Botanist Restaurant to Open its Doors in Vancouver, BC Fairmont Pacific Rim Botanist, Vancouver’s highly anticipated new restaurant inside Fairmont Pacific Rim, officially opened on Monday, April 24, 2017, beginning with breakfast service.

The restaurant will present a collection of four diverse spaces -a dining room, cocktail bar and lab, garden, and a champagne lounge.

Executive Chef Hector Laguna’s menu depicts the culinary abundance of the region - produce rooted from the soil of the northwest, sustainably sourced seafood; and organic agricultural methods from

backyard suppliers. Signature items include root vegetables, oven-roasted halibut with spring vegetables and crab emulsion, and herb crusted lamb rack with green garlic panisse, fava and shallots. The menu is accompanied by wine director Jill Spoor’s boutique terroir-driven wine program that supports sustainable, organic and biodynamic farming and winemaking practices.

Designed by award-winning Ste. Marie Design with brand and identity developed by Glasfurd & Walker, the collection of venues begins with the Champagne

Lounge. Overlooking The Lobby Lounge on the second floor, it’s surrounded by glass and planters filled with greenery indigenous to British Columbia. The Champagne Lounge is open daily from 4:00pm and offers global sparkling wines and exclusive and rare offerings from both Champagne and internationally, complemented by a menu of small plates including oysters, caviar, seasonal crudités, and local artisanal cheese platters.

by Grant Sceney, the hotel’s creative beverage director, and David Wolowidnyk, Botanist head bartender, the international award-winning duo created a list of whimsical yet sophisticated cocktails. The elevated beverage experience is enhanced by the Cocktail Lab with commercial kitchen elements such as a centrifuge, band saw, and roto-vaporizer. Select libations give a nod to its chemistry inspired roots and botanical background. The Deep Cove for example uses Island Gin, sea buckthorn, and blue algae and is served in a bespoke glass molded onto a log of driftwood.

The adjacent Garden invites guests to linger in a glasswalled space filled with greenery, a trellis and more than 50 different types of plant species that include rare fruit bushes, and edible species such as green tea camellia, cardamom and ginger.

The sensory experience culminates in the Dining Room, a place intended to be active and engaging morning to night. A mixture of various limestone, whitewashed woods and ornate metalwork sets its foundation with pops of plant material found throughout. The layout invites guests to engage with one another, best illustrated by a series of tables that connect via a flowing ‘S’ curve banquette. The private dining room, with seating for 20 maintains interplay with the main room through its glass doors.

Located at 1038 Canada Place, the dining room and garden will be open seven days per week for breakfast, lunch and dinner service, and the bar opens daily from 11:00am. Reservations can be made by visiting the website at botanistrestaurant.com or calling 604-695-5500.

The Wine Ayutthaya Bangkok Project Studio Situated on a bank of the Chao Phraya River in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, The Wine Ayutthaya is a new leisure place for wine drinkers. The building was constructed to become a new tourist attraction in hopes of stimulating the economy of local communities surrounding this world heritage site, which was the capital city of Thailand 400 years ago. The building is a product of architectural creativity and environmental context molded into a magnet for tourists.

A single story building blends in with existing large trees with carefully designed landscape. The building is 9 meters in height and 11 meters equally in width and length made entirely from steel-reinforced plywood. The interior of the wine house is divided into 4 platforms, each with its own height that serves as a vantage point for visitors to absorb the beautiful view of the river from different angles, contrasting the interior with the exterior spaces. There are 5 sets of spiral stairs attached to each platforms. The ground floor is occupied by a wine bar, and seats are placed between the staircases. The platforms and staircases are scenic viewpoints.

Acoulite Completes on Siddartha Lounge by Buddha Bar Acoulite completed lighting installation for Siddartha Lounge by Buddah Bar. The project had a build programme of around 12 weeks completing back in November 2016.

Siddartha Lounge by Buddha Bar is an iconic restaurant, lounge and pool bar located in Grosvenor House hotel in Dubai Marina. In late 2016, they appointed LW Design to give the lighting and interiors a fresh urban revamp.

Acoulite worked closely with LW’s interior and Lighting Design team to assist with the specification and supply of all architectural and decorative lighting on the project, including unique custom made pendant luminaires, and a complete Lighting Controls solution to enable dynamic scene setting. Kuanzhai Alley is integrated with present and past of Chengdu. The concept is to transfer the hotel into a modern art gallery. To make people see the history of this area, we let them to walk into the art show.”

Outside the window, green bamboo was also plant to shelter the view to the parking lot. When the sun goes in through the green bamboo leaves, it brings a sense of freshness and delight to the monotone contemporary gallery.

