There are various types of onigiri. There are a wide variety, from simple ones to those that have a bit added such as baked onigiri and flavoured onigiri. There are also many kinds of ingredients. They range from representative ones like tuna mayo to minor ones such as kimchi and sweet potatoes, the number of which cannot be counted. So, what kind of onigiri are popular?
Let’s take a look at the rankings compiled for your favorite onigiri ingredients. In fifth place was boiled kelp, in fourth place was mentaiko, in third place was umeboshi, in second place was salmon, and in first place was tuna mayo. I understand that the second to fifth places are popular because they are all Japanese-style ingredients, but I was surprised that Tsunamayo was so popular that it became the first place.

Finally, I would like to introduce my favorite onigiri. My favorite onigiri is the kelp and okaka onigiri from the neighborhood supermarket (named Konomiya). Nori with a good taste covers the whole onigiri, and the compatibility with rice is outstanding. In addition, there are plenty of ingredients. I buy these once a week at the end of my workday. I am very happy when I am eating these. If you have a chance, please try it!
