and operated dealership. Don and Robinette Tilley became the Statesville Harley dealer in 1972. There were folks riding into the parking lot whose dads, papas, uncles, brothers, mothers and friends bought their motorcycles from Don Tilley. For years, he was the man taking care of NASCAR drivers and team members when they wanted new or fast Harleys. Local bikers grew up reading about Don as an Ameri-
can Hero builder and tuner of racing motorcycles that whipped the best in the world. Dirt, pavement, curves, hills, straight line, it didn’t matter. Don’s bikes and riders won. Sadly, the world lost Don several years ago and Robinette more recently. But the family still runs Tilley Harley-Davidson and that’s part of what keeps bikers coming here. They know the folks who work at Tilley’s. Tilley H-D is gearing up for the season, and has some cool events in the works. Save the date for Memorial Day Weekend, May 29 and 30, when we host Rolling Thunder XXXIII Nationwide Ride for Freedom. It’s a two day event and everyone is welcome to attend! The always popular Sunday Bash is scheduled for July 18th. Local recording artist Rockie Lynn will be performing. Bring your tissues because Rockie’s songs about military service members, police and fire fighters and just good ole local bikers might bring a tear to your eyes.

What Are You Thankful For? Thankful for? Have you really thought about it? We may take it for granted when we get up of a morning and put our clothes on, or even flip a switch and the lights come on. We take our warm home for granted and the food we eat. There are a lot of good people that are homeless. Some are homeless because they want to be, some because of bad choices, but whatever the situation is, we all must remember that we are all God’s children and we must help each other. Whether we live in a nice fancy house, in our car, or the woods, we all have something to be thankful for. I’m thankful for my home, family and friends. I’m thankful the Lord wakes me up every morning to go and do the things I want to do. Do you remember the story of Lazarus and the rich man? The rich man passed Lazarus every day, and never offered him any help or food. After death, it seems the position of Lazarus and rich man changed. When Lazarus died he went to be in Paradise and the rich man went to Hell. The rich man was in torment and in thirst amidst the flames of fire. Proverbs 14: 31 Whoever oppresses a poor man insults his Maker, but he who is generous to the needy honors Him. Deuteronomy 15: 11. For there will never cease to be poor in the land, Therefore I command you, You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and the poor, in your hat are you really
land. We never know when we might hit hard times and need help ourselves. We all just need to put our trust in the Lord. Philippines 4: 9 And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. If the Lord lays someone on your heart to help, you need to help that person. I’m not saying everyone you see standing on the street corner needs help or they are just trying to pull one over on you. Just stop and pray and ask the Lord if you’re supposed to help them and He will let you know.

