Comfort women’s testimonies translated for the first time 시민 번역가들, 일본군 위안부 증언 영어로 세계에 알린다 자발적 지원... 체계적 번역은 처음

An English testimony* record made by victims of Japanese comfort women* is to be released to notify the world of the victimization of comfort women. It is the first organized English translation of such records.

The meeting consisting of four civic activists*, has been translating testimonies of comfort women into English since last December. The translations started in order to arouse attention from the international community of the Japanese wartime comfort women issue. They argue that

English records are necessary to convey the experience of comfort women effectively.

Several testimonies have been translated in full length and also arrange the life and experience of comfort women. They were recently funded by the Korea Human Rights Foundation.

They are also working on writings of veterans* of those days and researching specific words used on the spot. It is not only for precise selection of vocabulary, but also for delivering the victims’ voices and expressions.

Finished work is to be released on a website, in cooperation with related institutions. There are efforts to have the work published as well.

Park Hye-ran, one of the translators, said “The translation will bring people’s attention to sexual violence* in wars, which is also happening all over the world even today.” She also mentioned that those who would like to participate are welcome.

일본군 '위안부' 피해자들의 경험을 전 세계에 알릴 수 있 도록 증언을 영어로 옮긴 기록물이 나온다. 보고서 작성을 위 한 부분발췌번역이 아니라 증언을 체계적으로 정리하기 위 한 영문 번역 시도는 처음이다. 국내 전문번역가와 원어민 에디터 등 시민활동가 4명으로 이뤄진 '번역활동가 모임'은 지난해 12월부터 위안부 피해자 증언 영문번역 작업을 진행 중이라고 3일 밝혔다. 수요시위 등 일본군 위안부 문제 관련 자원활동을 하면서 만난 이들은 위안부 문제를 국제사회에 알리려면 피해자의

경험을 '있는 그대로' 전하는 영문 기록물이 필요하다는 데 의견을 모아 번역을 시작했다. 이들은 피해자 등록을 시작한 1991년 이후 녹취•수집된 234명의 증언 가운데 지금까지 6명의 증언 전문을 번역했고 30명의 생애와 경험을 요약 정리했다. 1차 목표는 위안부 피 해자 10명의 증언 전문을 영어로 옮기는 것이다. 번역활동가 모임은 지난 3월 이 작업과 관련해 한국인권재단의 '인권홀 씨기금'의 지원을 받았다. 당시 참전 군인들의 수기, 현장에서 쓰였던 용어 등에 대해

서도 작업 중이다. 번역 시 적확한 용어 선택뿐 아니라 화자 의 어조, 뉘앙스를 그대로 살리는데 주력하고 있다. 결과물은 한국정신대문제대책협의회, 대학 연구센터 등 필요한 기관과 공유해 웹사이트에 올리기로 했다. 책 출간을 위해 현재 영미권 출판사와 협의 중이다. 번역가 박혜란씨는 "지금도 세계 곳곳에서 벌어지는 전쟁 성폭력을 다시 드러내고 조명하는 작업이 될 것"이라며 "뜻 을 같이하는 분이 있다면 함께 작업하고 싶다"고 말했다.

Rise of the Sirutteok dance 광주 클럽 유행 시루떡춤, "목과 머리 반복해 끄덕이면 끝"

The ‘Sirutteok’ dance that was featured on ‘Hello Counselor’ is becoming the hottest trend.

On June 3, the story of Sul Sang-woon was introduced. He was worried about his friends who love to go clubbing.

“It is a problem that my friends love clubs too much” he said. “One of them was fired one month after he got his job, because he went clubbing for a whole week. My other friend dropped out of

school.”

He also complained* that he “spends around 200,000 to 300,000 won per month to pay for their meals and taxi fees.” At the studio, Sul’s friends showed the Sirutteok dance, which is a big trend in Gwangju, South Jeolla Province.

The dance is performed by nodding one’s neck and head repeatedly. People can blow whistles and stretch their arms. It is considered simple,

but has addictive* features* that make the dance attractive*. After watching the Sirutteok dance, netizens commented that “It is perfect the dance after a night of drinking.” Some claimed that “It reminds [them] of commercials* that show rice cakes after some drinks.” Most agreed that “[it’s] a weird dance.”

