Children’s Events Policy

Our children’s events are designed for children aged 5 to 12. Children aged 5 and under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Parents of children attending an event must remain on property for the duration of the event, and alert the room monitor as to where they can be located.

Timuquana Treehouse

Timuquana Treehouse is designed for children aged 3–10 years old. A full list of policies and procedures can be found online.

Mission Statement

Timuquana will offer its members, their families and guests exceptional social, golf and recreational experiences, which foster enduring friendships and preserve community.

It’s hard to believe my year of presidency is coming to a close. It has been a challenging but rewarding tenure with several successful Long Range Capital Projects completed during the year. Notably, the reopening of the golf course in August ahead of schedule, and renovations to the Golf Shop, Heritage Hallway, and restroom facilities, further enhancing our Club’s ambiance. In addition, we instituted an essential change to the new member vetting/invitation process to better manage the high demand and resultant waitlist of potential new members. Finally, I am quite proud of our official launch of the Timuquana Cares Employee Foundation and the excellent support from our membership in funding this endeavor to help our staff in times of need.

In this, my last letter to the membership, I would like to extend my sincere appreciation and gratitude to my fellow 2022-2023 Board of Governors and all the committee volunteers. Thank you for dedicating your time, valuable input, and constructive feedback to reviewing and adapting policies and creating new programs for the membership. Working with you all has been a privilege and an honor.

Special thanks and recognition are in order for three gentlemen who will be rolling off the Board in April following their three years of service. Spencer Cummings has positively impacted his role as House Chair as we transitioned the Food & Beverage Committee to the House Committee in 2022, broadening its scope to include Clubhouse-related policies. The Committee has successfully reviewed Clubhouse Customs & Traditions and made minor modifications to ensure the courtesies and values of TCC are consistently met by our members. In addition, their valuable input in Food & Beverage operations has continually helped improve the overall member experience over the last few years.

During his time as the Golf Committee Chair, Tom Bishop had a full plate and accomplished a great deal as well. Tom and the Committee had a challenging few years managing the boom in play following the pandemic and post-golf course construction. The Committee has navigated this demand by adapting guest policies, tee times, and tournament entry procedures.

Last but certainly not least, I’d also like to give special thanks to Mike Muldoon, our beloved Past President and current Chair of the Long Range Planning Committee, for his incredible persistence in navigating the inflation pressures seen during 2021 and for overseeing the various improvements that were made to the Driving Range and Clubhouse interiors. His love for this Club and tireless efforts to foster our great culture are second to none. We are thankful to these three men for their leadership, investment of time and talent, and significant contributions over these past three years.

I greatly appreciated and enjoyed the opportunity to serve as your Club President. I have strived to “stay the course” of prudent fiscal management of Club assets while constantly trying to enhance our facility and member experience. I am proud of our accomplishments over the past 12 months, our dedicated and top-notch professional staff, and the excellent reputation this membership and Club enjoys within our community. As I turn the reigns over to Mike Oates as our incoming President, I thank you all for your support and look forward to seeing you around the Club as we celebrate our milestone 100th anniversary.

From the Membership Office

Timuquana is a special place, and word continues to spread. We have 29 prospective members waiting to complete the application process. Categories include 17 House Social, eight Founder, three National, and one Clergy. Below is a refresher on the process in its entirety. Please reach out if you have any questions, or if I may be of assistance to someone you know interested in membership.

Membership Application Process:

SUPPORTING LETTERS

• The Board requires four (4) supporting letters for membership.

• Two (2) of the four (4) letters need to be from Founder members.

• A primary member must be identified and is responsible for ensuring the completion of the application process.

• The letters are to be submitted in the form of a completed “Sponsor Form” (available online) that includes an attestation by the sponsoring member of his or her thorough knowledge of the prospective member and their family. The form must be completed in its entirety by all four sponsoring members. In order to complete the Sponsor Form, the sponsoring member needs to spend a significant amount of time with the applicant. As a result, sponsors are encouraged to invite the applicant to play golf at the Club, come to dinner, or otherwise spend enough time with them to be able to vouch for the applicant’s suitability for membership.

DEPOSIT

• All categories (including legacies and reinstatements), with the exception of Founders, are required to provide a nonrefundable deposit of $2,500 as part of the application process. Founder applicants are required to pay a nonrefundable deposit equal to 10% of the current initiation fee. This amount gets credited to the member’s initiation fee upon joining. Deposits are refundable only when applications are rejected by the Club.

BACKGROUND/CREDIT CHECK

• All applicants are required to complete a background and credit check. The cost of the background and credit check is covered by the prospective member. A credit card authorization form is part of the application process and must be completed and included in the final submission to the Membership Office.

