Dear Reader, I don’t know about you, but my half-full glass feels very much like it’s brimming with the season of Spring. The mornings are feeling that bit brighter and the evening sun begins to make a welcome return to our windows. So on with the month of March, and a monolithic amount of activity for one to welcome with open arms. We salute the fabulous femmes and celebrate their glory via International Women’s Day, and of course for the child bearers among you we have a fun list of activities to celebrate, you Mothers! The middle of March see the return of the wonderful Guildford International Music Festival; a roster of artists from a variety of musical backgrounds, brought together into the town for a run of events lasting just over a week. FYI - It’s going to be an awful lot of fun! Runners (and spectators) at the ready - it’s time for the Surrey Half Marathon to hit the streets. This year the course runs from Woking to Guildford and back; check out our coverage for road closures and more. And of course, that all important exercise of democracy and freedom, the General Election, is just a couple of months away and with it continues our coverage on who’s who and who intends to do what. Remember that whilst this magazine you hold in your hands is full of information and wonder, if you find yourself in a moment without said magazine in your grasp, you can always head to theguide2surrey.com for much more information and much more wonder. Have you decided who you’re voting for yet?
Have you decided who you’re voting for yet?
Have you decided who you’re voting for yet?
I haven’t decided yet.
I’ve had some ideas, but I keep changing lodgings so am not registered. So I need to sort that out!
I have. It’s the Conservatives, because they’ve got the economy going the right way, I’m not saying it’s completely straight but they got us out of a big mess, there were some tough decisions but they took them.
What would it take for you to reach a decision? Lots of things really. The economy, foreign policy, housing. There are a whole load of issues.
Assuming you were registered, what would be the deciding factor for you to cast your vote this May?
What one issue means the most to you?
I think with me it’s the welfare system, making sure that people who need it receive the right help. But then it’s also important to make it harder for people to receive benefits who don’t want to work, so that they don’t make more money for being out of work than they would in employment.
I think about housing. People have come to a point where they can’t afford their rent and have to depend on the government. But then there are endless wars all around the world and all the money spent on them that could be put into the economy. Do local issues affect your vote in the General Election? From where I’m from its crime. My house was robbed last week and they took about £20,000 of jewellery and it’s a problem for much of my area. I haven’t heard my local MP discuss it, but if they made tackling crime a part of their platform it might sway my vote.
Would your vote be based on local or national issues? I think around here immigration is important to a lot of people. I understand some points of view; I’ve read everyone’s manifesto. Some of them make sense but others, like UKIP, are a little too extreme for me. But I feel like there will be more people voting for them this year than ever. I think that might be down to the media to some extent.
From past experience, and from what I’m hearing already, Labour will be spending a lot of money and just put us back in the same mess. You can’t just keep spending money on a problem; you’ve got to find savings. Do local issues affect your vote in the General Election? No, mainly national issues. They affect everything and everyone. But my belief is, if I was ever in politics, there’s no way that I would have the party in the local council in opposition to the party in government. Because their goals are so opposed to one another, they’re not doing anybody any favours.

MARCH 2015
Sunday 8th March is International Women’s Day; but March is also Women’s History Month, and 2015 marks the 100th anniversary of the WI. While over the past century advancements in women’s rights have been substantial – and particularly in the developed world – it’s inarguable that there’s still a long way to go. As the most important day in Women’s History Month, International Women’s Day aims for greater awareness of gender equality. International Women’s Day has been observed since the early 1900’s, a time of great expansion and turbulence in the industrialised world that saw booming population growth and the rise of radical ideologies. Now in some countries IWD has the equivalent status of Mother’s Day where children give small presents to their mothers and grandmothers. It’s now an official holiday in many countries across the globe, many of which are developing countries. But that doesn’t mean that we in Surrey shouldn’t recognise it; indeed there are events taking place across the county which that handy info box will tell you all about. The theme for IWD 2015 is ‘Make it Happen’, encouraging effective action for advancing and recognising women. To highlight this, the colour you want to adorn is purple! Paint your website, blog, emails for the day in support, and be sure to get yourself noticed on social media with the hashtags: #MakeItHappen #womensday #IWD2015 #internationalwomensday and #PaintItPurple. So be sure to (literally) nail your colours to the mast for this year’s International Women’s Day, and support a great cause! Find out more about the day itself at www.internationalwomensday.com.

