Timuquana Cares Employee Foundation, Inc.
On behalf of the Timuquana Cares Employee Foundation Board, I am delighted to recognize this year’s employee scholarship winners; Victoria Allen, and Jace Spinelli. Through our members’ support of the Foundation we were able to increase the number of scholarships from one to two and look to continue to expand opportunities for members of our staff and their families to advance their educational pursuits. Over the past year and a half has provided $22,000 worth of financial aid to our staff through scholarships and financial hardship grants. As we look forward, I challenge the membership to increase their Foundation engagement. This support is critical as awareness of the Foundation spreads among employees and we expect a significant increase in 2024 scholarship applications. The Foundation Board is committed to the following goals for 2024:
• Increase member awareness and understanding of the Foundation
• Increase member contribution participation
• Expand the number and value of the scholarships awarded
The Foundation is committed to establishing a legacy of philanthropy that our staff and their family members can count on for years to come. If you have any questions about the Foundation, please do not hesitate to reach out. Information about the Foundation can also be found on the website and App.

FURYK & FRIENDS TOURNAMENT UPDATE
The third annual Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS presented by Circle K is just around the corner, with tournament week scheduled for October 2–8. The Furyk & Friends team of Adam Renfroe, Tabitha Furyk, and Laura Fellwock have been terrific partners and are finalizing details of what will surely be another spectacular member and community experience here at TCC.
We would like to thank the Sponsorship Committee for securing member-owned businesses to support the event through hospitality suites, Pro-Am participation, and in-kind donations that will assist with tournament logistics. Building on last year’s success, Cabanas on 17 and Champions Row Chalets are nearly sold out. Club 58 tickets are available and offered to members at a discounted rate. Please see details under the “Tickets” section below.
We also want to thank the member volunteers who will be participating in the execution of the tournament. It is great to see the membership supporting this exciting event for Timuquana, the City of Jacksonville, and the charities that will benefit from the tournament proceeds.

8 | JULY/AUGUST 2023
Beginning October 16, the Club will undergo renovations to the Clubhouse and tennis facility. In the Clubhouse, we will complete a full remodel of the ladies’ and men’s locker rooms and 19th Hole. Both areas will see significant layout, functionality, and décor changes as represented by the renderings. On the men’s side, due to structural and mechanical restrictions, the wet area, locker area, and 19th Hole will stay in their respective locations. However, the final project includes changes to the bar location, a new soft seating area with a fireplace, an improved locker attendant area, and an open concept between the two spaces. New features include a vaulted ceiling, heated floors outside the showers, a steam shower, humidor lockers, custom backgammon tables, multiple high-definition TVs, and an improved interior locker configuration with full lockers with an integrated bench and shoe locker. With the open concept between the two spaces, the designers have planned for pocket doors to close off the locker room and 19th Hole when needed. On the ladies’ side, we have added a new seating area, a dry vanity, and an improved entry. In addition to the locker room areas, we will complete a few minor improvements throughout the rest of the building, including re-skinning the elevator’s interior, replacing the Dornoch Room window, and improving the stairwell to the Fitness Center.
Fall Renovations
19th Hole, Locker Rooms, and Tennis Deck
With the growth of tennis and pickleball and the popularity of the social events and tournaments we have seen over the last two years, we will take the opportunity to improve the deck area at the tennis facility. By removing the green awning and extending the roofline, we will create another 450 square feet of usable deck space and improve the viewing space over court one. In addition, we will be renovating both restrooms, replacing the dated vanity under the TV, adding a new storage shed for the ball carts, and adding a new wall that will hide the ice machine from view from the #9 fairway. This wall will also serve as display board for tournament draws, flyers, and other communications.
We anticipate renovations to take nine months to complete. Please look out for additional communications regarding any impact on operations, tennis court access, or entrances to the Clubhouse during the renovation period. We hope that you enjoy these improvements when they open in late summer 2024, and should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to Greg Sheara at gsheara@timuquana.net.

Golf Course Closure
The golf course will be closed Tuesday, August 1–Thursday, August 3 for annual golf course maintenance.
Fourth of July
We began July with an exciting weekend at the Club as we celebrate Independence Day. Please be mindful of our guest policy on this historically busy weekend. Family guests and non-resident guests may play anytime on Friday and Sunday and after 12:00 pm on Saturday. The golf course will be open on Monday, July 3, and family guests and non-resident guests will be able to play at any time. We will host our annual July 4th Tournament with an 8:30 am shotgun. Following the tournament, tee times will be available at 1:30 pm.
Lightning Alarm System
The heat of summer is upon us, and with that comes many afternoon thunderstorms. Anytime lightning is detected within six miles of the Club, the active lightning alarm system will sound with one long single blast. At that time, all golfers are required to immediately quit playing and practicing and seek shelter. At 20 minutes from the last strike within six miles of the Club, the all-clear siren will sound with three blasts. At that time, it will be safe to resume playing and practicing.
Annual Course Maintenance
The golf course will be closed for annual course maintenance from August 1–3. Tee times will be available beginning at 11:00 am on Friday, August 4. The course is closed every year during this week to allow Alan Brown and his team to aerify and complete any final course projects as we approach a busy fall season.
Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS Tournament
We are not far from hosting the third annual Constellation FURYK & FRIENDS Tournament which is set to be played the first week of October. We look forward to having Steve Stricker back to defend his title along with many other of the game’s greatest players. As we approach the tournament, please be aware of the following dates:
• September 19 – Cart Path Only begins.
• September 29 – The course and practice facilities will close to play following close of business. Members must also remove bags from the bag room and have all men’s and ladies’ lockers cleaned out.

Keeping up with your exercise schedule during the summer can be a challenge, but it’s important to stay consistent to achieve your fitness goals.
Here are some tips to help you stay on track:
1. Create a Weekly Schedule: This can help you establish a consistent exercise routine while visualizing your workouts for the week.
2. Mix Up Your Workouts: Add some variety by mixing up what workouts you do to avoid boredom and challenge your body. This helps make sure you hit all muscle groups and prevents muscle imbalances.
3. Stay Hydrated: It’s important to remember to drink water before, during, and after your workout. When exercising, our bodies naturally lose fluids and electrolytes through sweating, so remember to refuel with water or a sports drink.
In addition to these tips, you may also want to consider scheduling some personal training sessions. A personal trainer can help you design a customized workout plan and provide guidance, motivation, and support. A trainer can also help you navigate the unique challenges of summer workouts and adjust your workouts accordingly.
Another great option is to attend group fitness classes. Group fitness classes provide a fun and motivating environment, as well as a variety of workouts to help you stay engaged and challenged.