KBS2 ‘대국민 토크쇼 안녕하세요’에 나온 ‘시루떡춤’이 연일 화제다. 지난 3일 안녕하세요에는 친구들이 클럽에 가는 것을 좋아해 고민이라는 설상운씨의 사연이 소개됐다. 그는 “친구들이 하도 클럽을 좋아해서 문제”라며 “한 친구는 일주일 내내 클럽에 가서 취직 한 달 만에 회사에서 해고되고

Working overtime is the top reason why office workers want to resign*.

Survey results of Eduwill and Job Korea in May show that 1,121 employees felt impulses* to resign. 94.6% of respondents (1060 employees) felt such impulses, the biggest reason being overtime work.

colleagues, 20.8% being envious of their coworkers having higher salaries and 20.1% because of receiving poor evaluations for their performance. 33.6% of those respondents were not able to resign because of financial issues and 32.7% due to difficulty finding better jobs.

Occupy Turkey protest 터키 반정부 시위, 세계 곳곳에서 지지 잇따라

Protests in Turkey, which were originally against government plans to redevelop Gezi Park, have grown to demanding for the resignation* of Prime Minister* Erdogan.

Many groups supporting the protesters have increased around the world.

The protesters took photos and videos of police suppression* and posted them on social networks, triggering the formation of support groups centered on Turks living overseas. According to foreign reports, the protests, which have been going on

since May 28, spread to around 90 cities in Turkey.

Mr. Erdogan has demanded the protests to end, criticizing the EU and the U.S. for using similar methods of suppression on its own citizens.

Cure for ASD using 3D images 3D화상으로 심장 구멍 치료 병원서... 성공률 거의100%

By using 3D images, cure for Atrial Septal Defects (ASD)* has become possible.

ASD is one of the most frequent congenital heart diseases, showing a defect within the interatrial septum*.

The interatrial septum is a muscular wall dividing the left and right atria of the heart, ASD being a disease causing blood flow between them.

In Japan, one out of 1500 patients have the disease. As it develops,

cardiac arrhythmia* may occur, leading to heart attacks and a stroke.

According to the Japanese media, Okiyama Hospital has given treatments to 700 ASD patients since 2005.

Most surgeries are done by placing a three millimeter diameter catheter from the bottom of the feet to block the blood flow.

However, almost 90% of patients had to surgically open their hearts because of the difficulty to find

the location of each hole without making many holes opened within the atrium.

Recently, researchers of the hospital visualized 3D images of inner parts of the heart by putting tubes that release ultrasonic waves from the mouth to throat. This result was developed to catheter treatments that can diagnose locations and sizes of holes from those images.

Researchers said that among 27 ASD patients treated this way, 26

patients were successfully cured.

Dr. Akagi, who led this treatment, explained, "In the past, the surgery required at least two to three weeks of hospitalization*, but this new treatment is very helpful, because it can help patients avoid overstretching heart-opening surgeries."

있으며 진행되면서 심장마비와 뇌졸중으로 이어질 가능성이 있는 부정맥 등을 일으킬 수 있다. 일본 언론에 따르면 오카야마 병원에서는 2005년 이후 700명의 ASD 환자에 대해 치 료를 실시했다. 수술은 대부분 직경 약 3mm의 카테터를 발밑에서 넣어 구멍을 막는 방법이 주를 이 루고 있다.

그러나 환자의 약 90%는 심방에 여러 개의 구멍이 열려있는 구멍형으로 가슴을 절개하 지 않은 상태에서 각 구멍의 위치를 파악하 는 것이 어려워 심장을 절개하는 수술을 선 택할 수 밖에 없었다. 최근 이 병원 연구진은 지난 2011년 초음 파를 방출하는 관을 입으로부터 식도에 넣어 심장 내부를 3차원으로 화상화하여 그 이미 지에서 구멍의 위치와 크기를 정확하게 진단

할 수 카테터 치료법을 개발했다, 연구진은 27명의 ASD 환자를 대상으로 상 기 치료법을 실시하여 1명을 제외한 26명이 성공하는 수확을 거뒀다고 밝혔다. 이 치료법을 주도한 아카기박사는 "과거에 는 통상 2~3주 정도 입원이 필요했으나 새 치료법은 환자에게 부담이 큰 심장절개 수술 을 피할 수 있어 매우 유용하다"고 설명했다.