8TH Annual CCIB Bike & Car Show By: Wally Wersching was looking for something
to do last Saturday, and located an event close by in Boiling Springs, NC. The Cleveland County Independent Bikers (CCIB) were going to hold their 8th Annual Bike and Car Show in the Western Dynasty lot on Main Street in Boiling Springs on Saturday March 20th. They were going to have eight classes for bikes, and a “Top Ten” and “Best of Show” for the four wheeled cars and trucks. They were even going to have a class for kids – model cars and diecast. Two hot dogs, chips, and a drink were on sale for $6.00. All the proceeds from the hot dog sales and the $20.00 registration went to the Cleveland–Rutherford County Kidney Association. I checked the weather, and it was going to be sunny with temps in the low 50’s but with a strong swirling wind. After talking with Cindy, she decided not to go – too chilly to stand outside for any length of time. I would stop and get lunch on the way home, so I drove the El Camino instead of riding “Miss Vickie”. I parked in the grassy field behind the main parking lot and walked to the event. As I walked around the building, I could see the many bikes in the show. One young man was wiping the chrome on his bike. Chrome looks good when it is clean and it’s hard to keep clean. I had a stack of Carolinas’ Full Throttle magazines for the registration table to give to the participants. Next to the registration table, I met “Grumpy” and Mike Gettys from Full Throttle Biker Church. Mike hammed it up when I took his picture – he held up a copy of Full Throttle. We all had a very pleasant conversation about motorcycles and such. I’ve known “Grumpy” and Mike for many years, but we only meet at events like this one.
“Radar” came up for a conversation. He was all bundled up trying to stay warm in the wind. We talked for a while about when we worked together years ago. It was interesting. We talked about many of the people we worked with at the time. I walked over to talk with “Snake”. He was cooking the hot dogs. I commented that he at least was staying warm cooking on the grill, but the wind kept shifting so he was chilly, too. Then I saw Amy (AKA Legs) and talked with her for a while. She works with my daughter-in-law at the Post Office. I’ll always remember her because she was in the bridal party with me, and we walked down the aisle together. I walked over to the Cleveland County Concerned Bikers Association (CBA) tent and talked with the president of the local chapter: Halley. I’ve been to some of their events, and always had a great time. It’s a great organization for bikers. I decided to walk around and look at the cars and trucks at the event. I like the old and unusual. The first one to catch my eye was a very unique pick-up truck. It was built like a “Rat
www.
FullThrottleMagazine.com
Rod” but had a Cummings Turbo Diesel engine under the long hood, a pair of huge truck tires in the rear while flying a tattered American flag along with a Trump “Make America Great Again” flag. After taking a few pictures of the old truck, I continued walking down the line of cars and trucks in the show. Under the hoods of the newer ones were high horsepower V8’s with overhead cams and fuel injection. Then I came upon an old friend – a 1950 Ford with a flathead V8 under its hood. I talked with the owner who had the car for many years. We talked about “Flathead Fords” in general, and how great they were in their day. I told him about owning a 1946 Ford pick-up with a flathead V8 and a Duntov cam, and how it roared when I hit the gas. It was fun at the time! I continued to walk around. In the other corner were a couple old Fords – a 1924 Model “T” Canopy Express and a 1931 Model “A” pick-up. The Model “T” was the car that built America’s roads. Before the Model T was made, there were only horse & wagon paths - no paved roads. There can be a lot of history at a car show. On my way back to the motorcycles, I bumped into “Pegleg”. I asked him why he wasn’t cooking. He said that he don’t do hot dogs – only soup and real creative cooking. You can’t do much with a hot dog. I headed home after stopping to pick up lunch. It was a great way to spend a Saturday morning with friends. I will definitely do it again next year.

The 49TH Annual Charlotte CBA Swap Meet & Bike Show By: Lincoln Infield he Charlotte CBA Swap Meet and Bike Show is a good ol’ traditional biker event. Whether you are looking for parts for your current build or looking for a good time, you’ll find it there. This is the 49th Annual meet and Rick Nail has been the coordinator of this event since it began, and he and his crew have this event runnin’ smooth. This is one of those events that we look forward to every year, there is something about sifting through those tables and tubs of parts and the folks that lug em out to the events, it’s just a good time, every time. The weather for Saturday was gonna be warm and sunny, with a lingering chance of rain in the afternoon. We knew there was gonna be a huge crowd, so Maggie and I got in and set up the Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine canopy Friday night to make Saturday morning easier on us and brought Dad’s 1973 Servi-Car to put in the bike show. When we got to the fairgrounds on Saturday morning, it was already packed. It was great to see all our friends out milling around, some we see every other week, others we only see at this event. The outside loop of the fairgrounds holds most of the parts vendors. We were set up beside our friends Kristin and Zach of The Rebel Sprit and next to them was Rob Whitlow of Evil Twins Motorcycle Parts. Honestly, we could have hung out at our set up all day and had a hell of a time. We had brought along a ’74 Harley-Davidson X90 Shortster to play around with. It was Ray Price’s Pit Bike in its former life and everyone that walked by wanted to take a gander at it. Jim Blair of Jim’s Motor Service in High Point, NC helps us keep
it in tip top shape. Most folks stopped to tell me that they had had a Shortster just like it when they were younger. It sure is a cool bike and I don’t blame ‘em for checking it out, I even had a few unsuccessfully offer to buy it. While we were standing around, we ran into a ton of friends including Grant Eagle who used to be our Concord sales rep, Angelo Greco from the old Tank Town Tavern, Shoprag from Custom Dynamics and a ton of others. Jeremy Stowers and his wife Sondra were hanging out at the TRS tent along with Mike Banks from Stay Humble Performance. I always make a point of going to see Luke Heafner’s set up, he always has some quality parts and a cool chopper to check out. I even ran into a Tom of Two Wheel Accessories all the way from Rocky Mount, NC. We finally broke away from the tent to look around at what folks were selling. There were tables, tarps and tubs all full of old and new parts, engines, rollers, and everything else

