CASA BAGLIONI -

Baglioni Hotels & Resorts has officially opened its latest Milanese hotel, Casa Baglioni, in the design district of Brera - an area known as the ‘artists’ district’ for its timeless charm and considered the most beautiful in Milan. The property houses 30 suites and guest rooms, a living area, an impressive wine cellar and a destination restaurant by Michelinstarred Chef Claudio Sadler.

Run for the Hills unveils design of A new ski hotel in the Swiss alps

Award-winning London-based design studio Run for the Hills has completed its first full hotel commission, Faern Arosa Altein. Set in the snow-clad mountains of Switzerland, the team has worked with Faern to redesign the picturesque 126-key hotel. Run for The Hills restored the entrance lobby, concierge desk and breakfast buffet, and designed all its bars, restaurants, common areas and breakout spaces. These include the half-board restaurant, Zus Brasserie, a cosy library cocktail bar, Alchemilla Parlour, as well as the property’s signature Alpensand Panoramic Social Club, a panoramic restaurant and bar located on the fifth floor. The building’s extensive refurbishment included a full renovation of the guest bedrooms and suites, as well as a range of communal areas such as a cinema, games room, kids’ playroom, and meeting space.

A WELLNESS ESCAPE FOR MOUNTAIN LOVERS

Standing on a hillside within the beautiful national park resort of Arosa, the hotel is the brainchild of Faern Resorts, a collection of resorts in the Swiss Alps dedicated to creating high altitude living wellness destinations, with innovative food and beverage concepts in some of the most loved Swiss mountain resorts.

CONTEMPORARY ALPINE

Designed as a sociable haven for guests returning from a busy day on the mountain, the contemporary alpine interiors feature tactile upholstery, sheepskins and cosy woollen armchairs. Tailored mesh panels, ribbed glass column lights and antique brass fittings add an urban twist to the hotel’s modern charm.

BELLE EPOQUE-STYLE CONCIERGE

A Wes Anderson-inspired wooden reception desk nods to the hotel’s heritage and complements the stunning architectural arches within the cosy-chic lounge-lobby hotel foyer. A sweeping dusky marble staircase encourages guests down to explore the hotel’s Zus Brasserie and inviting cocktail bar, Alchemilla Parlour.

DESIGN SCHEMATIC

The interiors palette is grounded in alpine neutrals, forest greens, burnt rusts, and golden sun ochres, warmed with characterful timber furniture and joinery. Tabletops feature light and dark terrazzo stones and berry-red marble swirls. The tailored joinery is softened by fluted banquettes and sofaheight dining set-ups, accessorised with rustic ceramics and scattered Slim Aarons artwork, a nod to the retro village of Arosa.

“The hotel is deeply atmospheric and steeped in history. We felt privileged to fashion its next chapter. Working closely with Faern Resorts CEO Romain Semmel, we developed our interior concept to honour its heritage, whilst also creating a fresh lifestyle escape for the next generation, channelling the spirit of chic millennial high-altitude living,” says Anna Burles, Co-Founder and Creative Director, Run For The Hills.

TIME FOR BED

The hotel’s bedrooms offer a mix of comfort singles, doubles and larger deluxe corner suites for groups and families. Many have spacious balconies, with uninterrupted views over the valley and rooftops of Arosa. Inside, Run for The Hills’ guest room design

concept is unashamedly boutique-inspired. The soft curves of the custom headboards and contemporary joinery styles are punctuated with characterful lamps. The rooms are infused with alpine zig-zag textiles on the armchairs which are paired with statement Swiss green cross woollen bed blankets for extra warmth and cosiness. The suites filled with retro mountain photography, including some from the Slim Aarons vintage collection.

The bathrooms are contemporary chic, featuring black-framed showers and brassware, washstand basin and terrazzo floors. The decorative palette is organic and rich, with a mix of timbers, woven panelling and rich clay paint colours creating a warm, elegant atmosphere. The final palette speaks to the hotel’s setting: timeless tones from nature are accented by textural upholstery and sheepskin balcony seating to create a layered, modern mountain style.

“We created a design language for guest rooms of differing sizes; a suite of joinery designs which could flex for the varying styles and orientations of rooms. Bed sizes and storage solutions may vary, but we looked to connect them with signature features and maximum guest comfort touches, to make each room a relaxing retreat,” says Michael Smith, Associate Creative Director, Run For The Hills

A HAVEN FOR FOODIES

The hotel has several distinct spaces for both dining and drinking, including the stuccoceiling Grand Dining Room Zus Brasserie. Surrounded by large windows, this spacious room provides exquisite mountain and village views. The space is utilised to serve healthy and hearty breakfasts ahead of a day’s skiing, and upon nightfall transforms into a sophisticated restaurant offering candle-lit dinners for half-board guests. Zus Brasserie also offers a wide selection of wines nestled in the softly lit, arched timber and mesh wine cabinet. The nature-

inspired material palette features warm and organic, rich timbers, bouclé and wool upholstery fluted banquette sofas in forest greens, berry reds and bark browns, and structured dining chairs in angled forms and Deco-inspired curves. These are given a contemporary twist with graphic art and mirrors suspended from ironwork rails that reflect the stunning views beyond.