COMPLETED FILE

• All letters/forms, application, background check, and deposit are required when submitting an application to the Membership Office. Only complete application packages are accepted by the Membership Office. Once a full file is completed, and the deposit applied, the prospective member waits for availability of interviews with the Membership Committee.

INTERVIEWS

• As required, the Club schedules prospective member dinner interviews. Dinners are for the member and spouse (if applicable). These dinners are scheduled on the first Thursday of each month from 6:00–7:30 pm. Dinner is conducted by two members of the Membership Committee.

• The Membership Committee submits a recommendation to the Membership Office in advance of the following Board meeting.

BOARD COCKTAIL RECEPTION

• The Monthly Board Cocktail Reception continues when required as normally scheduled from 6:00–6:45 pm when candidates have completed the interview process. A maximum of four (4) prospective members are invited when a cocktail reception is scheduled.

The Future

We hope you are enjoying the fruits of our previous capital investments in the golf course, pool, and Pow Wow Room. Looking at future facility enhancement plans, we remain focused on creating a considerable and sustainable member value. The Club has much to celebrate within its first one hundred years, and together we can look toward a bright future.

Chef will feature his traditional Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner, Shepherd’s Pie, Fish-n-Chips, and some surprises from the Emerald Isle.

Saved by the Band is coming to Timuquana’s Concert on the Lawn. Saved by the Band brings a magical mix of the ‘80s, ‘90s, and songs from this century to life. A Tradition Unlike Any Other T-Stand Masters Sandwiches will be available during the Masters Tournament, Thursday, April 6, through Sunday, April 9. Sandwiches include Chicken Salad, Pimento Cheese, and Egg Salad for $4. Also available in Pow Wow from 2:30–5:30 pm. Not available To-Go.

Bushmills “The Rare Casks”

With the unprecedented growth of our beverage program and a little luck from the Irish, we are delighted to have one of Bushmills’ rarest bottling at TCC.

We will feature a Single Malt Irish Whiskey that is one of the oldest ever released by Bushmills, the oldest licensed distillery in the world, dating back to 1608.

Limited Release No. 2 is a 29-year-old Pedro Ximenez Sherry Cask Finished Whiskey that was distilled on April 6, 1992, under the watchful eye of Master Distiller Colum Egan.

This is a rare opportunity to sample this whiskey, as very few bottles have ever reached the U.S. It will be available by the ounce for $30 a pour.

Spring is here, and the next few months are the best time to play golf at Timuquana. It is also the beginning of our 2023 tournament season. As you prepare your golf calendar for the upcoming months, please note the Club tournament schedule for course closures.

Golf Course Closure

The golf course will be closed Tuesday, May 30–Monday, June 12 for annual golf course maintenance.

Founders’ Day will be held on Tuesday, March 7. The Annual Meeting will begin at 11:00 am, with lunch to follow at 11:45 am. The shotgun start will begin at 1:00 pm. There is no entry fee, and the format is one best ball of your foursome. If you wish to play and do not have a group, please contact the Golf Shop and we will be happy to find a team for you.

The PLAYERS Championship

The PLAYERS Championship will be played at TPC Sawgrass the week of March 7–12. This always promises to be a busy week of golf at TCC. With that said, please observe the guest rules for this exciting week.

• Tuesday, March 7 is Founders’ Day and guest play will not be allowed.

• Guests may play anytime from Wednesday, March 8 through Friday, March 10.

LGA Ladies’ Member-Guest

Save the date! The Timuquana Country Club Ladies’ Golf Association will host their annual Ladies’ Member-Guest on Thursday, March 30. Ladies must be members of the TCC LGA to participate in this event, and can join the LGA by contacting the Golf Shop at 904.389.0477.

One-Day Member-Guest

We will host a men’s One-Day Member-Guest Tournament on Thursday, April 13. Online registration for this event opens on Wednesday, March 15, at 8:00 am and will be available to the first 48 two-person teams on a first-come, first-served basis. The entry fee of $385 includes golf, prizes, lunch, and on-course beverages, with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres following the round. Lunch will begin at 11:30 am, followed by a shotgun start at 1:00 pm. Ladies may play in the morning during their usual time; however, the course will be closed to all other non-tournament play.

Spring Classic

Our annual Spring Classic (Men’s Senior Member-Guest) will take place April 20–22. The golf course will be closed to non-tournament players on Thursday, April 20, and Friday, April 21. The first tee will open at 1:30 pm on Saturday, April 22, and the golf course will open for normal operations on Sunday, April 23. Cost: $850 per team.

Jim Goergen, Director of Instruction

As the new Director of Instruction, I am honored to be joining the Professional Staff and truly look forward to leading the instruction program. Since my first visit to Timuquana in the early 1990s, I have had a love for the course and the Club. TCC’s rich tradition, esteemed membership, and overall culture have held a special place in my heart for years.

