As we set into the month of June, I reflect back on the last couple of months For some, it was filled with rain showers in April, Storms in May, and finally, as we approach June, we can enjoy the beauty that has come after the storm
In the midst of the storm of life, we often find ourselves sad, confused, and wondering why we must endure so many trials. We might not understand the reasoning in the midst of the storm, but we have a way of seeing the beauty after the storm Rain helps plants grow; rain clears the air around us Whatever you are faced with in your life right now that may compare to a storm, just know that the rainbow is right on the other side of this storm
Your business will sustain this storm
Your best year yet is right on the other side of this storm. You will come out of this storm stronger than ever
Don’t stop in the midst of the storm Keep going to the other side

LOVE YOURSELF THROUGH BOUNDARIES
Written By: Gloria from Amani Upendo WellnessSetting standards is an important tool for self-care or personal growth Boundaries provide structure in our lives and can help us assert our rights and set limits on how much we are willing to give or take from others
You will need discipline because setting and maintaining boundaries can be difficult. It requires you to be assertive and confront people if needed You must think about your own feelings and needs, consider how to diplomatically articulate boundaries, and be willing to stand up for yourself accordingly
The first step to setting boundaries is to know yourself. This is especially useful for navigating relationships with challenging people. Whether it be a relative, neighbor, or colleague, you can help avoid drama and emotional turmoil by standing up for yourself
When you decide to communicate your standards with someone, trying to maintain a professional tone is important. Explain to the other person why it is important to you Ask if they have questions and listen to their response. Another thing, try to remain calm and provide examples to illustrate your position
Of course, it is also important to be flexible and be ready to renegotiate boundaries if necessary Show empathy and understanding and be gracious while demonstrating respect and patience.
At the end of the day, remember that you ’ re allowed to draw your own lines and stick to them You don’t owe people explanations or the chance to negotiate them back with you Trust your gut Stay Pretty!
QUOTE OF THE MONTH

In honor of her late grandmother Olga Rivera, who battled breast cancer, Jasmine has vowed to offer nipple restoration services at no charge to cancer survivors In addition to permanent makeup, Jasmine also offers saline tattoo removal, teeth whitening, hyaluronic lip enhancements, waxing, and advanced esthetics Her esthetic services incorporate an abundance of methods such as Microdermabrasion, LED Light Therapy, Oxygen Therapy, High Frequency, Ultrasonic Exfoliation, and Ultrasound Facial Therapy
Naming each facial after the beloved elder women who helped mold her, Jasmine pays tribute with every client
Having had her share of grief as of late, Jasmine has used that as a tool to look for glory in everything she does As a leader in her community, Jasmine has created two separate curriculums to teach both teeth whitening and permanent makeup. It has always been important to her to be able to give back in such a way that can help empower other women to become their best selves and be their own bosses. Game Glamorous is a growing brand, but its place in the world is undeniable. With God on her side, winning is a guarantee.
Meet Jasmine Rivera
Jasmine Yvette Rivera is a native of Las Vegas, NV Being of Puerto Rican descent, she struggled with her identity as a child because she looked mixed Many of the Hispanic children never wanted to acknowledge her as such because of the texture of her hair and the color of her grandmother’s skin However, she always found her place in the world by being true to herself Jasmine grew up on the East Side, which is not the best area, but it built her character and made her strong
...I recognize that my craft would be stagnant without putting in the work and staying the course
Seeing the possibility of going down the wrong path, Jasmine’s mother, Lilly, and grandmother, Adela, decided to make a change and move her family to a suburb called Green Valley There, her mother and grandmother felt that Jasmine would be able to excel in life They were right As a sophomore in high school, Jasmine was blessed with the opportunity to join a community service organization for young teenage girls advised and created by the women of the Eta Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated
For the remainder of her high school career, Jasmine was instilled with three basic principles: scholarship, public service, and sisterhood With that ethic, she was able to graduate and tap into her creativity
Who is Jasmine Yvette Rivera in five words?
Jasmine Yvette Rivera in 5 words would have to be: Daughter Of The Most High I could use other words to describe myself However, without having my faith as my foundation, I would be none of those things
If you could describe your entrepreneurship and drive in one sentence, what would it be and why?
My elders taught me a saying that says, “No existe gran talento sin gran voluntad,” which in English translates to “There is not great talent without great will.” I would choose that to describe my entrepreneurship and drive because I recognize that my craft would be stagnant without putting in the work and staying the course. My talent would be wasted. I like to think of myself as a woman with great will and drive because of the women who raised me.
How has your background influenced your entrepreneurship journey?