Introduction of national compatible transportation cards in November 버스·지하철 등 전국 호환 교통카드 11월 도입

Public transportation including expressways, KTX trains, subways and buses will be able to be accessible with a single transportation card, excluding intercity buses* starting on the next half of this year.

The ‘Promotion of Compatible* Transportation Card Agreement’ was signed by the Ministry of

Land, Infrastructure and Transportation on June 4.

Railway, Gyeonggi Province and EB cards are expected to be released in the latter half of this year after going through system supplementation* and tests for two to three months.

Maeng Sung-kyu, the Director General for the Comprehensive Transport Policy* of the

Ministry commented that, “This policy will enhance convenience to those who have difficulty paying for expressway fees and railway tickets with current transportation cards that also have restrictions on usage for other districts.”

Talks renewed with Pyongyang

남북한 회담 재개

Government-level talks were held between North and South Korean officials on Sunday at Panmunjom, the first in years.

A meeting will be held on Wednesday through the inter-Korean ministerial level at the request of the unification* minister, Ryoo Kihl-jae.

Pyongyang first issued the proposal for talks

on Thursday, saying “The venue* of the talks and the date for their opening can be set to the convenience of the south side.”

Officials quickly accepted the offer, stating they have been seeking talks “continuously” on Kaesong since the North shut it down. The North expressed appreciation for the response on Friday.

Pyongyang reconnected a hotline on Friday that it had severed amid* recent tensions caused by its long-range rocket launch in December and an underground nuclear test in February.

Most office workers believe in the need for property management*, pe r ha ps due to the ir limited income. A survey regarding the necessity* of property management was done on 852 office workers, 99.3% replying that it was necessary. The biggest reason was ‘for a financially adequate* and relaxed life’ (38.8%). Other reasons were ‘financial security during old age’ (21.2%), ‘happiness of life’ (10.6%), ‘emergency situations’ (10.3%), ‘family

benefits’ (7.4%) and ‘increase in wealth’ (5.4%).

However, it was revealed that up to 94.1% of respondents had difficulty in getting property management.

‘Small income’ (53.5%) was the main reason and ‘difficulties in acquiring good information (32.9%) and in reducing consumption (30.9%)’, and ‘fear of failure in investment’ (15.1%) were other setbacks.

were receiving property management, its costs settling around 770,000 won per month, an amount equal to about 36% of the average monthly household income.

Chairman of CJ takes responsibility for slush fund scandal

CJ Group chairman Lee JayHyun has sent an apology email to all employees on allegations of the slush fund scandal.

“I am regretful and cannot deny my distress” Lee wrote. “I will take full responsibility.”

He also wrote “It is all of you, who come to work every day, attend meetings, move around and create our products and contents.” He emphasized*, “Do not be shaken by the current situation. You cannot let it damage your dreams and working

environment.”

It was followed by, “I will take measures to maintain growth and development for all executives and staff members and CJ itself.”

Prosecutors raided Lee’s Seoul home in Namdaemun Road, Jung

Yoo Jae-suk being embarrassed over a phone call to his newscaster wife, Na Kyung-eun was broadcasted.

A special episode of ‘Infinite Challenge’ named ‘Minority Report,’ was on air on June 8, capturing other members’ behaviors based on their given missions.

Noh Hong-chul foresaw that Yoo was going visit the other members’ homes for the mission, and informed* them to hide away from their homes.

Gil then called Yoo’s wife, Yoo surprised and embarrassed by the phone call. Yoo exclaimed “Hang up Kyung-eun!” and forcibly hung up the

phone. Yoo blushed during the broadcast, evoking laughter among the audience.