The designer does want to avoid the heavy atmosphere that old stuff would bring up; instead of it the designer decorated the historical objects as art pieces in the hotel. When you walk in hotel, you sense Kuanzhai Alley’s present and past, see the mixture of old and new artwork and the accommodation experience is a contemporary art sensory journey

About Chu Chih-Kang The name Chu Chih-Kang had been internationally renowned in 2015. He has won more than 10 most authoritative design awards from German, Japan, Hong Kong, America and Mainland China, including German Design Award and ICONIC AWARDS issued by German Design Council.

In 2016, Chu Chih-Kang was invited by GAA to display his new conceptual design Mountain Water in Parallel Show “Time Space Existence” of La Biennale di Venezia 2016.

Treves & Hyde Grzywinski+Pons Treves & Hyde is a new restaurant and bar that we designed near Whitechapel in East London. The environment is also intended to accommodate both formal and casual occupation, staying open for interstitial use between meal service. It was also important to us and our client that the space could function without compromise from early morning through late night while maintaining its functional variability. So we provided ample and flexible seating, power points and areas geared equally towards both privacy and the happenstance run-ins increasingly found in modern workspaces or a cafe. We postulated that while guests might feel comfortable working or socializing in a space seemingly appropriate for dining, they could feel less at ease dining in an environment geared towards co-working. Accordingly the aesthetic typology is unabashedly that of a restaurant.

The space is heavily glazed and washed in sunlight throughout the day so we were conscious of creating texture and relief in many of the surfaces while mixing materials with a sheen or luster and those that were soft and matte to augment the kinetic quality of the light while providing comfort. We designed the restaurant to be as warm, welcoming and happy (and even appetizing) at night as it is during the day, and

created the joinery and furnishings to look better with some wear and tear after heavy use. Natural stone, ceramic, brass, timber, concrete and blackened steel feature heavily in a bold but limited palette and we designed in a lot of room to accommodate generous amounts of vegetation in aged terra cotta.

Perro Libre Tap Room Tellini Vontobel Arquitetura Perro Libre produce craft beers and have called us to create an innovative design with a system of 10 taps integrated with ipads and card reader. The customer arrives, checks in and credits a value, thereby releasing the chopp taps.

The concept we created was to make a cool space, creative and different. The challenge was to design a place for the chopp barrels. We had the idea of ​​ showing, inside a super stainless steel freezer, with

glass doors and internal lighting.

All furniture, except the internal banquettes, was designed by us. We mix stainless steel with plywood, and black metallic structures. To create a warmth with the right foot, we created a system of metal beams to support the industrial luminaires and focal black spots. The walls are covered with 20x20 white tile from Eliane, so we can integrate the kitchen part with the taps.

In the kitchen area, we use those ancient menus, of plastic letters. The staff of the Perro asked us for a place to sell products (shirts, glasses). So we created a pine frame with glass for the T-shirts and shelves at the bottom of the counter for the other items. In the outdoor area, with deck, we created a furniture, also of pine, in a style of stacked cubes, and we draw loose benches. To give safety, we put a black metal structure leaked on the side to climb creepers. On the front, Texas grass was used.

The Standard Café

The Standard Café Materiality of the 4th Wave Café Jean de Lessard - Designers Créatifs has designed for Westmount’s café The Standard, a space of symmetry where the minimalistic narrative blends in subtly with the sophisticated look of a period café, thus redefining the codes of such a venue where varieties of Grand Cru coffee and gourmet pastries are served.

In this deep ebony shell at the heart of which stark lighting enhances the luster of brass, the interior design firm wanted to shake the prevailing order a bit; the slight displacement of the imposing white quartz worktop, a strong element in the project, thus gives rhythm to this refined place smoothly.

After an intense drawing phase, as a result, the design is focused on the straight line, the balance of proportions and the alignment of the architectural elements with the brass finish wall profiles. These profiles are creating the illusion of wainscoting and the false beams of the ceiling, that of caissons. Such a subterfuge brings a sense of spaciousness and classicism to the small café. Positioning of the custom furniture including the seemingly free-floating pastry showcase is keeping with the notions of horizontality and verticality. There is also similarity in the degree of angularity that both the armrests of the armchairs and the coffee tables present. For an even more stylish effect, a pony hair-like fabric has been mixed with the ever classic herringbone pattern of the fabric on the low-legged armchairs and that of the hickory floor.

OPTIMISE SHARE OF £14BILLION MARKET Under British Standards(1), many hotels are failing in their access provision. Yet making just one bedroom accessible opens a venue’s doors to a greater share of 20% of overnight trips.