The Rustic Buffet adjoins Zus Brasserie, offering plentiful self-serve cuisine under a statement decorative tree that celebrates the full height of the beautiful arched space, framed by the swirling marble staircase.

PANORAMIC DRINKS & DINING

The hotel’s buzzy après ski rooftop restaurant & bar, Alpensand Panoramic Restaurant & Social Club, boasts breath-taking views of the Swiss Alps; sundrenched by day, twinkling clear views by night. Offering an all-day à la carte menu, the light-filled indoor drinks-anddining space extends out onto a magnificent balcony with uninterrupted views of the valley and village. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a refreshment in the sun, and an unrivalled location for après-ski sundown aperitifs and winter warmer cocktails. Alpensand channels 1970s decor, updated with alpine-inspired wallpapers from Mind The Gap’s TYROL collection, cosy Romo upholstery and a vintage collection of tongue-in-cheek mountain resort artworks by Slim Aarons. These are paired with cushy velvet sofas and deep, comfortable armchairs to provide a great spot to socialise and relax with friends. The bar is designed to host après ski DJ sets to accompany the exquisite cocktails, craft beers, sharing platters, artisan pastries and warming drinks. This space is open to guests and nonresidents alike.

Adapting to the order or to the location

Reconciling contemporary furnishings and quality design with the very specific technical requirements of hotels and other public spaces is the shared objective of the Ligne Roset Contract teams, from the R&D department to the production line, from quality control to planning, whether in London or Paris, New York or Briord.

Manufacturing “tailor-made” products, conceived and designed by designers for unique projects, such is the “trademark” of Ligne Roset Contract, whether it concerns seats, furniture or accessories. And this with the constantly reaffirmed desire to respect the original design, the budgetary constraints of the Project Owner and the requirements of the operator.

To achieve these lofty objectives, Ligne Roset Contract not only benefits from the industrial and logistical support of the Roset Group, but above all has developed a working method based on listening, adaptation, and personalisation. Watchwords that guarantee compliance with the specifications which are necessarily specific to each project, and which apply both to small series and to larger productions.

Ligne Roset head office has been located in Briord, France since 1973. Since then, the site has evolved considerably but the Roset family has always wished to keep the company’s headquarters here, out of loyalty to their family history and to those who participated in the evolution of the company and the region.

Our seats and other pieces of furniture are now produced in the 155,000m² of industrial space represented by our 5 factories located in Ain, Rhone and Isère. We are proud of the fact that our products are made in France.

Since the beginning our dedication to the environment has meant continued improvements across our production in meeting very hight levels of responsible production. In the factory, our production methods make it possible to reduce the quantities of raw materials used, optimising processes in order to increase yield and limit scraps and waste.

“The remarkable site in which the Roset company has evolved since its inception reminds us daily of our duties of eco-citizens. We owe it our upmost respect” Pierre

DRU Polo gas stoves bring warmth and comfort to Cornish hotel suites

Their balanced flue system offers flexibility of installation, as they require no chimney and only need proximity to an outside facing wall. This enables them to be installed in the living space, bedroom or bathroom subject to the design of each individual suite.

The beach lofts were completed in time for Cornwall’s peak 2021 tourist season, which has been hugely successful due to many more people taking their holidays in the UK during the Covid 19 pandemic.

IMPRESSIVE OUTLOOKS AND SUSTAINABILITY

DRU Fires, in partnership with leading Cornwall fireplace dealer Kernow Fires, has supplied five DRU Polo balanced flue gas stoves for the new beach lofts at one of Cornwall’s leading hotels.

Watergate Bay Hotel on the north coast of Cornwall, originally designed to a be a railway terminus hotel, has been developed into an inclusive year-round destination. Its spectacular clifftop setting and location just a short hop from Cornwall Airport Newquay makes it a primary choice for travellers from all corners of the UK and beyond.

The recent closure of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant on the site paved the way for the £1.4 million development of the seven new beach lofts by contractors GSI and interior designers Dynargh Design, right above the beach.

Described as ‘surf-in surf-out’ accommodation, the lofts have floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic sea views. All have been designed to feel like modern city lofts, with warm textures and sustainable materials.

HIGH ENERGY EFFICIENCY

The DRU Polo gas stoves were chosen by Dynargh Design for their contemporary design, fitting in with the overall design and aesthetic of the beach lofts. In addition, they were selected for their A energy rating, 92% efficiency and the convenience of gas with easy remote-control operation. They have allyear-round use and are suitable for chilly autumn days and cool summer evenings.

Kernow Fires owner Simon Breckon commented: “We’re pleased to have contributed to the success of the beach lofts and have seen strong growth in Cornwall’s domestic and commercial fireplace markets this year.”

Watergate Bay Hotel CEO Will Ashworth said: “The beach lofts are our best rooms. They are sized very generously and the interior design represents our new approach to contemporary Cornish beach living.”

Dynargh Design director Matt Hulme said: “The lofts have some of the most impressive outlooks of any hotel in Cornwall. But the interiors also needed to have enough appeal in the winter, when it’s dark at 5pm, that it feels warm, natural and enticing.”

Sustainability was also an important factor in the design. “Getting active in the beautiful natural environment is at the heart of the Watergate Bay experience, and we’re committed to minimising the environmental impact of our design choices,” adds Will Ashworth.