WINNING BY A NOSE: Surrey’s Search Dogs This month we’re going to take a look at Surrey Search and Rescue’s dogs, and their handlers what makes their working relationship so special. Dogs are an essential tool in searches. The dogs are finding your scent and therefore hopefully finding the missing person. As you sit there right now reading this, your body is dumping skin cells and scent. To a dog there’s a bright neon flashing arrow above each and every one of us. Blink, blink, blinkity blink. It’s important to remember that when air scenting the dogs are not looking specifically for one person; they’re sniffing for any human scent. What the dog’s nose is doing is looking for a needle in a haystack… In a field full of haystacks… In a country full of fields. Sounds tricky, but to a dog’s
nose this is actually not too taxing. Let me give you the idea: Think about when you smell something familiar or nostalgic for the first time. You haven’t smelt it in years but in that split second your brain recalls a thousand memories and relives years of experience. That’s what it’s like for a dog… all the time.
The dog is communicating all the time; every tiny bit of body language is a sentence in an incredibly intelligent conversation. Why has the dog’s ears twitched? Why is his tail up? Why is it down? These are all clues and it takes a seriously switched on person to bear all this in mind and search at the same time.
The Dog teams are different from Foot Search teams because there’s only three of them; the dog, the Dog Handler and their Support. On deployment a Foot Search Team will head out in teams of three to five. It’s seriously demanding but ultimately, to the dog, this is all just a game. Oh and because it’s looking for a human scent, get in a dog’s way and you’ll just muddy the waters.
What’s more, these dogs are all everyday normal dogs (don’t tell them that). Training starts simple, but eventually you’re asking friends to sit in bushes for you to find. The dogs are all loved pets as well as serious workers. Having spent a day training with them, they all seemed to be normal happy, yappy creatures. The minute the handlers put their jackets on it’s like someone has thrown a switch. It’s a strange thing to see a dog go into professional mode but an inspiring one at the same time. Just like their handlers, the term volunteer simply means unpaid professional.
It’s like translating the works of Chaucer into Mandarin… backwards. Through hours and hours of training the dog and handler have formed a bond stronger than you can possibly imagine.

OUR HISTORY: THE ORIGINAL GONE GIRL by Will Knowlton It’s not that often that famous people go missing, but when a mystery writer plays hooky you’ve got to sit up and take notice. Especially when the endgame doesn’t involve a body or a decent explanation. Now, unless you’re so dense that light bends around you, you’ve probably heard of Agatha Christie. Agatha was already famous and enjoying the success of her latest book when, one evening in 1926, she disappeared. Turns out Agatha, by the November of that year, was well on her way to a nervous breakdown. Her husband had been schtupping one Miss Neele for quite a while and her mother had just passed away. Having spent the day out, she came home to find hubby had finally left with some of his things and was on his way to nail Neele down Godalming way. By a quarter to ten, she calmly kissed her daughter goodbye, jumped into her Morris Cowley and drove from their home in Sunningdale, off into the night. The next morning Agatha’s car was found fricking miles away near Newlands Corner. She had left her car, no doubt avoiding the dog poo that plagues the area, and headed off into the trees. It all gets a little like one of her novels at this point; her car was found with the bonnet up but the lights on. All that was found in the car was her
fur coat (don’t tell PETA), an expired driving licence and a suitcase. In an age where news constituted Mrs Miggins having a fall and little Cuthbert getting new shoes, one can only imagine how fast this information spread. Within hours the Police had mobilised 500 odd officers, which in those days was near as dammit everyone including the tea lady. A staggering reward of 100 quid was offered for any information and even the Scouts were called in. Dinner party fact for you; this was the first time an aircraft was used in the UK to look for a missing person. Even celebrities were brought in. Dorothy L. Sayers lent a hand and Arthur Conan Doyle took a discarded glove of Agatha’s to a Medium (which turned out to be as useful as an ash tray on a motor cycle). By the time the 11 day search was in full swing, there were around 15,000 volunteers combing the countryside. So having got everyone worried, and making public services take huge strides in search techniques, the question remained: where was she? Dead surely; perhaps at the hands of someone with a name like Bradford Pendleton. But no; Agatha was in Harrogate checking into a hotel as Mrs. Teresa Neele of Cape Town clearly a nut shot at Archie and his war on two fronts. Yes indeed, she’d been dancing the Charleston, playing bridge, doing crosswords, and reading the newspapers (serious party girl - no more Jagers for you…) all along.

