What a trying year it has been for us all, and given the circumstances, I think everyone has done a fantastic job of keeping their businesses afloat during these difficult times. I just pray that 2022 will be without the dramas of the last couple of years.
We are now counting down the days until Christmas Eve when Father Christmas will be arriving at the homes of ‘good children’ across the world. The advent calendars have started being demolished, the gifts are being bought and in some cases, wrapped too. The trees are being erected and houses are starting to light up. Christmas is such an exciting time of the year. Old friends catch up and families come together; then there are office parties, food, drink (always sensibly!), Christmas movies and Christmas markets — the list is endless..
We at The Sentinella would like to wish each and every one of you — advertisers, readers, friends and family — a very happy Christmas. Foxy frolic A family's "pet dog" that angered neighbours by killing and eating ducks and chickens has turned out to be a fox. Maribel Soleto bought a new pup from a small shop in central Lima, Peru, believing it was a young dog. The animal, which they called "Run Run", initially played happily with other pet dogs in the neighbourhood, but as it grew up, signs emerged that something wasn't quite right. Run Run showed a real passion for chasing and killing ducks and chickens in a move that angered the local community. The pet turned out to be an Andean fox, which has thin legs, a bushy tail, a pointed head and prominent ears. "We had thought he was a purebred puppy," said Ms Sotelo, who added that her teenage son bought the animal as a pet for the equivalent of $13 (£10) about six months ago.
Weighty tate A small farm owner weeding his garden got a giant surprise when his hoe struck an object beneath the soil's surface. At first, Colin Craig-Brown, who lives near Hamilton, New Zealand, thought it might be some strange fungal growth, but the object — the size of a small dog and weighing almost 8kgs — turned out to be a potato. He has applied for recognition from Guinness World Records. The farmer, from Hamilton, New Zealand, believes the potato is self-sown and may have been growing for a couple of years or more. He is now waiting to find out if the spud has made it into the Guinness World Records book. The current record has been held since 2011 by a potato from Shepton Mallett, Somerset — which weighed a mere 4.98kg (10lb 14oz).

Doggy TV Man's best friend will soon have a range of specialist pooch-friendly content to enjoy on the TV. DogTV is a new television network created specifically for our four-legged friends and was created after three years of research. The channel airs scientifically tested programming aiming to alleviate symptoms of conditions such as separation anxiety, loneliness and stress, bosses say. It will also have shows to help owners better understand and look after their pets. The channel has been developed following studies into animals' physiological and psychological needs, moods and responses, to help them feel more stimulated or relaxed when needed, producers said in a statement. Colours, audio frequencies and camera alignment have all been adapted to cater to dog senses. Professor Nicholas Dodman, chief scientist for DogTV, said: "DogTV is an excellent resource for dog owners to help alleviate
some of the behavioural problems that can arise when dogs are left alone.” According to Dog TV, one out of six dogs suffers from overt separation anxiety. The service will be available on a range of smart TVs, Android and Apple devices and online.
Batty bird This year's bird of the year competition saw an unlikely winner capture voters’ hearts. The inclusion of a bat was a controversial choice, but a success for those pushing to get more attention for the mammal in "serious trouble". Pekapeka-tou-roa, also known as the long-tailed bat, is one of only a few land mammals native to New Zealand and is best known for its small size. It was included in the contest in order to raise awareness of the threats facing it and it went on to win with a comfortable 3,000-vote lead. The bat is close to the size of a thumb and has the wingspan of a human hand.