People who saw the broadcast commented that “Calling his wife by her name makes me feel tingly*.” Others said “They’re still like newlyweds.”

방송 도중 갑작스런 전화연결에 얼굴이 빨개진 유재석은 시 청자들의 웃음을 자아냈다. 한편 나경은과의 전화연결 방송을 본 네티즌들은 “아내 이 름을 경은이라고 부르다니 설레였다” "여전히 신혼같아” 등 다양한 반응을 보였다.

Son Yeon-jae wins gold at Asian Championships '폭풍 성장' 손연재, 아시아선수권서 첫 금메달 쐈다

Asian gymnastics has become too small for a star like Son Yeon-jae, who currently ranked sixth in the world.

Son won the gold at the 2013 Asian Championships held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan with a total of 72.066 points in all four events.

Son being the first Korean gold medalist at the Asian Championships, she beat Jamila Rakhmatova of Uzbekistan by 1.467 points.

Son’s victory was expected by experts, especially when they analyzed her performance

as being distinct during the qualifying matches* held on June 5 and 6.

Son is a rising star, standing amongst the top gymnasts and winning four medals in a row in the all-season World Cup hosted by the International Federation of Gymnastics (IFG)*. “ M y n e x t g o a l i s t o w i n t h e Wo r l d Championships in Ukraine that will be near the end of August” she said confidently to the press.

Lee Si-young’s boxing victory disputed 이시영 편파 판정 논란

Debate rose over the victory of actress and boxer Lee Si-young in the national boxing team tryouts.

Lee said during an interview with KBS2’s ‘Entertainment Weekly’ that “both the opponent and I did our best.”

Lee won the match with a score of 2220 against Kim Da-som in the tryout for the 48-kilogram class. Many claim that the actress

was favored* by the referees.

She further added that she “always needed to try more. I think that even the disputes on the judgment will be of help in the future.”

Latin American Festival 라틴 아메리카 축제

Despite the scorching* weather, hundreds gathered at the Latin American Festival held at the Seongbuk Stream Fountain Square* on June 8.

Since 2011, the Latin American Festival has become an annual event for promoting Latin American culture through selling food or souvenirs*, while performing Latin music and dance.

Mexican, Colombian, Chile, Peruvian and Brazilian food booths were set up alongside the stream, offering exotic* dishes. Wine, sangria, South American beer, lemonade and traditional fruit salad was prepared to quench the thirst of spectators*. Traditional Latin American hats, clothes, instruments, coffee and candy were

put up for sale.

Hans-Alexander Kneider, honorary village chief of Seongbuk Global Village Center, officiated* at the event. Participating at the opening ceremony were Seongbuk borough mayor Kim Young-bae, as well as ambassadors from Brazil, Colombia and Germany.

At the opening ceremony, Kim said “I wish for this event to be a place where (people from around) the world can become friends.”

Following the opening ceremony were performances of tango, Latin music and Peruvian traditional instruments. A Latin dance contest was held to induce* the active participation of the crowd.

공연행사는 한스 알렉산더 크나이더(Hans-Alexander Kneider) 성북글로벌빌리지센터 명예동장이 사회를 봤 고, 김영배 성북구청장을 비롯한, 주한 브라질 대사, 콜롬 비아 대사 등 남미국가 출신 외교관과 독일 대사 부부 등 도 자리를 함께하여 개막식을 열었다. 김영배 성북구청 장은 개막식에서 “(이번 행사가) 우리 지구가 친구가 되 는 자리가 되었으면 좋겠습니다” 라고 연설을 했다. 개막 식이 끝나고는 탱고 공연, 페루 전통악기, 라틴음악 공연, 라틴댄스 콘테스트 등의 무대가 분위기를 달구었다.

A look into the movie ‘Holly’ 운명적으로 엮인 여자들의 이야기, 영화 ‘홀리’

Meet Wan-yi. She’s the daughter of Holly, who works at a USFK* military camp town nightclub. She isn’t ashamed at all when her friends call her mother a ‘foreigner’s whore (양공주).’ Thanks to growing up under her rather childish mother, Wan-yi is much more mature than other kids around her age.