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine to see who could take down the Hoffzilla. Shannon Rights, McGrath events coordinator, put in the order and Tyler and I took on the Hoffzilla. The sandwhich that came out of the kitchen had 9 porkchops on it and all the fixins, it was intimidating for sure. Now, a man has to admit when he’s been defeated and Tyler definitely won The People Vs. Hoffvilla even if neither of us finished the sandwich, (that was quite a bit bigger than the advertised challenge sandwich). The photo doesn’t look like much, but my man Tyler ate over half that monster sandwich. Next up was the Pinup Contest with $500 in cash prizes up for grabs. The band was rocking hard and finished their set to let the four lovely ladies and two young ladies took up the challenge promote strength and beauty while keeping it classy. These ladies all took turns strutting the stage and had to tell the crowd what they liked most about the Pinup Culture. The contest was judged by official looking folks and the two young ladies both won $20 a piece from 740 Auto and in the ladies class, Heidi won first prize and $250, Genevia came in second and was awarded $150 and Maggie took home 3rd place and $100! Congrats to those hot, classy ladies! Next up was the beard contest that was sponsored by Gabby’s Beard Products. There were eight shaggy looking dudes up on the stage (including myself) that weren’t near as purdy to look at as the Pinup Girls. Amy Harvell of the CBA was just getting ready to announce the winner when that pesky chance of a storm started to arrive at the fairground. It was some real Wizard of Oz storm and unfortunately the wind messed up a whole bunch of pop up tents and the following rain cleared out the event. It was a shame cause it was a huge crowd in atten-
imaginable. One guy just down from us was selling a custom ironhead rolling chassis it was a little crusty and had the remains of a cool custom paint job still on it. It came with a ton of parts to go with it for only $300! it was a tempting offer that both Zach and I considered taking home. I couldn’t pull the trigger on it, but I noticed not to long afterwards that someone had taken the bait! I hope I see that bike all put together sometime in the near future. It was easily the biggest crowd I had seen out there in a few years and it was a truly awesome day to be out and about. We made our way to the top of the loop to visit with the Karney Law Firm, Attorney Sean Clayton was on hand enjoying the day along with two gorgeous Karney girls that were passing out swag and posing for photos. Bob wasn’t able to be there, but they were debuting their new 7 foot tall Bulldog mascot blowup and everyone wanted to get a photo with it. We stopped by Bad Ass Cigars tent to talk to William and his wife, they are always slinging big sticks and are good for a chat. Near the main gate it’s a must to stop off and talk to Rick and Myra Nail. As previously mentioned, Rick has been at the helm of this event and a CBA member for near 50 years, not only that, but they are some real cool folks and good friends of the family. It was getting close to 1pm and time for our first event of the day. Now, it wasn’t an official event of the Swap Meet but more like a side show. Hoff’s Grill, the on premises food vendor, was offering a Hoffzilla Pork Chop Sandwich Challenge. You have 45 minutes to eat a 6.5lb, all the way, pork chop sandwich and some fries. By the looks of the promo photo, I figured I had a chance of pulling this off, so, I challenged McGrath Law Firm Attorney, Tyler Stiles L-R: Pinup Contests 2nd Place Genevia, 1st Place Heidi & 3rd Place Maggie