Välinge supplies flooring for fashionable London bar venue

- MARKET HALLS CANARY WHARF -

Valinge Innovation has been causing a stir for the past year in the UK commercial flooring market with its unique hardened wood flooring range. Now it has been specified on a stunning refurb job in Central London, which highlights both the functionality and the outstanding aesthetic qualities of the Välinge range.

Market Halls Canary Wharf is a unique venue in a premium location next to the recently opened Elizabeth Line Station, offering stunning views over the canal and Canary Wharf. Modelled on the vibe of a popular street market, Market Halls features two bars and seven creative kitchens. It is easy therefore to see where the priorities of this venue lie and also appreciate the nature of the clientele – and why the recently completed refurb had to be implemented with only the best materials.

Working with Wood and Beyond, the specialist London-based importers and suppliers of hardwood products, Välinge were able to supply 450m² of hardened wood flooring, which fully meets the requirements of this most discerning of customers. They were looking for maximum durability, in view of the high footfall through Market Halls, a strong position on sustainability and the most aesthetic stylish flooring available.

With its patented technologies of Woodura ® and 5G ® Dry™, the Välinge Flooring brand is fully able to meet all these requirements. Woodura ® technology involves the fusing of a thin sheet of real wood with a wood fibre core through a powder mix layer. Compared to traditional wood flooring, the durability of the wood wear layer is massively increased.

The new hardened wood floors on this project comprised: Oak Nature Earth Grey Lacquered, Oak Nature Misty White Lacquered and Walnut Nature Terra Brown Lacquered – all in XL sizes. The timber comes from sustainable sources with FSC certification, while the unique Woodura ® technology makes the manufacturing process much more efficient and environmentally friendly in terms of timber usage than traditional processes.

The 5G ® Dry™ technology incorporated into the products means that the flooring is impervious to

the kind of spills and splashes which are inevitable in a venue such as this.

Jonathan Sapir from Wood and Beyond says: “This was a great project for us to be involved in and it was a pleasure to match the client’s brief so well with the Välinge products.

“As importers and specialists with 20 years’ experience of premium quality flooring, decking, worktops and accessories – all available from us at competitive prices - we were delighted to be able to play a part in this project.”

Richard Banham, National Key Account Manager at Välinge Innovation UK Ltd, says: “We’ve been introducing the UK market to the superb Välinge product ranges with Woodura ® and 5G ® Dry™ technology and we’ve been getting a great reaction. So it’s an important milestone for us that we have been able to supply product for Market Halls, which is such a landmark project in an iconic Central London location. I am confident that the client and all the patrons of the venue will be absolutely delighted with the result.

The Guggenheim suspension graces this stunningly modern hotel lobby with its architecture-inspired aesthetic. Bold by definition, this piece is made of goldplated brass and clear crystals. It instantly becomes the focus of attention. Furthermore, this lobby is best described for its curved nature and use of rich materials such as marble and brass.

2. Hotel Lobby with Multilayered Features

The concept of modernity is explored to its full potential in this hotel lobby. A combination of marble, brass, and wooden accents makes for an intriguing statement, especially in the accentuated walls and multilayered counter. Outdoors to experience

- PEDRALI -

As spring approaches, the desire to spend time outdoor is growing, even more now that trends are leading us to experience open-air spaces as true extensions of livings.

Enhancing them therefore becomes essential: dehors of bars, hotels and restaurants or domestic spaces such as terraces and gardens must ensure people’s calm and reflect the identity of the place where they are located.

Sofas characterised by soft water-repellent upholstery and hand-woven or made from recycled materials seats are protagonists of Pedrali outdoor comfort, offering design and functional solutions. Collections conceived and produced to provide users’ well-being, defined by excellent technical performances and aesthetics, in a perfect harmony of nuances and materials, thanks also to the choice of refined textured fabrics designed specifically for outdoor use.

Made with high-quality materials, these collections guarantee resistance to different weather conditions, easy cleaning and durability.

An armchair designed for the outdoors, but it is equally suited to any setting for pure relaxation is Lamorisse, designed by CMP Design. Its aluminium frame makes it ideal for a waterfront veranda, shaded outdoor areas, for a poolside table, and even on a ship deck. Its lightweight structure in extruded aluminium, with oval legs welded to round tube armrests, holds a large and enveloping cushion. The main feature of this armchair is the contrast between the sober shape of the supporting frame and the use of a lavish, enveloping cushion.

The seat is supported by elastic belts that offer maximum comfort and strength which almost disappear to focus the attention on the cushion, consisting of multiple sections joined by a zip and folded to create a shell.

Pedrali outdoor sofas create microworlds of comfort en plein air. Reva Cocoon, whose very name evokes a relaxing, dreamy ambience, is charaterised by soft lines and generous sizes. Designed by Patrick Jouin, is a piece of furniture that is highly adaptable and configurable in a variety of ways to ensure maximum comfort and personalisation. The result is a new concept of elegance marked by pure lines and a refined appearance.

The line stands out for its striking backrests in stainless steel woven with rope in weather-resistant polypropylene made 100% in Italy by expert craftsmen. The feeling of envelopment is enhanced by the soft cushions that rest on the structure and are available in different shapes: rectangular, square and round. With its generous volumes and high backrests, Reva Cocoon creates a space within the space, offering protection and shelter from the outside world for those seeking a moment of relaxation and escape.

