My favorite picture book is Chillin no Suzu. This is sad revenge story. This story was written by Takashi Yanase. He is famous as the author of Anpanman.
I will explain the synopsis. “There was a sheep named Chillin. He lived happily with his mother, but he was killed his mother by a wolf named War. Chillin decides to get stronger to take revenge on War. Then he visits War and asks him to be a disciple, and War accepts it. Over the years, Chillin grows stronger and grows into a terrifying wolf-like figure that doesn’t look like a sheep. War orders Chillin to attack the sheep as a final task. But in Chillin’s head, the day his mother was killed flashes back. And he kills War and avenges her…”

The reason I like this book is that it’s a sad and left me with a bad feeling, which is unusual for a picture book. So, that’s why I’m impressed with this book, and reading it as an adult makes me think again. My favorite picture is that chillin grows into a terrifying wolflike figure. Also, my favorite scene is the last scene. It’s a scene where Chillin confesses what he thought of War and regrets his revenge. It’s very painful and sad. I recommend it not only to children but also to adults.