The main inhabited islands of the Grenadines are called, Mustique, Union island, Bequia and Canouan. The others are privately owned.
Saint Vincent and the Grenadines were one of the last Caribbean islands to be colonised by the Europeans. Out And About In Torrox
Torrox is the name of a collection of locations situated east of Torre Del Mar. This is a popular spot to live and holiday for both Spanish and other European nations with one big factor being it has the best climate in Europe. Each of these places have much to offer in their own right and collectively, they form a lovely area to live, work and relax. Torrox Costa is located just 15km from Torre Del Mar. Torrox Costa has a totally different character and personality to its near neighbour. Like much of this coast, there’s an impressive promenade that sweeps the length of the beaches here. At its eastern end, just past the lighthouse, the beach is dog friendly and is a great spot to let your furry friend run along the shoreline. Torrox Pueblo is situated at the foothills of the Alpujarra mountains, a couple of miles inland from Torrox Costa. This is traditional white-washed village set in a green valley. There’s a traditional Spanish feel to this small village, despite it being the home to many people from other parts of the world. Located between Torrox Costa and Pueblo, Torrox Park is a large collection of urbanisations that are popular relocation spots with those who decide to make this area of Axarquía their home. There’s property to suit every budget and style: spacious villas, townhouses and apartments along with a large and well equipped mobile home park that allows all year living. Whilst, in itself, Torrox Park, doesn’t offer much for day trippers, many visitors stay here as homes are frequently listed for holiday rental. I just want to thank all of you for your educational e-mails. I am totally screwed up now and have little chance of recovery.
I no longer open a bathroom door without using a paper towel, or have the waitress put lemon slices in my ice water without worrying about the bacteria on the lemon peel. I can't use the remote in a hotel room because I don't know what the last person was doing while flipping through the adult movie channels.
I have trouble shaking hands with someone who has been driving because the number one pastime while driving alone is picking one's nose.
I must also send special thanks to whoever sent me the one about rat s*** in the glue on envelopes because I now have to use a wet sponge with every envelope that needs sealing.
Also, now I have to scrub the top of every can I open for the same reason. I no longer have any money, but that will change once I receive the 15,000€ that Bill Gates/Microsoft and AOL are sending me for participating in their special e-mail program.
I can't use cancer-causing deodorants even though I smell like a water buffalo on a hot day. I have learned that my prayers only get answered if I forward an e-mail to seven of my friends and make a wish within five minutes.
I no longer drink Coca Cola because it can remove toilet stains.
I no longer buy petrol without taking someone along to watch the car so a serial killer doesn't crawl in my back seat when I'm filling up. I no longer drink Pepsi or Fanta since the
people who make these products are atheists who refuse to put 'Under God' on their cans. I no longer use Clingfilm in the microwave because it causes seven different types of cancer.
And thanks for letting me know I can't boil a cup of water in the microwave anymore because it will blow up in my face.. Disfiguring me for life.
I no longer answer the phone because someone will ask me to dial a number for which I will get a phone bill with calls to Jamaica, Uganda, Singapore and Uzbekistan. Thanks to you I can't use anyone's toilet but mine because a big black snake could be lurking under the seat and cause me instant death when it bites my arse.
I no longer drive my car because buying petrol from some companies supports Al Qaeda, and buying petrol from all the others supports South American dictators.
If you don't read this to at least 144,000 people in the next 70 minutes, a large dove with diarrhea will land on your head at 5.00pm tomorrow afternoon, and the fleas from 120 camels will infest your back, causing you to grow a hairy hump. I know this will occur because it actually happened to a friend of my next door neighbour's ex-mother-in-law's second husband's cousin's best friend's beautician... PS: I now keep my toothbrush in the living room, because I was told by e-mail that water splashes over 6 ft. out of the toilet. One mixed up person eh!

Succulent Fish & Chips - The Town Frier Has Relocated
The first Fish & Chip Shop is thought to have opened in the North of England in Mossely, near Oldham, Lancashire around 1863. Over the decades they’ve changed how Fish & Chips are served. Prior to the 1980’s to keep prices low Fish & Chips were very often served and wrapped in newspaper, until during the late 1980’s when it was flagged as unsafe for food to be served in newspaper because of the ink. Whichever way they are served, traditional Fish & Chips are delicious and especially the ones made by Mick and Andrea from ‘The Town Frier’. The Town Frier has recently moved location from Puente don Manuel to the kitchen at The Belvedere in Torre del Mar. NON-LUCRATIVE VISAS TO LIVE IN SPAIN For British nationals who wish to reside in Spain there are two main options: Non-Lucrative visas are for those who can show evidence of income outside of Spain and have private medical care; Golden visas are for those who have more than 500,000€ to invest.
If you wish to apply for the Non-Lucrative visa, the first application can be made online by our specialist lawyer. The application is made to the relevant Spanish Consulate in the UK who will then issue a fixed appointment. You will attend in person with the original documentation, copies of which will have been scanned to them by our lawyer. The Spanish authorities will answer, normally within a month to six weeks, as to whether your application has been successful. If successful, you return to have your passport stamped with the visa (visado). This visa is for those who wish to become permanent residents in Spain. You will then attend the local police station with evidence of rental or ownership of property and your registration with the Town Hall where your residence card will be issued. This residence will be valid for one year and renewable for two consecutive two-year periods thereafter. You will need to be able to prove income of approximately 28,000€ for the main applicant and in the region of an additional 600€ monthly for economic dependants. You will also need private medical insurance and a clean criminal records check.

Elton helps Ant Ant McPartlin has formed a close bond with Elton John who is helping him leave his former drink and drug addictions firmly in the past. Ant and Dec were VIP guests of Sir Elton recently when their beloved Newcastle played Watford.
And the music legend regularly calls to give “fatherly advice” to Ant. A source close to the TV hosts said: “Elton has been very supportive of Ant and given advice on dealing with addiction.
“Obviously Elton has been sober for many years now and is a lot older than Ant, so can offer fatherly advice and knows how tough it can be to kick the habit.”