The woven also defines Babila Twist armchair designed by Odo Fioravanti made of steel and characterised by a large and welcoming shell. Once again, the woven covering the body is made of a flat, weather-resistant polypropylene rope. A comfortable cushion made from dry-feel polyurethane foam that dries quickly, is covered in fabric for outdoor use.

Blurring the lines between art, product and design, every detail of the hotel has been masterminded and designed by lauded Spanish artist-designer Jaime Hayon, from the suites, spa and public Art Gallery right down to the light fittings.

Hayon has created a unique identity for the hotel that is set to inspire, intrigue and excite guests, blending unique interior design with an eclectic collection of paintings, prints, photography, sculptures and tapestry throughout. His vision for art’otel Battersea is inspired by the Power Station’s history and heritage, as well as its future at the centre of a new cultural district and neighbourhood for London.

“I wanted to create a journey for guests and bring a completely new hotel experience to London, one that blends great comfort with a new vision of contemporary creativity,” says Hayon. “Artistic expression is the soul behind the interior design of the hotel. London Battersea Power Station is set to become a new hub for art and creativity, bringing something truly special to this iconic location, and it’s been a true honour to work on this project.”

art’otel’s playful design features, tailor made furniture and works of art designed by Hayon, create a completely unique immersive hotel experience. Guests will feel they’ve entered a living work of art as soon as they step foot through the door; entering into a dreamlike entrance hall that’s inspired by hand drawings and features Hayon’s unmistakable The Dreamer.

Continuing into the hotel, the main lobby is inspired by surreal cubism, featuring an enchanting, wall length cabinet of curiosities – filled with fascinating objects meticulously curated by Hayon from all over the world. From eclectic vases and ceramics

- 26HOTELS & RESORTS

to unique glass objects, the cabinet represents the cultural diversity of the capital city in which art’otel lives. The sensation evoked by the lobby area is tranquil and relaxed, a transition from the hurry of the city into a soothing haven.

Situated within TOZI Grand Cafe, the Art Gallery is a nod to the work of American sculptor Alexander Calder: sculptures hang high above alongside custom made tapestries, filling the drum-like space. A mobile-like chandelier gives the gallery an ethereal and surreal feel.

The exploration of artistic expression continues even in the public bathrooms, which are also dedicated to the theatre experience. Hayon wanted to create a behind the scenes atmosphere as if entering the reinterpretation of an exquisite dressing roomsleek, chic and iconic.

Timeless brass lifts lead to deep green corridors, guiding guests to bedrooms inspired by contemporary expressionism. The design concept for the rooms centres on combining great comfort with fun and boundary-pushing design, with a mix of bold pastels and deep tones that creates a lively yet restful environment. Playful luxury is the core sensation Hayon aims to evoke with the guestroom experience.

Jaime Hayon has won numerous awards, including multiple ELLE Decoration International Design Awards, included by Wallpaper* Magazine in its top 100 list and recognised by the magazine as one of the most influential creators of the last decade, lauded as a “visionary” and one of the most creative icons by Times magazine.

Not only home to Hayon’s artwork, art’otel London Battersea Power Station plays host to an everchanging calendar of exhibitions and experiences, encouraging guests to surround themselves with the

creativity and inspiration of each artist. Covering all areas and genres, art’otel aims to be accessible to all, regularly featuring up and coming artists. To find out about the art and design within art’otel, guests can ask one of the art’otel team for a guided tour during their stay, or simply download the art’otel WONDERPASS to explore each piece of art.

art’otel London Battersea Power Station officially opens on 21st February, bringing a bold new energy to the groundbreaking Battersea Power Station neighbourhood. The hotel is managed by Park Plaza Hotels under its art’otel brand and, in addition to an immersive world of art, guests are invited to discover the hotel’s instantly recognisable heated rooftop infinity pool and hot tub, offering jaw-dropping views of the Power Station and beyond. The ultimate spot to watch the sunrise over the city, guests can soak up the rays or sip on a cocktail from the rooftop bar as the sun goes down. Guests can also head down to art’otel’s spa to enjoy indulgent treatments by Proverb plus a sauna, steam room and state of the art gym.

art’otel London Battersea Power Station is also home to JOIA, headed up by Michelin-starred Portuguese chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, with the restaurant showcasing Henrique’s vibrant, unique, and fresh take on traditional plates using the best of British and Iberian produce. Rafael Cagali’s new restaurant is now open - ELIS -

Rafael Cagali - chef and owner of two Michelin starred Da Terra - has just opened the doors of his new restaurant Elis. A tribute to his mother, whose first restaurant and jazz bar in São Paulo was named after famed Brazilian musician, Elis Regina. Rafael will be taking over the space that used to house the Corner Room, set within the historic Town Hall Hotel. Elis is a more relaxed interpretation of Rafael’s Brazilian-Italian heritage, serving an a la carte menu and wines from the Keeling Andrew & Co.

Starting with an in-house bread selection and snacks including porchetta tonnato, bolinho de bacalhau, panzanella and churros pecorino, the menu will follow into pasta dishes like short rib pappardelle, crab linguini verge, before moving into larger dishes to share such as baby monkfish tail with black tucupi glaze and aubergine parmigiana. The wine list will be a concise selection of 10-12 bottles highlighted at any given time, with 5-6 wines by the glass.