In full disclosure, my life has not always been pretty. I struggled with many things and found myself in very trying situations because of poor choices At a point, I had little to no direction and engaged in worldly things Because of those decisions, I was not taken seriously I was often disrespected and felt the only way to be treated with respect was to apply my fullest potential to everything I did I prayed on it, heard my answer, and put a plan in place
Reflecting on your career, what has been your greatest obstacle thus far?
I am blessed to say that since my grand opening in 2020, business has gradually increased and stabilized my life in a peaceful way
I am still in the same location and comfortable for the time being, so I don’t run into many challenges However, if I have to choose an obstacle, I would say finances People think that entrepreneurs are rich right away We are not We constantly put money back into our businesses until we reach the level we want to reach I am nowhere near the level I’m heading to, as I have great aspirations
What lesson do you take with you everywhere you go?
I have learned that integrity is the base of every successful move I take that lesson and apply it every chance I get in every facet
Tell us about your company, Game Glamourous? Game Glamorous, LLC is a growing brand that aims to help empower clients to feel good in their skin by offering permanent makeup services, saline tattoo removal, hyaluronic lip enhancements, teeth whitening, and esthetics I have been blessed to cultivate great relationships with clients and have since created courses to help others learn teeth whitening and permanent makeup to become their bosses Game Glamorous has also expanded the menu to include laser hair removal and RF Microneedling, which is revolutionizing the world of advanced esthetics
What can women expect when shopping?
Clients can expect to walk out feeling brand new They can expect to get the best service, aftercare kits, and incredible prices
What is the benefit of permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup has many benefits The first one is the freedom from having to apply makeup every day Imagine waking up to your brows already done or not, hassling with getting your eyeliner right every time Permanent makeup can also correct asymmetry, add definition to desired areas and enhance features It is a game changer for people who suffer from hair loss because of alopecia or chemotherapy, have scars from accidents or facial surgery, or want to correct pigmentation irregularities or birthmarks. For elderly clients who no longer have the physical mobility or vision to apply their own makeup, permanent makeup saves the day.
Where do you see your platform in the next 3-5 years?
In the next 3 to 5 years, I see Game Glamorous, LLC having multiple locations creating spaces for others to grow in their crafts and provide services to clients. I have a few motions set in place to grow into a household name, and I am excited to share them as they develop
What advice do you have for the next group of entrepreneurs?
My advice to the next group of entrepreneurs is to do it scared Often times fear can be overwhelming, but fear is of the enemy Continue to plan, pray, research, and go for it You deserve to succeed Turn those fears into fierce You’ve got this!
What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?

SHAVONDA WILLIS
Since she was a child, fashion has always been her passion Since adolescence, she was always the “go-to for styling her friends and family for various events As an adult, Shavonda had difficulties locating quality pieces within a reasonable price range from other brands As a single mom, Shavonda understood what it felt like to not be able to afford what she desired when it came to fashion, but she wanted to look and feel her best Being the godfearing woman that she is, she prayed about it, and God revealed to her that she was to become the missing piece to that puzzle for herself and other women
In 2014, Shavonda took a leap of faith and launched her first fashion venture, We Slay Boutique (WSB), which also stands for women ’ s strength and beauty Faith, family, and fashion are the hallmarks of what We Slay Boutique are built upon Shavonda trusted God and her intentions to create a collection of effortless looks for the modern, chic, working woman Her first collection was an immediate success, and We Slay Boutique was born It flourished beyond her imagination This brand is truly kissed by God
In a world of trends and fast fashion, Shavonda is a gem as she stays true to her commitment to fashion excellence through fabric quality and selection, appropriate stretch and fit fine details, and working with local manufacturers to stay hands on in the creative process.
Her natural eye for beautiful pieces and timeless designs are undisputable and undeniable Women are left feeling timeless, sexy, sassy and inspired Her faith, generous and kind-hearted spirit has created a lasting impression and fostered relationships with her clientele and social media followers
Because of her unique style, people have hired her to become their own personal stylist Shavonda has worked with some of the best in the industry Top stylists, Grammy award-winning singers, actresses, and the list can go on and on Shavonda makes no difference No matter her status, every woman is amazing in her eyes and worthy of being treated as such
We Slay Boutique has been featured in several womens fashion and business blogs Feel free to check out the story
At what moment did you realize fashion was for you? Was it a specific look that you put together and you realized I can do this for the rest of my life?
I cant say it was one particular moment because I love fashion Ever since I was a little girl, I would take my sister and my old pieces that my mom was going to get rid of, and I would make clothing for my baby dolls
Shavonda Yvette Willis is a Los Angeles, California-based fashion and creative enterpriserI learned how to sew by hand from my grandmother; in my eyes, she and my mother were the prettiest women I had ever met, and baby, when they got dressed, they got dressed and outdressed everyone at whatever event they were headed to
How would you describe your creative eye when it comes to fashion?