Our immediate goal for the instruction program is to align the instructional offering with the ethos of the Club. A top-level club should offer top-level instruction, and I am charged with bringing the program upward.

I have a passion for helping anyone who loves this great game. I derive as much satisfaction from helping new golfers make solid contact as I do helping a plus-two handicap win the Club Championship. Whether you are brand new to the game or a player with vast experience, getting better requires a commitment. I hope to create a culture where members look to improve by committing to a plan for improvement over time. Every once in a while, “dial a prayer” works where we can catch lightning in a bottle and make a big difference in a player’s game with a one-off lesson. However, for the vast majority of players, seeing them repeatedly over time is the fail-proof option for tremendous improvement.

My personal mission in golf has been centered around building viable, fun, and competitive junior programs. Blanton’s capable staff and I will be committed to making the Timuquana Junior Golf Program the best junior program in the city and a bench-mark in the state. Our program will accommodate all junior golfers, from the casual player or beginner to the passionate junior chasing the dream of competitive golf. Meeting juniors where they currently are and helping them along their journey is one of the hallmarks of creating a successful program, and we are committed to this strategy.

As I have met some of the membership already, I’d like to say thank you for such a warm welcome. I look forward to meeting many others soon, and I am honored to be part of Timuquana Country Club.

Beginner Golf Camp

Registration opens Tuesday, February 21!

Beginner Golf Camp is designed specifically for budding junior golfers. Campers will play fun games and drills to teach them the skills necessary to build a solid foundation in the game of golf. No experience is required, and all equipment will be provided. Ages 4–12.

Cost: Member, $150 Accompanied Guest, $180 Guests will be accepted based on availability.

Tennis Tip: Returning a Doubles Serve

The

Proper Mindset

Whether your opponent serves and stays back or serves and runs to the net, the mindset must be the same. In both cases, avoid trying to play, what I call, the “Hit-Winners” mindset. This is where the player thinks everything they hit has to win the point. Players like this try to do too much with the ball and make too many unforced errors due to faulty thinking. Instead, adopt something more consistent. Think about getting the ball back and neutralizing your opponent’s serve.

A Word from The Pros

As we bid farewell to the winter months and look forward to a beautiful spring, we have an exciting schedule of tennis and pickleball events planned for you. The Doubles Club Championship will be held in April, along with a destination clinic trip to the Wild Dunes Resort in Charleston, South Carolina. Our junior after-school and adult inter-club programs are in full swing and remain very active. When Your Opponent Stays Back

If your opponent serves and stays back, you must master a deep cross-court return of serve. The key is depth, which forces your opponent to stay back and gives you more time to react to the next shot. Hitting deep tilts the percentages in your favor. You’re attempting to create pressure, not win the point outright through this method.

When Your Opponent Charges the Net

If your opponent is serving and running to the net, you must also hit the ball crosscourt, but this time you should keep the ball low at their feet. This method will make your opponent hit up at the ball, giving you a pop-up, which you can then put away. Remember, you are trying to create pressure, not hit a winner!

Conclusion

To summarize, you should return cross-court and deep when your opponent serves and stays back. When your opponent serves and runs to the net, you should return cross-court and low at their feet. Finally, in both cases, ensure you stay in a consistent mindset and not a “Hit-Winners” mindset.

Join us for the second major tennis event of the year! Members will team up and compete against other members for the title of Doubles Club Champion. The 2023 Doubles Club Championship will feature men and women, doubles levels 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and above.

H2O FITNESS

Mondays & Saturdays | 10:00–10:45 am

H2O Fitness has moderate to high-intensity cardio segments followed by strength moves using aqua bells. Various formats of interval training are used in this shallow water class. Modifications are available making this fun class suitable for all fitness levels. This class is held year-round in our heated pool.

Lifeguard Certification Class

TCC’s Red Cross Certified Instructors will offer two lifeguard certification opportunities this spring. These classes consist of blended learning at home online and in-person at TCC. Certifications are good for two years. Private certification classes are also available. Cost: $260 per class. Ages 16 & up. War Eagle Aquatic Club

As we head into the 2023 aquatics season, we will sport a new name and compete in a different league! Formerly the TYC River Rats with the River City Swim League (RCSL), Timuquana’s swimmers will now be known as the War Eagles and participate in the First Coast Summer Swim League (FCSSL). The FCSSL has more than a thousand summer swimmers and includes teams like Pace Island and Eagle Harbor. Our summer swim program will be highly competitive with smaller, faster, and more enjoyable programming. It’ll also include a fun day trip to Summer Waves in Georgia!
