Kubo, Chisaki

My favorite picture book is Merry Christmas Penelope. The story is about Christmas. Penelope prepares for the Christmas celebration from the day before Christmas. On the next day, all the relatives gathered, and Penelope had so much fun that causes trouble, but had a great time.

The story was written by Anne Gutman. She was born in 1970 in Paris and joined Gallimard at the age of 21. She has been a designer for seven years. She met Georg during the Gallimard era. Through her intimate communication with Georg, she creates her Penelope story with her humorous sensibility and precise expressiveness.

The pictures were painted by Georg Hallensleben. He was born in Germany in 1958. After graduating from high school, he moved to Rome and started exhibiting paintings at galleries. He met Anne Gutman in Paris and got married. Together with Anne Gutman, he draws children’s daily lives from a concrete perspective with his outstanding expressiveness. He lives in Paris with Anne and her three children.

The reason why I love this book is the trick is really fun. I had never read a book like this. I like the fact that when I open the present that Penelope received and transform it into a bee costume, I transform myself into Penelope. I am grateful to my parents for giving me this picture book.