dance that afternoon. We hung out in side one of the buildings on premise that houses some more vendors. While we waited out the rain, I got a chance to hang out with Chuck and Clyde of STE Powersports, Kary Blaylock of Pandemonium Performance and Hector from Cartel Baggers. There were a ton of other vendors in the building still and some good shopping to be had. We even swung over to the Bike Show building and checked out some sweet show bikes. The bike show features classes from Antique to Exotic and all points in between the big cash goes to the people choice winners and you could take home $500 just for parking your bike in the show. The bike show judging is on Sunday afternoon, so we came back down to continue the party. The last minute votes were being tallied by the dedicated bike show committee and all the bike show participants were hanging out waiting on the results. There were a lot of good looking motorcycles in the show and once again, I was glad I didn’t have to judge them! Trophies were presented to 1st and 2nd place winners in each
class, and they saved the People’s Choice Cash Awards till last. Jerry Kepley took home 3rd place and a wad of cash with his red radical chopper, Zach Shipwash was awarded 2nd place and $300 for the Rebel Spirit Honda CB750 Chopper, Boogie Nights. They also took home some cash for best display. Top honors and $500 cash went to Jeremy Novak for a really killer blacked out Softail. It was clean, low, and dark with only the engine chromed out. It was a great looking bike and not surprising that it got the peoples votes. The bike show awards ended the 49th Annual Spring CBA Swap Meet and Bike Show. If you didn’t make it out, no worries, Rick Nail and the Charlotte CBA will be back in the Fall at the Rowan County Fairgrounds for the Fall CBA Swap Meet and Bike Show. Come out and
have a great time at an old school biker party. At the very least come out and support the CBA. These folks are some the ones who go to bat for your rights as a biker. There are chapters all over North Carolina that hold regular meetings and work on the topics that threaten our lifestyle and lives. They are working on topics like stricter penalties for people who blow grass clippings in the road, updating the verbiage on distracted drivers on their phones and the helmet law. Everyone has a busy schedule, but it’s worth your time to protect our way of life. CBA members have joined forces to put an end to discriminatory legislation, to educate and to protect the freedom and safety of all, both riders and non-riders alike. We do this not only to benefit us, but also to promote a better image of motorcyclists in general. Even if you don’t have time to go to meetings, you can help out by becoming a member. It’s only $20 per year and comes with a CBA patch and a free death/ dismemberment insurance policy. Plus, those funds and membership numbers help them fight the good fight. You can sign up online at cba-abatenc.org or in person at any CBA meet, like the Fall Swap Meet in November!

RIP Mark “Stretch” Carlyle Mark A. Carlyle, “Stretch” passed away on April 6, 2021. He resided in Statesville, NC with his wife, Alice. Mark’s gathering for family and friends was on Monday, April 12th at the American Legion Hall at 5661 Hovis Road in Charlotte, NC. For those who would join in on Mark’s last ride here on earth, he was escorted to the Good Samaritan Funeral Home in Denver, NC. Motorcycles led and cars followed. Mark is survived by his wife, Alice, son Chase (Jessica), mother, Glenda, brother, Tom (Julie), sister, Lisa, step children, numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and two great grandchildren, Jimmy, Sissy and all of our Westside family. Mark was an ad sales rep and reporter for Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine for several years, beginning back in 2013. He was an asset for the magazine until he and Alice went on the road as truck drivers full time and had to discontinue his sales efforts in 2019. Mark was always a pleasure to be around; he had a funny sense of humor and a personality
that endeared him to everyone he came in contact with. We always had a good time together at the Full Throttle Fear Of February Party, Tank Town Tavern Spring Bashes and anywhere else we were able to hang out. We were shocked and saddened at the news of his passing.