One day, world renowned ballerina Su-jin appears in front of Holly and Wan-yi. She has originally taken advantage of being adopted* by foreigners by betraying Holly when they were both orphans. Su-jin offers to teach Wan-yi ballet out of guilt*.

However, Holly goes all-out* in rejecting Su-jin’s offer.

Directed by Park Byung-hwan, ‘Holly’ stars Shin Yi as the lead actress. Minah of girl group ‘Girl’s Day’ makes her first attempt at acting in a film by playing the role of Wan-yi, a gifted child at dancing who is frustrated that Holly and Su-jin each have different plans for her in mind.

Jung Ae-yeon stars as Su-jin, a world renowned ballerina who is tormented by the guilt of having betrayed Holly to become successful.

Wut it do Wut it do! This is your weekly Bonafide. I just got LASIK the other day, and it hurt quite a bit for a couple of hours, but the next day a whole new world was presented to me. I didn’t have to stumble my way to find my glasses, nor did I have to decide whether I was going to wear my contacts or not. Literally, I could see clearer. This made me remind of the earlier days when I started to listen to Hip-Hop. My first memorable encounter with Hip-Hop was when I went back to the States in 2002. I was in a boarding school during that time, so having a bunch of teenagers in a dorm gives you a versatile experience. This is when I first heard the song, ‘Cleaning Out My Closet’ by Eminem. 안녕하십니까? 보나파이드 입니다. 이번주에 라식수술을 하게되었는데요, 몇시간동안의 고통을 참고견디니 정말 신세계가 펼쳐지더군요. 아침에 일어나서 안경찾느라 침대주위를 더듬거리지도 않고, 오늘은 렌즈를낄까 안경을낄까 고민할필요도 없었어서 너무 좋았습니 다, 마치 세상에 눈을 다시 뜬것처럼 말이죠. 그러다 보니, 예전에 처음에 힙합의 눈을 뜬것 이 떠올라 이번주 주제로 정하기로 했습니다. 제가 2002년도에 다시 미국으로 가게되었을 때 기숙학교를 다니게 되었습니다. 기숙사에 있다보면 정말 다채로운 사람들과 같이 생활 을 하게되는데요, 그해에 에미넴의 “Cleaning Out My Closet”을 처음 듣게 되었습니다.

First, I was just hooked to the chorus part, since it was easy to sing along, but listening to it several times made me catch some phrases from the lyrics. It was the first song that I actually took my time to look up the lyrics online and I was shocked. The song was negative and violent, but it carried so much emotion that it felt like I was seeing a movie or reading a book about someone’s hardship in life. The more amazing part is how the lyrics and rhymes are put together. It was so smooth and gave great emphasis on what Eminem was trying to convey. Hip-Hop wasn’t that familiar to me, since I had a hard time understanding what the rappers were saying.

However, Eminem had a coherent pronunciation and a less colloquial choice of diction that made this possible for me. After listening to almost all of Eminem’s songs, I expanded my Hip-Hop playlist to a point where I am able to share it with other people. It brings me happiness when the songs I introduce can inspire other people. This week’s playlist is like the LASIK of my musical eye, the songs that never gets old and the songs that made me addicted to this genre. Enjoy. 처음엔 단순히 후렴부분이 따라부르기 쉬워서 듣게 되었는데, 듣다보니 조금씩 가사가 귀 에 들리기 시작하는것입니다. 그래서 호기심에 가사를 찾아서 같이 듣고나서 정말 경악을 금치못했습니다. 노래 자체는 어둡고 폭력적이기도하나, 감정이 너무나 잘실려서 마치 영 화또는 책을 읽는듯한 느낌을 받았습니다. 또한 가사들과 라임들이 조화를 너무 잘이루어 져 머릿속에 그림이 저절로 그려지더군요. 사실 처음 힙합과 거리가 멀수밖에 없었던것은 언어의 장벽도 있고 은어나 비속어를 사용하다보면 알아듣기가 쉽지않은데요, 에미넴은 발 음도 정확하게 하고 말도 꼬아 쓰지않아 처음에 듣게 되었던것같습니다. 에미넴의 전앨범 을 듣게된이후에 조금씩 조금씩 다른 랩퍼들의 노래를 듣다보니 어느새 매니아가 되어있는 제 모습을 발견하였습니다. 이제는 이노래들을 여러분과 지인들과 함께 나눌수있다는것또 한 저에겐 큰 기쁨입니다. 저의 음악의눈에 라식같은 존재였던 노래 몇개를 추천합니다. 그 럼 좋은 한주 보내십시오.