Talking to… Omid Djalili By Rich Lee
British-born Iranian comic and actor Omid Djalili’s legendary performances on stage and screen have won him plaudits the world over. On Friday 20th March he brings his raucous Iranalamadingdong tour to Guildford’s G Live for an unmissable show packed full of his subversive wit and energy.
Has your comedy brought you to Surrey before? Yes. I love Surrey, it’s a fantastic place. We started this show in Surrey and I love that I can come back and give you the ‘final draft’ as it were. So G Live is the best possible place to perform it. I’m really looking forward to it. Could you reveal some of the themes you discuss in your current tour? Yeah: getting older. Because before I was always that ‘Middle-Eastern guy’, now I think, what’s a Middle-Eastern guy got to say about normal, everyday things that British comics talk about? Like getting older, relationships, differences between men and women. I’ve tried to take stock, generic things and give them a massive twist. And then I deal with comedy’s last taboo at the end. What is the worst thing you think you can’t laugh at? You turn 50 this year. What significance does passing your half century hold for you? It’s hugely significant. We still feel so young even while our bits are falling off. The message I’m trying to give is: if you’re getting older you’ve got to love it, you’ve got to embrace it, you’ve got to really welcome it. Because you’ve got no choice. You’ve built a serious catalogue of film and theatre performances. Are you an actor first, comedian second or vice versa? I’m an actor first. I wanted to be an actor but everyone started giggling every time I took to the stage! I thought, this is ridiculous. One play I did and people were literally p***ing themselves laughing throughout. I thought: this is the last time I play Anne Frank!
What film and stage projects do you have lined up this year? There’s lots of stuff coming up; too many to say. One thing I’m very proud of is the documentary I produced that’s coming out in April called ‘We Are Many’. It’s about the 2003 anti-Iraq war demonstration that took place in Trafalgar Square. 1.5million came. Not many people know that 800 cities took part; the largest global demonstration in history. It’s the story of how that demonstration came about and its legacy. You talk about the perils of celebrity in your show, but have you ever leveraged your celebrity to your advantage? My tour manager always has problems getting my suit dry-cleaned. He’ll have to go two towns over and they say they can’t promise anything. Then I walk in and they say: “we’ll have it by 11 o’clock!” Finally, for those in the audience coming to see you perform for the first time in March, what can they expect from an Omid Djalili show? They’ll just forget about the troubles of the week. Their faces will ache from laughing. If you’ve had a bad week, come and see me and forget all about your worries.

International Music Festival Guildford International Music Festival is unquestionably one of the cultural highlights of our fair town. Between Friday 13th and Sunday 22nd March, around 50 events will take place in venues across the town. Surrey residents will have the rare opportunity of seeing some of the world’s best musicians from all corners of the globe, including from Japan and South America. Now in its 13th year the Festival, sponsored by our good selves at TG Media, will take place over 10 days with each performance taking place in different venues across Guildford – see our handy Festival Venue guide for the full list.
Pippa Cleary, Director of the Festival from the University of Surrey said: “This year’s Festival promises something for everyone, to inspire, entertain and challenge audiences. Talking to…Will Todd
By Joe Payne
Will Todd is one of the most celebrated composers in the UK today, with a piece commissioned for the Diamond Jubilee. We spoke to Will ahead of his performance with Tenebrae at the Holy Trinity Church on 13th March… Tenebrae will be performing compositions from your new album ‘Lux Et Veritas’ on the opening night of the Guildford International Music Festival. How does it feel to have your works performed to your adopted hometown crowd? I’m massively excited that my Guildford friends will have the opportunity to hear such an amazing, world-class choir on their doorstep. The acoustic at Holy Trinity Church is perfect for the voices of Tenebrae and I’m very proud that they will be performing a programme of my music, including some sections from (flagship work) Mass in Blue. I’ve got so many wonderfully supportive friends here in Guildford - it should be a good night! Your piece ‘The Call of Wisdom’ was commissioned for the Diamond Jubilee. How did you get involved with such a prestigious event? I worked on a community out-reach project with the music staff at St Edmondsbury Cathedral in 2009, and on the basis of writing a piece for children’s voices for them I got asked to write for St Pauls. It’s proof of the fact that projects however small can lead on to amazing things! Guildford International Music Festival is one of the town’s cultural highlights. As a local will you be attending any of the events? Are there any performers you can recommend? There’s a wealth of music on offer with something to suit all tastes. I’m particularly interested in the Holywell Ensemble concert
at the beautiful St Martha’s Church. At the other end of the spectrum The Beat at The Boileroom! You’re a Guildford Resident now. What do you enjoy about the town? Do the surroundings have any input on your music? I love the fact that you can walk into the countryside from the centre of Guildford in a few minutes. For me it’s the best possible blend of town living and countryside access. I love taking a walk through the Chantries as a way of unlocking the music in my head. You’re equally renowned for composing choral and jazz music. Are there any other musical genres you could see yourself taking a foray into? Opera and musical theatre! My Family Opera Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is now entering its 3rd season at Opera Holland Park and the CD will be coming out later this year. It’s also touring to The Wilderness Festival and The Royal Opera House in November. Which contemporary artists are you listening to, and who should we look out for? I’m particularly into the choral music of Latvian composer Êriks Ešenvalds at the moment. There’s a new CD out right now. Gorgeous!