- 32RESTAURANTS

Elegant and dynamic, Elis is an intimate space for around 30 people set within the historic Town Hall Hotel, with bespoke design elements in collaboration with Studio Nathan Miller.

- 33RESTAURANTS

A few words from Rafael:

Elis is inspired by my mother and childhood and we will be serving more rustic dishes, with a selection of elegant snacks and good wines. I have wanted to explore some of the more relaxed elements of Brazilian and Italian food culture for some time; drawing on everything from my favourite street food to family meal celebration dishes that my grandma used to make.

limited edition expressions

- ABERFELDY -

ABERFELDY have released two new limited edition expressions in their Aberfeldy Red Wine Cask Collection; ABERFELDY 15 Year Old finished in Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks from Napa Valley, and ABERFELDY 18 Year Old finished in Tuscan red wine casks from Bolgheri, available on shop.dewars.com.

The ABERFELDY Limited Edition series is meticulously crafted by Malt Master, Stephanie Macleod. Being highly accomplished in the sensory analyses of whisky, this collection was born through Stephanie’s inherent passion for maturation and flavour development. Inspired by her adoration of fine wine, Stephanie began the exploration of how flavours from red wine casks interact with and elevate Aberfeldy’s aged malt. Painstakingly nosing each cask to monitor maturation and flavour development within the Aberfeldy inventory, the use of Stephanie’s sensory skills ensures that every whisky has been expertly finished, is flavoursome, balanced, and brimming with distillery character.

The first Single Malt in the collection was launched in 2019. Finished in Pomerol wine casks, the inaugural expression started Aberfeldy’s journey into French red wine; and the four subsequent bottlings further explored the famous reds of the esteemed Bordeaux and Rhone wine appellations. Evolving to include red wines from further afield, the newest bottlings to be released widen the collection’s offering to

encompass cask finishes from both an Old World wine and a New World wine.

Stephanie has chosen to finish a 15-year-old Aberfeldy with a Californian red from the famed Napa Valley, alongside an 18-year-old finished with a Tuscan red from Bolgheri, the birthplace of the first Super Tuscan wine.

ABERFELDY 15 Years Old Limited Edition is first matured in a combination of refill casks, and then finished in ex-Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Barriques, sourced from the world-famous Napa Valley, California’s best known wine-producing region.

ABERFELDY 18 Years Old Limited Edition is first matured in a combination of refill casks, and then finished in ex-Tuscan Red Wine Barriques, sourced from Bolgheri in Italy. This Italian wine producing region of Tuscany is best known for Chianti, but Bolgheri, a relatively young yet prestigious Italian appellation, boasts being the birthplace of the first Super Tuscan wine, made with a Cabernet Sauvignon base.

Both expressions are bottled at 43% ABV with limited availability from Dewar’s Aberfeldy Distillery’s online shop, shop.dewars.com

Rhubarb hospitality collection announces new opening

- LARCH -

Rhubarb Hospitality Collection, the premium international hospitality group, has announced the opening of Larch, its new Italian restaurant and café concept located in the heart of the city, at 1 Sky Garden Walk.

Located opposite, and part of Sky Garden, Larch opened this week and joins Rhubarb’s portfolio of bars and two restaurants within London’s highest public garden.

On the ground floor, Larch houses an informal café serving coffees, freshly prepared sandwiches and pastries alongside a boutique store retailing a carefully curated range of gardening paraphernalia and books, souvenirs, gifts and illustrations.

Lucent Lighting Illuminates Metropolitan Fine Dining at DAV Restaurant, Allianz Tower, Milan

Designed by architects Andrea Maffei and Arata Isozaki, the Allianz Tower in Milan is the tallest building in Italy. This 50-floor tower is part of the Citylife complex of skyscrapers and residences. The first floor of this remarkable tower is the host of the Da Vittorio restaurant in the new DAV formula, designed for a younger and more metropolitan audience. This fine dining experience hosts a reception cocktail bar, a main restaurant area, and an external terrace overlooking the square and the two surrounding towers.

The key aim of the lighting is to amplify the appearance of the Michelin Star venue, creating a stylish yet comfortable atmosphere which complements the stunning surrounding views. Architect Andrea Maffei worked with lighting designer Studio Voltaire to achieve this design concept. Studio Voltaire collaborated with Arkilux, who specified Lucent Lighting’s Gimbal product range for this project.

All the architectural spaces have been designed with the same finishes so as not to separate the rooms, but to give the impression of a single fluid space that follows the customer up to the table. The lighting from above emphasises the geometric shadows and reflections of the wooden panel pyramids, creating an interesting effect on the walls.

The ceiling design follows the façade fixtures with long, grey wooden slats. The slats are doubled where the adjustable spotlights are placed, to create concentrated lighting on the tables. Lucent’s Gimbal downlights have a fully directional head which is adjustable to 35 degrees with tapered anti-glare and minimal overlap trim for finished ceilings, to blend seamlessly into the design. The lighting is focused on the walls and tables to create a softer and more metropolitan setting, highlighting what is on display rather than creating a uniform effect throughout the room. The Gimbal downlights allow the design to highlight the tables without producing any glare or light spillage onto guests, ensuring a comfortable experience.

