Leading the event was Master of Ceremonies Bobby WhiteBird from the Southern Cheyenne Nation who introduced each group and announced the scavenger hunts that mean prizes for attendees. Earth Day celebration packs Plaza Park By Chris Frost chris@tricountysentry.com Oxnard— Earth Day 2019 came to Oxnard’s Plaza Park, April 13, as the celebration encouraged people to think globally, take care of the planet, and was a perfect afternoon for a celebration. The day featured music by the MiniDriver Band, great food, community engagement and special recognition from State Senator Hanna Beth Jackson, Congresswoman Julia Brownley and Ventura County Supervisor John Zaragoza. The event, sponsored by the City of Oxnard, followed the theme that every day is Earth Day and featured EcoHero, an environmental song and comedy show to demonstrate the need for kids to act responsibly and take

Oxnard— The city of Oxnard took its first step towards eradicating homelessness in the city, as Photo by Chris Frost Manager City Manager Alex Nguyen. City Alex Nguyen introduced his housing first model to address the homeless crisis in the city. The report required no formal action, but he wanted feedback from the council. The issue will not be a quick fix, and Nguyen said it requires 10 years of effort to make a difference. n Introduces, see page 3