Cyworld or Facebook: what is your choice? 싸이월드와 페이스북, 당신의 선택은?

At the end of the 2000’s, Korea encountered the ‘Cyworld hysteria.’ For us who were accustomed to online chatting and web browsing, Cyworld, which was providing us with personal space and so called, ‘friend request*’ was a wholly different world. The category of ‘public’ and ‘friends’ emerged. It was the new space that came out, only for me and friends who are interconnected with me. After 2010, the Cyworld hysteria was swept away by the late-coming ‘Facebook typhoon.’ This somewhat similar, but different social network from the U.S. has become popular among people even until now. Even though I was also the one of the people that moved to Facebook from Cyworld, it was only because most people moved. In this backdrop, I want to state three main reasons why Cyworld is better than Facebook.

First, Cyworld has provided us with authentic individual space. If you upload something on Facebook, all writings, pictures and videos go on to every registered friend’s space called the ‘news feed.’ We are sharing contents to people regardless of their interests towards us. We click meaningless ‘likes’ and it spreads out significantly. Also, when you are writing to certain individuals or leaving comments, everything is unconsciously shared.

This is not the thing that we wanted or expected in the first place. In contrast, if we upload writings on Cyworld, only the people that visit the page may check it out. If you leave comments on a visitor’s book, you are able to designate the status as ‘public’ or ‘private,’ which is not naturally shared with others. Rather than just leaving a

2000년대 후반, 한국은 ‘싸이월드 광풍’을 맞이하게 된다. 채팅창과 인터넷 검색에만 익숙해있던 우리에게 자신만의 공간을 제공함과 소위 ‘일촌 맺기’라는 방식으로 구성된 싸 이월드는 새로운 세상이었다. ‘전체공개’와 ‘일촌공개’라는 카테고리가 생겼으며 자기자신과 일촌이 되어있는 친구들만 공유할 수 있는 공간이 생긴 것이었다. 2010년이 지나며, 싸 이월드 광풍은 뒤늦은 페이스 북 태풍에 휩쓸린다. 뭔가 비슷 하면서도 다른 이 미국에서 온 SNS는 지금까지도 사람들이 가장 많이 애용하고 있다. 필자 또한 싸이월드에서 페이스북 으로 옮겨온 사람 중 한 명이지만 그 이유는 단순히 사람들이 후자로 모두 넘어가 버렸다는 이유에서였다. 이에 우리가 잊 고 있는 싸이월드가 페이스북보다 나은 3가지 이유를 서술하 고자 한다. 첫째, 싸이월드가 실질적인 자기만의 공간을 제공했었다. 페이스북에 뭔가를 올리면 개인이 친구로 등록되어 있는 모 든 사람의 ‘뉴스피드’라는 공간에 그 글, 사진 또는 영상이 올 라간다. 자신에게 관심이 있든 없든 그 사람들은 우리가 올 린 컨텐츠를 자연스럽게 공유하게 된다. 아무 의미 없는 ‘좋 아요’를 누르게 되며 그 내용들은 일파만파 퍼진다. 또한, 누 군가에게 개인적인 글을 남길 때도 댓글을 남길 때도 모든 게 공유된다. 이렇게 많은 사람들에게 글을 보여준다는 게 애초 에 우리가 원했던 것이 아닐 수도 있다. 대조적으로, 싸이월 드에서는 글을 올리면 자신의 페이지에 들어온 사람만이 확 인을 할 수 있었다. 개인적으로 방명록을 남기면 공개 또는 비공개를 설정할 수 있었으며 자연스럽게 남들에게 공유되 *friend request: 싸이월드의 ‘일촌’

Second, Cyworld has a main page and your own music. Facebook does not have a main page. We have lost space where we could reveal our everyday emotions. Sometimes it could feel like something is not yet organized properly. On Cyworld, own private space exists where we could express. Through banners, backgrounds and words we are able to reveal ourselves without censorship. Also, Facebook does not have music. Cyworld does have music called BGM (Background music).