Rode To Nowhere - Making Circles In The Triad
By: Lincoln Infield
ost weekends there are more events
listed in the Cruisin’ Calendar than I can get to. They all look like a good time, but there is so much territory in the Carolinas and just not enough time! This particular weekend, there were three such events that were pretty close together, so I figured I’d give ‘em a go. I started early and headed out to Riding High Harley-Davidson in High Point, NC. They have a free Saturday morning ride most weekends. They just pick a destination, set a time and ride. Kinda refreshing, eh? This Saturday they were heading down to Lexington. Twenty or so riders gathered and set off around 11am just in time for me to make it to my next stop in Winston-Salem. Staging at the Marketplace Mall, Wayne and Vandee Pinnix were putting on their 4th Annual Biker Trash Nation Motorcycle Awareness Ride. They always gather a big group for this free ride that is aimed at making a lot of noise and letting the cagers
know that the weather is turning warmer and there will be a lot more motorcycles on the road. I got a little hung up on my way over there but made it just in time to shoot some photos of the group leaving. Good news was that their first stop was Smokin’ Harley-Davidson in Winston-Salem and that is where I was heading next, so I knew I would catch up with ‘em! Smokin’ had a parking lot swap meet going on, and I’m a sucker for swap meets, so I was gonna check it out. When I got to Smokin’ the parking lot was packed. They had vendors lined up under the overhang of the dealership with new and old parts and other odds and ends. I did a little shoppin’ and a lot of hangin out with my friends. When the crowd died down a little it was time to wander up the hill from Smokin’ H-D to Xtreme Wings N Things to grab a bite to eat. Xtreme was just gearing up for a big night with live music by Matt Dylan and the Honky Tonk Outlaws. I grabbed a bar stool and threw
down some wings, and man, they really hit the spot. The day was getting on, but I had one more stop in mind. I rode by the house and picked up Maggie and headed to Kernersville to Ink Lab Tattoo. Both of us were overdue for some Ink and the guys at Ink Lab really know how to lay it down. Ink Lab Tattoo is a cool house studio, with plenty of flash and talented artists to hook you up. Couple hours later, we had some new ink, had a bunch of laughs and it was time to head home. These are the days we work for all week long and when the weekend hits, it’s time to put some miles on and get out in the sunshine for a little bit. Huge thanks to Riding’ High Harley-Davidson, BTN, Smokin’ Harley-Davidson, Xtreme Wings N Things and Ink Lab Tattoo for the hospitality. Now we just gotta get through another couple days and we will get out there and do it again. Pick some destinations outta the Cruisin’ Calendar or any of the biker friendly businesses in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and make a day of it. You can ride to nowhere, too. We will see ya out there!

By: Chi
Biker Church held its 9th Annual NC Sandhills Bike Blessing on Saturday, April 3, 2021. They are located at, 455 Rock Hill Road in Fayetteville, NC. Senior Pastor, JD Tew & Associate Pastor, Bill Johnson were praying and blessing bikes the whole day. They delivered a message and the community showed up in record numbers. Each person, all eager for the blessing as well as the ride. The bike blessing starts with the pastor(s) and believers joining hands and encircling the bike. The prayers of protection are called by faith. It is truly and experience that is difficult to put into words; the presence of the living God called to anoint the biker and their travels. The glory of heaven, Christ our Redeemer, to be our hedge of protection! The blessings were numerous. Bragg Harley-Davidson started the month off with an awesome celebration for Easter. The celebrations continued with more rides and more grilling. Everyone was excited and looking forward to riding it out before the egg hunts, which were to follow. The kids and adults alike enjoyed the various activities of the entire day. Everyone is so excited to be on their bikes getting their wind therapy. The fun, celebrations and cookouts continued throughout the entire month of April. The Buffalo Soldiers held their 11th Annual Pony Express Charity Ride on April 10th. The bikes were out, and the charity was underway. There was a great turn out for support of the event. Fort Bragg HarleyDavidson takes pride in being “the venue” for the community charity events. Then on April 17th there was a cookout which turned out to be a destination ride for members of Rare Breed. The crowd was amazing, the grill was in full effect. There were games, contests and winners. The grill, bikes, vendors and Fort Bragg HD hospitality made it a grand day of community support and an excellent day for a cookout! Remember, there’s always a party at Fort Bragg Harley ort