Lighting also accentuates the focus of the bar area, backlighting sophisticated bottles of champagne and illuminating the seating area to encourage guests to approach. This cool light is in contrast to the warm façade and dining lighting, to capture the smooth surfaces of the bar.

Minimal fixtures on the terrace work with the natural light to transform from vibrant daytime dining surrounded by greenery to a sophisticated ambience during the evening for cocktails and a stunning view of Milan.

Personalise plug and play - WELCOME A NEW GENERATION OF CONNECTIVITY -

A minor change in behaviour, norms or requirements sparks a series of chain guest experience.

In a constantly-evolving world, guests are looking to be catered to in new and innovative ways, from increased personalisation to having their needs anticipated before they arrive. This has been amplified by the post-pandemic climate which has birthed a new generation of travellers from bleisure (business & leisure) to digital nomads.

Although integrations such as flexible working spaces, hubs with glorious views and curated itineraries have been introduced at many hotels, there is one consideration which is undoubtedly the key to unlocking and elevating the guest experience for all…technology. For visitors, there is an insatiable appetite to remain connected even whilst disconnecting from familiar surroundings. A true sense of a home-away-from-home comes from the seamless integration of life at home to life in a hotel -that is the true guest journey embodied. Something as simple as guests being able to pick up where they left off on their favourite show whilst engulfed in the comforting smell of freshly-washed linen goes a long way in elevating a precious stay. In fact, a guest survey indicated they wanted in-

room technology that could be integrated with their personal devices.

With technology continuously updating it can be difficult to keep up with the guests’ devices, the ports they require and their core needs. However, there is a straightforward yet incredibly effective solution, the MediaHub USB-C. Boasting a priceless HDMI port, guests can convert their room into their own personal cinema by mirroring their favourite shows and films straight from their personal devices. In other words, wave goodbye to the hassle of relying on streaming providers.

Available in a range of trims including a chic SoftTouch black, crisp white, premium-finish brass and glistening silver, it is outrageously effortless to integrate into any room.

Simple but effective solutions are unquestionably the way forward. With the evolution of technology, greater emphasis on sustainability and the way people travel changing at the speed of light, these handy all in one problem solvers are likely to become an essential component of remaining industry leaders in guest experience which is ultimately what drives the hospitality world. The Personal Factor - CLARITY HOSPITALITY -

From the beginning Clarity was built on personalised service. 25 years later in 2023, that’s why we’re gearing up our teams once again.

We commonly hear feedback from customers who have had other systems about how difficult it is to get Support, or their configuration doesn’t work for them, or they haven’t been trained how to use the system, or they’re faced with massive module costs to add a simple feature they want unlocked, or they have to pay for version upgrades. In almost every case the consistent complaint is that there’s no-one to connect with to sort these issues out.

It’s easy to supply a system that does the core things well, but our systems are built on what our customers have asked us for – personally. Every hotel has its preferences and uniques, so we take on-board the things that make our customer’s tasks easy. If we don’t have something, we will also undertake changes to our software that you’ve requested – although that usually does take time.

Talking through the options initially gives us a good introduction to how you operate in your business. Once we know that we shape the configuration, fine tune it with you and we’ll be there when you go live. And if things change in

your business, we’ll do it again, and again, and again...

And we’ll train you on how to use it. In person on-site, remotely, at your own pace or at ours – whatever works for you. Then there’s our online Knowledge Base to refresh what you know, answer quick questions, update you with new features, keep your staff up to date when you’re ready.

If you have a problem or a question, we’re there for you. Not some foreign call centre, but our own staff, 24 x7, just a phone call away. With direct knowledge of your system, your configuration, your business. And usually, it will be someone from our team who you know personally.

You’ll know them personally because we take pride in visiting our customers, knowing your setup, knowing you, being right there hands-on when your system goes in, and again when you’re trained, and when you need something unique or special, and when things change.

These are the reasons our business grows by referral more than any other type of marketing. These are the reasons the few customers who leave us frequently return. That and outstandingly good software systems that work for you.

latest breakthrough in hotel software technology. The human.

Making the decision to change your property’s software is stressful enough without the thought of dealing with third party support call centres or costly upgrades. That’s why when you change your PMS to Clarity, you not only get all our features and modules included, you get our local humans too.

That means a local support team 24/7, a dedicated account manager, and an onsite trainer to help your team face-to-face.

Because we know hotel software is only as good as the humans behind it.

New for 2023: Equitherapy - SELMAN MARRAKECH -

The timeless palace setting of Selman Marrakech is dedicated to arguably the most beautiful breed of horses in the world, the Arabian. New for 2023, Selman invites guests to live a unique experience through a personal development workshop where the horse acts as a companion to psychological and spiritual development, thanks to its ability to connect with humans.

The concept of ‘Equitherapy’ offers you the power to find your true nature through the teachings of the horse. Learn to live in harmony with nature and animals, but above all with yourself. Reconnect to your true nature, with the horse acting as a mirror to your soul. Be guided by this powerful, yet at the same time fragile, animal who will accompany you and lead you to understand your inner workings. This experience occurs at a cognitive level, but also at a sensory, emotional, motor and social level.