Red Cross Update
As a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, in 2020 the Red Cross had to suspend many services and activities in order to focus on relief and support for vulnerable local people.
Volunteers delivered food and other essential goods and also collected and delivered shopping and medicines for those shielding and unable to leave home. Working with Social Services and the Junta of Andalucía, local people in need were then identified and

provided with vouchers to help them to meet basic needs.
As the situation improves, it is hoped that the Red Cross can gradually offer more services and activities and I will be able to provide more information in the future. In the meantime, I confirm that the Red Cross is currently able to offer the following:The loan of physical aids such as wheelchairs, crutches, walking frames, walking sticks and 'hospital' beds. There is no charge for the loan of these items and, apart from the beds, they are normally 'in-stock' and available at relatively short notice. Help, ie: a lift, to attend important appointments such as medical check-ups for people without access to a car or public transport. This can include specially adapted vehicles for wheelchair users. The supply and installation of an alarm to summon help in an emergency by means of a wrist/pendant worn button in the home or a mobile phone App. There is a charge for this service as the Red Cross has its own call centre and employs the staff. The Costa Animal Society (CAS) is seeking animal-loving, energetic, social media savvy persons to come on board. If you’re a compassionate person who respects the lives of unfortunate animals who live a treacherous life in the wild, hop aboard. There is an occasional heartache, but the rewards in homing animals and receiving videos of these rescue dogs and cats romping about in their forever homes is something to behold.
We are a small, voluntary charity organisation, that has been successfully rehoming and assisting abandoned animals in the Nerja, Frigiliana and Maro for over 30 years. We are presently looking for enthusiastic people to join our committee, continuing the work started by the sitting committee, some of whom have recently stepped down after many, many (some, decades) of years of service. For Christmas festivities wines always find general favour. Which wines, what with and when, need not be so complex. I selected some popular choices, that satisfy many situations and also pair with food, admirably. Not forgetting Santa (and his grown-up helpers!), when he does his rounds, a joyful sherry is always welcome!

We cannot forget Santa, of course! A good idea (in my opinion) is to leave a very acceptable sherry for Santa – and his grown-up helpers! Fernando de Castilla Classic Pedro Ximenez I find to be a sherry that goes on pleasing. Big on flavour and sweetness, this is very good and elegant. I know, I know, it’s that time of year again. But, if it works, it works! I hope you have a wonderful time and enjoy the drinks (if you wish to) that suit you. Merry Christmas!

Last week, we took some friends to a new restaurant, 'Steve's Place,' and noticed that the waiter who took our order carried a spoon in his shirt pocket. It seemed a little strange. When the busboy brought our water and utensils, observed that he also had a spoon in his shirt pocket. Then I looked around and saw that all the staff had spoons in their pockets. When the waiter came back to serve our soup I inquired, 'Why the spoon?' ’Well,' he explained, 'The restaurant's owner hired Andersen Consulting to revamp all of our processes. After several months of analysis, they concluded that the spoon was the most frequently dropped utensil. It represents a drop frequency of approximately 3 spoons per table per hour. If our personnel are better prepared, we can reduce the number of trips back to the kitchen and save 15 man-hours per shift.' As luck would have it, I dropped my spoon and he replaced it with his spare.. 'I'll get another spoon next time I go to the kitchen instead of making an extra trip to get it right now.' I was impressed. I also noticed that there was a string hanging out of the waiter's fly. Looking around, I saw that all of the waiters had the same string hanging from their flies. So, before he walked off, I asked the waiter, 'Excuse me, but can you tell me why you have that string right there?' 'Oh, certainly!' Then he lowered his voice. 'Not everyone is so observant. That consulting firm I mentioned also learned that we can save time in the restroom. By tying this string to the tip of our you-know-what, we can pull it out without touching it and eliminate the need to wash our hands, shortening the time spent in the restroom by 76.39%. I asked quietly, 'After you get it out, how do you put it back?'

The flight attendant goes into the cockpit and tells the pilot and the co-pilot that there is a blonde sitting in first class who belongs in economy, and she won't move back to her seat. The co-pilot goes back to the blonde and tries to explain that, because she only paid for economy, she will have to leave and return to her seat. The blonde gives the same reply. The co-pilot tells the pilot that he probably should have the police waiting when they land to arrest this blonde woman who won't listen to reason. The pilot says, "You say she is a blonde? I'll handle this, I'm married to a blonde, I speak blonde". He goes back to the blonde and whispers in her ear, and she says, "Oh, I'm sorry," and gets up and goes back to her seat in economy. The flight attendant and co-pilot are amazed and ask the pilot what he said to make her move without any fuss. “I told her, 1st class isn't going to Toronto.”