New and recent Regulations, Parliamentary committee reports and “ best practice” guidelines mean there is greater public awareness on the need to improve access for disabled people and their families, carers. Kane World Food Studio Bogdan Ciocodeic Located in an upcoming neighborhood of the city, the restaurant aims to be a landmark for the regeneration of the old distressed urban tissue. It’s approach is simple and clear, using natural materials and mixing them with the abundant greenery. Both architect and client agreed upon using design as a tool for reaching a particular atmosphere rather than aiming to enhance a certain type of image.

The space is designed as an urban oasis, a lush jungle enclosed in a concrete and steel frame. The green, vegetal component of the design comes to complete the concept of the restaurant, that serves a unique, exotic, round the world, fusion cuisine. The plants create a strong outdoor connection, at the same time defining a few private, secluded areas.

The materials used are raw, direct and uncomplicated.

Concrete on the floor and the pillars, glazed ceramic tiles for the colored background layer, mirror on the walls and brass details all make up a perfect background for the marble and wooden furniture. All the different areas are the direct result of the functional scheme, a delicate balance between the higher, more strict perimetral sitting area and the middle , softer, more organic, fluid occupancy.

The space is treated uniformly with various different focal points, starting with the eight meter long marble bar with a mirror in the background and a light mint ceramic frame and continuing with the delicate exotic wall painting, that balances the fine constructed lines with the strong and abundent theme of the luxurious jungle. For more depth and perspective a mirror has been added next to the painting extending the artwork.

The technical ceiling is apparent, continuing the straightforward, exposed approach of the entire design, painted in a rich, dark, deep green that ties the elements together.

The light is soft, and focused on the tables, with a few exceptions that highlight various focal points. The entire atmosphere is constructed to complete the culinary experience and to help immerse into the green, lush urban oasis.

The restaurant stretches on a surface of 180 sqm, with 74 seating places and it features, custom made furniture as well as ready to use pieces from brands such as Normann Copenhagen, Bolia, HK Living, Seletti and Hubsch. The open plan space allowed for a layered and sequential perspective, that creates depth and consistence.

Craven Dunnill Jackfield Expands Feasibility of Design-Led Ceramic Tile Installations Craven Dunnill Jackfield has an enviable portfolio of successfully completed, bespoke tile projects to its name. These include period restoration work, such as that for The Palace of Westminster and London Underground, plus a growing number of hospitality projects, including The Blues Bar at Shoreditch and Brixton, Newcastle Theatre, St. George’s Hall in Liverpool, and the Crown Bar Liquor Saloon which is a National Trust property.

The most recently completed project is the new Barbecoa restaurant, Piccadilly, London. The 285 cover dining area is located on the lower ground floor and features a striking 2.8 metres high by 11 metres long faience tiled wall on either side, created in jewel-green and white tiles, interspersed with thirteen imposing, ornately decorated, tiled columns. Each column is crowned with a 500 x 600mm, intricately moulded fleur-de-lys, likewise made in ceramic. The

final moulds when filled with the liquid casting slip weighed more than 100kgs and required technical trials to successfully fire.

The practicality and design scope for featuring ceramics in a hospitality environment is likewise illustrated at the Blues Kitchen, Brixton. Craven Dunnill Jackfield designed and hand-manufactured the flamboyant faience-fronted, ceramic tiled bar for the venue. It stretches 10 metres long and is set off against a back-drop of white and blue brick shaped ceramic tiles and amber dados, which define arched recessed areas. There are five different designs of tile, which clad both the bar and five floor-to-ceiling pillars. Each of the central, large green tiles measure 245x 600mm and are convex, weighing around 10kg each. The deeply textured relief design dates to the late 19th century and features a repeating urn motif; these tiles are bordered by four styles of decorative Website: www.cravendunnill-jackfield.co.uk

blue and amber coloured dado tiles. The same designs are featured on the 2.5m tall pillars, which are capped with deep capital tiles, decorated with an acanthus leaf design. The relief tiles were made using hand carved plaster moulds and decorated with metal oxide glazes, which craze upon firing to create an authentic aged effect. For the large tiles, featuring the urns, each required 200g of glaze to achieve the desired depth of colour.

Garden Azovskiy&Pahomova Architects The decision about stylistic direction of the gastrobar came to us, when the name and the concept had been confirmed. The customer wanted us to create light and bright space with sophisticated shades. The main goal was to arrange seating places on 49 sq.m. and to embody the concept of the green garden. That’s why we used a lot of ivy pots, which will be complemented by other plants. The main salt is a big amount of daylight, which permeates into the space. Every detail of the design, from the lightning to wall decoration, complements the style of this location.

The main material is a floor tile. We really like it. It became a starting point of the design concept. The drawing of the tile gave a pace for whole interior. And it is a beautiful decoration of the restobar Garden.Â

QED supplies servery counter for new Canadian-themed fast food outlet Quality Equipment Distributors (QED) is a Glasgow-based designer and supplier of coffee shop and restaurant display counters, catering refrigeration and other food service equipment.