Equitherapy is known to help overcome anxieties, lack of confidence and can help with stress management and emotional control. The horse acts as a catalyst for development opportunities which can be transferred to everyday life.

The session will take place in a paddock with the horse, accompanied by a guide. The nature of the horse will be explained and some guidance on how to behave with a horse. The session will involve gaining the horse’s attention, building a relationship of trust with the horse, learning how to control yourself, your feelings and your stress in front of the horse amongst other activities.

A guided meditation will complete the equitherapy session, further enhancing relaxation, wellbeing and confidence.

Equitherapy takes place on foot, and no previous knowledge of horses or riding is needed.

£104pp (1300 MAD) for a 45 Equitherapy minute session

The Churchill appoints new executive chef, Carlo Alberto Martino - HYATT REGENCY

Five-star Marylebone hotel, Hyatt Regency LondonThe Churchill is delighted to announce the appointment of Carlo Alberto Martino as its new Executive Chef.

Working with the Hyatt brand for over a decade, Carlo joined the hotel group in 2011 as Chef de Partie at Park Hyatt Dubai. In 2013, Carlo relocated to London and took the role of Chef de Partie\Step in Sous Chef at The Churchill, where he quickly climbed the ranks, achieving Executive Sous Chef in 2021.

During his nine years at The Churchill, Carlo has ensured the smooth running of service at The Montagu Kitchen & Lounge, from training junior staff members and holding meetings with Artisan suppliers to assisting with crafting new and innovative menus. His key successes include repositioning the outlet as a separate entity in the hospitality market, redesigning the kitchen with the previous Executive Chef, and developing an iconic British menu, focusing on local flavours inspired by the background story of Sir Winston Churchill.

Carlo said of his new role, overseeing all culinary operations within the hotel, “I am very proud and excited to take on the role of Executive Chef at The Churchill. I have dedicated many years of my career to the Hyatt brand and this iconic hotel steeped in heritage and authentic British charm. Alongside the incredible team, I look forward to positively contributing to the continued success of all the hotel’s food and beverage offerings, crafting new, exciting menus, and driving sustainability initiatives.”

One of Carlo’s mandates is to ensure the success of award-winning The Churchill Bar & Terrace, by developing creative menus that align with the venue’s extensive beverage offering and complements the bar’s unique, year-round outdoor terrace experience.

Following the recent refurbishment of the hotel’s Banqueting & Events spaces, Carlo and his team aim to position the hotel as a leading Banqueting & Events venue in London, for both intimate and larger events, by crafting new, exciting banqueting menus, which will highlight the team’s strengths and diverse backgrounds, while ensuring they still embrace the British culinary spirit. Additionally, he is exploring new partnerships with key associations, such as the international gastronomic society, Confrérie de la Chaîne des Rôtisseurs, which works to bring together enthusiasts of the culinary arts across various events and competitions.

As Executive Chef, Carlo would like to focus more strongly on sustainability across all culinary operations at the hotel by continuing to find new ways to operate moreefficiently, reduce food waste, and work more closely with local suppliers wherever possible.

As part of this activity, he plans to organise various field trips with his team of chefs to meet key meat, fish and vegetable suppliers regularly to ensure that the highest quality standards are maintained throughout the entire supply chain. The Churchill already delivers many initiatives to help reduce food waste, such as using products that would have usually been discarded to create delicious extra flavours and textures on the menu. For example, apple peels are now used to create crisps for a new dish.

Developing a wealth of experience in his field of culinary arts, Carlo firstly specialised in pastry and baking until earning a degree at Albert Einstein Loreto, Italy, andsecuring his first Head Chef position at Spirito Libero and Spirito Libero mare in Senigallia, Italy, in 2008.

ADA Cosmetics wants to help hotels and travelers make “conscious choices, trip by trip.” THINK, ACT & LIVE RESPONSIBLE body care by ADA Cosmetics promotes environmental consciousness throughout the world. The product line also includes a wide assortment of green accessories

ADA Cosmetics presents its twicecertified body care collection

Saving resources and the environment: More and more people are actively contributing to this goal with their behavior – both at home and at work or while traveling. ADA Cosmetics has just introduced one of its most sustainable body care lines yet to the market to support hotels and their guests in their efforts to protect the environment and to reduce its own environmental footprint at the same time. The ‘Think, Act & Live Responsible’ collection developed by this leading hotel cosmetics company is the first to simultaneously receive both the renowned Ecocert COSMOS Organic and the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.

Body care: naturally vegan

For cosmetics products to earn both the Ecocert COSMOS Organic and the Nordic Swan seals, they must meet a variety of extremely high requirements in terms of both quality and the environment. Therefore, not only do more than 98 percent of the raw materials used for the Think, Act & Live Responsible product line have a natural origin, at least 10 percent of these are, in fact, organically cultivated. The vegan product formula with biodegradable tensides is also free of microplastics, parabens, paraffins, silicones, and SLS/SLES. It pampers guests with aloe vera, well-known for its moisturizing effect, and refreshes the senses with a subtle aquatic fragrance that blossoms on the skin with fine accords of aloe and cucumber and woodyspicy base notes.

The dispenser: recyclable with a clear message

The new body care line, which comprises shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, hand & body lotion, and

liquid soap, is available exclusively in recyclable dispensers, both in ADA’s bestselling 100 percent hygienic, closed SMART CARE system and in refillable pump dispensers. Even the new product line’s name with its eye-catching design sends a clear and important message.