The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine In 1955, Kuhn retired from racing to focus on his career as a motorcycle patrol officer for the California Highway Patrol, a position he held until 1979. In his nine-year span of racing, Kuhn became one of the country’s best-known off-road racers. Kuhn was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame in 2003.
AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Del Kuhn Passes
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Del Kuhn, one of the nation’s top off-road racers in the 1940s and ’50s, passed away peacefully on March 24. He was 95. Born in Camp Douglas, Wis., in 1925, Kuhn settled in the Los Angeles area after serving in the Navy during World War II, where he joined the Compton Roughriders Motorcycle Club and started riding in offroad club rides. He soon started racing and competed on his Army surplus 45-inch (750cc) HarleyDavidson that was stripped down for offroad use despite trends at the time favoring single-cylinder British off-road bikes. To compete in the 1948 Greenhorn Enduro, Kuhn borrowed a rigid-frame Matchless that he rode to victory in the two-day event. That performance earned him a sponsorship from British motorcycle importer Frank Cooper. During his career, Kuhn rode against talented off-road riders such as Ernie May and Hall of Famers Aub LeBard, Max Bubeck and John McLaughlin. Notably, he won the Greenhorn again in 1950 and 1951. Because the 1950 Greenhorn was awarded the AMA sanction for that year’s national enduro title, Kuhn’s victory also earned him the 1950 AMA National Enduro Championship. That same year, Kuhn and LeBard helped establish the Catalina Grand Prix on Santa Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California. The Catalina Grand Prix became one of the most popular races of the 1950s. During the 1951 inaugural race, Kuhn charged through the field to finish third. Kuhn achieved an emotional victory at the classic Big Bear Endurance Run in 1952, where he raced in a tribute to a close friend who had died in that same race in the mid1940s.

solo, we raised an incredible amount for Movember, and came closer together as a community, sharing our stories and connections to the cause. Looking ahead to 2021, we’re eager to get back on the road to ride and celebrate 10 years of DGR. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride from 2021 will permanently move to May, with the next ride being held on Sunday, May 23, 2021. This is a significant change that has been decided on due to overwhelming feedback from our riders and volunteer hosts from around the world, based on the impact that the weather has had on the safety of our events in recent years. In the USA, the Distinguished Gentlemen have raised $27.45 million for men’s health and documented 340,000 classic and vintage riders. There are 107 countries around the world participating. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride
The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride unites classic and vintage style motorcycle riders all over the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health. The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa. It was inspired by a photo of TV Show Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit. Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting niche motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support the men in our lives. Since our inaugural year in 2012, The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride has run on the last Sunday of September. For 9 long years, many of us have steadfastly ridden in rain and wind; dedicated to raising funds and awareness of prostate cancer and men’s mental health. Then 2020 came, and the entire fabric of DGR changed for a moment. Riding
Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day
In 2021, the Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day will celebrate its 30th anniversary. Next, the goal of the annual Ride to Work Day is to advocate the use of motorcycles. And not only for transportation, but also to show the public the utility of riding each day. In particular, how motorcycles reduce traffic congestion and how much less space they take to park. In addition, the Ride Your Motorcycle to Work Day also highlights how much fun motorcycles are. Also, there are no fees for the Ride Your Bike to Work. All you need to do is get out and ride on this day. www.RideToWork.org

Two 90-year-old men, Moe and Joe, have been friends all of their lives. When it’s clear that Joe is dying, Moe visits him every day. One day, Moe says, “Joe, we both loved baseball all our lives and we played minor league ball together for so many years. Please do me one favor? When you get to Heaven, somehow, you must let me know if there’s baseball there.” Joe looks up at Moe from his death bed,” Moe, you’ve been my best friend for many years. All the old lady did was yell a scripture at you.” “Scripture?” replied the burglar, “She said she had an axe and two 38’s!” A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon. Four worms were placed into four separate jars. The first worm was put into a container of alcohol. The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke. The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup. The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil. At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results: The first worm in alcohol, Dead. The second worm in cigarette smoke, Dead! Third worm in chocolate syrup, Dead! Fourth worm in good clean soil, Alive! So, the Minister asked the congregation, “So, my friends? What did you learn from this demonstration?” Maxine, sitting in the back, quickly raised her hand and said, “As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won’t have worms!” That pretty much ended the service!