Damien Hirst: New Religion New Religion will be on show at The Lightbox from 28 March - 5 July 2015
March 28th sees Woking’s The Lightbox gallery and museum host the Damien Hirst: New Religion, an exhibition of silkscreen prints and sculptural editions by one of the world’s most significant contemporary artists. In association with Paul Stolper and The British Council, the exhibition will explore the relationship between science, art and religion that have dominated Hirst’s 25-year career as a thought-provoking, and at times controversial, artist. New Religion was first exhibited at Paul Stolper Gallery in 2005 and has been the subject of shows in Oslo, Moscow, Venice, Sofia and at All Hallow’s Church in London. The exhibition itself is made up of 44 silkscreen
prints and four sculptures that make up some of Hirst’s most intriguing work to date. Hirst first came to prominence as a leading member of the much celebrated Young British Art movement in the 1990s. This group, that included Tracy Emin, Sarah Lucas and The Chapman Brothers, were known for their openness to materials and processes, entrepreneurial attitude and shock tactics which they used to create a buzz around their exhibitions. Hirst’s most infamous piece, a shark preserved in formaldehyde entitled ‘The Physical Impossibility of Death in the Mind of Someone Living’, embodies this desire to shock using the themes of science and mortality.

KIDS ROCK THE BOX!
By Will Knowlton
On the face of it, finding something active for the whole family to do can be a bit tricky. It’s easy to find something that one child enjoys, and another for the other child; but something that everyone will love? Well, I headed out to Guildford Spectrum, son in tow, to scratch just that itch. good because I’m busy looking around the room. There are different climbing walls, each with its own safety rope. Each wall offers various hand and foot holds, some shaped like aliens, some professional looking; all snake their way up to the roof 20 or so feet above our helmets. The ropes on each wall work a bit like a seat belt and lower you down to earth VERY gently. We all feel safe and ready to go!
Rock Box is a brand new approach to climbing; you don’t need any training or experience. On arriving we’re told all the safety rules which takes no time; ideal for the short attention spans of the little ones. The team involve all the kids in the briefing, asking them questions. All the children are keen; hands shoot up, straining to be the first to answer. This means they’re all listening, which is
To climb a wall you have to stand next to it with your hands on your helmet. This lets the guys reinforce the golden rule: Only the team can clip you on or off. Safety is really important here but the guys at Rock Box perform the neat trick of reinforcing it by making fun and simple rules; none of the children are scared into doing anything. This is great, but for this dad at the top of his second climb, the ground don’t half look far down! “Hurry up Dad, I want a go!” bellows the ever patient six year old below me. Just then I
notice that there’s been music blaring out for a while and the particular tune playing is Mission: Impossible. Well, I can’t miss this opportunity to take advantage of a theme tune, and like the scores of kids and adults around me, I drop gently back down to some helpful advice: “Well done dad, you probably climbed almost as fast as me, but never mind, you can try again when I’m finished, I’ll do it faster than you.” Cheers for that mate. The walls are high, and the staff really encourage the kids to climb higher. What’s also nice is that if you’re not feeling up for a climb you sit in the room with your kids so you can join in encouraging and taking photos of your little monkeys. All in all, we had a great time and the hour we were there flew past.