“Content, packaging, message – the entire package makes Think, Act & Live Responsible a most notable collection that we are very proud of,” says Anja Fernandez, Director Global Brand Marketing at ADA. “It supports and encourages its users every day to effect a change in the world. Furthermore, hotels can proudly manifest their commitment to environmental protection.”

An entirely green product line: from packaging to accessories

The new Think, Act & Live Responsible body care products are available immediately. They supplement the green accessories line of the same name, which has enjoyed enormous success on the market for the past three years. Here too, ADA Cosmetics complies with strict sustainability principles by consistently using durable, natural, and reusable materials such as bamboo fibers, organic cotton, and bioplastics made of corn starch. Product offerings include popular accessories such as combs, nail files, slippers, and sewing kits.

Coming to the neighbourhood

Knoops, the popular British brand that is revolutionising chocolate drinks with its unique and completely customisable chocolate percentage menu, is opening its latest store in upscale Knightsbridge.

Opening on the 3rd March 2023, the shop is located at 130 Brompton Road, on the corner of Montpelier Street. Close to the iconic Harrod’s, the luxury chocolate drinks store will be a welcome addition to the desirable shopping area – offering a pit stop for thirsty shoppers or an early evening date spot for chocolate lovers.

The brand already boasts a legion of cocoa-loving fans across the four existing London neighbourhood haunts - Kensington, Chelsea, Richmond and Covent Garden. The new location, surrounded by grand homes and leafy garden squares, will give Knoops novices and visitors the chance to delve into the wonderful world of Knoopology.

Knoopology is the ultimate personalisation process and is a four-step method. Individuals choose their preferred hot or cold drink followed by their chocolate percentage, then their milk, before finally enhancing their beverage with flavoursome add-ons. The drink is poured out as a smooth hot chocolate, or over cold milk and ice for an iced chocolate. On warmer days, the drink can be blended with ice cream for a deliciously thick milkshake – perfect for walks in Hyde Park.

Known as one the most popular neighbourhoods in London for high-end shopping, Knightsbridge is also one of the most desirable residential locations in Central London. Attracting tourists, millennials and wealthy residents, the offering will also appeal to the large and growing demographic, who are turning away from alcohol, and are looking for alternative refreshments.

The opening marks the latest forward step in Knoops’ ambitious expansion plans following recent openings in Cambridge and Oxford, with the brand’s first Northern England store in Manchester set to open in early April. Knoops is led by international chocolatier Jens Knoop, who founded his brand on the original concept of Knoopology: the art of crafting the perfect chocolate drink.

Visitors can choose from the full range of chocolate percentages for their bespoke hot or cold chocolate

experience. There are 20 different types to select, from a sweet, creamy 28% White all the way up to the deep, rich cocoa flavour of the 100% Extra Dark from the Solomon Islands. Knoops also has a diverse plant-based offering. All of the chocolates that are 54 percent and over are suitable for vegans and there are also six non-dairy milks available

Passers-by can also purchase gifts and keepsakes from the store, including the pioneering cookbook, Knoops - Chocolate recipes through the day. Knoops Knightsbridge is destined to lure in shoppers over busy gifting periods such as Valentine’s Day, Easter and Christmas.

Save water & reduce energy costs

Now is the time to look at the amount of warm water running through our business with a view to reducing usage to save both energy and money.

Neoperl UK is a manufacturer of water stream devices and flow regulators. They are precisionmade devices that can be inserted at the end of a tap spout or upstream of a shower outlet, to reduce and regulate the water flow without reducing performance.

As water pressure fluctuates throughout the country, it’s impossible to produce a tap or valve shower to work with the same efficiency in every commercial kitchen or hotel bedroom. Manufacturers therefore produce new taps and shower heads with optimal performance to work their best across all pressure situations. Now the flow can be tailored to a situation by retrofitting aerators and flow regulators to save water. There’s no point in having a strong flow rate if the tap is onl y used for washing teeth and hands or to have a shower that literally splashes out of the enclosure. These retrofit products allow the performance to be checked on site and adjusted to suit, ensuring a comfortable and suitable flow is reached. This is particularly important where rows of washbasins or multiple showers are prevalent. A Pressure Compensating Aerator (PCA) or flow

regulator will help distribute the water more evenly throughout the building to mitigate flow issues from the effects of pressure fluctuations.

SHOWER FLOW CONTROL

A standard European shower head will produce around 18 litres of water per minute at 3 bar of pressure. A flow regulator like these could reduce this to a comfortable flow and dependant on the specified flow rate, save thousands of litres of water per year.

BATHROOM TAP PRESSURE COMPENSATING AERATORS (PCA’s)

It’s a 5-minute job to replace an incumbent anticlogging or stream control device with a flow regulator. They are also available with ‘smart limescale clean’ nozzles to prevent limescale build up too. In a hotel bedroom where the tap is simply used for washing hands and cleaning teeth reducing the flow can save many litres of heated water.

KITCHEN TAPS TOO

There are now retrofittable aerators that can be switched from a standard water saving flow to full capacity in an instant allowing the tap to be on eco-mode for general use but boosted to a fuller flow when required.