In our memories, there remains the days when we could listen to great music and new music through friend’s pages that we have found out by chance. Personally, it is still a mystery for me that Facebook does not have a BGM. Third, Cyworld does have the ‘friend name’ category, which is to designate the relationship.

But it is really simple to add a friend on Facebook. If related people come up, you can simply push the ‘add a friend’ category, and if the counterpart agrees, the two become friends.

But, it does not matter how close you are with that certain person. In one sense, it can only be a filing up of meaningless personal connections.

지 않았다. 그냥 우연히 지나가며 올라온 글에 다는 댓글보다 는 실질적으로 나를 생각하며 찾아와 한마디를 던져주던 그 시절이 가끔은 그립다. 둘째, 싸이월드는 메인 페이지가 있었으며 자신만의 음악 이 있었다. 페이스북에는 메인 페이지가 없다. 우리가 오늘 하루 느끼고 있는 감정을 드러낼 수 있는 페이지가 없는 것이 다. 내가 느끼고 있는 기분은 꼭 글로 써서 표현을 해야 하며 그마저 많은 글들에 휩쓸려 금방 사라져버린다. 자신의 집이 라는 느낌보다는 많은 사람들이 같이 쓰는 집 같은 기분이 드 는 것이다. 어찌 보면 약간 정리가 안된다는 생각이 들 때도 있다. 싸이월드에는 자신만의 공간이 있었고 그 안에 메인 글 에 자신을 나타낼 수 있었으며 감정을 표현할 수 있었다. 배 너나 배경 그리고 글귀들은 자신이 현재 느끼고 있는 그런 모 습들을 여과 없이 드러내줬다. 또한, 페이스북에는 음악이 없다. 싸이월드에는 BGM이라고 하는 음악이 있었다. 다소 밋밋할 수 있는 자신만의 홈페이지에 음악의 존재여부는 굉 장히 새로운 느낌을 준다. 우연히 찾은 친구의 페이지에서 들 려오던 좋은 노래, 새로운 노래를 알게 되던 것도 싸이월드 시대에 우리가 기억하는 추억의 일부이다. 개인적으로, 페이 스북에 BGM기능이 없단 건 솔직히 아직까지도 미스터리다. 셋째, 싸이월드는 서로를 규정짓는 ‘일촌명’이 있었다. 페 이스북에서 친구를 추가하는 건 정말 단순하다. 연관되는 사 람들이 뜨면 단순히 ‘친구 추가’란 버튼을 누르고 상대방의 동의 아래 친구가 된다. 하지만, 서로가 어느 정도 아는 사이 든 말든 그건 아무 의미가 없다. 어떻게 보면 의미 없는 인맥

on the internet, are unfamiliar when meeting in real life. How about the time when we were using Cyworld? We were able to set the friend name category. It was excessive* for people to acknowledge someone, who is still awkward and unfamiliar, in the name of a friend. When the relationship actually go over that certain line (of familiarity), we start to designate each other with the name or title. It was the time when we could think of other people in the category of the friend name rather than meaningless clicking.

In addition, greater thing is that we can change that name when we become closer to a person.

Nowadays, when we seem to consider personal relationships lightly, I often think this kind of method was much better.

We are on Facebook 24/7. We are gobsmacked with the incessant contents that are posted up. In other words, it seems like people have unconsciously been addicted to these meaningless writings. Frankly speaking, people were addicted to Cyworld in the past, but not this far. What was the real image of social networking that we coveted* for? I think we forget about Cyworld within the world of Facebook. In some ways, doesn’t Cyworld have the original image of the social networking that we have defined?