Try Something New:
Pirate Island Adventure Golf
Want to take an 8 months to 80 years crew on a fun day out? Hoebridge’s Pirate Island Adventure Golf is a must for Woking-dwellers… To use a well-worn cliché, Pirate Island Adventure Golf at Hoe Bridge in Woking really is an activity for all ages. Upon arrival, I realised that my little clan was behind a hen party and in front of a large family, with kids of varying ages. As we approached the course, it’s fair to say that the Pirate Island itself is highly impressive. Having only opened in early 2013, it was all shiny and new (to get all ‘I’m a magpie’ on you) and looked truly brilliant; as if to spite the forboding clouds up ahead. The large ship that culminates in the climax of your 18 holes looms on the horizon, and there’s a giant skull and pirate graveyard to give a sense of fun macabre to proceedings. Moreover there’s a couple of cool little rafts to haul yourself
over the small rivers that run throughout the course. Anyway, we went through the hut to purchase our club and pick our coloured golf ball –each ‘pirate’ (adult) costs £8. Scallywags – the 4 to 16 year olds – are a fiver, and the stowaways (the 3 and unders) can play gratis; which is actually rather reasonable considering we were still hacking aimlessly a good hour and a half later. We started at around 11.30am – when returning our golf balls at lunchtime, the hut was full of eager people waiting for their turn. The round itself was excellent fun; the predominantly par three course was full of tricky little shots, with each one offering an ‘easy’ and a
‘difficult’ route. Balls come out of cannons, land on paths, go in water, disappear and reappear – at some point, every one of our crew was staring, mouth agape, waiting to see where their ball would wind up. So Pirate Island Adventure Golf was a resounding success, and is highly recommended. We genuinely had good, wholesome fun relatively early on an overcast Saturday. The youngest kids won’t get too many pars, but will just love the visuals and layout, and it’s competitive and tricky enough for everyone else to enjoy.

WHERE TO EAT: The Weyside, Guildford
When it comes to the perfect spot for a long, languid, woozy summer afternoon with friends in Guildford, you’d be hard pressed to pick a finer joint than the Weyside. I can recall many weekends out on the pub’s perennially popular terrac, gazing out over the serene River Wey and the grassy banks and meadows beyond, taking my happy time in the summertime. And while the pub’s changed hands a few times in recent years – going by the names the Boatman, the Jolly Farmer and then the Weyside once again – and occasionally fallen out of favour with locals, it’s thanks to Young’s taking over in 2013 and a passionate new team that the best incarnation of the Weyside has finally been realised. Inside, the Weyside oozes a classy kind of coziness, all mismatched furniture and tones of duck egg blue and pastel greens. It’s child friendly, dog friendly and, as we will happily discover, foodie friendly. A starter of pigeon breasts proved an earthy, rustic treat atop a bed of gnocchi, pancetta and watercress. Across from this a fillet
of shimmering pink smoked trout nuzzled up to a crisp sweetcorn fritter topped with a luscious blob of rich, lemony cream cheese and watercress.
a summer spot. With a new look and new confidence, the Weyside is simply a great location for drinking and dining at any time of the year.
With main courses the kitchen have nailed the season, serving us the kind of hearty, comforting and generous winter dishes we were hoping for. The venison steak, cooked to a nice blush in the middle, was smartly complemented by poached pears and apple and beetroot chutney, the mellow fruit singing in perfect harmony with the venison’s robust, gamey flavour.
By Rich Lee
A handsome braised lamb shank did exactly what was required: to fall decadently off the bone and into the sticky, rich red onion glaze and buttery chive mash beneath. Golden, honey roast vegetables rounded out this hug on a plate sublimely. Desserts were simple, happy pleasures in the form of an apple and raspberry crumble (with custard, natch) and a cheery Belgian waffle given a touch of class with salted caramel ice cream and toffee sauce. You have to admire the Weyside’s deft, light touch with their food. Dishes are unfussy yet focussed on flavours and are presented in the same fashion. It proves –as if proof were needed - that this time-honoured Guildford pub is far more than