When it comes to my style, I believe that my creativity stems from not always having money to purchase high end pieces, pieces that I would see in Beverly Hills or on Melrose I would go down there and just window shop sometimes Also, I loved thrift shopping, so I would buy pieces from the thrift store that were “ name brand, then I would pair them with pieces that I would find from Walmart or Target, and I would sit and play with different styles and different patterns Once I felt good about it within my spirit, the look was born I try to think out of the box I like pieces that you don’t see everywhere I’m not one that’s following trends all the time For me, it’s more important to feel good about what you ’ re wearing rather than trying to fit in with others because it’s what they’re doing I say to my clients, Stay true to who you are At the core of your bean, you make the clothing; the clothing does not make you
Tell us about We Slay Boutique. What do you hope women take away from your brand?
When I was sure that I wanted to start my boutique I wasn’t sure of the name It took me a while I prayed about it and asked God to allow me to combine my calling with my passion I know that I am called to the women ’ s ministry
My greatest hope for my boutique is that it represents who I am Once God gave me the name, He revealed to me what it would stand for -- women, strength, and beauty -because he knows my greatest hope is that every woman that purchases a piece from me or come across my boutique always walks away feeling empowered, uplifted and to know that they are seen. That is our gold here at We Slay Boutique
What advice do you have for the upcoming entrepreneurs looking to get their start in the fashion industry?
The advice I would give to anyone daring to step into this industry is to do your research! Make sure it’s what you want to do This is not a get-rich-quick industry Make sure your boutique is built to serve Its not just about selling clothing Its about telling your story throw your clothing
Make sure youre relatable This is not the industry for you if you ’ re not a people person You have to have a heart to serve if you truly want to make it in this business
What is your definition of a pretty woman who hustles?
My definition of a pretty woman who hustles She’s not just pretty on the outside; she’s pretty on the inside She operates from a pure heart, knowing that true beauty starts from within She is willing to give her all to any endeavor she sets out on yet is able to maintain her dignity and class Shes humble and determined

Balancing business and parenting is definitely a task I have three children and three different personalities Their needs override everything, but over the years, Ive stuck to a schedule and enforced it Our mornings typically start at 6am to prepare for school, so working from home allows me to prepare for my work schedule and day around their school hours, and I’m always home in case of emergency I work on my business after my home is quiet and my children are in bed It allows me peace of mind and a great time for concentration

When exactly did you discover your passion for helping women in entrepreneurship?
After owning a Women’s Vertical Pole & Yoga Studio for over 8 years, I grew a huge passion for helping women in general push past their fears and doing things they never thought they could do! I lost around 100 pounds, and sharing my journey with other women helped them along their journey I also believed them because I needed someone to believe in me when I didn’t believe in myself Then I got certified in 2018 from ICF and started my coaching, speaking, and retreat business.
Tell us about your journey on becoming an entrepreneur. Can you reflect on your earliest example of a woman in business?
To be honest, I’ve always been a hustler Back in the day, over 20 years ago (OMG, where did the time go? Lol) when I was running the streets, selling drugs, that’s where my “entrepreneur” journey began! You have to grab my book to read the full story! If you’ve ever seen Harlem Nights, then you know “Vera,” played by Della Reese, was the female entrepreneur I looked up to when I was 18 or 19 years old! We all start somewhere! Lol!
She was big into politics, and I remember watching my grandmother when I was younger (by the way, my grandmother was a 4’11 small Hawaiian/Chinese lady) be in a room filled with predominately white men and speak her mind, and everyone would listen with respect She taught me many skills I’ve used in my entrepreneurial journey From persistence, the power of belief, leadership, public speaking skills, and more I learned from my grandmother
Why do you recommend empowerment coaching to women? What are the benefits?
I recommend empowerment coaching to anyone ready to take their life to a new level but looking for clarity on their next steps. Someone who needs empowerment with setting boundaries with others Someone who needs accountability to follow through on her next steps A lady needs a coach to show them what’s possible for them (sometimes we don’t see the strength others see in us)! Someone who needs empowerment and a confidence boost
What have you found to be one of the main reasons women have difficulty discovering their purpose in life? Because they have joined the rat race of going to work, doing their job, getting a paycheck, paying bills, and doing it all over again the next year. Then we look up 20-30 years later and ask ourselves, “What The Fudge Am I Here For?!”
Tell us about your women’s empowerment retreats?
