Embraer “Shark” E190-E2 Demo Tour in Maldives Embraer’s E190-E2 Profit Hunter demonstration airplane, with its distinctive shark livery, completed a demo flight at Velana International Airport on 16th March 2019. Potential buyers and prominent airline officials from Maldivian, Flyme and Manta Air took part in the 1-hour demo flight.
The E190-E2 aircraft attracted a lot of attention at the Farnborough airshow in England last year, where the aircraft started the tour, and since then has visited more than 39 countries and was presented to 120 airlines. During the tour, the aircraft has landed at airports with several operational challenges, such as short runways, as in London City, or at runways at high altitudes, as in Tibet and Nepal. In addition, the aircraft visited remote places of the planet, such as Kiribati.
The E-Jets E2 are the most efficient family of aircraft in the single-aisle market burning up to 10% less fuel than its direct competitor. The E190-E2 brings also more flexibility with maximum range of up to 5,300 km or about 1,000 km longer than current generation E190. The E190-E2 also brings significant savings to airlines in terms of maintenance costs, with up to 25% reduction thanks to a smart design based on direct feedback from
the operators. It has the longest maintenance intervals with 10,000 flight hours for basic checks and no calendar limit in typical E-Jets utilization. This means additional 15 days of aircraft utilization in a period of ten years. The company reported taking firm orders and letters of intent for an astounding 300 airplanes valued at $15.3 billion. Embraer is a global company headquartered in Brazil, and a leading manufacturer of commercial jets up
to 150 seats. The Company has 100 customers from all over the world operating the ERJ and E-Jet families of aircraft. For the E-Jets program alone, Embraer has logged more than 1,800 orders and 1,400 deliveries, redefining the traditional concept of regional aircraft. Today, E-Jets are flying in the fleet of 70 customers in 50 countries. The versatile 70-150 seat family is flying with low-cost airlines as well as with regional and mainline carriers.

Floyd Mayweather’s $60 million private jet spotted in Maldives Presence of private jet has fueled speculation that the Retired American boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather is in Maldives for the second time since 2016 The G650ER is distinguished by wide armchairs and spacious aisles, and this feeling of spaciousness is complemented by 16 panoramic Gulfstream windows - larger than any other business jet. They fill the salon and the buffet-kitchen with sunlight.
Pictures of his private jet were posted on Instagram on March 29th while being parked at Velana International Airport. As for the aircraft itself, it is the Gulfstream G650, which costs $60 million, and the flight range is Mach 0.85 or 650 mph (1,050 kilometers per hour).
The cabin of the Gulfstream G650ER is a stunning combination of form and functionality. Flexible interior design and customization options provide owners with control over their own space, be it the need for an individual coupe, a large meeting area or personal work space.
Every two minutes, the interior of the G650ER is filled with absolutely fresh air. And the lowest barometric height in the cabin of the G650ER, comparable only to that of its sister Gulfstream G650, allows the heart and lungs of passengers to saturate the blood with oxygen without effort, reducing fatigue and making them longer and more rested after a long journey. With a flight altitude of 45,000 feet / 13,716 m, the G650ER cabin maintains a barometric altitude of 4,060 feet / 1237 m. This is almost half that of commercial airlines, and significantly better than any other
large-sized aircraft. Mayweather received a new aircraft on his 41st birthday last year and flew around the world, including Hong Kong, Turks and Caicos Islands, Monte Carlo in Monaco, Dubai, Singapore, Bali and Bangkok, according to his stamps on Instagram. He even reportedly flew to Iceland to take a photo on Instagram, and it looks like he did the same in Paris and Russia. A mid-flight view of the board looks pretty amazing, especially with the 50-0 logo on the wing tip, indicating Mayweather’s immaculate boxing record.

Turning around Maldives’ National carrier: An Exclusive Interview with
Mohamed Rizvi
Managing Director of Island Aviation Services Limited
For the Managing Director of Maldives’ National carrier, customer perception is the key in branding. We sat down and asked him about the company’s recent developments and plans for the years to come — Rizvi definitely thinks big.
celebrating 19 years of service
What were your first impressions when you took over Maldivian in December 2018? Having previously served as a Head of Department at Maldivian Holidays, the Travel Bureau of Island Aviation Services Ltd, I am quite familiar with the company culture. In recent years, we have had some expansions; we also have a highly dedicated team with the right people at Maldivian. There is certainly a huge potential for us to channel more of our resources for the wellbeing of the company. What factors do you believe will help you push your plans forward? Customer service and how customers perceive our services are essential for Maldivian and play a crucial role in the company’s ability to retain and maintain them. Therefore, our immediate plan in moving forward is to focus on improving our service, thereby changing the public perception and to further develop the Maldivian brand.
11
VOL 33 | April 2019 | www.theislandchief.com
Have you set new goals for the current phase of your transformation? The transformation phase includes optimizing some of the functions within the departments and provide better infrastructure solutions for the company. As our offices are currently scattered across Male’, we are in the process of integrating all our offices; which we believe will pave an automated work environment for all our employees and also the customers. What changes have you noticed at Maldivian since your term began? In the last few months, I have observed that the public perception has started to shift in the right direction with the changes we have been adapting internally. Keeping in mind that an organization’s key pillars are their dedicated staff and quality in service. Our overall productivity has increased gradually and we still have more to explore. While you are celebrating 19 years of service this year, how many routes do you currently operate and what is unique about the your direct flights from Hanimaadhoo to Trivindrum? As the National carrier we are very proud to say that Maldivian is now flying to 10 international and 10 domestic destinations. We currently operates two weekly flights from Hanimaadhoo to Trivandrum catering mainly for the medical traffic providing our customers a direct flight. Hence, as a national carrier, even if there is one passenger or in case of emergencies, we will attend to them. Moreover, operating this sector opens a direct link for tourists wanting to explore our beautiful Northern Maldives. Maldivian plays an important role in contributing to the economy and flourishing tourism across the country. So, the Tourism and aviation goes hand in hand.
Do you think consumers only choose airlines based on price? This maybe one factor, but consumers also choose airlines based on convenience and frequency. Over time, do you expect we will see low-cost carriers in Maldives? I do not expect to see this happening in domestic sectors for the current market. How will Velana International Aiport’s new Code-F runway impact your operations? This will ease much of the current air traffic congestions and improve the on time arrivals and performance. What is the number one question people ask you? “Why not operate to Europe?” We are a growing airline and at present, there are many challenges to compete with the major Middle Eastern airlines for similar markets. However, our team are evaluating the market feasibility for operations to Europe. What would you like your legacy to be at Maldivian? Prior to my appointment as the Managing Director of Island Aviation Services Ltd, I have played a major role in our China operations and I would like to see a wide body aircraft in the Maldivian fleet and to add more international destinations to our network.