The Grantley Arms
The Red Lion
It’s just so gosh darn cold, isn’t it? And with the winter still upon us for a little longer, we think that the visitation of a pub is basically mandatory. Here are some of our favourite independent Surrey Hills pubs that are perfect for cosying up during these last days of winter…
The Jolly Farmer Bramley
The Hurtwood Inn Peaslake
The Red Lion Shamley Green
This family owned freehouse in beautiful Bramley is everything a country pub should be. Offering more real ales than you could shake a proverbial at, they reckon that ‘every day is a beer festival’. Youv’e got to love that…
The most cyclist-friendly pub in Surrey? The Hurtwood Inn pub and restaurant located in lovely Peaslake is run by Robi and Lorenzo, former head honchos of Cambio and Bar Centro in Guildford. As such The Hurtwood Inn offers exquisite Italian fare.
See, if you can boast having a ‘game week’ – and by which we mean the meat, not sport – we’re automatically going to put you in our good books. The Red Lion nestles inside typically gorgeous Surrey countryside and offers some of the finest cuisine you could wish for. Perfect for adults, kids, dogs…

MARCH 2015
TEST DUMMY: RED
OUR RESIDENT SPORTS WRITER TAYLER WILLSON MADE A FLIPPANT REMARK ABOUT “Yoga? That thing that women do because they can’t lift really heavy weights like all us men do? Yeah, I’ve heard of it, why? Oh I’m doing it? Easy” – Tayler Willson, 2015. That right there, readers, is possibly the most ridiculous, narrow-minded thing I’ve ever said in my life, and I apologise profusely, especially because I can’t/don’t lift heavy weights. I still shake now as I write this article (almost two hours after the session’s conclusion), which demonstrates just how challenging a workout Red Hot Yoga is (or how severely unfit I am). I attended a one-and-a-half hour full-body work-out session, in circa 40 degree heat, at Guildford’s Red Hot Yoga on North Street. I was greeted at reception by Erin Hiscock, who had advised me what to expect for my first encounter with Red Hot Yoga a few days earlier, and duly I removed my shoes and entered the changing room to get myself ready. This Body Balance-Focused class aims to not only improve your body and balance (obviously), but to also help put aside life’s stresses and relax – even if only for the session’s duration. This couldn’t have been more wrong with me initially, however, with my sole focus more or less: DON’T FAINT. Though, as I began to acclimatise and elegantly raise my leg to an almost (probably) perfect Half Moon Pose (our photographer missed that one), the aforementioned feeling of calmness and
relaxation came over me like the sweat also had over my puffy, purple face. I began to see what these people were talking about. Knotting myself up into unorthodox positions really did take my mind off of everything outside of this one room - plus I was no longer worried about passing out. As time passed, I began to be at one with the session and let what Jane, our instructor, was telling us, really sink in – it became almost hypnotic, which only further enhanced my state of relaxation. Towards the end of the class, my movement became severely lacklustre and the positions I was earlier nailing down to a tee were looking weak and lackadaisical. Jane had previously told me not to push myself to unhealthy levels on my first class. I was out of water and near my breaking point. With this is in mind, I duly slumped onto my mat in a heap with only my own sweat and exhaustion for company. I looked around the other Yogis, some of whom were double my age, as they showed me just how wrong my pre-conceptions of Yoga were. Needless to say, I’m gonna ache. To book your one way ticket to peace and serenity visit www.redhotyoga.co.uk.

THE SURREY HALF MARATHON If you’re not taking part in the Surrey Half Marathon (you better have a good excuse) then the least us Surreyites can do is go down and give the 7,000+ that are doing it a huge cheer. The Surrey Half Marathon route is designed to be spectator friendly, meaning you can cheer your family and friends on (and maybe even get a whiff of sweat as they sprint on past.)
The start and the finish line is Woking Leisure Centre (see map for address). Runners will head into Guildford Town Centre and then back to Woking Leisure Centre. Spectators can keep an eye on certain runners too, by using the new mobile app. Simply search ‘Surrey Half Marathon’ in your app store, download and view maps, track certain runners and much, much more. Please remember to support all runners - not just the ones you know. Everyone will be grateful for a little more encouragement!
Also on show at the Race Village will be live music and entertainment for all ages, plus pop-up food stalls, activities and much more.
A HALF MARATHON IS 13.1 MILES
A total of six live bands were playing along the runner’s route during 2014 - and in 2015, there’s set to be even more, ensuring a great experience for runners, spectators and residents alike.
LAST YEAR OVER 5,400 TOOK PART, WITH OVER 7,000 EXPECTED THIS YEAR
The event village will open at 7am, with the marathon itself not beginning until 9am, giving everyone a chance to calm their nerves and get as much caffeine in them as humanly possible.