QED has recently installed a custom-designed servery counter to the UK’s very first permanent Caribou Poutine fast food outlet in Liverpool city centre.

Caribou Poutine was founded

Brewery gives an opportunity not only enjoy freshly brewed beverage, and to look behind the scenes the process of making it. The bar opens its door in historical downtown of Ivano-Frankivsk, in building, which constructed during the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the late 19th century. The building has special history. In 1897 firstly in the city was shown movie.

The anchor element of the basement floor is installation of ceramic balls, symbolizing the integral attribute of the drink - beer head. Another installation - wall metallic panel with a perforated hops picture. To authors idea of the bar includes an array of lamps on the basis of beer glasses.

Bright Goods LED Filament Lamps Illuminate Fuller’s Pubs LED Eco Lights today announced that Bright Goods LED filament lamps are being installed throughout the Fuller’s managed pub estate to reduce energy and maintenance costs. The project has been designed, managed and delivered by the Light Corporation.

Bright Goods LED filament lamps from LED Eco Lights were first installed in The Sail Loft, a newly built Fuller’s pub in Greenwich, in a lighting scheme created by the Light Corporation. The Sail Loft is part of the new Greenwich Reach development, with floor-toceiling glass windows on three sides and a large terrace facing the Thames with views of Canary Wharf, Cutty Sark and the O2 Arena. Its interior takes inspiration from its location, and features nautical touches and maritime bric-a-brac adorning the walls.

Tim Henderson, Director of The Light Corporation, said. “We gave the lighting a nautical spin, locating the Bright Goods lamps within basket-style lampshades for example. Bright Goods LED filament lamps are

in a class of their own for this kind of setting, offering energy efficient LED technology in a warm, retro style that perfectly suited the ambiance of the pub. The Sail Loft is a large open plan site able to seat 300 people – yet the lighting makes it feel intimate especially in the evening.”

Fuller’s was impressed with both the appearance of the lights and the energy efficiencies achieved, and contracted The Light Corporation to survey a substantial part of its managed estate of just under 200 pubs, and recommend low energy Bright Goods LED replacements for each light on the premises. Bright Goods LED lamps are also being fitted into existing Fuller’s pubs as they are refurbished and to other new pubs as they are built. Pubs completed include The Tea Merchant, Canary Wharf; The Pilot, Chiswick; The Queen’s Head, Hammersmith; The Hydrant, Monument; The Pilgrim Inn, Southampton; The White Hart Hotel, Hampton and The William Walker, Winchester.

The Forks Market Food Hall

Number TEN Architectural Group The Forks Market Food Hall breathes new life in to one of Winnipeg’s most important and beloved public spaces. The market acts as the city’s living room, a place for people to gather and relax with their friends and loved ones. The design aims to re-define the aging interior as a modern food hall and event space.

While developing the design, it was important to support both the evolving functions of the public space and the site’s rich history. For hundreds of years The Forks has been a place for both gathering and trade. From the late nineteenth century onward the site was used as a rail yard. The two brick structures that today form the market were once machine shops for freight car and coach repair, and later stables for the rail companies. An atrium space was constructed in the late 1980s linking the two historic structures to create The Forks Market building, establishing a shopping and dining destination.

The Forks’ industrial past inspired the direction of the interior design. Raw steel, hand forged blacksmith work and natural wood detailing are all used to reinforce the character of the historic architecture. An exposed steel structure stretching over the craft beer and wine kiosk, composed of exposed c-channels and bent i-beams, was inspired by the architectural language of Canada’s rail history.

Its hand forged steel detailing by a local blacksmith references a traditional industrial art. The existing teal structure was painted dark grey and new lighting was added to enhance the character and material of the original stable buildings. Former horse stalls, which act as food kiosks are outfitted with new tile and steel front counters, consistent signage, and a flexible assortment of equipment to accommodate a variety of food and beverage vendors. New tables with steel bases and swinging circular seats reflect factory plant benches, further

relating to The Forks as a place of turn of the century industry.

The design aims to enhance the sense of community in The Forks Market’s central court. Smaller wood tables with hinged drop leaves can transform in to an 80-person harvest table, allowing for large communal gatherings. Arched structures with counter seating and upholstered banquettes define the edge of the hall, creating more intimate seating areas within the larger volume of the space. Suspended above, large metal drum pendants with glowing LED Edison bulbs contribute visual warmth and further define The Forks has acted as a space for gathering and commerce throughout its rich history. Our hope is that the refreshed food hall will breathe new energy into the space, helping this tradition to continue long in to the future.