My Women’s Empowerment Retreats are for women 40+ that are looking to step outside of their comfort zone, try new things, have new conversations with women they might not typically be in the room with, push past a few of their fears, learn new healing techniques all while having fun at the same time! YES, it can be done!
After that, I also knew I wanted to work for myself and make my own money I just didn’t know how I would do it legally SMH It took me years after working on healing myself from the inside out I discovered my true calling of collaborating with other women to heal themselves Who would’ve thought!
How did she impact who you are today?
As far as the woman who taught me my leadership skills, that was my grandmother She always told me, “Be a leader, not a follower ”
There are excursions like ziplining, snorkeling, camel rides, ATVs, visiting the pyramids and different ruins (depending on where we’re visiting), healing with yoga, meditation, journaling, sister circle, and more
What is next for you?
After visiting different countries, I’m looking for land in Jamacia to build my retreat center from the ground up! Soooo excited! I’m also hosting Annually Women’s Empowerment to help empower other women to discover their passion and go after their dreams. At my last conference, I had Lisa Raye as my keynote speaker.
SHE’S CHASING PURPOSE
What advice do you have for new entrepreneurs looking to tap into their passion?
The first piece of advice is, “You should be getting paid the most for what comes the easiest to you!” Before diving deep into your business, ensure you are doing something you love Ask yourself:
What can I do all day and not get paid for?
What have I always naturally liked to do?
What do I want to be known for?
Who do I look up to, and why?
What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?
My definition of Pretty Woman
Whom Hustles is doing what you love and getting paid for it!

When did you realize entrepreneurship, specifically coaching, was a part of your journey?
I grew up in a family that encouraged me to work for others and get good benefits The seeds of entrepreneurship were planted by a sole member that said, Youll never get rich working for others However, I didnt develop knowledge of or a heart for entrepreneurship until my graduate studies at Johns Hopkins University, where I took a course in entrepreneurship as part of the MBA program.
I’ve always provided guidance to others, helped them identify roadblocks, and recommended easy-to-implement solutions that resolved their problems As the facilitator of business networking events, I frequently meet business owners with varying levels of experience Many attendees are looking for software recommendations, ways to improve their marketing and attract more leads, or just a safe place to request guidance What began three years ago as unofficial advice has transitioned into a coaching business that helps entrepreneurs create action plans and strategies to reach their financial goals and scale their businesses
Who do you tribute your success to?
This is a great question I cant attribute my success to only one person I am the result of a supportive network of mentors, associates, and clients Ive had some amazing corporate and entrepreneurial mentors that encouraged me to continue my education and not settle for complacency I’ve been fortunate to have associates who recognized my talent and shared my business with their colleagues The clients that trusted me to eliminate their frustrations and worked with me to transform their business into one that achieves more were truly invaluable
A huge part of your mission is to help entrepreneurs reach their financial goals What can entrepreneurs expect when becoming your client?
G R O W T H A N D G O A L , L L CEmployeepreneurs, business owners working full-time jobs, business owners, and entrepreneurs working with me should expect transformation, not empty promises Everyone that works with me gets clarity We remove the “ mess from their message and highlight their value and the beneficial outcomes their customers will receive Their target audience is attracted to their product or service
They work smarter instead of harder with a customized plan that helps them save time and energy while consistently meeting their income goals, whether that’s making their first $1000 or learning how to build a team that will enable them to reach $1,000,000
What message do you hope your clients take away from their experience with you?
Growth and Goal is a customer-based business I want my clients to walk away from their experience feeling like they have a partner in their business. We’ve all invested in courses and programs that only took our money and left us with more questions than answers My clients know they can come to me with any challenge, big or small, and I will be there to help them find a solution Clients can rely on me to be honest and hold them accountable for actively participating in their journey to success
What advice do you have for new entrepreneurs regarding finances and longevity?
Anyone can start a business, but I want you to remain in business and leave a legacy for your family Use available resources, and don’t think you must “do business alone” There are mentors, coaches, programs, membership communities, and more that serve entrepreneurs with small budgets, large budgets, and no budgets There is no need to struggle or stay stuck when help is simply a phone call away As the African proverb says, “If you want to go fast, go alone If you want to go far, go together”
Where do you see your brand in the next 3-5 years?
In the next 3 to 5 years, Growth & Goal will be a universal business brand While business coaching and consulting will still be the heart of the brand, well have a growing team of coaches and other service providers, such as copywriters and graphic artists Growth and Goal will be a full-service agency that assists our clients with strategic planning and matches them with other trusted service providers, such as grant writers, referral-generating strategic partners, and ad managers
What is your definition of a Pretty Woman Who Hustles?
