REOPENING RAISES THE ROOF By Chris Frost chris@tricountysentry.com
Oxnard-- It was a great evening at the Murphy Auto Museum, Feb. 22, as the venue held its grand reopening at its new location, 1930 Eastman Avenue.
T
HE evening had all the elements of a vintage car event, including classic cars, live music, and an art show in the Fireball Gallery that was loaded with great pieces of art. The evening also had food, refreshments, and the star of the show, the classic cars, that accentuated the point that the classics are a pure art form. The team had a dedication ceremony before they opened officially, and David Neel introduced Founder Dr. Daniel Murphy, saying it's the third Murphy Auto Museum. "It's a lot of work to find a place to go," Murphy said. Fireball Tim Lawrence thanked Neel, who he called his partner in crime. "Many of you came to the museum and helped move cars," he said. "It was an empty shell, and it was our job to try and create a place where you guys can come and hopefully experience something different. Something you wouldn't necessarily get at the Peterson, the Mullin, or any of the other car museums, which are all fabulous. Our job was to create a museum for all of us, for every person, where you can walk in and remember that I had that car." The Fireball Gallery, he said, had eight contributing artists who came out for the reopening event. Artist Tommy Hollenstein created an entire wall of art that was acrylic on masonite board. He creates all his art from his wheelchair. He broke his neck while he was mountain bike riding 35 years ago.

State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson, along with Ventura County District Three and Five Candidates Carmen Ramirez and Kim Marra Stephenson, joined forces to attack the big oil money.
"I apply paint to the tires, and I apply it layer-by-layer and create various abstract and creative art," he said. "I've got some skate decks that I've created here. Some of the decks have about 30 layers of paint." Hollenstein had his 1953 panel truck in Malibu one day, and he met Fireball. n Museum Grand, see page 5

the PAC money and said he hasn't benefitted from that money at all. "We've received many individual donations and my own contributions of about $40,000," he said. Burum had a group of faithful volunteers with him, and he thinks they're wonderful. They're always with us," he said. "They've known me for years, they know what I stand for, they know our platform, and they are the ones who helped me prepare for all the debates, which we won, all four." Burum is from California, and he said he's an environmentalist who

advocates clean air, water, and land. "There's no doubt about it," he said. "We all know that a good environment is good for the economy." He pointed out another problem and said we're in a recession. "We're going into our seventh year of a recession, while the rest of the country, including our state, is doing well," he said. "It's all about leadership, and it means we have to have more jobs. We need more jobs and more industry that's clean and works with our environment. We can do that." n Burum campaign, see page 4
